  1. Hi All

First of, I appologise if this info has been posted already, however I did do a search and a quick browse through the latest boards, and couldn't find any information. I also find BKK's website very unhelpful.

My questions is, What is the minimum time you should allow inbetween international flights, if you are changing airlines?

I am looking at a flight arriving at 6am on Thai Airways, and then departing again at 9am on Qatar. Is this enough time to land, get luggage and re-checkin with a different airline. Will I have to go thought customs twice?

Apparently Qatar is open from 3 hours before the flight...

    Thanks :o

3 hours should be ok if no delays.

    cheers

  2. " At Doha no walkways so all transport by bus. When business be careful not to exit the bus at the first stop, because that's the old terminal for economy passengers only, stay on the bus till the dedicated business/first class terminal." They do tell you this when you board the shuttle bus from the plane to the terminal.

Regarding the duty free at Doha, how do the prices compare with Qatar onboard and Thailand duty frees. Price difference is marginal, as mentioned cigs are very cheap in the terminal duty free.

I usually buy B+ Hedges ( 13 packs ) for my mates at Thailand D.F. as compared to my previous mid destination Skipol, they were considerably cheaper there.

They also gave me a gift for buying more. Normally only when there is a special offer cuddly toy?

I also buy perfume / eud de tiolette, but found those expensive at Thai D.F. and cheaper in reverse at Skipol before going onward. Same on plane or duty free though not the cheapest

Well maybe they did when you boarded the buss. In my case they didn't but I knew from an earlier review on skytracks, hence my warning.

    cheers

  4. In fact Foodland does have dried peas. They are next to the bananas and the coffee grinder in the corner of the store. I'm sure Friendship on South Pattaya Road has them as well.

Concur, I always buy at foodland at the location mentioned.

Not for Mushy Peas however but for our belgian " snert" = peasoup with smoked sausage.

  5. The price is set at 20B per bottle - sooooooo as Newton once said- as the price of petrol goes up - the amount you get goes down. :o

Nooooooooooo dear Soundman, that would be to logical.

It HAS to be a scam!!!!

  6. I am opposed to violence, and would rather less guns in the world for sure, but if someone enters MY house and I feel my wife or daughter are in danger of death or sexual assault, I have no problems dropping a few bullets in the criminal.

If one enters your house, can you be exonerated if you shoot him for self defense?

does he have to have a gun too? or a knife?

in the west you'd be ok to protect your family. how about here? any factual information on this?

No you're not. At least not in Belgium my home country.

  7. Just flown Qatar on the 7th to Frankfurt in business class.

The 30 Kilos is still in place. My handluggage plus laptop case were not weighed and check-in went very smoothly.

Lounge was Thai Air lounge, nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

At Doha no walkways so all transport by bus. When business be careful not to exit the bus at the first stop, because that's the old terminal for economy passengers only, stay on the bus till the dedicated business/first class terminal.

Lounge is very big, but fairly cold atmosphere.

Nothing was checked except documentation, and don't worry about medication if in your checked luggage, when in your carry-on make sure you have prescriptions from your doctor.

Don't know about lounge in Frankfurt yet but that's not important for you anyway.

On this first experience with Qatar I would say that seating comfort with Etihad is much better with more privacy (can be very important depending on who is sitting next to you). Food on Qatar was better, but overall now with the new lounge in Abu Dhabi, I prefer Etihad if the price is similar or slightly more expensive.

    Hope to have helped.

    cheers

  8. just go to the 4th floor, u can get a meter taxi and dont have to PAY THE 50 BAHT on second floor.

Here we go again, If you cant afford 50 Baht for an OFFICIAL taxi what are you doing in Thailand for crying out loud.

    onzestan

    What is official taxi?

I always go to level 4 and take taxi from there. Ask them for meter, or in my case, just speak Thai, no problems. Though a friend of mine (being retarded :o ) always prefer to stand in queue and spend extra money for taxi.

The official taxi is where you get a receipt with info of the driver, and where you should take the taxi according to the rules in place.

If one doesn't want to follow the rules that's up to him/her, but then shouldn't complain if the Thai's don't follow the rules either.

That's just my take on this situation but hey if you want to take the risk it's your skin not mine.

And please don't give the excuse it's quicker on the 4 th floor, getting to the 4th floor takes also time and lets face it, it's not about the time its all about the 50 Baht isn't it?

    cheers

  9. I promised an update as soon as I had the chance to use TLM, so here it is.

    June 6th - departing.

10 minutes before arriving airport phoned the telephone-number given to announce my imminent arrival at check-in.

Was met there and after receiving my boarding papers I was guided to the Diplomat counter where formalities took less than 2 minutes.

Then taken to the lounge where I was enjoying a cold beer 15 minutes after arriving at the airport.

The young man even carried my hand luggage, and was very friendly and polite.

So in my view well worth the price I paid. Am booked for my arrival on June 19th and if that works out the same, I'm in for the silver card.

cheers from a very cold belgium.

  10. I am sick and tired of a few posters here who continue to critisize Carll and the rest of us. have you guys seen the amount of support he gets, sure, we must be all wrong and the handfull of you are right. :o

Compare it to sports, if you want to be the best and win you have to make an effort. So all athletes are compulsive then and should get a life .this is not about wasting time or getting a "life", this is life and if that sound stupid to you who cares. Dont tell us what we should do with our lives, we didn't come to thailand for that. I like to "waste" my time . Better than sitting in an office from 9 to five. You must have such an important life that you can't waste any time that you have . good one for You.

I admire carll for standing up to a bully like the GOM and if I were in bangkok and my "schedule" :D allowed me to do the same I would do so.

Now all you nay sayers, go find another topic and stop bothering us.

You have to be joking right?

If the OP had stood up to the bully by confronting this guy pointing out that his behaviour was unacceptable, I would probably agree with your notion.

However what has happened here seems pretty cowardly and infantile to me.

But hey if I you guys want to have a bit of fun with this so called bully that's OK by me, but please don't call what is happening here courageous, it's infantile behaviour and nothing more.

    My 2 cents

  11. i invited him once to my house to share a good bottle of wine with me but he declined. at that time i thought he was quite witty...

Well I may not be the most witty expat in town (Hello Weho!), but I have done wonders for the phrase: "culinary racism"

Google it with quotes and this thread shows up numero uno.

And that's all that really matters to you isn't it?

Being noticed. You must be a very lonely person.

  12. And what if the other person is not interested in learning english but just to communicate.

A language tyrant is a tyrant, and where is it written that the native english speaking people have the by god given right that everybody should speak english with them. In Thailand, Thai is the national language.

And then again how many native english speakers, speak their language correctly?

    onzestan

Most people want to learn a language to the best of their ability or they wouldn't bother to learn it at all. The best way to do that is to listen to an educated native speakers speaking the language properly.

That goes for Thai as well as English. :o

Well then my experience is different from yours, btw I'm not native english, I have found that not many Thais, whether working in a bank, restaurant, taxi, construction etc. etc. really care about learning english correctly, they just want to go on with their lives. and others don't feel the need because their partners are German, French, Italian, Dutch etc.

Once again good communication is far more important than correct language.

but I think it's ridiculous that pidgeon English a huge complaint....

My boyfriend doesn't speak excellent English...and sometimes its easier if I say things to him in a less complicated way.

In my view speaking to your boyfriend in broken/baby English only reinforces poor language performance. Once this poor means of communication is established it is hard to break.

Interestingly the development of pidgin English, and other pidgins, came about mostly through colonialism. The new masters refused to speak the local dialect and the natives were forced to do the best they could. With poor education it was usually far from perfect.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, insisting on correct language is arrogant and demeaning.

The goal should be communication and understanding each other.

    onzestan

It is a lot easier to understand someone who speaks a language well, and learners will never learn to speak well, unless they have heard the language spoken correctly on a regular basis. :o

  16. If you buy a 1 year ticket and you can't get open return, you can always change the date of return.

For some tickets (promotional) a fee is due for change dates. Other tickets no extra.

The fee for change dates is usually far less than 2 times one way ticket.

Ask a travel agent, or check on the websites the conditions of certain tickets.

You can do a ghost booking and then click on fare rules.

  17. It's so dam_n frustrating for people who come from countries where traffic rules are followed by nearly everyone as a normal way of life.

Yes but let's not forget that's only because there are some very hefty fines in place, plus losing drivers licence etc.

I remember the times before speed limit's were introduced in Europe, and even after introduction very few people took notice, until said fines came in place, and the introduction of speed cameras.

People all over the world will disobey the law if they think they can get away with it.

Other than that I do agree that the Thai's (population and government) are taking it to the extreme but that's probably where the Teamoney comes in. :o

  18. We have a long layover at the airport in the middle of a Thailand-VietNam-Philippines-Thailand trip. Although the layover is long, we don't really want to taxi into the city and taxi back. Does anyone have any review at all on the Day Rooms? We would like to just rest a bit, we get to our next destination at 3:30AM.

    Hi JersyGirl,

I think not many TV members have used the Louis Tavern Day rooms, since they are I believe very expensive.

You could check out the following tread for alternative lodgings in the airports vicinity http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=158365

  19. You are talking of real laws I presume. Where do you live? Surely not in LOS?

Yes I do and for nearly 20 years without problems with the law.

I know quite a few people who's lives have been destroyed by legal alcohol, far more than I know that messed up their lives through other types of drugs.

It's about adults taking responsibility for their own choices and actions.

If alcohol can be legal, there is no logical reason to ban soft drugs. Alcohol is a drug, I wouldn't exactly classify it as soft, and is much a stepping stone to h_ell.

Let's agree to disagree, I don't want to enter into a pissing contest over something I despise.

    onzestan

  20. Then I suggest you do yourself a favour and give them a go.

Why do people who have absolutely NO knowledge of drugs have such firm views on them? It really is startling bizarre how easily brainwashed people can become on the issue of smoking a harmless plant that grows freely throughout the world; and one that has numerous natural benefits too.

You jump to conclusions my friend. Because I don't do drugs doesn't mean I don't know anything about them.

It is a well known fact, constantly ignored by the drug advocates, that soft drugs are only a stepping stone to hard drugs.

I have seen a close friend's live destroyed by drugs so don't you dare tell me its harmless.

    onzestan

  21. Perhaps I am weaker than most of the other posters here so I hope I will remain on the good side of the law.

That's all there is to it isn't it?

    onzestan

    That's extremely naive, I'd say.

Maybe but if you don't break the law, then you should not have to fear the law, and BTW I've never ever done drugs and never will.

    cheers
