  1. Found it, the article is on Bangkok Post, its still has the witness's statement in it, which makes more sense than the explanation in the TheThaiger article.
  2. Yeah, I read the same thing, can't find it now.....the original article had a witness stating the bikes were speeding and weaving in and out of traffic before colliding with each other just before being run over.
  3. So, if someone jumps off a cliff, everyone should?
  4. Speaking of which, does anyyone know what MFP's stance is on these new tax changes? For that matter, are these changes even acceptable to Pheu Thai's reluctant partners (the army, Royalist Elites)?
  5. Tax incentives for Thai's, tax increases for dirty farangs.....gotcha.
  6. I am happy with my MG ZS, at 730,000 baht I'm also not losing any sleep over my purchase. It would be twice that for a Mazda CX-5.
  7. But the damage has already been done, and living under constant threats isn't conducive to a healthy future here. They seem to be painting a target on expats, and some us don't like the pressure, we are getting the hint.....we are unwelcomed.
  8. They are basing their fears on a real threat made by the Director General of the Revenue Department. Ignoring that would be insane.
  9. The damage has already been done, anyone with any common sense is going take this as a serious threat.
  10. The one hilarious part of that, is where they want the public to be aware they need to be taxed more for their receiving better welfare and amenities?! Like out of control pollution and unsafe roads/sidewalks/zebra crossings.....substandard building practices, substandard electrical practices, corrupt governments, etc etc etc?.......improve the welfare, safety, and amenities first, and clean corruption out of government (at least to some form of reasonable level), then come and talk to us about more taxes.
  11. Which is why I am waiting on the sidelines, I have over $30,000 sitting in a Wise account waiting to be sent over as baht, will grow it to about $100,000 soon, but at least its earning 4.85%, so I'll let it sit for now.....also waiting on my Wise debit card to arrive, thought that might be a way to buy things without worrying about remittance, but that sounds like it won't work the way I planned, so I'm kind of stuck on the sidelines waiting for answers.
  12. I wouldn't even want to get to that point, which is why we need clear guidance before sending money. If it's in black and white, and they state what is acceptable evidence of savings beforehand, then so be it, but ambiguity? No way I am stepping into that hornets nest, especially here.
  13. I think some people are under the assumption that the Thai RD are required prove you've done your due diligence, things don't work that way in real life, its up to us to prove what we say, not them to prove us wrong.
  14. Every time I have dealt with "credible records" from overseas used in Thailand, they have needed special care as-in......Embassy/MFA stamps, translations, and signatures from multiple parties. I'm not taking any chances, especially after past experience with Thai bureaucracy.
  15. Yeah, but will anyone in Thai RD accept the records? Do they need to be stamped by your embassy, then translated to Thai, and then stamped by MFA before anyone accepts it? And with the US Embassy, they won't stamp any financial documents from the USA, so then what? Like I said, we really need some definitive answers from the Thai RD.
  16. Well, until they state what is acceptable proof of savings, it would be better not to send anything. I don't believe in the, just ignore it until they come looking approach.
  17. The only way you avoid taxes is death, and even then they tax you, no such thing as "just lay low" when the taxman cometh.
  18. What do they want to see as acceptable proof of funds being savings only? Do we still need to file a tax return for remittance of these non-assessable funds (savings) we've sent? I would hate to just ignore filing a tax return, then one day have RD question millions of baht being sent into the country, then have them not accept whatever proof I feel is acceptable, but they don't.
  19. This is the part I want to have concrete verification from the RD on before I remit anything more, that it is indeed non-assessable income, and there is no need to file a return showing it (the remittance). Until that happens, I am living off what I sent before January 1st 2024, and no more money will be sent until I am sure this is settled.
  20. Until the poor people who benefit most from our bringing money here realize their gravy train has ended, then they hang the current administration from trees.
  21. I hope this Director General of the Revenue Department was authorized to let this info out, because she could soon become a sacrificial lamb when the proverbial you know what hits the fan. No good will come from her announcement, and it will more than likely cause a mass exodus of capital, exactly what Thailand doesn't need right now.
  22. Party is over, say goodbye to capital inflows, dead on arrival!
