  1. Excellent question. Jared Diamond wrote a whole book on this. In a word, geography and environment. When Europeans developed certain advantages, say resistance to certain diseases, this was not due to genetic superiority but rather to wide spread trade, agriculture and intermingling, this widespread trade was faciliated by geography. Diamond argues geographic, climatic and environmental characteristics which favored early development of stable agricultural societies ultimately led to immunity to diseases endemic in agricultural animals and the development of powerful, organized states capable of dominating others. Diamond argues that Eurasian civilization is not so much a product of ingenuity, but of opportunity and necessity. That is, civilization is not created out of superior intelligence, but is the result of a chain of developments, each made possible by certain preconditions. He said Europe's geography favored balkanization into smaller, closer nation-states, bordered by natural barriers of mountains, rivers, and coastline. Advanced civilization developed first in areas whose geography lacked these barriers, such as China, India and Mesopotamia. There, the ease of conquest meant they were dominated by large empires in which manufacturing, trade and knowledge flourished for millennia, while balkanized Europe remained more primitive. However, at a later stage of development, western Europe's fragmented governmental structure actually became an advantage. Monolithic, isolated empires without serious competition could continue mistaken policies – such as China squandering its naval mastery by banning the building of ocean-going ships – for long periods without immediate consequences. In Western Europe, by contrast, competition from immediate neighbors meant that governments could not afford to suppress economic and technological progress for long; if they did not correct their mistakes, they were out-competed and/or conquered relatively quickly. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guns,_Germs,_and_Steel Whilst Europeans did dominate other cultures, it is important to realise that it was due to technology. Not superior intellect or physical ability. If you put a gun in a short weak man's hand, he will shoot you, no matter how much stronger and smarter you are. The emergence of this technology however was an accident of geography, competition and necessity, not superior culture, genetics or strength.
  2. I would say Let it Be is the stand out on that list, but only if Ray Charles sings it. Yesterday a clear number two. And I love her number three. long and winding road, something, elanor rigby, it's only love could also be considered. Michelle is really bad imho But good effort.
  3. That would be very welcomed, awesome news. Start today!
  4. It's particularly strange because Anglo-Saxon psychologists have found that Koreans, Japanese and some Chinese have a higher IQ on average than the British, Americans, Germans. So when it comes to intlellectual capacity the Asians are ahead, when it comes to athletic ability Jamaicans, African Americans and Kenyans are ahead of whites. The case for white culture is rather weak.
  5. They're hardly "prominent", but they are all women. It is becoming increasing clear that this election is the battle of the sexes, women against men. Any man voting for Kamala Harris is a traitor to his gender.
  6. Well, what Beatles song would you say is better than Birds of a Feather?
  7. Well, it's hardly surprising that you're ill-informed in this since you would have been brought up in an educational system that lied to you and claimed literally every major achievement was British. However, with the TV you can take your pick, any of the Russian Boris Rosing, who got a patent before Baird, Paul Nipkow, Max Dieckmann, Vladimir Sworykin, Denes von Mihaly, August Karolus all produced a TV before Logie Baird. Indeed Logie Baird just copied Paul Nipkow's technology. Before the 1927 London to Glasgow TV broadcast of Baird, was August Karolus transmission from Berlin to Leipzig in 1925. Baird no more invented the TV than the Thais invented Prostitution. But it's funny isn't it, when the Chinese copy Western technology they're disgraceful copycats, when the British copy existing technology they're celebrated pioneers, lol.
  8. Newcastle, France, China, Japan and Korea are delightful.
  9. Yes, indeed the Telephone was not a Scottish invention. Philip Reis of Germany invented it. The same with the TV, Paul Nipkow and Ferdinand Braun were the inventors of the TV. Plasters were really conceived by Paul Beiersdorf, not any Scot. The bicycle was invented by Philip Moritz Fischer, not any Scot. Like I said, the British are utterly shameless in claiming inventions they never invented.
  10. When you talk about German cars, there's always one pitiful soul that pulls out some survey, but the fact remains Germans still build the best cars on the planet, as they once again proved with the Porsche Taycan. As I already explained copying others is just a first step. After all the British started as pirates and stole everything from the Spanish and copied their idea of empire shamelessly. In academica the calculus and other areas illustrate the British were a nation of copyists and plagiarists, before they attained a modicum of creativity and originality, which admittedly was short lived. The same applied to German industry, yes, first engaged in copying British products, but ultimately far surpassing them and creating far better products than the British ever did. And so it will be with the Chinese, yes, they copied at first, but they are already showing incredible innovation and filing more patents than the US, UK or Germany, and they will surpass Germany, Japan and the USA in terms of quality of products, indeed in some areas have already done so.
  11. It looks like it. While the Scots have punched massively above their weight and brought forth many brilliant minds and contributed far in excess of their miniscule population, we should also take them to task when they falsely claim to have invented the telephone or tv, neither were Scottish inventions. Nor were the bicycle or plaster Scottish inventions. The British have a tendency to claim inventions which they never invented. Witness also the ludicrous acrobatics to claim the computer with Charles Babbage's punch cards, even in that area Wilhelm Schickard preceded Babbage, though to sell that as a computer really smacks of shamelessness.
  12. This nonsense was trotted out before, to attack the quality of German goods in the 19th century, when Germans were copying British products. As it turned out Germans were better at making products than the British and BMW now own Rolls Royce. It is already apparent that the same applies to Asian products made in China, and Chinese innovations will far exceed anything the British, Americans or Germans came up with. They are already filing more patents than the Americans.
  13. Monotheism, Christianity and such trifles as the alphabet spring to mind, but there's also: Printing press: China. Geometry: Mesopotamian and Egyptian. Gunpowder: China. Paper: China, Ball bearing: Been used since ancient times; Mesopotamian and Egyptian and others. Early writing systems: Mesopotamia and Phoenicians Calculus: Elements of calculus can be found on ancient Egypt, Greece, China, and the Middle East. Crubile steel: India and Sri Lanka 1st millennium. Carbon steel: Invented by the Haya people around 100 AD and other ironworking technology. The concept of zero: Mesoamerica, India Calendars: ancient Sumerian Cryptocurrency: Japan
  14. Yes, and whilst Thais are a delightful people, I have to confess, I have trouble following their superiority narrative. Even if they are clearly more civilized, friendlier and trustworthy than most White people, I woud still struggle to buy into a superiority narrative from Thais. Physically, intellectually, culturally, the Thais are respectable but in terms of superiority to others, even in Asia it would be hard to make that claim pass muster objectively. The same with similar claims in the Caribbean. For a nation to claim to be superior, they would have to have some serious claim to physical, intellectual and cultural superiority. Not just one based on sentimentality or emotion.
  15. I use a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 from 2019 which works magnificently, but if I had a choice I would opt for the Realme 12 Plus 5 G the next time around. Samsung phones charge too slowly.
  16. This is so true, even in the Caribbean, when I was living there the locals saw their own culture as superior, not blackness as such though, but Caribbean character, they saw themselves, as more honest, sweeter, more trustworthy and nicer than white people. The Slavs clearly think they are superior to the degenerate West, and if you go to Somalia I would not be surprised the Somalians found a reason to think themselves superior in some way. Of course none of this precludes that a particularly people is not actually superior, objectively, rather than subjectively.
  17. If Trump does not win in November the whole world will have lost. Instead a war mongering enabler of one of the most corrupt states in history, Ukraine, would be pushing Russia ever more closer to a hot war with the US, which is a disaster for the whole world. Harris wants to pour gasoline on the fire in Ukraine, like they, Harris, Biden and Boris Johnson, were doing from the start. It stands to reason that this is the most reckless, dangerous policy for the world. Luckily it looks like Trump will win and get a chance to defuse the situation, if not end the war entirely. What women see in that short, ugly moustachioed Ukrainian comedian, will remain a mystery though.
  18. She's highly intelligent, for a woman, and clearly not adverse to experiment, she would probably be a very entertaining bed mate, though I would respectfully disagree she is promiscous. I trust Elle on this. https://www.elle.com/culture/celebrities/a60864169/billie-eilish-dating-history-explained/
  19. I quite agree, Eilish is brilliant. She also has a distinctive style. Undoubtedly much is down to the input from her brother who is clearly an excellent song writer. The innovations on that list are not really innovations in Music btw. The Beachboys were more revolutionary musically speaking. Brian Wilson was a musical genius far above Lennon or McCartney. Even now, his Love and Mercy is breathtaking. I must quibble with one slight aspect, if I may, though, actually whilst it's true the title Birds of a Feather was used before I think Finneas and Billy were aware of this. The whole intention of the song appears to be to accept the challenge of taking tired cliches and breathing life into them, witness also the "love you til I die" clichee which Finneas and Billy brilliantly bring to life by taking it rather more seriously than is usually the case. In that sense the song is original and the harmonies are far more ground breaking than anything the Beatles ever produced. Though to be fair in terms of harmonies the Beatles were not very good usually.
  20. Well, to be fair 4 is pushing the envelope, I wouldn't go for it, but one has to be reasonable, objectively Billy is not a promiscous lass. Which is actually remarkable given the temptations she must face day in out. However, she comes form a very loving and intact family. In a way she's the prototype of family values, so it's hard to explain how she turned out. Must be LA.
  21. Nope. He is not. Firstly that was a civil trial, secondly the jury found the claimant had not proven her allegation of rape. Secondly, Imma miss that Fatty Arbuckle pic...
  22. Don't worry, despite much talk of bisexuality and other David Bowie like perversions, actually Billie has only had 4 partners. Compared to Taylor Swift she's very restrained. Though looking at her line up it's a sorry sight, you couldn't accuse her of promiscuity. Perversion maybe. But not promiscuity.
  23. If a song that is a work of genius, and history making signficance, then we must share this sublime experience. We cannot keep it to ourselves. That would just be selfish.
