Picture of arrest. In a shocking case of human trafficking, an 18-year-old woman, identified as "Gift", was arrested for allegedly acting as a broker in the sexual exploitation of a 14-year-old girl. The arrest was made following an investigation led by the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD) of the Royal Thai Police. The operation was spearheaded by Pol. Maj. Gen. Songklod Kriakkitya, commander of the ATPD, alongside a team of officers including Pol. Col. Alongkot Kochakaew, superintendent of Division 5, ATPD, and Pol. Lt. Col. Krieng Snohsamnieng, deputy superintendent. The arrest took place at Gift's residence in Moo 6, Soi 8, Tha Lo Subdistrict, Tha Muang District, Kanchanaburi Province. The investigation began after authorities discovered a X account under the handle "@gilgnaka," allegedly operated by Gift, which advertised the sexual services of minors and young women in Kanchanaburi and nearby areas. The posts offered services for 1,000 to 1,500 baht per session. Following the discovery, police gathered evidence and obtained an arrest warrant from the Criminal Court on 21st February 2025. Undercover officers then posed as clients to arrange a meeting with the 14-year-old victim, identified as "Bee". Bee revealed that she had been contacted by Gift, who offered her work in the sex trade. Gift allegedly took a cut from each transaction as a broker's fee. This testimony led to the arrest of Gift at the scene, on 13 March. During interrogation, Gift confessed to her involvement in the sex trade, stating that she had been working in the industry since the age of 15. As she grew older, she found it increasingly difficult to attract clients, who reportedly preferred younger girls. This prompted her to transition into a brokering role, facilitating the exploitation of minors. Gift has been charged with human trafficking, procuring individuals for sexual exploitation, and other related offenses. She has been handed over to Division 5 of the ATPD for further legal proceedings. This case highlights the ongoing issue of human trafficking and the exploitation of minors in Thailand, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and preventive measures to protect vulnerable individuals. -- 2025-03-14

Pictures from responders. A pickup truck driver who allegedly fell asleep at the wheel crashed into a roadside stall in Udon Thani, leaving one woman dead and another seriously injured. The crash occurred at approximately 13:20 on 12 March near the U-turn at Ban Phasuk, on the outbound lane of Mittraphap Road (Udon Thani–Khon Kaen), in Phasuk Subdistrict, Kumphawapi District. Local police from Kumphawapi Police Station, along with emergency responders from the Prachatham Rescue Unit, rushed to the scene. Authorities found a white Toyota box truck had crashed into a makeshift stall selling khao lam (bamboo sticky rice), completely destroying it. The vehicle had then veered off the road and ended up in a nearby rice field, severely damaged. Two victims, a mother and daughter who ran the stall, were found injured. The mother, identified as Suwanna 48, suffered severe head trauma, multiple fractures, and was unconscious at the scene. Her 19-year-old daughter, Rassamee sustained injuries as well. Both were transported to Kumphawapi Hospital, where Suwanna was later pronounced dead. Police interrogated the driver, Supakit 23, a resident of Mu 13, Mueang Yang Subdistrict, Chamnni District, Buriram. He stated that he was transporting asphalt from Nong Khai to Samut Prakan, accompanied by a passenger. As he approached the U-turn, he reportedly experienced a momentary blackout due to drowsiness, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The truck then ploughed into the roadside stall, striking both vendors before crashing into the rice field. Both the driver and his passenger suffered minor injuries. Police have charged Supakit with reckless driving causing injury and death and will proceed with legal action. -- 2025-03-14

Police officers from the Consumer Protection Division (CPD) in collaboration with the Human Trafficking Division (HTD) carried out a series of coordinated raids on 11 to 12 March, targeting the illegal production and sale of nitrous oxide (commonly known as ‘laughing gas’) balloons. Picture courtesy of CPD. The operation followed an extensive investigation into suppliers operating on Khao San Road, in Bangkok. After gathering intelligence on the source of the gas, its storage locations, and the distribution network, including its sale through online platforms, the authorities executed search warrants at nine sites across Bangkok and the surrounding provinces. The raids took place in Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani, and several districts in Bangkok, including Chatuchak, Bang Bon, Wattana, Suan Luang, Wang Thong Lang, Sathorn, and Khlong Toei. During the raids, a total of 46,246 items, were seized. This included 40,975 canisters of nitrous oxide gas, 3,698 balloons for filling with the gas, and 1,591 cylinders used for dispensing the gas. Authorities confirmed that these actions violated the Food Act of 1979, which prohibits the sale of products with incorrect labelling, punishable by fines up to 30,000 baht. Additionally, selling nitrous oxide for recreational inhalation without proper authorisation falls under the Narcotic Act of 1970, with penalties including up to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to 10,000 baht. Pol. Gen. Prajuab Wongsuk, Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, expressed concern over the illegal distribution of nitrous oxide and reiterated the importance of law enforcement’s role in preventing harm to public health. “The National Police are committed to preventing the illegal distribution of dangerous substances like nitrous oxide and e-cigarettes, which remain banned and pose significant health risks,” he said. “This operation is part of an ongoing effort to address such issues and protect the public from harmful substances.” Authorities also raised alarm about the dangers of inhaling nitrous oxide, commonly used in balloons for recreational purposes. Nitrous oxide displaces oxygen in the body, leading to potential brain damage, unconsciousness, and even death if misused. “The substance can cause dizziness, nausea, and loss of motor control, which could lead to injuries or fatalities,” warned Suphawadee Teerawatsakul, director of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). She advised the public, particularly tourists visiting entertainment areas, to avoid using laughing gas due to its severe effects on the brain and nervous system. The CPD is continuing its investigation into the source and distribution of the seized nitrous oxide. Officials are focusing on preventing further illegal sales and are monitoring online platforms where the substance may still be offered for sale. The police have also urged citizens to report any illegal distribution or suspicious activity involving nitrous oxide or other harmful substances. The crackdown follows previous successful operations against the illegal sale of laughing gas and vaping products, with authorities reiterating that the public should stay informed about the risks associated with recreational substance misuse. -- 2025-03-14

Pictures from responders. A collision occurred in Trang province when a passenger train collided with a pickup truck at a railway crossing, resulting in four fatalities and six injuries. The incident took place at 14:40 on 13 March, in Bang Mak Subdistrict, Kantang District, when the Kantang–Bangkok Apiwat train struck a pickup truck attempting to cross the tracks. At the scene, a black half-cab pickup truck was found severely damaged, with the rear section completely wrecked. Authorities confirmed that four people died at the scene, while six others sustained injuries. Among the victims, six were inside the vehicle, while four had been sitting in the back of the truck. Eyewitnesses described hearing a loud crash and seeing bodies thrown from the vehicle in different directions. “I was selling goods nearby when I heard the impact. It was terrifying. I ran over and saw people thrown from the truck, it was shocking,” one witness recounted. The train driver stated that he had sounded the horn as the train approached the crossing, but the pickup truck failed to stop in time. Due to the speed and weight of the train, he was unable to bring it to an immediate halt, resulting in the collision. The truck’s driver survived the crash, but those sitting in the back were thrown from the vehicle, suffering serious injuries or fatal blows. Police Colonel Pradit Chaiphol, Chief of Kantang Police Station, revealed that the pickup truck was transporting workers from a black tiger prawn farm. Investigations showed that the train had been approximately 200 metres from the crossing when the driver noticed the pickup approaching. Despite repeated warning signals, the driver proceeded, leading to the crash. Following the incident, both the train driver and the pickup truck driver were tested for alcohol and drugs. While no alcohol was found in their systems, the pickup driver tested positive for drugs and admitted to having taken them before driving. Authorities have charged the pickup truck driver with reckless driving causing death. Further investigations, including interviews with survivors and witnesses, are underway as legal proceedings continue. SRT confirmed that it was an illegal shortcut constructed without permission. However as it is commonly used and for safety reasons, warning signs, traffic signs, flashing lights, and warning signs on both sides had been installed, meant to increase safety for road users. -- 2025-03-14

Picture from reenactment. A 17-year-old teenager has been arrested for fatally stabbing his 19-year-old friend at a birthday party, reportedly over a long-standing personal feud. Police from Banglamung Police Station, led by Deputy Superintendent Pol. Lt. Col. Kornpong Sookvisit, apprehended the suspect, identified as Inthakhwin, known as “Win”, following the attack on Pichat, known as “Jeab”, during a birthday gathering at a house in Banglamung District. The incident took place at approximately 11:00 on 13 March, at a residence that also operates as a boat repair workshop. The victim was stabbed in the left side of his chest, with the wound piercing his heart. Despite being rushed to Banglamung Hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Authorities found a 32-centimetre knife, believed to be the murder weapon, near a sofa at the crime scene. The suspect later confessed and participated in a police reconstruction of the events. According to Win, tensions between him and Jeab had been building for some time. The two had known each other for nearly two years and had previously lived together. Win claimed that he had introduced Jeab to his circle of friends and had even partnered with him in a small business venture. However, he alleged that Jeab frequently belittled him, leading to resentment. During the birthday celebration, their friends encouraged them to resolve their differences. However, Jeab reportedly insulted Win, saying, “People like you will never get far.” Enraged, Win left the gathering, retrieved a knife from the kitchen, and returned to stab Jeab before fleeing the scene. After learning that the victim had been taken to hospital, Win returned to the house, called his mother, and decided to surrender to police. The suspect is now in police custody at Banglamung Police Station, where he awaits legal proceedings. -- 2025-03-14

Pictures from responders. A devastating nine-vehicle collision on Mittraphap Road in Muak Lek district, Saraburi province, has left one person dead and four others injured, including an eight-year-old girl. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the collision. The crash occurred at kilometre 29 on the inbound lane towards Saraburi. Among the vehicles involved were a saloon car, pickup trucks, a 10-wheel lorry, a raw milk tanker, and an 18-wheel articulated lorry carrying rice. The driver of the 18-wheeler, who collided with the rear of a 10-wheel lorry, was trapped inside his cab. Despite rescue workers’ efforts to free him using hydraulic cutting tools, he succumbed to his injuries before he could be extracted. He has been identified as Mr. Rewat 47. The other four injured victims were travelling in a burgundy Isuzu pickup truck. Among them were a young girl (8), two women with minor injuries, and the girl’s mother, who was critically wounded and rushed to Kaeng Khoi Hospital. The others received first aid at the scene before being taken to Muak Lek Hospital. The collision led to severe traffic congestion, with oil leaking from the damaged vehicles onto the road. Emergency services worked quickly to clear the wreckage and restore the flow of traffic. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and dashcam recordings to determine the cause of the crash. Preliminary reports suggest that a combination of wet road conditions due to rain and poor visibility may have contributed to the pile-up. A car driver involved in the crash reported that while approaching the scene, he noticed vehicles already at a standstill. As he attempted to steer away and stop, his car was suddenly struck by an oncoming lorry. Police from Muak Lek Police Station, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Wanlop Anwong, are continuing their inquiries and have called in the drivers involved for questioning. Further investigations will focus on whether speeding, driver error, or road conditions played a role in the deadly crash. -- 2025-03-14

Picture from responders. A horrifying discovery was made in Khlong Song, Khu Khot district, Pathum Thani, when a fisherman stumbled upon the body of a newborn baby inside a bag weighted down with concrete. The police are now investigating the case, reviewing CCTV footage in a bid to identify who dumped the body. Authorities were alerted after a local fisherman, Mr. Prajak Wangchuen, 43, found a black fabric bag floating in the canal while casting his net. Initially entangled with tree branches, the bag was pulled up along with his fishing gear. Though he considered discarding it, something compelled him to open it. To his shock, he discovered the decomposing body of a newborn baby wrapped in multiple plastic bags and a piece of clothing, with a concrete slab placed inside to weigh it down. Police officers from Khu Khot Police Station, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Ratchata Rattanajongwijit, were dispatched to the scene along with forensic experts from Phumipol Adulyadej Hospital and rescue volunteers. The area, once part of the now-defunct Khu Khot Floating Market, is located at the end of Phahonyothin 64 alley, near the embankment of Khlong Song. A preliminary examination revealed that the baby was a full-term male infant. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, attracting swarms of insects. Pol. Col. Kantapon Wanna, Superintendent of Khu Khot Police Station, stated that officers had documented the crime scene and collected the bag and wrapping materials as evidence. Investigators are now combing through CCTV footage to trace anyone seen carrying a similar bag in the area. They are also identifying pregnant women in the vicinity who may have recently given birth. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward as they work to uncover the circumstances behind this incident. -- 2025-03-14- 1 reply

Picture from responders. A 65-year-old Italian national has been found dead beneath a bridge in Ranong, after what appears to have been a fatal fall. The discovery was made by a local resident who had stopped at the bridge to relieve himself. At approximately 18:00 on 12 March, police in Ranong were alerted to the presence of a foreign man’s body lying face-down on the embankment of Khlong Rahat, beneath a bridge in the Khao Niwet area of Mueang Ranong district. The location was close to a national telecommunications company’s fence and around 100 metres from the site of the 2025 Annual Ranong Hot Spring Tourism Festival. The man who found the body reported that, while urinating by the bridge, he looked down and noticed a motionless figure among the tall grass. Concerned, he immediately alerted nearby traffic police officers stationed at the festival. Police investigators, forensic teams, and rescue workers were swiftly dispatched to the scene, with Pol. Lt. Col. Suphachai Boontham leading the initial inquiry. Ranong’s chief of police, Pol. Col. Thawatchai Suncharoen, later arrived to oversee the investigation. The deceased was identified as Mr Ricci Marco, a 65-year-old Italian tourist. His left cheek was resting against a concrete drainage pipe, and he had sustained serious facial injuries, including lacerations around the eye socket and cheek, as well as bruising to the throat and Adam’s apple. Forensic examiners estimated that he had died at least 10 hours or longer, before being found. His belongings were still on his person, and no other signs of foul play were detected. A key marked “B2” was discovered in his pocket, possibly indicating his accommodation. A local motorcycle taxi driver recalled seeing a foreign man behaving unsteadily near the festival entrance the previous night. Additionally, nearby residents reported hearing dogs barking loudly around midnight, which may indicate the approximate time of the incident. Investigators believe Mr Marco may have attempted to step over a water pipe to relieve himself at the bridge, a common practice among locals, when he lost his footing and fell approximately two metres, striking his head fatally. Authorities are currently working to contact the Italian embassy and Mr Marco’s family while continuing their inquiries into the circumstances of his death. His body has been transferred to Ranong Hospital for an autopsy. -- 2025-03-13

Picture captured from CCTV. A man in Bangkok threw his girlfriend from the fifth floor of an apartment building before jumping after her in a shocking act of jealousy. The woman is in critical condition, while the man sustained even more severe injuries. According to activist Kan Jompalang, the parents of the victim, identified as Ms. Mim, sought justice after their daughter was brutally assaulted by her boyfriend. The attack reportedly stemmed from the man’s jealousy after discovering that Ms. Mim had been chatting with a tomboy online, in what he believed to be a romantic context. The suspect allegedly lured the tomboy to his apartment under false pretences, asking her to wait by the stairs. When she arrived, he immediately tried strangled her, but she managed to escape and fled the building. The attacker then turned his aggression towards Ms. Mim, strangling her until she lost consciousness. CCTV footage captured him carrying her over his shoulder out of the room before ascending to the fifth floor, where he threw her over the edge. Moments later, he jumped after her. Emergency responders found both individuals with severe injuries. However, the man’s condition was reported to be worse than the victim’s, rendering him unable to communicate, while Ms. Mim has since regained consciousness. Reports indicate that Ms. Mim had previously been physically abused by the suspect and had attempted to leave the relationship. However, he had managed to persuade her to return to him. Ms. Mim’s family has expressed concerns that the case may not receive the attention it deserves and has requested assistance in ensuring justice is served. Kan Jompalang has vowed to liaise with Min Buri police to ensure the case is thoroughly investigated. “This is a shocking and brutal case. Even if jealousy was involved, no one has the right to throw another person from a building. The consequences of such actions destroy lives and futures,” Kan stated. Authorities are currently gathering witness statements, as bystanders reportedly tried to intervene but were ignored by the assailant. The investigation is ongoing. -- 2025-03-13

Picture courtesy of Khaosod. The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has reported on 12 March, that there has been two deaths from rabies in Thailand so far this year. The fatalities, recorded in Chonburi and Si Sa Ket provinces, were linked to individuals who had been bitten by dogs but failed to seek medical attention and receive post-exposure vaccination. Dr Panumas Yanawetsakul, Director-General of the DDC, revealed that between 1 January and 9 March 2025, Thailand had recorded 54 rabies-infected animals from 835 tested samples, representing an infection rate of 6.47%. The highest rates of infection were found in Buriram, Khon Kaen, and Maha Sarakham provinces. Among infected animals, 75.93% were dogs, followed by cattle (16.66%) and cats (7.41%). In response, the Department of Livestock Development has issued temporary epidemic control zones under the Animal Epidemic Act 2015, aiming to contain the spread of rabies within 30 days and prevent further transmission. Dr Panumas reassured the public that rabies is preventable and urged people to follow the “Five Don’ts” to minimise risk: 1. Don’t tease – Avoid provoking dogs. 2. Don’t step on them – Be careful not to startle or step on animals. 3. Don’t break up fights – Do not separate fighting dogs with bare hands. 4. Don’t touch their food – Avoid handling a dog’s food while it is eating. 5. Don’t approach stray animals – Refrain from interacting with unfamiliar or stray animals. Additionally, individuals should avoid handling potentially infected animals and refrain from consuming products such as raw milk from infected livestock. What to Do If Bitten by an Animal The DDC strongly advises anyone bitten, scratched, or licked on an open wound by a dog or other animal to follow these steps immediately: 1. Wash the wound – Clean the area thoroughly with soap and water for 10–15 minutes. 2. Apply antiseptic – Use disinfectant or antiseptic to reduce the risk of infection. 3. Seek medical attention – Visit a doctor to assess the need for rabies vaccination. 4. Observe the animal – Keep the animal under observation for at least 10 days. If it dies, a rabies test should be conducted. Pet owners are reminded to vaccinate their dogs and cats against rabies every year. Regular vaccination helps maintain herd immunity and prevents outbreaks. Local authorities routinely conduct rabies vaccination campaigns, and residents can check with their local administrative offices for information on upcoming vaccination drives. -- 2025-03-13
