If the rash is where there is contact, it maybe not allergy. I have this problem with gloves around my wrist...

After going on tour for a few weeks, get this problem, I did a bit of research and it's not allergy or anything to do with material, it's skin reaction to contact, even very soft one, over time it becomes sensitive..., now I have to have some wristband or false sleeve at contact point underneath, a bit annoying, but can't be helped...

Balaclava suggested above is an option for helmet issue, but as mentioned the damn thing moves all over, I have problem with pressure on my prescription glasses without it, no way I can use balaclava or too much pressure on my nose...! 🤔

Yes, the rash was where the helmet contacted my face and all over my neck from the chin strap. I've had this problem for maybe 2 years and since I thought it was mold in my condo I really didn't think it was the helmet. This year I started taking trips out of Thailand(UK, Bali, Vietnam, S. Korea) and I didn't have nearly as much problem with the face/neck rash. I just came back from a 6 week trip to Vietnam and within a week the rash came back, even though I washed my liner. Then I washed my liner a 2nd time, I first soaked it in plain water and saw how filthy it still was. Then I got rid of my helmet AND super cleaned my shower walls/floor and now my rash is gone. I have a new helmet on the way.

  2. I was in Heathrow this last February. Uh, are you kidding me?  there were literally thousands of immigrants it is a national catastrophe. Every single day it must be getting worse.

Back here in Thailand I met a bloke that used to drive an ambulance in London. He told me he flew back to London a few years ago, shook his head, and immediately flew back to Thailand the next day.

I'll be honest I did like visiting London, even now it's a great city and most people really nice. Outside of London in many cities must be even nicer. The problem is the corporations are trying to ruin it all, and they might be succeeding.

  3. - If you have the Bangkok Bank Be1st Debit card take your passport to the closest branch and ask them to activate it for online/international transactions.

    - Yes, it's difficult to use home country credit cards without a home country address. They're trying to prevent fraud. Some banks will do it, some will not. You have to call or email them to find out.

    - Can I use a Thai bank issued prepaid credit card anywhere in the world? or is it only good in Thailand?

Yes the Shark Ridill full face helmet is around 5k baht, good helmet, on Shopee.

I also have a Shark open face, around 8k.

Better to try on first unless you know the make fits you

Thanks, I'm going to try on some helmets today. You're right Ridill is available at a reasonable price I might buy two helmets. First, a higher end helmet like the Shark Spartan 10k-15k then a Ridill as a backup for 5k.

I think its a case of 'if you have to ask'... then....

.... I've never heard of Bilmola...  so I'm not sure...

Regarding price - it depends what you go for, there is a huge variation...   they have old stock, last years models etc... some good deals, but you'll have to find a 'fit'...

    https://www.pandarider.com/Panda/product_helmets.html

    https://paddock.co.th/product-category/road/road-helmets/shoei-road-helmet/

I really liked the Schuberth - but the fit wasn't right.

I liked the Caberg - didnt have my size.

So it'll take some digging to find something...

Depending on your riding and how you 'store your helmet' the Oneal moto-x helmets are well priced, but may not fit under a scooter seat etc...

For example:  This one looks solid:  (Modular - flip up)

Thanks for all these links and info. I was up really late last night looking at helmets online. I read a lot of reviews on Billy's helmet review website. I'm going to a couple of motorbike shops today to try on a few helmets, I'm almost always a medium 57-58 I'm looking for a name brand 4 star safety, hypoallergenic, full face, clear shield with sun visor maybe even eyeglass grooves now between the 10,000-15,000 baht. I think Shark Spartan might fit the bill.

It defo seems like the helemet, especially if the rash is in area's where there is contact and another helmet didn't cause breakout...

Its unlikely a 1200 baht helmet is made with decent materials and even washing is not going to do a whole lot I imagine...

Note: The helmets in the shops I recommended are pricey - i.e. often 25,000 baht etc...  But you can look online and see what you like for the price and research it.

Someone Pattaya based will surely come up with a local shop that has a good selection of helmets...

    i.e. a Honda Big-wing dealer etc...

Those shops (that I mentioned) will also deliver - but then you miss out on the 'trying on' for fit etc...

Yeah lesson learned from being cheap. If fits great but caused A LOT of suffering.

Any chance of finding something of quality between 5k-10k baht?

    Is Bilmola a quality brand?

How old is the helmet (even though you clean it often)...

Could it be locked in bacteria (from sweating etc)... how do you clean it, remove the lining and soak with an antibacterial detergent ?

Do you usually show any signs of allergy to other items ??? clothing ?

Many higher end brands claim to use hypoallergenic materials...   Also, where are you ?

If in Bangkok, take yourself to Paddok or Panda Rider - they stock a lot of the brands I've listed below...

Recommended Hypoallergenic Helmet Brands & Models

    1. Shoei

    2. Arai

    3. Schuberth

    4. Shark

    5. Klim

    6. Nexx

    - My current helmet is a 2 year old RKN Crazy Bear bought from Lazada 1,200 baht.

    - Yes, it could be bacteria or mold in the liner. Initially I didn't clean it as often or as thoroughly as I do now.  Tonight I sprayed the liner and chin strap with white vinegar and then washed with liquid detergent, not anti-bacterial though.

    - Not a lot of allergy problems on the rest of my body or from other clothing. I have had problems with allergies my whole life, especially pet dander and mold.

    - This problem is so bad I took a 6 week trip to Da Nang to see if my face rash would go away. I even rented a motorbike there and bought a new helmet for 12 Euros. The face rash completely went away..then I came back last week and it's terrible again.

    - Also, I initially suspected mold in my apartment was causing my face rash.

    - I'm currently in Jomtien, prefer to buy locally but if I have to ride to Bangkok I'll do it lol.

  8. I'm coming back to Thailand tomorrow as I'm just finishing up my 6 week stay in Vietnam. Vietnam has been great but I did have to try 5 different hotels before I found a good one-the pictures on booking are always so misleading. As for Thailand I'm going to see if I can do 4 straight months and stay in a good mood. Going to the gym will help out but yeah I'm thinking 4 months out of any year is enough for me. Being low season helps..I hope.

    I'm sure they are.

But I've always thought, what if something happens after the initial surgery.

Surgery is fine you get discharged and fly home, but a few days later something goes wrong?

Do you fly back to India to consult with the original surgeon, or do you have to find a local physician, then try to get all the medical records from India?

So maybe medical tourism is right for some, but I'm not convinced that it always saves you money

I would think for a surgery like rotator cuff most people would stay in India in a decent hotel near the hospital for about a month. Hopping on a plane after surgery is a no go.

Of course people have different situations in my case I've got 75% coverage with a catastrophic cap. I'm lucky I don't have to worry too much about cost and I definitely prefer surgery out of country.

I Had an accident similar in 2022 with a full width tear of the supraspinatus tendon which is one of the four rotator cuff muscles. I got a quote at Bumrungrad shortly after Thb 425,000, - My insurance did not cover and I was anyway scared about recovery time so I returned home  and both my general practitioner and an orthopedic shoulder specialist did not recommend that I undergo any surgery due to the long recovery time and, not least at my age, the chances of my shoulder recovering completely were slim. They did however recommend physiotherapy. I returned to Thailand and did the training myself, as I do regular strength training anyway. At that time, I had pain even when I was lying in bed, could not lift my arm out to the side and even swimming was impossible - Today, three years later, I can load 8kg on each arm and do lateral raises, swimming is painless, and I sleep without pain.

    Felt

Congrats on your progress! I had a couple of sports injuries in my late 40's I almost agreed to a meniscus repair and a buddy of mine just said "don't let them cut you unless the pain is unbearable". Thankfully my knee healed up nicely on it's own.

After that I kept on playing on hard courts for another 7 years, and suffered through several shoulder, foot, and knee injuries. The last knee injury hit me at age 55, I could barely walk for 2-3 months even and a cortisone shot only helped for about 2 weeks. I was deathly afraid I screwed up my knee so bad it was going to require knee replacement surgery. Once again I listened to my friend and waited it out and six months later I was a lot better. So much so that I went on to play one final hardcourt season.

Thank god my friend told me to hold off on any surgery I probably would be way worse off today if I let them cut me.  For anyone considering surgery I strongly suggest BLIND 2nd and 3rd opinions.

  11. I've had a few iPhone Pro Max's in my hands they're a fantastic phone and probably the flagship Samsung Galaxy is even better. However, I always lose or break my phones I cannot stomach losing over 1,000 quid over a stupid phone.

I dropped my current Samsung A24(great cheap phone by the way) a couple of months ago I've repaired the screen but it cracked too so I'm going to buy the best Android phone(A24 or Honor200?) I can find for under 12,000 baht later this month.

But yeah I agree the expensive phones are definitely A+++ and they're worth it if you are able to keep it 4-5 years.

I'm lucky to keep any phone unscathed for a year.
