Rising Political Extremism in East Germany Signals a Deepening Divide
Cameroni replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Total drivel. Many parties have tried to change things in Germany, with the net result that they were put on the surveillance list of the local bureau of Germany's domestic intelligence agency, had their funding withdrawn, were boycotted in parliament and in the case of Germany's very own political prisoner Horst Mahler were imprisoned for 10 years for thought crimes. No thanks. To call the AfD, a middle class conservative and patriotic party, a "Nazi" party is just evidence of a total lack of intellectual honesty. You don't need to wish for deportations, you have Horst Mahler who was imprisoned for 10 years in Germany for thought crimes. Intolerable indeed. -
Yes, so basically you could never drive from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, or take a tour through Thailand with the car without careful planning and calculation as to charging, where are the charging facilities, etc. It's just a headache you don't have a with a Hybrid or ICE. Not saying I do that every day, but it's nice to have that option. It's not just the sensible range arguments though, it's also the more intangible factor "feeling". Even when I see a new Honda Accord it can make my beating heart race faster. However, none of these Chinese BEVs can achieve that. Not sure why that is, but it seems to me the BEV only really appeals to people who are extremely careful with money or environmental people. But BEVs don't speak to the heart. When even a Honda Accord can accomplish that.
-
Indeed it's not the driving experience. It's the ability to fuel up at a petrol station whenever I need to. Unlike with a BEV which can't do that. So range, with a Hybrid, is never an issue. But with a BEV it's a headache.

You're getting a bit carried away with the frothing at the mouth there. Of course communism has failed and nobody wants it. However, Putin has been the greatest statesmen of our time. He has not only steered Russia through the most difficult challenges, which would have broken any other Western leader but he has ensured Russia can thrive. Her economy now is booming precisely because Putin spent years in austerity to save, to ensure when he launched his war against Ukraine he could buy off the populace and pay for the required expenses. The long game Putin is playing is sheer genius. So is the way he conducts the Ukraine war. He knows, given the economic superiority of Russia, he can just take his time. He does not need to take undue risks, like Ukraine has done out of desperation with Kursk. If Russia doesn't take Pokrovsk before Winter...okay, they'll take it in Spring. There is no rush. Ukraine is spending 38% of GDP on the war, Russia 5.9 % of GDP. Putin's achievements are tremendous and his conduct of the Ukraine war is that of a master chess player. Plus, he knows, should things go sideways he can use nuclear weapons. He can't lose.

Trump Intensifies Attacks on Harris as Race Heats Up
Cameroni replied to CharlieH's topic in Political Soapbox
Sure the casino failed. So what? Do you have any ideas how many failures to get to the X ray, the airplane, the car...? Failure is part and parcel of success. What did Jordan say? He's not so good because he scored the winning shot, but because he failed to score the winning shot hundreds of times. -

Not all business ventures succeed. That's a perfectly normal process in business, where you learn by doing and trying out things. But the fact remains, Trump is the only presidential candidate who actually made billions while runnig for office. -

Trump's stock in his media company is worth billions. Billions of US dollars which people like you have made for him. -
I think if you're driving sitting behind the exhaust pipe you're doing it wrong. In the Toureg I sat on camel coloured Puglia leather breathing in fine Vanilla scents. No smell whatsoever. And as for the car being "rattly", not even a little.

Ummm, Bobby Fischer was not an emigre. He was born and bred in the US. -
I was not expressing a position on the truthfulness of his claim. I was merely pointing out that him saying he got beat, in no way eliminates any of the claims he has made, or shows that he's abandoned those claims.

Trump doesn't know how to build a business? Oh Really? So he did not set up a media company that has added billions to his net worth recently? You realise every time people who have a frothing at the mouth aversion to him and who can't stop talking about him, do talk about him, you are making Trump more billions? His media company lives off the defamation that his Democrat opponents engage in on a daily basis. Much like fascism was a reaction to the perceived danger of communism, so is conservative nationalism today a reaction against the perceived dangers of extreme, woke, leftist activism. People like you are making Tump billions. And he's a genius to cash in on that. I think he may be the only politician who made billions while being president and/or running for office. -
Rising Political Extremism in East Germany Signals a Deepening Divide

It's like Johnny said, the left has permeated the entire body politic far too much and far too strongly. We basically have socialist market economies all over Europe, and especially in Germany. Even the CDU has adopted a myriad of socialist and leftist policies. For years the political establishment in Germany has tried to destroy any party that threatened the political establishment, to the extent of literally banning them. They could not do so thus far with the AfD because its leaders have learnt from the past mistakes of other parties and are scrupulous about not falling into the traps that would give their opponents the possibility to ban them under German law. For anyone who is not familiar with the dark side of German politics you should read the story of Horst Mahler. Mahler, a lawyer who was good friends with Otto Shily and many other establishment figures started out as a leftist and eventually drifted to the right. He published some material that violated Germany's laws against saying bad things about its past. Horst Mahler is now 88 years old. He had to spend over 10 years in prison for saying and writing the wrong thing. He did not attack anybody. He did not injure anybody. He did not kill anybody. But he had to spend 10 years in prison for thought crimes, for writing the wrong thing. Meanwhile a rapist in Germany got 2 years. Mahler got 10 years. Germany's very own political prisoner. Now released thankfully. -

In business, in media, in politics, it's self-evident that he is. -
I have of course. But the silence did not surprise me because I owned a Lexus ES300 Hybrid before. I find the near total silence unhelpful and even dangerous. Sometimes I did not know if the engine was on or not. In terms of performance there are no issues, you're right, apart from not having the top speed power of ICE cars, which is not an issue in Thailand. Something you can only remedy anyway with BEVs if you pay for the very expensive models. But range and the risk of fire are serious problems. If you can't park in a garage in South Korea because of the risk of fire, that's clearly not a non-issue, that's something that affects EV drivers there. And I would always be concerned about range with a BEV because I drive long distances. Some BEVs are fine vehicles of course, but given the choice between a good ICE car or a good Hybdrid and a good BEV, I would choose the petrol or Hybrid car every day, due to the driving experience and range advantages. Admittetedly I have not driven the Taycan, though seeing Tesla's issue with their flagship on the Nuerburg Ring, something ICE's just don't suffer from, perhaps even the Taycan would have to be tested thoroughly first.

harris San Francisco job performance includes…
Cameroni replied to riclag's topic in Political Soapbox
Another great article. And why did CNN's own not use this quote how Harris said the budgets of police are rightly questioned in the defunding debate? Dana was aware of Harris' flip flopping. But she did not use this defunding support which is on the record. Because they want to give Harris a soft ride. That's why that interview was taped too. So the embarassing bits could be edited out. -

You probably envy him deeply, deep down. Hence the animosity. The man is a genius. Politically, in business, in media. He has no equal. Why do you think Harris is so afraid to debate him? -

Nonsense, Bobby Fisher was as American as they come. Born in Chicago. Sadly he grew to hate his country. -

It's not. America has some of the smartest people in the world. The only Chess player who ever came close to the Russians was Bobby Fisher. But one only needs to look at Trump. A media genius. A real estate Moghul. Created a media company worth 5 billion in a few months. And on top of that the political genius of our lifetime. All the world envies America this remarkable man, Donald Trump -
You're so full of BS, it's unreal. This is a review of the MG ZS EV, a BEV apparently: "Also, weirdly, the car had a habit of making strange noises. Letting the car auto-brake in traffic, it made a terrible *CLUNK* noise when it came to a full stop. I have no explanation for this, however, I heard the same noise when I accelerated heavy from a complete stop. https://gizmodo.com.au/2022/10/mg-zs-ev-review/ As for the Touareg being "rattly": NEW TOUAREG SO QUIET "Today for the first time I let the VW have a bit of speed, and surprised how quiet it is. At between 140 and 150 mph there is such a small amount of road, wind or engine noise. My wife and I could hold a normal quiet conversation, she was shocked when she saw the speedo at 145mph and was so serene.. Quieter than my last X5, RS6, BMW 740. Quite impressed." https://www.mytreg.com/threads/new-touareg-so-quiet.87370/ Nor was the Touareg "smelly". All totally untrue nonsense.

Who's "moving goalposts"? No, your "intepretation" was total misinformation. "Nato jurisdiciton" was just a red herring. There were clear statements that NATO would not expand eastwards. "Not once, but three times, Baker tried out the “not one inch eastward” formula with Gorbachev in the February 9, 1990, meeting. He agreed with Gorbachev’s statement in response to the assurances that “NATO expansion is unacceptable.” Baker assured Gorbachev that “neither the President nor I intend to extract any unilateral advantages from the processes that are taking place,” and that the Americans understood that “not only for the Soviet Union but for other European countries as well it is important to have guarantees that if the United States keeps its presence in Germany within the framework of NATO, not an inch of NATO’s present military jurisdiction will spread in an eastern direction.” https://nsarchive.gwu.edu/briefing-book/russia-programs/2017-12-12/nato-expansion-what-gorbachev-heard-western-leaders-early That's just one example. The only reason why NATO did not expand eastwards all at once was because that would have prepcipated a confrontation with Russia much earlier, since they made it clear from 1989 that any expansion eastwards by NATO was wholly unacceptable. That's why NATO did this by stealth, creepingly, slowly, to avoid confrontation with Russia for as long as possible. The real confrontation did not happen because of Putin. What did Putin do that was so bad allegedly? Implement Western economic reforms? Assist the US with their space exploration programme? Keep his word on German reunification? The real reason was that in 2008 the NATO conference in Bucharest, Romania dropped all pretence and formally declared Ukraine and Georgia will become NATO members. THEN it was totally clear that the West had been lying all along. That it never intended to include Russia in a post unification reshaping of the security framework. Rather America and its allies would pursue a slow encircling tactic and expand NATO eastwards, ie do precisely that what Russia had warned was a line in the sand, and which the West had hitherto said it would not do. It wasn't Putin at all. It was the West.
