  1. Never drink and drive but had a few beers and was stopped. Breathalyzed, made to sign the slips and then sent to talk to the boss all roadside.

used translate to explain that I would have to go to the station and court and there was a fine. I pleaded to pay fine and I was very sorry. The boss asked for 10k I said if less was possible he said 7. He pointed to the atm and I got the money. They sent me to another boss who took me to some plastic chairs side of road a bit away. He told me with translate that he wanted me to go to court and all that but I pleaded. They had asked me my name and had my licenses. He asked me my name and wrote it down and my phone number. He then said ok and told me to leave the money on the ground.

He left it there and told me to go to my car and that they would give me my license. Another cop gave me the license adn walked me to the car then helped. E on my way in my car.

i made a bad mistake and I paid a fine but what worries me is that they have my name, phone number and asked me my job etc - I am worried this will come back to bite me or they will try to go ahead and prosecute me etc?

is this likely to happen or is this horrible ordeal that I got myself in finished. Never again.

  2. Hi,

I'll be going on my first long distance trip on my new EV - an ATTO 3 Extended. I am going with the family to Rayong, area where the marriot is. It's about 182km from my starting point to my hotel.
There is no charging available in my hotel, I have asked and they have provided these two links - 1 is a website that is all in Thai and the other is a PEA Volta station that is 30 minutes from my hotel.

Can you help me plan my trip please and where you would stop to charge?

I would like to go there in one drive without stopping but I think either during my stay or on the way back I would need to charge up.....Im only staying 2 nights. So there in one and then stop on drive back?

This is what the hotel provided:

Regarding to your inquiry, please find nearby EV car charging station from attached link below.
    https://evcar-charging.com/

    https://www.google.com/maps/place/PEA+VOLTA+Charging+Station/@12.7864909,101.6730213,14z/data=!4m9!1m2!2m1!1sEVolt+Charging+Station!3m5!1s0x310313100182da17:0x4e95664436a937d8!8m2!3d12.7864965!4d101.6730116!16s%2Fg%2F11s5kfktt3?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDIwNS4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

Refer to your information, please be informed that we will provide a 1/2 pound complimentary birthday cake on your birthday.

How would more expert EV drivers plan this trip?

    Thank you!

  3. I tried a fast DC charger at a 7-11 close to my home and it worked, the hose or whatever it's called was heavy and just in a cupboard type thing that opens up once you scan the code but it was fine and it worked....so I guess if I need to fast charge quickly I can do that there and should be topped up to full in about 40 minutes. It's at a 7-11 so nothing to do If i need to wait around, but I could always just walk home or wait in the car 🙂

    It's good I have it.

This one was from EAAnywhere - Should I try others just for the sake of trying or am I good?

I have a 16amp adjustable charger coming that should let me charge at 3,5kw so that would other option other than the one supplied by BYD which currently charges at 1,8kw on my driveway. Those are my options now.

Giving myself some time - 2 months and then decide if I should invest in a home charger that goes faster at 7kw. Price quotes are at around 30K

When the Atto 3 was made in China it had a dash cam built in but when they shipped them to Thailand they removed the camera. It was a relatively easy to buy the camera online and fit it yourself.

Here is a video I made when I fitted one to my Seal

Thanks but mine already has the dash cam installed?! It comes with an 8ggb card and the dealer said I could put up to 128 gb card in if I wanted to.

  5. Thanks for helpful replies and kind words. I’ll ignore the off topic ones.

I was being impatient - spoke to dealer and changed country to Thailand and all was good. It was for the app on my phone. Car play etc connected no problem after first time pairing with phone.

Thanks for suggestions on trying to charge. I’ve got several close by I can try, doesn’t matter which one right? I’ve got a everywhere EV one closest at a 7-11.

i tried the included slow charger from byd in the socket in my driveway and that worked…..car was charging at 1.8kw but at least it worked!

I’ve bought an adjustable 8,10,12,14,16 amp charger hoping to get a bit faster of a charge if I cna charge at 16amp at home. Going to see how I do for next 2 months and then decide whether I need to invest in a better home charger that can give me 7kw.

drove car in town in Bangkok all day today. Obviously bit nervous new car and all but enjoyed it and happy. I did notice the steering to be a bit ‘heavy’ but maybe new car….? Also still haven’t going seat position but I am thinking it’s all bit of anxiety wig it being new and just having to get used to it.

have to watch videos etc as have the mirror triangle light and other beeps and things I don’t understand but happy so far!

  6. Currently have it charging in the driveway, with the included slow charger but at least I know that one works!

one thing I can’t figure out is how to find the QR code to link to the byd app for my iPhone??

oh and an annoying thing is I can’t open the windows for 7 days……apparently have to wait for the film tint to set. I had to open my door to get into my village and then I couldn’t get the car going - think it automatically goes into park when you open the door. That opening the door to get tickets form parkings etc will be annoying for the next 7 days….😡

You mean this ??? (main screen) - how does it block the view ??? isn't your eyeline to the bonnet above this ?

no, I mean the box thing above/behind the rearview mirror…..I think it’s just one of those things I need to get used to.

    Here is a link Taysla เครื่องชาร์จ3.5KW EV 16A เครื่องชาร์จไฟรถยนต์ชนิด2สายชาร์จชนิด1 16A j1772 evse 80V-260V สำหรับยานพาหนะไฟฟ้า | Lazada.co.th choose the Type 2 option.

This will work on your existing socket where you park your car and will charge at about 3.5Kw on the 16 amp setting.

Your house appears to have a good electrical installation, you shouldn't have any problem.

You can select 8, 10, 13 or 16 amps, the highest setting is 60% faster than the supplied charger.

If you have a breaker trip (unlikely) or you feel uncomfortable, knock the current down to 13 amp which is 30% faster than the supplied charger.  However, it should be perfectly OK at 16 amps, that's what the socket is rated at.

Cant seem to find this on Lazada or shopee - at least with any positive reviews.

Does anyone have a link? or to a similar brand of 16amp or less charger that is recommended for being good please?

    THANKS!

  9. Hello,

My finance has been approved and I pick up my BYD Atto3 extended MY2024 Thai version next week friday. Now I have to choose the XUV Ceramic tint percantages - 40/60/80 is what Ive been told but most importantly the dealer wants me to spend more money!

Now he is offering the following:

    A frunk for 8,490

Premium carpets 4 pieces for 3,800

    A battery guard for 16,265.50

And kevlar, seems like protections for different parts of the car....

The only thing that sort of pops out is the battery guard.....Is that worth it? Would you add anything from that, any of it worth spending more money?

  10. Does anyone have any info to confirm differences between the imported and the Thai version.

we went today to sign finance and see cars and we prefer the black colour due to the darker interior so we are going with that.

The black colour is the Thai version and I just would like to confirm that the only difference is the design of the wheels and has no impact.

thanks for any help - I can’t seem to find any info…

  11. Hey - I know some of you were very helpful @Pib and co with the window tint which is included.

but I need to clarify - what percentage or number should I choose for the windscreen? Windows - back windscreen and the sun roof? It’s the atto3.

just in a side note my kids are very much looking forward to the sunroof and love looking through it how will the tint impact that?

I know it will be personal choice but I want to go with the normal choices.

    thanks

  12. Thanks! So what would be normal vs not normal?

obviously I want try it out during the day when I can check in to

male sure all is good before I leave overnight to charge.

plug in wall will get warm but not too hot to the touch?

the charger type 2 that goes into the Atto3 should not get warm at all?

    thanks!

    Yes...it would work.

As to what you can "safely" start with current-wise requires you to know if there are any other electrical equipment on the same circuit and how much that equipment is pulling amp-wise.  Like maybe lights, outlets in the house that maybe your TV or similar equipment is hooked to....maybe a  microwave....may be an A/C....maybe who knows what.     Then add on what the charger will draw when in use.  Determine if you will then exceed the safe current draw for that circuit.

What if that circuit is not a standalone circuit and it just a branch of a circuit that is also powering other equipment/sockets in your home.   What if that circuit (and lets say it's a 16A circuit)  is almost always pulling 5A and maybe even a higher current (say 10A total) when certain in-frequently used equipment is turned on.  Well, if you plug in your EV charger set to 16A you are now up to 21A (or maybe 26A) being pulled exceeding the 16A circuit safe limit.

Well, you might think that the 16A circuit breaker will trip "immediately" whenever exceeding 16A but that is not the way a circuit breaker work.   That 16A circuit breaker will only trip once the current exceeds 16A for a certain length of time depending on how high the current actually is.  Circuit breakers have a "trip curve" which is typically a B or C curve in homes which determine when the breaker will trip after the 16A is exceeded...and as mentioned it depends on "how long" and "how high the current is"....both come into play as to when the breaker will trip.

Seems here in Thailand circuit breakers with a C-curve are used.  Just look at the front of the circuit breaker....if it says B16, B20, etc., it's B-curve circuit breaker, if it says C16, C20, etc., it's a C-curve circuit breaker.  A B-curve breaker has a faster trip curve than a C-curve breaker, but even that B-curve breaker does not trip immediately unless really high current is drawn.

A C-16A circuit breaker (which you probably have) would take well over 1000 (one thousand) seconds to trip with 21A going thru it.  If would not trip "immediately" (i.e., less than 1 second overload) until at least 80A and a max of  160A.   See below weblink and snapshot for more info on circuit breakers, tripping curves, etc.

The only way to "really" know how many amps a circuit is carrying is to measure it with an ammeter.  Maybe you have such an ammeter already on your main circuit box.  Maybe you have clamp-on ammeter?

wow! Thanks for such a detailed response.

honestly I understand most of it but still have questions:

how should I proceed? Should I set the charger to the lowest amp and charge or to the highest and see.

basically my question is, if I am going to wait a couple of months to install a wall box - need to continue conversations with landlord, he seems ok - and I buy this charger off lazada, how should I use it that makes it better than the slow charger supplied by byd?

    thanks!

  14. Hi All,

Like already discussed, will be waiting to install a wall charger for a couple of months. We are going to try to brave it without one for the first few months and then if we really need it will look at installing one.

Someone on here recommended this from Lazada:
    Charger

Just want confirmation that is going to be safe to use and will be slightly quicker that the one provided by BYD?

Also, what amps can I set it to safely? I have 2 normal sockets in my driveway which I will plug it into so please let me know....Should I start small at 8....or can I safely use 16A?

    Thanks

I have the Green Atto 3 for 2 years and I changed the SIM Card from Simtel to a better one. Because the Simtel SIM card only provides 2GB of data per month. The drawbacks seems to be that the Mobile App for the car wont work if you change the sim card. I cant make it work and I can't even find the original sim card 😄

Does anyone here uses the mobile app for the BYD?

I changed the rims and tires the first day I got the car to better ones, I dont trust the original Atlas tires.

Also, the other I saw a black BYD atto 3 made in Thailand, and I noticed the wheel and tires were different.

    the black Atto3 had 215/55 R17 tires

    mine had 215/50 R18 tires

    I change to 225/60 R18 Michelin SUV+

my custom wheels are also wider so I can put 235 and 245 tires , the original wheel should not exceed 215 tires.

next tires will be "235/50 R18"

Yes the wheel design is different, that's the only difference he said. If I get the black colour which is the Thai version with the different wheel designs is this better worse or doesn't matter?

A bit more of my rant on this car:

The mirrors SUX Badly! the left mirror can't be turned out far enough, so if you are a bigger person you will be seeing the tail of your car in half the mirror. for smaller people, no problem!

because I'm big and have long arms I have move the seat all the way to the back, while the side mirror maximum position doesn't let me see much. It is quite dangerous as well, so I dont drive that piece of crap anymore....

    Anyone have this issue?

Thanks, but this is not helpful at all. I have already decided to buy the car.

  17. Im not looking to get into any controversy. Just a clear - Does it matter whether it is the imported or the Thai version?

Right now I think I prefer the black because of the dark interior - just want to make sure that there are no major differences between the imported and the Thai version.
