  1. Severe rain and quite high winds in Chalong also (at least the northern part) for the last several hours. Forecast is for same same right through until next week. September is traditionally the month with the highest rainfall, and maybe we're paying the price for a relatively dry 'rainy' season so far.

First off, what the hell are you talking about 'relatively dry rainy season'?! It's been raining practically every bloody day this entire year! Started when a friend went home beginning February and hasn't dam_n well stopped, apart from a couple of blisteringly hot days. I know, I walk most everywhere.

Secondly, 'September traditionally wettest month of the year'?! You been reading the TAT propaganda website then? It pisses down throughout October and November, November, 'the start of the High Season, according to lying TAT - they know it's way past school holiday's and well enough time before Christmas - is by far, the wettest dreariest month of the entire year. Just ask another friend of mine who always insisted on visiting in November 'because he liked to go skiing in the New Year'. He doesn't come here at all now and I feel sorry for the poor sods who pay a large chunk of change after trusting TAT and 'guidebooks'.

What a 180 turnaround from last year.

Don't know where you are mate but in Rawai it has been very dry this year, hardly any rain until now.

  2. It is great to read so many great comments and memories of Ian. We held a remembrance service in his home town of Perth yesterday and it was very well attended. Ian touched a lot of lives over the years. I will post the order of service later which shows a couple of pictures of Ian in his younger days. He absolutely loved Thailand and I know he made many great friends their over the years, initially staying in Kata and then Rawai. Mr Dons in the early days was a favourite of his and I knew of a canadian chap who was a very good friend. As most of you will know he was a quiet man but one of subtle humour and great compassion who loved a party. He showed great courage battling several illness's during his life especially waldofstroms which he ultimately succumbed to. In Scotland however, we are all slightly surprised about the mentions of his wife as it was widely thought that they had been estranged for several years. RIP Provost Garvie.

The wife mentions are about Brian's wife who cared for Ianin his final months along with Brian.

Ian was estranged from his Thai wife.

I hope that clears any confusion up.

  3. Ahhhhh.....it just dawned on me who Dr. Ian was. Very quiet sort, used to see him at breakfast at AJ's Rawai Beach (when it was AJ's).

Didn't know he was a doctor. Does anyone know, was he a medical doctor or a phd type doctor?

    RIP Dr. Ian

He was not really a Doctor.

There lies a tale of a true character, if you want the story then come the funeral. Ian was one of the good guys, kept himself to himself but would have a chat with anyone.

He is now interred at Rawai temple with full Thai honours, tonight there was a service, the temple is open for all to pay respects, food on tap and fully decked out with flowers, pictures and even Ian's favorite armchair.

Big respect to Brian and his wife who have looked after him for months and still do and Chris who has helped to organize the funeral.

Try to be free free for an hour or two for one of the good guys on Monday.

  4. Brian is sorting through the nightmare of red tape now.

I will keep you guys informed as to when the funeral will be.

At the moment we think it will be Rawai Crematorium and then a wake at Tamarind bar.

Food etc will be laid on and I suppose we will have to drink bloody mary's or a wee dram or two in his honour.

  5. I always thought proper hot dogs were German?

The good ol US of A has no cuisine of it's own, just plastic crap ripoffs of real food :whistling:

  6. Anything crawling along blaring crap puts me off anything.

Seeing a load of sad farangs thinking they are are tough nuts puts me off even more.

Any sport that glorifies hurting each other in the name of sport is brainless.

I had a fight and broke someones arm and maybe get brain damage?

Neanderthals. There are better ways to get fit.

  7. Not only that, StuandChris, you also get to go to temple for your birthday! Yipeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gets better and better then! :jap:

  8. The 15th is my birthday!!!!!

It was reported in the newest weekly periodical.

If this breaks any forum rules, sorry, please feel free to pull it Mods.

  9. I have just been reading in another publication that the authorities are asking entertainment venues (bars) to close from Fri 15th through Mon 19th for the religious holiday.

I can't remember this happening before (5 years now)

Bars closing doesn't bother me usually but there are two points.

    1. So soon after the election shutdown?

    2. It's my birthday! :)

Before you start I know Thai custom is more important than my birthday, I just don't recall a four day closure before.
