  1. When I got my 1 year licence I followed posts on TV for a year. I noticed that those who went later in the morning, say 10.30 - 11, did not need to do any of the tests in Pattaya. So it proved for me. I had my old licence, passport copy, certificate of residence and filled in the application form. I was in and out with my new 5 year icence in about 10 minutes.

I am guessing here, but I suspect that once they have called the (early arivals) farang group for the video and tests, they do not bother with late comers; it is too much trouble.

Helpful to know how recently you went to renew your licence. When I previously renewed my 5 year licence it also took only a few minutes.

This year's renewal was as related, as has been the case for friends this year; a friend's who also went this year and arrived late was allowed to watch the video in the afternoon, and told to come back the next day for the tests.

If those who advise going late did so recently, then you may be lucky; if not, you will end up wasting two days instead of one.

Not in Thailand at the moment and have not got my licence with me, but it was the end of last year.

  2. Is it me or has nobody here even got on a bike/car after a couple of glasses of the devils drink?

Come on you lot i must be the only person who feels for this candadian , ok he had a few to many but so do 1000's more every day in the land of smiles

we used to flick coins to see who would drive

This only goes tits up when there is a accident like this and then everyone says hang him dry?

I am guessing everyone here has had a few and drove home

Lets hope its not you there trying to hang next time

    Aaaah, ummmmmm,ohhhhhh, errrrrr.

  4. I am looking to bring back a trickle charger from England. The ones on sale here say they are suitable for particular engine sizes. Does this really make a difference. It has confused me, although that is not difficult to do.

My concern is that I need one for a small petrol car and a large deisel pick-up.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  5. First of all the edirorial comment under the article was quite thought provoking.

Secondly, what really concerns me when I see a case like this is that it seems that laws relating to underage sex are not being treated seriously. When that happens genuine victims might not get the protection they need. I am not saying cases like this should be ignored, but that everything needs to be put in perspective and the overall picture should not become blurred.

  6. I will be moving soon. Do I have to change the registered address for my car and driving license with the Land Transport Department?

If so what is the procedure, what paper work do I require and is there any charge?

    Thanks for any advice.

  7. Went to the airport yesterday. A couple of check points. Vehicle were being slowed so that soldiers could see inside, but not stopped. No jams at all. 1 hour 10 minutes by taxi from Pattaya.

Quite frankly I was glad to see something being done. Caused no problems at all.

  8. I know I am risking a holiday for commenting on admin/moderation matters......but what the heck.

I have to say that the Thai Visa coverage of the Red Shirt Rally was fantastic. Daily closed threads, concentrating on news and facts, with links when necessary and kept up to date was most informative.

    Well done you lot.

Please don't give me a ban; I won't do it again.

  9. Surprised this one has not had more responses. Too many shocked into silence/

I have been expecting something like this for a long time.

Is this the thin end of the wedge for company ownership of houses and condos? Probably, but it will still take a while yet. First lawyers will make money to find ways round it. The rules will be tightened again. ..and so on. Eventually no company can register property property if it has a foreign shareholder.

Then perhaps the next step will be to require a work permit for the person signing the annual company returns.

Good luck to you people who have gone down this road - hope it works out alright for you. For those that haven't gone down this road - don't.

  10. A condominium is not so much physically defined but rather it is the term given to describe the legal strata title.

However, in order for that project to be considered eligible to be registered for strata title sub-division it must comply with certain building regulations. In short, a unit must be a part of one building. That does not have to be a high rise.

In fact opposite Oakwood on Narathiwas is a nice condominium comprising what looks to be 4 bed houses surrounding a central garden area, which is in fact built on a concrete floor above parking for the complex. This central courtyard 'garden' connects all the 'houses' together at the 1st floor. Almost brought a place there, v nice.

I'll see if I can dig out the long answer for you later, but don't hold your breath, got a few things on right now. The intrepid amongst you might want to get copies of the building regs for condo's from the BMA translated and posted up here which will explain all.

Is this the ones the developer tried to call 'lateral condominiums'? If it is they were built in the late 90's. If I remember correctly (and I admit I might not) the Government turned somersaults to legalize them, because big money was involved, and then said it would not happen again.

  11. I wonder if the 99 Baht restaurant on Soi LK Metro / Soi Diana is doing Christmas Day lunch?

It is good place. They probably will do something for Christmas, but being American run it will probably be Christmas Eve. I was looking for Christmas Day lunch and, being Christmas, I am prepared to splash out a bit more.

  12. Any suggestions for a good place to get a good Christmas Day lunch in Pattaya or nearby? Traditional would be good, not not essential.

    Thanks.
