Couldn't take bikes into Myanmar when we checked. IIRC, Vietnam was cc restricted then too.
Myanmar wouldn't even let locals drive motorbikes back then. Only police and military. Don't know if it's changed or not. Probably not with the deterioration of the country since.
I think you can get through but notify them in advance and they'll arrange an escort. I believe some people go around through Laos but then you have to go through China.

Found shot dead on the mountain road between Oaxaca and the coast. Still had his wallet and the money in it. The only thing missing was his expensive touring bike.
Damn, that's sad I'll never go to Mexico unless it changes for the better.

Bike doesn't look too damaged, he probably would be alive if he wore a helmet.

The ideal way to come to Thailand is to have your net worth increase every year. Pension, investments, interest, work online, etc. Whatever it takes.
Sliding downhill for the rest of your life is no way to live.

There are many - leave from the slipway near SCB bank.
Just pick up a phone number off the side of one of the boats. The last number I used was 0851579230.
Great, thanks!

Any recommendations for convenient parking at Ban Phe Pier whilst I take the ferry to Koh Samet? Covered parking would be the best.

Bali Hai is so crowded I'm wondering if there's any speedboat for hire that leaves from Jomtien.

Can I fly to Hawaii, get 15,000 USD out of my bank and carry the cash back here to Thailand?

I've got the itch..thousands of km's up north through Myanmar and beyond. At least a 30 day trip, it's gonna take me a year to prepare.
My problem is I don't know what bike to get. One friend even suggest a big SYM 400. Royal Enfield has that new 450 Himalayan out, not sure if that's the right ride. Maybe the 411?

I also recommend getting basic blood work done every year. Of course it's probably cheaper here in Pattyaya than Bangkok but it's nice to know info. I'm also supposed to get a colonoscopy but screw that lol.

I have a lot of the same issues here in Pattaya. I have savage allergies I was miserable for over a year until I changed nasal spray from Flonase to Rhinocort(Budesonide). I also have a very good air purifier, which I need to run 24/7 from Jan-May.
I'm getting older it's not only the pollution but if I eat past 8pm I feel miserable the next morning. Also it kills me if I don't exercise 4 or 5 times a week.

I moved here to Thailand just before the 2022 World Cup. All I had was my weak Chromebook connected to a 50 inch TV. I found out I could set my Surfshark VPN to Australia and watch the World Cup for free.
However, my Surfshark expired a few months ago and I haven't really missed it much. They tried to access my credit card 6 months before exp. but I had already canx that one. If I ever need a VPN again I'll sign up via PayPal.

A Big Mac set in the U.S. costs at least 350(10 USD) after tax.

My home state of Texas, it's $4.39 That's 151 baht.
A Big Mac set in Texas is over $10, which is approx 350 baht.

You are in Thailand, do as the Thais do. The Sinsod is just for show and should be returned after the wedding. If they refuse, it is a bessing in disguies - they didn't stick to the rules, so stop the 2,000 a month to grannie.
You're in Thailand I would listen to Neeranam's suggestion here and pay the Sinsod but whether or not they pay back the Sinsod I'd keep on paying granny, it's only 2,000 a month. You'll never earn their respect you are an ATM to them and you always will be an ATM to them.
In Total you pay a one time payment of 50,000 and 24,000 a year to granny. Pretty cheap if you ask me and when they ask for any more money I would very simply say "I'm sorry I wish I had some money to give you but I don't". That will make them go away quickly.

It's hard to find any parking on 2nd road. I use the connecting Soi's to avoid instances like this.

I don't know all the pizza places but NY on Pattaya 3rd road is ok. One of the pizza places on Soi Buakhao is ok. In Jomtien it's Dom's vs. Frankie's I think Dom's is the better of the two. The Pizza Company is <deleted>e. Domino's is better than The Pizza Company but still <deleted>e. When Pizza Hut runs a special for 2 medium pan pizza's they're pretty good.
So yeah, Dom's is in the lead but not by much.

I’ve heard to avoid Pattaya for finding long term relationships because of the bar girls and general sexpat culture of the city. I have zero interest in anything related to this. Is Jomtien going to also be a bad choice for finding a potential long term relationship/wife as well due to its proximity to Pattaya? Would I be better off going to somewhere like Phuket or Hua Hin? I don’t drink so bars in general aren’t going to be of any appeal. My main interest in the general Pattaya area is the number of restaurants, quality hospitals, cost of living, and not getting obliterated by smoke season.
Congrats, your still young(30's)and you know what you want. I do believe it's harder after the age of 30, than when you're in your 20's. A guy in his 30's is definitely considered an adult, where a guy in his 20's is still considered an extension of his teenage years. Most guys in their 30's obviously not only look older but have had a marriage/kids/divorce..but they are more mature and usually better off financially. I've been here in Thailand 18 months I've seen a few successes but they are rare. Most successes are older guys who have 40'ish wives who are very plain looking. As far as good looking girls go--one guy I know is 56 he's very well off financially, always been very smart, he has a nice much younger gf he looked around here in Pattaya area for 3 years to finally pick the right one. Another guy is 62 he has a much younger g/f, she's a marathon runner all he had to do was buy her a 15-20 million baht condo in Jomtien.
I hang out with a lot of friends here in Pattaya, the guys who don't commit are happy 24/7. 90% of the guys who commit are unhappy at least half the time. The sex addicts are, of course, miserable. The alcoholics are, of course, happy lol.
My advice to a guy in his 30's who knows what he wants? If you can be happy with a plain girl, you'll probably be alright. If you want a pretty girl you should really plan everything out to the nth degree otherwise you'll lose control and be miserable. If you have 1k-7k Euros a month I'd say VERY DIFFICULT you can get and keep a pretty girl. If you don't have 8k Euros a month you're young you can reinvent yourself and get it. I wouldn't try Thailand though, I'd probably go for a nice S. Korean girl who wants out of S. Korea(they work hard and are much better looking) or go for a nice Colombian girl(you can be 100% that they will take care of your kids).
Yes, you can make Thailand work for you but it's simply too hard and you need a lot of money.

Russians are aggressive, violent and totally unpredictable.
and that's just the women
in all seriousness though, you only have to look back at years of russians behaving badly in Thailand to see what I mean
Did you see that naked bloke the other week punching that Thai who was just sat on his scooter with his mrs?
shocking.
Thailand's got a lot of foreigners doing wild antics - what you can't handle it?

The Russians are doing the same here as people from other countries are doing. They're enjoying the low prices and relative peace Thailand provides. I do think they mostly keep to themselves in public but if you went back to their condo they'd be a lot more open.
Yes, a few act out in public but every foreign country has a few that go a little wild. I remember last Dec about a minute after the World Cup final a westerner sped his bike down Soi Buakhao and crashed into a 7/11 killing himself and an innocent bystander. Around the same time a Russian Berserker singlehandedly destroyed a different 7/11 on walking street but nobody died which incident is worse?

I've looked into getting the smart topbox that unlocks with the bike's fob, you have to order the wiring loom as well as the box and honda's own rack, to the tune of around 20-30,000 Baht
not sure if big wing dealers for the proper big bike can order them for the ADV750 and such, but the smaller shophouse selling PCX and ADV350/Forza won't have a clue, but look around webike.com and you can find the whole kit
With the price and uncertainty whether the Thai version ECU has the necessary port to plug into or not, I can put up with the inconvenience of another key
I agree 20k-30k baht is way too excessive for a fob box

10 hours ago, Celsius said:I just have a feeling something is really off, not just with Thailand, but the whole damn world.
My wife who has been employed from a foreign company working from home has barely been able to close any sales. This is unheard off for her and her business.
She was also contacted by her old (Japanese) company to come back and work for them because since she left they had zero sales. They even offered her a promotion. However, I really think she may fail with her great comeback as the factories and distributors seem broke, only set on buying cheap parts from China.... which in all fairness can now compete with most of the products from Japan and Europe.
I just think there will be some major financial events next year that will perhaps change the rules on how expats live in Thailand. I am not simply talking about the new tax law in Thailand. I am willing to go as far to say that pensions will not be paid unless you are a resident of your country or some kind of reporting requirement to your government, similar to 90 days here in Thailand.
Whatever happens, I think I will be better off back home if $hit hits the fan.
This is pretty typical narcissism; things aren't going my way so the whole world is doomed and so I will panic and run back to my home country.
What goes up, must go down. Sales is a tough job.

You're right my one year prep will be to take short then increasingly longer trips around Thailand. Next year will be one or more months out of the country.
