What is the tipping practice in Thailand ?
This is Thailand. Tipping is neither obligatory nor expected. Having said that, most modern restaurants with automated POS have the service charge included, so check the bill before wasting your money. If a member of the wait staff has gone 'above and beyond' at table service, then maybe leave some green bills. Same applies in a traditional dinery with the hand-written tab, no tip is expected but small change is OK or maybe a red bill if she's (been) a sweetheart (and your wife's not looking/gone to the restroom). Hotel maids, part of the hotel service. No tip from me on short stays, but I will leave my "shrapnel" loose pocket change when I check out. I did stay long-term in a serviced apartment and had the same two maids who did extra work after I had guests over. They would also take any laundry they found in the washer and put it in the drier or hang it out on the balcony so they got a couple of hundred baht once a week and I would also get some chocolates or sweets for them to take home for their kids. For the home maid service, if through a commercial company, that's what they are paid to do so no need to pay more unless they did a really good job on a really dirty stove top, etc.. If this is a 'private hire' and the same person coming in say once or twice a week, maybe a small bonus around the time of a local holiday would be well received but again, no need to tip on every visit. For the handyman, agree a price up front and how long the job will take. If they do it well, on time and all in good order and you think you may need their services again, a few hundred baht will be acceptable. Other "tips" that are acceptable for the journeyman handyman is some cold beers, but only after they're done.

Pedophile abbot accused of comitting indecent, sadistic acts against young girl
Wishful thinking there. He was probably pretty good at doling out lucky lottery numbers. That goes a looooooong way in Thai culture.

Electric car fire: Week-old million baht vehicle ignites in Udon Thani mall
To summarize, it's negligible. My dad's Zephyr Mk V4 caught fire three times in one summer. Apart from learning how to rebuild a melted wiring loom, it seriously put an end to my childhood whim of growing up to be a fireman.

Not going to trawl through 12 pages of witless speculation and solar power codswallop but if anyone else has, have they confirmed that it was an issue with either the vehicle's charger interface, or the charger, or operator error and naff all to do with the EV's battery itself? Asking for a (nervous BYD owner) friend.

The PT reinvents itself after each and very "loss" and no doubt it will do the same again. Who's this "fugitive" you allude to? Last I read, Thaksin has returned, surrendered, and if not exactly jailed any more, certainly in some form of custody. Nobody needs to keep an unelected quotient of military-aligned senators any more. The law mandates that the incumbent sycophants maximum 5-year term totally expires in April-ish 2024. PT are perfectly capable of rounding up their own largely unelected and unelectable cabal of yes people for the upper house without the need for a military crutch. Same trough, different day. Different snouts too.

Tragic crash report unveils devastating loss of Leicester City’s beloved Thai chairman and crew
AAIB investigations are typically very thorough affairs. And this unfortunate crash was in England. Considering where you claim to have been living for a long time, you must be gutted. You don't know squat about helicopters either. Sorry for your disappointment. Agreed, case closed along with all the tenuous attempts to bash Thailand and all things Thai.

2 visas at the same time
The IO processing you will already "see" your previous O-A use on their screen after he/she initially scans in the passport. If he/she doesn't see any reference to the eVisa he/she may just proceed with the O-A entry for which you have proof of insurance. I am not sure if the issuance of the eVisa will appear on their screen as, like all visas, it is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the database he/she uses is the Immigration Police one. Thus I would suggest keep the eVisa letter out of sight until he/she mentions it. Worst case is they see your O-A AND the existence of an as yet unused eVisa and after flipping back and forth through your passport, whereupon you will be handed over to a supervisor. Your experience at that point onwards will depend on whether he/she is having a bad day at the office. Good luck!

Arrest Warrant Issued for Former Pattaya Mayor Over Condo Approval Case
Good grief... Phnom Penh? The blackguard can't even do a decent runner. Mind you, wasn't his dad suspected of being in Cambodia for years after he was charged with murder only for it to be revealed that he'd been squatting in plain sight at the family pile in Chonburi most of the time? He even had local pooyai's and police chiefs attending his bloody birthday parties while the arrest warrant was ignored. The Khunpluem's are one of the great untouchable Thai families. The small "independent" political parties they created in Chonburi were powerful and have been the lynchpin of several dodgy national administrations for decades including Thaksin's years at the helm. Itthipol's is brother Wittayu got a job in the Prayuth administration before being handed the Pattaya mayorship in 2018. Just remembered that Sontaya's Chonburi political party already threw their hand in with PT before the recent election so, with PT now seated in the big chair, K. Itthiphol doesn't have to worry about anything. This is a window-washing exercise to save face for some "do you know who I am?" muppet in the NACC who is making a last grab for some brownie points.

I have not been to Pattaya in nearly 20 years. Tell me what I should do when I visit next month.
You don't have to do it with the lights on do you?

If you behave like that, the demi-mondaines won't touch you with a bargepole. They're after the two-week millionaire-like 'fresh meat' experience and not the old 'falang loo-mahk'.

2 visas at the same time
I recall reading a thread where someone tried entering with two valid visas and immigration were quite nice and asked the traveller to choose which one he wanted to use, whereupon the other one was stamped cancelled. Not sure what the OP's experience will be if they're not nice and decide for him (and still cancel the other).

Electric car fire: Week-old million baht vehicle ignites in Udon Thani mall
Same as BMW.. Pull twice, safety measure. When white smoke is billowing from under the bonnet of your new EV, that's NOT the time to be looking for the Owner's Manual. Sheesh...

Absolutely correct. What is your regular 4-cylinder sedan engine other a metal box that safely contains 4000 small explosions per minute (and over 12000 per minute when overtaking)?

Four months is the norm for improvised heart disease, which coincidentally corresponds with when he will be able to walk out of the hospital as a free man. The Corrections Department now have the prerogative to exercise the Royal Pardon whenever they see fit. He'll be home for Christmas with his grandchildren.

In other news, Reagan said he was going to sign off on the biggest tax cuts in US history, and he did. The following year, he started to raise them and introduce some more. George H.W. Bush said, "Read my lips. No new taxes." Then he approved new taxes. Every sitting POTUS since Eisenhower has stated in their first speech after being elected that they will end the US's dependence on imported oil. None of them have. Boris Johnson said he had an oven-ready Brexit deal ready to be done. But he hadn't. What's your issue with election pledges again?

Where I live Ive noticed more locals are not obsessed with wearing the facial mask anymore. But some still are.
You managed to see EVERY person in Switzerland while you were there on vacation? That's awesome! Your Aussie mate can see clear across the Nullarbor and way up the Cape York? That's amazing! Is he clever like you as well?
