Ittisak Khamkhun, Superintendent of Highway Police Station 2, along with other senior officers, that the police had successfully apprehended 48-year-old Mr. Thanakrit under an arrest warrant issued by the Nonthaburi Provincial Court (No. 433/2567) on 27 November 2024. He is charged with “joint embezzlement of property.” A second suspect, 29-year-old Ms. Kanyakorn, also known as Ratchaya, was arrested under a similar warrant (No. 434/2567). The authorities seized a grey Toyota Yaris along with its key and licence plates. The news conference took place at the Pattaya Highway Police Service Unit in Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. The investigation began on 9 March, when officers on patrol along Highway 3, near kilometre markers 153-154 in Sattahip, noticed a black Toyota suddenly switching lanes before entering a turn off over a bridge. The erratic driving raised suspicions, prompting police to signal the vehicle to stop for inspection. Mr. Thanakrit was behind the wheel, with Ms. Kanyakorn in the passenger seat. Officers quickly identified several irregularities: the vehicle had no visible tax disc, no registration document, and the licence plates belonged to a different vehicle, a white Mitsubishi. The pair and the vehicle were taken to the Pattaya Highway Police Service Unit for further investigation. Upon checking police records, officers discovered that Mr. Thanakrit was wanted under an active warrant. The Toyota Yaris in question had been reported stolen by its rightful owner at Rattanathibet Police Station. Further investigations revealed that Mr. Thanakrit and Ms. Kanyakorn had been operating a car and motorcycle rental scam, renting vehicles, disabling their GPS tracking systems, and then selling them. Stolen cars were sold on the second-hand black market, while motorcycles were trafficked to Myanmar and Cambodia. Reports indicate that victims had filed complaints with at least four police stations: Pan Thong, Pattaya City, Nonthaburi, and Kanchanaburi. These included injuries to his right cheekbone, jaw, neck, under the chin, left chest, and right side. The accident crash along Saeng Chuto Road in Moo 9, Don Khamin subdistrict, Thamaka district, Kanchanaburi province. The truck, registered in Nakhon Pathom and en route from Ban Pong in Ratchaburi to Thamaka in Kanchanaburi, was captured on CCTV driving at high speed. Footage shows the vehicle suddenly climbing onto the median, striking a street light, and then careening across to smash into a traffic sign and the wall of a residential property, leaving significant damage in its wake. A second CCTV camera, positioned on the opposite side of the road, clearly recorded the truck’s erratic movement. Remarkably, a car travelling from the opposite direction managed to brake in time, narrowly avoiding a collision that could have resulted in a pile-up. They reported that the truck had collided with the fence of a nearby house, causing the wall to collapse. The driver, who remained in the cab, appeared disoriented but was not physically injured. At approximately 15:30, police and emergency services responded to the scene in Sikhiu district, where a Bangkok-Yasothon coach had collided with the rear of a lorry carrying bricks. The front of the coach was severely damaged, trapping the driver inside with serious injuries. Eleven passengers, five men and six women, were rescued and treated at the roadside for cuts and bruises before being taken to hospital. Rescue teams used hydraulic cutters to free the driver, a man aged between 35 and 40, who suffered severe facial injuries and broken limbs. He was rushed to Sikhiu Hospital for urgent treatment. The lorry, registered in Roi Et province, was driven by 39-year-old Mr. Sakchai Hobangkapka. He told police he had been driving at normal speed when the coach suddenly slammed into the back of his vehicle. CCTV footage from a nearby shop confirmed that the coach had been travelling at speed before impact. Shockingly, passengers revealed that they had already been involved in a previous crash earlier that morning in Saraburi province. The original coach driver had reportedly fallen asleep at the wheel, causing a minor crash. The bike was registered to a Myanmar factory worker, 30-year-old Ms. Zaza, who had been reported missing. Investigators learned she had last been seen with her close acquaintance, Mr. Pai Aung Chit. Under questioning, Mr. Pai Aung Chit admitted to stabbing Ms. Zaza to death and discarding her body in a nearby overgrown area. He later led police and forensic officers to the site, where her body was found with five stab wounds. The suspect claimed they had been in a relationship for about a month, during which Ms. Zaza had borrowed 5,000 baht from him. On the night of the murder, she arranged to meet him, leading him to believe she would return the money. However, an argument ensued, during which she allegedly took his phone, deleted its contents, and smashed it. According to his statement, she then grabbed a knife he had been carrying, and in the ensuing struggle, he managed to wrest it from her. Mr Praumuan, a local rice farmer whose fields had yielded a promising harvest this season, had been preparing his land for the upcoming dry season. He had arranged for a tractor to plough over the rice straw piled on his field, but the machinery was unable to operate due to the hard ground conditions. According to witnesses, Mr Praumuan had left home early that morning, stating he was heading to his rice field. When he failed to return by the evening, concerned relatives visited the field and discovered his burnt body near a clump of bamboo. A preliminary examination by attending doctors revealed extensive burns, but no signs of external wounds. The location, approximately 200 metres above the road, led to a prompt response by the local disaster response team and a specialised rescue unit. The victim, estimated to be between 40 and 50 years old, was found near a natural stream. The advanced state of decomposition suggests that he may have been dead for more than two weeks. A white mobile phone charger was discovered wrapped around the man’s neck, along with several items scattered nearby, including a short-sleeved shirt, a pair of shorts, trainers, a bottle of shower cream, and an insulated cup. All evidence has been collected for further analysis. The body has been transferred to the Forensic Department at Maharaj Nakhon Chiang Mai Hospital for a detailed post-mortem examination to ascertain the true cause of death. On 10 March, officers from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), along with Chiang Saen police, the Royal Thai Navy’s Mekong security unit, the Pha Muang military task force, and Chiang Saen customs officials, conducted a search at a private export warehouse in Wiang, Chiang Saen district, Chiang Rai province, near the Thai-Lao border along the Mekong River. The operation followed intelligence reports that a Chinese-owned company had arranged for the shipment of two large pallets, covered by white plastic, claiming they contained machinery destined for a stone-crushing plant in Shan State, Myanmar. However, upon inspection, officials found that they did not contain machinery but rather six blue drums filled with a white, cloudy, and pungent-smelling powder, totalling 1,500 kg. Initial field tests using chemical reagents turned the samples black and light blue, indicating the presence of unknown substances. Samples were collected in seven plastic containers and sent to a specialised laboratory for further analysis at the ONCB’s narcotics testing and research institute. Emergency responders from the Mittraphap Samakkhi Foundation, operating in the Hat Yai area, were alerted to the incident when a call was received reporting that someone was threatening to jump from the tower beside the railway line in the community behind the police station. Upon arrival, rescue officer Mr Trayaphop Disara discovered the elderly woman standing atop the signal pole. Despite his initial efforts to persuade her to descend, she insisted on waiting for her son to join her before coming down. “She said she was just waiting for her son and would come down as soon as he arrived,” Mr Disara explained. After her son arrived, the situation was resolved as the woman agreed to descend. Due to her advanced age and evident distress, the rescuers supported her carefully to ensure her safety during the descent, a process that took more than 20 minutes. No injuries were reported. Further enquiry revealed that the woman appeared to be under considerable stress, reportedly burdened by financial difficulties and unresolved debts, which may have contributed to her emotional state. At around 22:00 on 9 March, Lieutenant Setthachoke Wongamat, an investigator from Bang Kaeo Police Station, received a report of a fatal fall at a company dormitory belonging to Hong Thai Packaging Co., Ltd., located at 111/7 Moo 7, Soi Mahachai, Bang Phli Yai, Bang Phli District. Police officers, along with a medical examiner from Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital and rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, were dispatched to the scene. The incident occurred at a four-storey dormitory. The deceased, identified as Somsak Sophee, 44, from Sa Kaeo Province, was found lying on his back in a narrow alley beside the staircase. He was wearing black trousers, and initial examinations revealed severe injuries, including a broken right arm, a fractured neck, and a head wound with significant bleeding. Police inspected his room on the fourth floor (Room 406) but found no signs of a struggle. His belongings remained undisturbed, and both the television and fan were still switched on. According to Kasem Buachum, 56, who witnessed the incident, Mr Somsak had been drinking with friends outside the dormitory before heading back to his room on the fourth floor. As he attempted to descend to the ground floor, he lost his footing on the stairs at the third-floor landing and fell backwards, down the concrete stairwell, which had no railings to the ground level, suffering the fatal injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fall was accidental and caused by intoxication. The victim’s body has been sent for an autopsy at Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital to confirm the cause of death. His mother has issued a warning to other parents, as the boy was released from hospital on 10 March. The child, identified as Theerapat, was playing at a friend’s house with his mother, Mrs. Laddawan, 32, when the incident occurred. While the adults were chatting, the boy unknowingly picked up the bottle, which contained a rubber-tapping acid, and took a sip. He immediately began vomiting violently and crying in pain. His mother rushed him to Chaiyaphum Hospital, where doctors found severe acid burns in his mouth, throat, and stomach. Due to extensive tissue damage, surgeons were forced to remove parts of his stomach and intestines. Fortunately, after intensive treatment, Theerapat has since started to recover and has been discharged from hospital to continue his recovery at home. His mother urging other parents to closely supervise young children to prevent similar incidents.
