Wow! Sounds like the UK is a tough place to teach in terms of required qualifications and pay. All those requirements for 18K pounds sterling?! That's less than $36,000 US. As for the kids in English schools, PLENTY of people I know from the UK have told me horror stories about them. Like the US, the kids have all the power and can walk all over you like a doormat.
Its a little higher than that. Basic salary as of 2007 is 21,102 UK pounds ( In London ) at M1 pay grade. Rising to 37,164 at pay grade U3. ( In London )
Still crap though .
And the post about feral Phil and his gang is quite accurate.

Which video?
It was on the BBC/UK/Scotland news website about 2 or 3 weeks ago. The police released the video in an effort to get the public to pressure the local licensing authorities to stop handing out new liquor licenses. Pretty graphic stuff.
If it was on the BBC website......the last thing it would be is " graphic "

Could someone please summarize all the latest "hoops" I would have to jump through just to get started teaching in Thailand? And are these new hoops a way of trying to discourage farang teachers these days? If so, maybe I'll teach in Korea instead. Thanks.
Art
PS: I may try to teach English or science in secondary schools, still haven't made up my mind.
Hhahahahahhaha. Too many hoops in Thailand so wants to go to Korea. Now THATS funny.

Good News!
I went to Vietiane, Laos PDR to applied for my Non-Immigrant B (work) and it was successful. Moreover, I don't need to pay a single cent for the Single Entry Non-B at all...amazing.
Regards,
Steve

Can someone please update about the 30 day ext. of stay
for a double TV at Jomtien Immi?
What documents are now requested in addition to the
passport,pics,app.?
thanks,
mel2surf
Outbound flight ticket before 30 day extension approved.
not if its an extension of the first two months. no ticket was required 10 days ago.
bus ticket is also fine, nong khai (laos).
Yes...I stand corrected. Applies to 2nd TV

What do you do for 4 HOURS in a go-go? I would be bored after 4 minutes.
As Steve said if you were there for that long then alcohol must have been a contributing factor. Personally I would be rat-arsed if I sat in the same bar for 4 hours.
I,d be wasted after 2
-
Highly respected journo...........knocking around in Go-Go,s.
Each to their own I suppose.
4 hours and thousands of baht spent probably meant your senses were alcohol affected. Perhaps your manner was perceived as being aggressive when you confronted the Mamasan?
Any sign of aggression to said Mamasan is only going to have one conclusion.
I guess you got it.
I fail to understand why you still want to frequent thses places if its such an "illusion " and " squalid "

I'm always a little bit surprised by the bar owners. Too many bars and not enough customers. When business is slow and customers are scarce, what do the bars do? They raise prices to make up for the lack of customers. That was always Thai style business and the farangs are following suit.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see cover charges at the Go Go bars in the near future.
You should get out more. Most bars advertise cheap drinks to get customers in. Most of the prominent gogo bars in Walking Street sell draft beer at 55 baht all night.
I didn,t know that.
You obviously get out a lot to the bars.

Well the food is superb so I would suggest learning a little Thai tropo, I see farrangs in there every time I eat or pass so I am sure they are not anti farrang.
I'm not that eager to eat there really...not eager enough to go to a school to learn Thai so that I can order food there. My tilac is Filipino, so not much use there.
I've always been amazed that a restaurant in such a great location would not have the business acumen to put some photos out, or have some English menus available outside. Tonight MK's, Fuji and Hachiban were full with queues outside waiting, and this little Thai place was about 25% full.
With some decent signage outside they could be full every night.
This is why I came to the conclusion long ago that they really don't like Farangs. I do see farangs in there, but they're usually with Thai company. The Pink Lady next door has a full English menu with photos...I do eat there.
I like some of your posts.............I really do. Jing Jing. Sometimes though, your posts come across as a bit errrrrrrrrrrrr xenophobic.
You live here, but can,t be arsed to learn the language. You want everything in English. If...for some strange reason, Thai,s in Thailand only do a Thai menu....you slag of their business acumen.
Let all Pattaya fall in line and have ENGLISH everywhere huh? For Tropo. Who can,t be arsed to learn. Happy to live here though, as long as Thailand complies with his way of thinking.
Jeeeeeeeeeeeez.

Montessori refers to a method of teaching, not to a certification of the school. The term International school attracts the expats.
Its true that Montessori refers to the method of learning and teaching. The poster is correct though that this particular school is in no way official and " accredited " by any of the several Montessori organisations such as AMS. AMI, and the MACTE Commission.
You should be nervous about putting your child into ANY school in Thailand then thaiclan as the level of checking on teachers is very poor.

Jomtien Immigration Info Desk Douchebag-<deleted>!
I've been to Jomtien Immigration about 3 times and everytime have been given bad info from the 40-ish year rude bureaucrat behind the info desk. Having observed this guy, he spends about 3 min. an hour actually helping someone wade through red tape and about 57 min. an hour chatting it up with the people whom are actually trying to process our passports(slowing them down in the process). Today I needed help in finding a translation service in Pattaya or Jomtien, he of course, knew of none! I've have friend whom have had similar complaint, including this guy reprimanding their Thai girlfriends.
Can,t say I,ve ever had a problem there. Always been polite to me and likewise.
At least he is not getting any kickbacks from a " translation service recommend "
Try the Tourism Authority. Or better still.........ask on here for any translation services.
I have SEEN a Thai girl being reprimanded by one of the officers there. Probably due to the fact she was wearing a micro-mini and looked a bit errrrrrrrrrr " trashy "
Maybe that is what happened with your friends.

Hi steve, coming down pattaya klang turn left onto road 2 ,there is a place about 150 yards down on the right you will see a load of seats outside, he quoted me 400 baht to make and fit, in the end i bought a deicated one off ebay, but seems fair and his work looks ok ,lacks a bit in personality but we cant have it all !Hi.I want to re-cover the seat on one of my bikes. Nothing fancy....................black with some red piping. Seat is about same size as a Nouvo. I.e.........a twin seat.

If Penang insist on an outbound ticket to an " international location " before issuance of a TV........would that flight date be entered into the system they have?
What would happen if that flight is not taken and therefore there are no corresponding exit/entry stamps in the passport.
Refusal next time? I ask because I know some posters will consider buying the ticket and then cancelling for a refund once the TV is issued.
Any thoughts?

I will go further: scan that document and put it here or this thread will be closed before the end of the day. The last thing we need is unfounded rumour mongering; there are enough founded rumours.
Unfounded. We have just been quoted 4000 baht.

That's absolutely true: I get a $20,000 check every year from the IRS for living in Thailand and not paying taxes here. (Thank you America for the Overseas Tax Credit.) I'm not saying it's right, legal, or acceptable to Thailand... but Thailand let me do it up until now. Theoretically, I still could do it if I was willing to do visa runs to Prague, or go back to America and get 1-year visas like a sensible fellow, but my goal isn't to stay in Thailand anyway. These new visa rules are just what it takes to get me up and out, and I'm sure that is just what they wanted. Like I said though... no problem with me.
If your already paying taxes then ok i take back my words but there are a lot of ppl who think it is their right not to pay any taxes. But like i said earlier they must make working here legit easier.
Well, I don't pay taxes in effect because everything I pay to the IRS over the course of the year gets refunded. That's another reason I never applied for a work permit and kept working on a tourist visa: Why get involved with the Thai tax system if I didn't have to? I didn't want to, my company asked me not to, and it would cost me money that I didn't otherwise have to pay.
Well like I said: I was spending 100% of the millions of baht I earned every year (including all the tax money I got back from the IRS) in Thailand. Now I'm not. If that is what makes the Thai government happy, more power to them.
If moving is no problem for you, then what were the " millions of baht " being spent on? Just curious.
-
Be careful and phone them first before you commit to anything.
This is my (very) local consulate in the UK. And they have been handing out visas like confetti (for a price) in the UK.
The, admittedly unconfirmed, rumour is that things will soon change.
Sure. The price that is quoted on the website. No tea money at Hull.
OK. I,ve just checked the Emirates website and as usual..............the quoted cheap flights are errrrrrrrrrrrrrr not available.
-
Get the Pattaya Mail(or go to their website) and you'll see Etihad for Bt21,000 return . Go to see NPK on Pattayaland ? opposite the Sugar Shack and no the same side as Lewinskys. They can get it cheaper than the airmine's own website. Google for their website.
Wow! That is CHEAP ! If thats the cost I,m gonna grab one and go see my mates back home. What dates are quoted?
-
Look through the usual suspects, ebookers..... expedia..... . the websites of the airlines themselves.
It maybe easier to look for flights to Manchester. You can then get a train to Hull which would be about 3-4 hours ( depending on connections )
When are you flying? You can go direct to Emirates or KLM websites and for next week ( Wednesday ) they are quoting 40,000 baht and 43,000 baht respectively for return the following week. It gets cheaper if you book furthur ahead.

silly question, but why not go to aiport the day before your plane (no overstay) and wait there your plane. Eventually explaining the situation to the imigration Police?
Will cost nothing
you are wrong buddy You still pay overstay! even if your plain is leaving at 01:00 in the morning and you go thru the immigration before midnight! the immigation calculates the overstay from the time when the plain is leavig, so it doesent matter when you go thru the immigration you still pay!
The poster was not stating that. He was advising the OP to go to the airport a day early in case he got stopped ON ROUTE.
If he arrives at the airport a day or two days early and his stamp is valid, he will have NO problems ON ROUTE. ( the next day )
If by waiting at the airport for 1 or 2 days he is then on overstay, its no problem. He pays the fine and he is on his way home. No drama.
Another poster on here was deriding the fact that if he got stopped on route ( on overstay ) he would ( possibly ) be arrested and locked up.
This is TRUE. There are numerous accounts of this happening. Don,t take this lightly.
