The narrative that it is an existential one about freedom and national sovereignty is one constantly pushed by Zelenskey and his backers, because it justifies their actions. It does not fit the historical facts. The propaganda that Putin plans to invade a NATO member, like Poland is ridiculous and there is zero evidence to back this up. The west will also tell you that it is about upholding the International rules based order, which of course conspiculously does not apply to their ally Israel.

Another ridiculous and misleading article that is driven by pure hyperbole. No, thankfully Europe is not preparing for all out war. All those concerned, including Putin, understand that a war between nuclear powers can never be fought, as it would likely turn nuclear and the doctrine of mutually assured destruction still holds true today. While Putin's threats should be taken seriously, analysts concur that he will most likely retaliate through hybrid warfare, while continuing with the nuclear saber-rattling. Its not in his interests anyway; a Trump presidency is looming and he is clearly winning conventionally. All analysts are in agreement that the recent change in policy with regard to long range missiles has come too little and too late. They are a desperate attempt to slow down the Russian advance and salvage something from a misguided proxy war. While serving as an escalation, it will not affect the Russian momentum or have any significant strategic effect. It is now clear to everyone that in the long term Ukraine cannot win or reclaim its lost territory. It doesn't have the weapons or manpower. Even Zelenskey, as reality finally dawns, now says that Crimea can only be regained through diplomacy. It is high time that reality and pragmatism come to the fore, and for the sake of all concerned, not least Ukraine, that negotiations begin on some kind of ceasefire.

It is mostly a symbolic decision, that may add to the costs for Russia, but it will not fundamentally alter the dynamic or course of the conflict. Just like the tanks, aircraft, and Himars havent. It will not change the vast discrepencies in manpower or resources for example. Its now apparent to nearly every serious , objective, observer and analyst that Ukraine can neither win nor reclaim its lost territory. It is simply not possible.Even in Kyiv, while Zelenskey whistles in the wind, reality is staring to bite, with an increasing segment of the population recognising this reality. The sooner serious negotiations start to broker a ceasefire the better for all concerned.

Yet there have been many such deals in the past resulting in the release of Palestinian prisoners. Hamas knows the Israelis do swaps and that is why they take hostages. There is zero evidence that Russia will attack any more of its neighbours. Such a narrative is contiually pushed by Ukraine and those countries like Poland, who have historical grievances with Russia, because it suits their interests. It also defies any logic. As the Russian military is struggling to defeat Ukraine, how could it hope to triumph in a conflict with the whole of Nato. It is pure propaganda. Ukraine was invaded because Putin does not want a bastion of the west on his doorstep, in what it perceives as its sphere of influence.

Even if they permit the use of Storm Shadow missiles, which seems likely, it will not win the war for Ukraine, just like all the other ' game- changing' things that Zelenskey has pleaded for haven't. In any case they are in limited supply and the Americans and Germans have sensibly already ruled out sending theirs. Why take the risk? The unpalatable truth is that though it is clearly the aggrieved party, Ukraine cannot win the war, without Nato boots on the ground. It is slowly losing ground in the east and struggling to find willing volunteers to fight. Three quarters of its power grid has been destroyed and it faces a very difficult winter. The ill-advised Kursk invasion is a sideshow. All Putin has to do is wait. If Trump wins its a bonus. The mistake the west has made is committing themselves to a Ukrainian victory. As Putin knows a nuclear power cannot, in essence be completely defeated, and sadly talk of reparations and international tribunals, while symbolic are just a pipe-dream. Instead of the same old tired manta, its time for the sake of global security that the west and Zelenskey take appraisal of the facts and get real.
