BKK Bank due by April 30th?
Wrwest replied to Djinn91's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Hmm, we all are aware that in Thailand reality varies. Only so you are aware, I have held a postpaid AIS account for years on both a Retirement and Marriage Visa. So, your first statement does not hold up. -
Had to listen to hear if any were from Kentucky ... whew, no! So no, none of these were my students. Just an observation after 41 years as an educator ... I found no sure fire, simple answers. It is as complicated as the number of people dealt with, their DNA, and the environment in which they were raised. As the average US reading level has been pegged at the 7th-8th grade level, I am chagrined but not surprised at the post. All I can say is ... I tried my best to help my students understand what is happening around us by noting what came before bringing us to where we are now. I likened the study of history to reflecting on what was inherited from our family lineage (the eye color, hair color, greater chance for some inherited susceptibility to ill ness (cholesterol issues in my case) and the environment in which we were raised. I suggested to my students that, as we were born in the USA, most would be speaking the predominant English, most would be taught Christianity and that ... had we been born in Japan = Japanese, Shinto-Buddhism and possibly Christianity, as well ... Arabia =Arabic, Islam (the nature/nurture proposition). So, much more but I have bored you enough so I'll stop. Loved teaching but, as I also told my students if you cared and were dedicated ... it would break their hearts.

Trump’s Tariffs: A Chaotic Dream within a Lost Era
Wrwest replied to RSD1's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Relatively poor indeed, with an earned working middle class sustainable monthly income of $2400 ($1604 of that from SS). Left of center certainly in today's US divide, shoot, MAGA would probably characterize me as far left as a Bernie supporter. -
I have no issue with this. As a user of the reactions, I find it interesting that these symbols are interpreted in different ways depending on the mind of those interpreting ... in fact, I use them to reflect different thoughts. That "sad" reaction? Hmm, maybe I thought the post was denoting something ridiculous and thus "sad". OR, I could agree with the post that the issue is indeed sad. Or, I could disagree with the validity of a respectful, if in my thinking flawed point being made. I am not sure how knowing I responded with a "sad" reaction would help ... had I wished to respond at length, I would have done that in the first place. Ha, then again, perhaps not responding at length at the time was just a matter of timing or the media device I was using at the time (iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air).

Naa, being ancient it has been over half a lifetime ago (1979-1980) that I reflected on "self discovery".. Not really a "mid life crisis" as I was already quite educated and centered by that time. Still, it was a time of being with myself and testing myself as traveling alone. I took an unpaid sabbatical academic year off from teaching 8 years in the public schools in Kentucky. Sold my house, stored what I wished to keep with my parents in NJ. Borrowed a friend's VW Camper. After participating in a "Friendship Force" exchange program with Cremona, Italy for 2 weeks in summer 1979, it was off to Mexico. I had not been there before, could not speak Spanish but ... I ended up driving 23 of the Mexican States while visiting Aztec and Mayan historical sites while spending most time in Cuernavaca, Morelos studying Spanish. Quite an adventure and growth experience resulting in even greater knowing who, what I am and what I am capable, as well as, what I am not capable. Before returning to teach in August 1980, there was a 6 week trip back to Europe mostly driving through Spain, France with side trip to Morocco and a final week in London before returning stateside. A most pleasing year of discovery indeed.

Trump’s Tariffs: A Chaotic Dream within a Lost Era

A personal thanks to trump. This month's living cost standard transfer down 3500 baht+. Can't afford an earned working middle class retirement in the USA and now he threatens my wellbeing in a lower cost country. -

Not difficult to be smarter than trump, judging on his overseeing of Project 2025 goals. -
It is not a popularity contest. He might well end up being deported (as well as others deported without due process). The point here is the Constitution required due process before depriving anyone on US territory of their freedom. Another incompetent step by the trump administratio, unless ... they are purposely betting that the SCOTUS would rule that the President need not abide by the Constitution.

Actually, the reason for federal government involvement can be traced to American students left to each state were not getting a chance at an equal education (that is a national interest, not limited to any one state). Thus we witnessed the result of segregation and financially continue to witness historically documented education afforded poorer tax support in the various local school districts. A major role of the federal Dept. of Education is to help with finial support of the poorer school districts and overseeing that federal non-discrimination law is carried out. So, yes, there is a need for a national role while leaving most control local.

o help those who do not comprehend. The issue is not the outcome. The issue is being, "deprived of liberty without due process of the law". "No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

I'm thinking there is no danger of any knowledgable person being called for service by the current occupier of the White House. Why? Judging by who has thus far been called to serve. -
Ignorance is no one's friend. As you may be a foreign bot or just an American ignorant about American public education ... the USA has 50 state education systems as public education is controlled by the states under the Constitution. Then, in each of those states, there are local school boards, elected by the residents in the local school district to oversee the funding and curriculum and graduation requirements in their schools. Hope that helps your comprehension concerning US public schools.

US Expat in Thailand Faces 10 Years for Threatening US Senator
Wrwest replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Went to hit the "laugh" meme but ... well, I am American and I have been critical of Trump and his Project 2025. I even have gone as far as the Trump Executive Order against two other Americans having declared that the 2020 election was secure and fair. Cautious times on the basis on documented actions being taken by trump ...
