Thai Air Force Poised to Select Swedish Gripen Jet
Khyron replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The Gripen is a good choice, the F-16 is decent as well, but not as robust. I am a bit biased against the F-16 to tell the truth, ever since Northrop lost the contract to sell the F-20 Tigershark vs the F-16. My family worked for Northrop then, and it was a letdown. They have since moved on to work on the B-2 afterwards. -
Thailand’s Casino Complex: 90% of Patrons Expected to be Locals
Khyron replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I really hope they go back to the original plan of no Thais. Asians have some sort of genetic predisposition for gambling, not racist but true. Go to any casino in the US or Canada, the vast majority are Asians. I would agree, once the locals get a whiff of the gambling bug, the household debt will skyrocket, loan sharks will make a bundle unfortunately. -

Paetongtarn’s pledge: No more Shinawatra slip-ups
Khyron replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
She went to a Falang school for most of her childhood, so maybe, just maybe, something has been learned about how the rest of the world operates, and Thailand isn't the center of the world. No, the "rest of the world" is far from perfect, but the laughable attempt to show everyone that the last 18 years or so are an example of a working democracy in Thailand is ridiculous. I agree that Sretta was doing his best to keep a dialog with other countries concerning investment in the Kingdom, you can't keep a country running by cozying up to a select few neighbors, looking at you Laos and Cambodia. -
30-baht scheme in hot water: is Thailand’s gold card running out of cash?
Khyron replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It has been a great scheme so far, my SIL has had radiation treatment for the last few years for a brain tumor, almost gone. They have had to pay maybe 9000 Baht in those two years, otherwise they would never been able to afford it. The hospitals do ask for donations though, rightfully so. 8 years ago maybe, my wife got a migraine one night. The ambulance from the amphur was called, decided the best course of action was to take her to Chumpae, about 45 minutes away. Got to the gov't hospital in Chumpae, they gave her a shot of Toradol, cleared it up in 30 minutes. When she was getting back into the ambulance for a ride home (included), she asked how they could afford it, this whole thing cost her 30 baht, they said donations helped. Luckily, she had her purse and gave them B10k, they were properly shocked as most donations were in the 100's. The people in the Gov't hospitals do a great job from what we see, no problem whatsoever for them to ask for some gratuity. -
Paetongtarn Shinawatra Elected as Thailand's 31st Prime Minister
Khyron replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The powers that be probably gave Sretta a certain amount of time to get foreign investment up in the country, that's why he was going around the world gladhanding any world leader who would give him the time of day. Unfortunately for him, it came to naught, and his time was up. We will see what the scion will do for the country, she didn't get her aunts looks though, more like her dad. Business leaders from the outside are a bit leery of investing alot, as the rules and government can change in an instant. I am happy Anutin didn't get the nod, that would have not boded well for us.- 190 replies

As much as I despise the Russian government for their illegal occupation of Ukraine and Georgia,(not the Russian people) there is alot of truth to these statements. Ever since the Crimean war, WW1 and WW2, Russia has been at odds with western Europe over expansion. Neither side was 100% right or wrong. Crimea was England and France stopping Russia from taking over the Ottoman empire, both World wars were from treaties falling apart or ignored. This would fuel some kind of paranoia of Nato expansion, but unfortunately the powers that be in Russia took it to another level, feeding that fear for an excuse for a land grab. Nato has never "expanded", member states want to join. If I am not mistaken, Russia asked to join Nato and/or the EU in the 90's, but the European leaders and others shut it down as a drag on the economy as Russia was not doing well in that department. That was probably a mistake, as the world may have been a more peaceful place now. This being said, the "Special military action" has saved the country of Taiwan and South Korea from anything for a while. Reason being, this has showed China and DPRK that the current Soviet style military isn't relevant in modern warfare, they will go back to the drawing board for a while and figure something out. This is my opinion only, And I respect everyone's differing views.

My wife received her renewed Thai passport in 3 days via RT post. This was from Khon Kaen It should be ok to enter on Thai passport and leave on same passport, they will give you the old one back. book your flight on UK passport. If Thai IMM asks for a visa to the UK during exit, he can show the UK PP. They have seen this several times.

I have a quick question, It may have been answered already, but i'm not going to slog through 38 pages of replies. If I send 3million baht later this year, but am not in country more than 180 days, I don't owe anything as I do not reach the time in country threshold. Next year, I am not in country more than 180 days, again no tax owed as the time in country threshold has not been met. The year after, do I owe anything from the prior two years if I stay more than 180 days? The only money sent was the original 3million from 2024, but not more than 180 days in 2024, 2025, but 2026 I am in over 180 days. Will I ever owe anything? This is all savings that has been taxed in the US. These are hypothetical numbers and dates, nothing has been sent yet. Thanks for the replies.

Thai Airways Among World's Top Ten Airlines in 2024
Khyron replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Travel and Leisure, Skytrax, and other groups that have people "vote" for the best airlines are all "pay for play". The amount of money the airlines pay determines how high they are in the "voting". I've flown Thai in the past couple of years, albeit domestically, and the planes are filthy, and worn looking. Thai air Asia is a much better product. -

100% correct. crazy is as crazy does. The only bright spot is he is dead and that will eliminate the obligatory media circus for a trial. -
Trump rushed off stage after possible assassination attempt
Khyron replied to DPat's topic in World News
My wife and I were properly shocked when we saw the news clip. We are not fans of Trump or Biden (both of us voted for Haley during the primary) Regardless of your political leaning, any person with compassion is feeling sad that there was an attempt, and good that he is (relatively) ok. Very unfortunate for the people who were killed and injured. -
My wife said that teachers in her day (late 1960's) didn't put up with any crap. The kid in question would have had the sh!t beaten out of him with a piece of bamboo (The female teacher would have asked one of the male teachers to do so), then when the parents heard about this from the teacher, more bamboo sticks at home for embarrassing them. Seemed to work a treat, as the older generation respected their elders more than this lot.

Thai Fisheries Law Amendments Spark Global & Local Concerns
Khyron replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Someone high up has a vested interest in not allowing ships to dock, that would reduce the instances of slave labor that is rampant in SEA fishing boats. Sad. -
If things go in the wrong direction causing Foreigners to not build houses and such, what do you think will happen to the home improvement mega stores? Thai Watsadu, Global, Home Pro, etc, I have only seen Farangs buying anything there, or Thai builders doing the purchasing for homes being built. When that stops the stores will definitely suffer.

Touchy Subject... Something we don't want to think about...
Khyron replied to AcuDoc's topic in Marriage and Divorce
I have wondered about this exact scenario; but my wife is a few years older than me. I believe the Will and Usufruct is probably the way to go. The most difficult thing we are facing is who to put in the will to own the land if my wife goes before me. Her brothers and sister we trust 100% (I've known them for more than 30 years, never ask for a dime) but they may go early as well, the nieces and nephews we mostly trust, but you never know. What I would like to know is, if the land goes into their name, the house is in mine with an Usufruct, what is to stop them from getting a loan on the land and not paying it? Is that possible? Sorry If I hijacked the thread, but I think it is a pertinent question for the OP. Thanks. -
Thai EV Market Remains Unfazed by European Sales Downturn
Khyron replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I read that the reason the EV sales are down so much in the EU and US is that the people who are going to buy an EV have already done so, and whatever sales are left are the stragglers to the EV market or the first owners getting new cars. They won't be selling as much as when they first came out unless something totally different happens IE; 1000 mile battery, price drop, etc. Asia still has alot of customers left, but eventually the same thing will happen. I think the ORA is a really good looking vehicle, and the quality isn't bad for the price point. -
Chaos Erupts on Kuwait Airways Flight from Bangkok as Passengers Clash

When did a third airport open up? I've been to Don Mueng and Suvarnabhumi, never Bangkok International. Cool, I hope it gets non stop service from the US through Southwest Airlines on a 737...
