At approximately 08:00 on 4 March, authorities were notified of a male body floating face down in the Nan River near a floating home in Moo 8, Tha Thong subdistrict, close to Wat Sawang Arom. The body was dressed in a black T-shirt and jeans, matching the description of the missing student. Emergency responders, police officers, and Man’s relatives arrived at the scene, where his family confirmed his identity. The body was taken to the pier at Wat Jung Nang before being sent to Naresuan University Hospital for a post-mortem examination. At Sawan Chom Nan Park in Phitsanulok, Sumarn, 49, the student’s mother, who had travelled from Nakhon Sawan, had been camping in the park for three nights, hoping for news of her son. Mr Nit Yonram, 52, an assistant village headman, was among the over 100 people attending a funeral next to the school when the fire broke out. Spotting the flames, villagers, teachers, and local police officers at the ceremony rushed to contain the fire while others called for fire engines. Their quick intervention ensured the blaze was brought under control before it could engulf the entire building. Mr Nit said: “If no one had been around at that moment, the fire could have destroyed the entire building.” Mr Saritphon, the school director, confirmed that the fire originated in the PA system room before spreading. The damage is estimated to be around 100,000 baht. Emergency responders from Sakhon Nakhon Hospital’s 1668 command centre were alerted to an unconscious person, but upon arrival, they found the victim had already died at the scene. The deceased was identified as Mr. Them, 51, a former village headman of Ban Dong Noi. His body was found lying on his back, wearing a jacket and long trousers, with a gunshot wound to the right side of his torso, which had penetrated his chest. Nearby, officers discovered a gun leaning against a water jar and a spent shell on the ground. The gunman, Mr. Pholsak, 47, was the owner of the house where the incident took place. He called the police himself and was found sitting underneath the house, waiting to surrender. He admitted to shooting the victim from the upper floor, hitting him in the back as he walked towards the bathroom, from a distance of around 12-15 metres. Emergency responder Thanatorn, who arrived at the scene, reported that the suspect insisted he would not flee and repeatedly stated that the incident was a result of emotional distress he could no longer contain. As tensions ran high, police quickly took him to Dong Mafai Police Station, fearing reprisals from the victim’s family and local villagers. The victim’s wife, 46, said her husband and the suspect had been cutting tree branches together earlier that day after a storm had caused damage near the suspect’s house. They had lunch and continued drinking together, while she returned home about 100 metres away. She later heard a loud gunshot and was called back to the scene by a relative, only to find her husband lying motionless. She was shocked by the killing, as the two men had been close friends. While rumours suggested the shooting stemmed from jealousy over alleged messages between her husband and the suspect’s wife, she dismissed these claims, stating there was no evidence to support them. A witness, 18-year-old Mr. Hai, who had been helping with the tree cutting, said the suspect appeared heavily intoxicated before firing the shot. After shooting, he allegedly turned to Hai and asked, “Shall I fire another?”, prompting the young man to flee on his motorbike in fear. Neighbours also noted that the suspect had been jealous of the victim’s friendship with his family, leading to mounting tensions. At Dong Mafai Police Station, forensic officers collected gunpowder residue samples from the suspect’s hands as part of the investigation. When questioned about his motive, he remained silent. The remains were covered with a fertiliser sack and plastic bags, and police have yet to confirm the victim’s gender. On 4 March, Police Lieutenant Nevin Suntavanik, an investigator from Huai Yai Police Station, was notified about the body near kilometre marker 25+400 in Pong subdistrict, Bang Lamung district. Officers, along with forensic investigators and rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation, were immediately dispatched to the scene. The body was located approximately 50 metres from the main road, inside a grove of acacia trees. It was in an advanced state of decomposition, suggesting the victim had been dead for several days. Nearby, police also found a pile of discarded electrical wire casings, with the copper stripped away, raising suspicions that the area might have been used for illegal wire scrapping. Police cordoned off the area and called in Chonburi Forensic Police Division 2 to assist with the investigation. A cassava farm owner, who first discovered the body, has been taken in for questioning at Huai Yai Police Station as part of the inquiry. The deceased was identified as Miss Suthida Sang-asa, 30, a factory worker at a local company. Her pink Honda Scoopy-i motorcycle, registered in Nakhon Ratchasima, was found lying on its side, damaged. Witnesses stated that she was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, but the impact shattered it completely, leaving her with serious and fatal head injuries. The lorry driver, Mr. Jirapath Somboon, 31, was behind the wheel of a white Isuzu 10-wheeler, registered in Chachoengsao. The property’s owner reported that a large sum of 10 million baht in cash had gone missing during the incident. Police have since been examining the case, with Police Colonel Phisut Chantrasuwan, Head of Rattanathibet Police Station, overseeing the investigation. On March 3, he held a meeting with the police investigation team and forensic experts to review the evidence and progress. While it has yet to be definitively determined whether the fire was arson or an accident, authorities expect results from forensic testing by March 4. The police also confirmed that an initial investigation revealed no traces of the missing 10 million baht in the burned house. At the crash site, a red Honda Wave motorcycle was found, with debris scattered across the road. Around 200 metres away, officers located a white six-wheeled Hino lorry with minor damage to its side. Rescue workers discovered three severely injured victims: • Mr. Warathip Saenear (31) suffered a deep head wound exposing the skull. • Min (4) was semi-conscious, with a broken right arm and multiple abrasions. • May (2) had abrasions and was crying uncontrollably. All three were rushed to Phatthamakun Hospital for emergency treatment. Miss Mone Khampaseuth (30), a Lao national and the children’s mother, was found dead at the scene. She was eight months pregnant, and the impact of the crash had torn the unborn from her body, ending about a metre away from her body. Witnesses were left in shock at the horrific sight. The lorry driver, Mr. Sonthana Sanguanrat (62), remained at the scene, visibly shaken. He admitted to police that he was returning to a factory after making a delivery in Chonburi when he suddenly lost consciousness. The lorry veered into the motorcycle, carrying the family of four, and ran over the pregnant woman. Eyewitness accounts corroborated this, stating that the family was riding normally when the lorry driver unexpectedly swerved into them, causing them to lose control. The residence was a single-storey concrete house, and upon entering the bedroom, authorities discovered the body of Ms. Jutaporn, aged 49, lying lifeless on her bed without a blanket. Two charcoal stoves were found at the scene, with burnt coals still emitting faint heat. Nearby, investigators found charcoal, a knife, and Scotch tape, which had been used to seal the door to prevent smoke from escaping. In addition, a letter was found that read: “I’m sorry, sister. I’m sorry for what I’ve done. You’ve helped me so much already, but I’m so tired and can’t go on anymore. Goodbye.” Further inquiry revealed that Ms. Jutaporn, who lived alone. She was the youngest sister and was looked after by her older sister and relatives who lived nearby. Last year, she had attempted to take her life in the same manner, but was saved by her niece. Since then, she had been struggling with depression and was briefly treated at Phatthalung Hospital, although she stopped attending appointments after feeling better. On the night of the incident, she had been conversing with relatives as usual, but in the morning, they became concerned when she did not open her stall at the Mae Khri market. They later found her deceased at her home.
