Picture captured from CCTV. A 71-year-old woman has been arrested on 18 April, for stealing a bag from a Chinese tourist while she was shopping at a popular shopping mall in central Bangkok. Police Major General Siam Boonsom, Commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, along with Deputy Commander Police Major General Nopasin Poolsawat, and Police Colonel Sirichat Janpromma, Superintendent of Pathumwan Police Station, had ordered the arrest of Ms. Weena, also known as “Wee”, aged 71.Ms. Weena was arrested at approximately 18:05, on Rama IV Road near Soi 47 in the Thung Maha Mek area of Sathorn District. The suspect was apprehended with several items in her possession, including ten Chinese banknotes (six 20-yuan and four 5-yuan notes), a credit card from a Chinese bank, and a pink Louis Vuitton bag. These items were found in her possession during a search of her home. Also found was a blue cloth bag, which contained the clothes she had worn during the theft. The incident had began on 16 April at 16:35, when a 28-year-old female tourist from China filed a complaint with Pathumwan Police Station. She reported that while shopping earlier, on the first floor of CentralWorld shopping centre, someone had stolen her bag, which she had placed on the counter as she answered a phone call. The bag contained approximately 20,000 baht in Thai currency, 800 yuan in Chinese currency, and a Chinese bank credit card. Police investigators reviewed CCTV footage from the scene and surrounding areas, identifying a woman matching the description given by the victim: Thai, plump build, approximately 70–75 years old, wearing pink spectacles, a green and white shirt, and green trousers with gold chain patterns. The suspect was later identified and spotted near Rama IV Road, leading to her arrest and search of her home. The search recovered the stolen items, including the foreign currency and credit card. Ms. Weena confessed to the theft, claiming it was a spontaneous act driven by impulse and desire. She has been charged with theft and was handed over to investigators, along with the evidence, for further legal proceedings. -- 2025-04-19

Picture from responders. A road crash occurred on the morning of 18 April, in Rayong province when a ten-wheeled truck reportedly suffered brake failure and crashed with a white Isuzu songthaew, injuring nine people. The incident took place at approximately 09:00, at the Tamnan Pa intersection on Sukhumvit Road in the Pae Subdistrict of Mueang Rayong District. Upon arrival, police from Pae Police Station discovered both vehicles damaged, the ten-wheeler had sustained damage to its side, while the front of the songthaew was damaged from the force of the collision. Rescue personnel and paramedics were quickly on the scene, administering first aid to the nine injured individuals, eight passengers and the driver of the songthaew, before transporting them to Rayong Hospital. According to Mr. Tiwa, 61, the songthaew driver, he was travelling the regular Kleng Pier–Rayong route with eight passengers onboard. As he approached the intersection, the ten-wheeler suddenly surged out from the side road at speed, leaving him no time to brake. The collision caused his vehicle to a sudden halt, throwing passengers around the rear compartment. “Luckily, there was no vehicle directly behind us. It could have been much worse,” he said. The truck driver, who was unharmed, told police that his brakes had malfunctioned despite having recently undergone repairs. He claimed he was unable to stop in time as the vehicle sped forward uncontrollably into the intersection. CCTV footage from the area confirmed the truck’s abrupt and unbraked entry into the intersection. Police have collected the footage as evidence and took the truck driver into custody for further questioning. Legal proceedings are expected to follow as the investigation continues. -- 2025-04-19

Picture from responders. A fire tore through an upholstery shop in a residential area of Roi Et Province during the afternoon of 18 April, rapidly spreading to a neighbouring home and causing damage estimated in the millions of baht. The blaze broke out at approximately 16:40 at an upholstery shop, known locally as Sri Thewa Upholstery, located on Soi 4 of Sri Thewa Road in Nai Mueang Subdistrict. Police from Mueang Roi Et Station quickly responded to the emergency and coordinated with municipal fire services and rescue teams to tackle the inferno. Upon arrival, firefighters found the single-storey, five-unit shop engulfed in flames. The intense fire destroyed at least ten industrial sewing machines and two motorbikes inside the building. A car parked outside the shop began to catch fire at the front, but was pushed to safety by quick-acting responders, but still resulting in burn and heat damage. Fanned by strong winds, the flames spread to an adjacent two-storey house, compounding the damage. Firefighters battled the blaze for over an hour and half before managing to bring it under control. Initial estimates suggest damages running into several million baht. Investigators from the forensic department were called in to determine the exact cause of the fire. Authorities praised the swift coordination between police, municipal disaster response teams, and volunteers, which prevented further destruction and potential casualties. -- 2025-04-19

Picture courtesy of Khaosod. After over a decade on the run, Thai police have arrested a notorious contract killer known as “Bang Ae”, wanted for the cold-blooded ambush and murder of a married couple in 2014. The arrest took place in a mountainous area of Trang province, where the suspect had been living in seclusion and working as a rubber tapper. The dramatic capture occurred on the night of 17 April, when a heavily armed police unit ascended into the hills of Moo 5, Lipang Subdistrict, Palian District, and apprehended Ismaae 47, also known as “Bang Ae”. He had been the subject of an arrest warrant issued by Trang Provincial Court in June 2015 on multiple charges, including murder and illegal possession of military-grade firearms. A reward of 100,000 baht had been offered by the Royal Thai Police for information leading to his arrest. The murders date back to 2 May 2014, when Bang Ae allegedly used an AK-47 assault rifle to fire over 12 rounds into a Toyota Corolla on Maharaj Road, Yan Ta Khao District, Trang. The car crashed into an electricity pole, riddled with bullet holes. Mr Weerapol, 26, who was driving, died at the scene from gunshot wounds to his shoulders, chest, and head. His wife, Ms Nitinan, 23, was seriously wounded and died shortly afterwards in hospital. Police found methamphetamine and spent shell casings at the scene. Investigators later uncovered a dark web of motives: drug trafficking debts and a love triangle. Mr Weerapol had allegedly owed over 100,000 baht to Bang Ae for both drug deals and a loan to buy the vehicle. Furthermore, the suspect was reportedly having an affair with Ms Nitinan, which led him to fear retribution from her husband. Authorities tracked the fugitive to a remote rubber plantation in Trang’s rugged mountains. After hiking 2km on foot, officers found the suspect shirtless and cutting wood. Initially, he denied his identity, claiming to be “Mr Witthawat”. However, when asked to name his parents, he hesitated and eventually gave a nervous smile. Upon being shown comparison photographs, he admitted his true identity. Bang Ae had evaded capture for 11 years, having returned to the area under the radar. His face was featured in the national police’s most-wanted list in 2018, listed as number 93. Pol. Lt. Gen. Piyawat Chaloemsi, Commissioner of Provincial Police Region 9, led the operation along with local and regional police task forces, targeting influential criminals and hired gunmen. Authorities described Bang Ae as a “high-value target” due to the severity of his crimes and the length of his evasion. Following his arrest, Bang Ae denied all charges, but has been remanded to Yan Ta Khao Police Station for formal legal proceedings. Police vowed to continue their crackdown on fugitives and contract killers, calling the arrest a major success in restoring public trust and justice after more than a decade of waiting. -- 2025-04-19

Picture from responders. A road crash claimed the life of a young barista on morning of 18 April,as he was en route to work in Nakhon Ratchasima. The incident occurred at approximately 10:50, on Mittraphap Road, near the entrance to the Terdthai Market in Suranaree Subdistrict, Mueang District. Police Lieutenant Anon Sajantuek, an investigator from Pho Klang Police Station, responded to the scene located between kilometre markers 138–139 on Highway 2. There, authorities discovered a severely injured man lying in the road alongside a damaged Honda Wave 125i motorcycle, registration number from Nakhon Ratchasima. The deceased was identified as Mr. Kittiphan “Men” Chanthahan, aged 28. He had sustained multiple injuries to his torso, believed to have resulted from being run over by a trailer truck following an initial collision. About 10 metres from the body, police found a white Isuzu box truck with Bangkok registration, parked on the shoulder. Its right-hand side mirror and front were damaged. Around 30 metres further down the road, a white Isuzu lorry with Samut Prakan registrations was also pulled over. According to the box truck driver, he had just finished making deliveries in town and was returning to his home in Sikhiu District via the frontage road. As he merged back into the main traffic lane, a motorcycle clipped his right-hand mirror and fell. The lorry travelling behind was unable to stop or swerve in time, running over the motorcyclist. Later that day, the owner of “YY Cup G Bar’fe”, a coffee shop located beside the Huai Banyan Reservoir in Suranaree Subdistrict, arrived at the scene after learning of the crash through social media. She confirmed that Mr. Kittiphan was employed as a barista at her shop, which had just reopened that morning following the Songkran holidays. She noted it was unusual for him to be late for work, and she had become concerned prior to hearing the devastating news. -- 2025-04-19

Lao Vendor Faces Legal Action After Livestream Tirade Against Thais Goes Viral Picture courtesy of Khoasod. Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A Lao woman selling street food in Kamphaeng Phet has come under fire after a video clip of her insulting Thai people went viral on social media. The woman, identified as 38-year-old Mrs Nuch, was swiftly visited by Thai immigration officers and employment authorities following the backlash. The controversy began when a video surfaced of Mrs Nuch, who runs a grilled sausage stall near Phran Kratai Hospital, angrily criticising Thais during a TikTok livestream. In the video, she declared that she had built her own business and had never begged for money, stating, “Thailand is not pure, it produces beggars.” The clip quickly drew outrage from netizens across Thailand. Facing mounting criticism, she later deleted the video. Officials from the Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Employment Office, in coordination with Immigration Police, launched an investigation and located Mrs Nuch at her stall. During questioning, she admitted to being the woman in the clip. She explained that she had entered Thailand from Laos and is married to a Thai man. After initially working in Si Sa Ket, she moved to Kamphaeng Phet, where her husband now works for a private company. She began selling sausages to earn extra income to support their child. Regarding the viral video, Mrs Nuch said she had been watching a fellow Lao citizen’s livestream on TikTok when a Thai viewer commented, calling Lao people “cowards”. She noted that the word “coward” is highly offensive in Lao culture, and it caused her to lose her temper and respond emotionally during her own livestream. Mrs Nuch acknowledged that her words were harsh and expressed regret over her comment branding Thais as beggars. She explained her intention was not to insult the entire country, but rather to highlight the hypocrisy of criticising Lao people while Thailand itself still faces social issues such as poverty. She offered a public apology, saying she had lived in Thailand since the age of 15 and deeply appreciated the opportunities the country had given her. Authorities have since charged Mrs Nuch with working outside the scope of her legal employment status as a foreign national. She has been handed over to investigators at Phran Kratai Police Station for further legal proceedings. -- 2025-04-19

Picture courtesy of Workpoint A mysterious incident in Phrae province unfolded late evening on 17 April, when a motorbike was found crashed in a dry irrigation canal, with no rider in sight, but a stash of methamphetamine pills discovered at the scene. At around 20:00, Pol. Lt. Col. Somkiat Kobkam, Deputy Investigation Inspector at Sung Men Police Station, received a report of a motorcycle crash on the road connecting Sung Men Hospital to Ban Ton via Phra Luang. The crash occurred near a railway construction site in Moo 5, Phra Luang Subdistrict, Sung Men District. Rescue workers and local police officers from the Phra Luang checkpoint, part of a Songkran road safety operation, were quickly dispatched to the scene. They discovered a white Kawasaki Ninja motorbike lying overturned in the dry canal. Although there were traces of blood, no person was found nearby. A shoulder bag was discovered close to the motorbike. Upon inspection, officers found a national ID card and two blue plastic sachets containing approximately methamphetamine pills. Both the motorbike and the drugs were seized as evidence. Authorities believe the rider, likely injured in the crash, fled the scene under the cover of darkness to avoid arrest. Local witnesses reported seeing a young man climbing out of the canal and walking away hurriedly. Police suspect the individual involved was using the Songkran festival period as an opportunity to traffic drugs. Investigators are now working to identify and locate the suspect, believed to be the owner of the ID card found in the bag. -- 2025-04-19

UPDATE Duo Caught in Bangkok After Chaotic Temple Shooting Picture courtesy of Khoasod. Two men have been arrested in a dramatic police operation in central Bangkok, following a brazen shooting at a religious festival in Nakhon Sawan province that left three bystanders injured. The suspects, identified as Mr Sakda, 29, known by the alias “Men”, and Mr Phuthondit, 41, alias “Golf”, were apprehended on the morning of 17 April at a condominium in Huamark. The condo was rented by Golf’s wife, who had reportedly been sheltering the men. The pair stand accused of attempted murder after they allegedly opened fire into a crowded Songkran celebration at Wat Krok Phra Nuea in Krok Phra district. CCTV footage captured the suspects arriving on a motorcycle, firing into the crowd gathered near a music stage, and then fleeing the scene on foot before being picked up by an accomplice, identified as “Mr Singh”, in a pickup truck. According to police, Mr Singh and several associates are believed to have played a role in facilitating the escape and may face charges for aiding the fugitives. Surveillance footage shows Singh’s truck positioned near a canal bridge approximately 200 metres from the rear of the temple, where the suspects fled after the shooting. Police escorted Men and Golf back to Krok Phra Police Station where they were questioned. Officers reported that both men appeared stoic, showing no signs of remorse. During interrogation, Golf claimed the shooting was provoked after a rival group, with whom they had past animosity, allegedly threw a bottle at them during the festival. After being expelled from the temple grounds, they regrouped at the bridge and returned on a motorbike armed with a shotgun that had been stashed in Singh’s vehicle. Golf admitted to being heavily intoxicated at the time. During the transfer of the suspects back to the police station, tensions flared as relatives of the injured victims clashed verbally with the suspects’ family members. A physical altercation was narrowly avoided thanks to swift intervention by patrol officers. Both Men and Golf face charges of attempted murder and additional offences under Thailand’s firearms laws, including possession and discharge of a firearm in a public area. Police say investigations are ongoing, and all parties involved, including Mr Singh and his associates, will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. In the wake of the violence, temple authorities cancelled all remaining Songkran festivities and the annual novice ordination ceremony. Only the essential Buddhist rituals will continue. Mr Wallop Julsri, a representative of Wat Krok Phra Nuea, expressed deep regret over the incident and confirmed the temple committee will seek 300,000 baht in damages. Formal proceedings are expected once the police complete the initial criminal investigations. -- 2025-04-19

The young man was initially struck by an unidentified vehicle before being fatally run over by a car that followed shortly after. Police were alerted to the scene around 03:30 on Phahonyothin 86 Road, inbound towards Saphan Mai. Pol. Lt. Wimon Sombun, investigator with Khu Khot Police Station, arrived at the scene accompanied by emergency medical staff and Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers. The victim, identified as Mr Suddan, was found lying face-up in front of the Farm Chokchai company premises. He had suffered catastrophic head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Personal items including cash, a wristwatch, and documents were discovered nearby. Roughly 100 metres away, authorities found a damaged motorcycle registered in Bangkok. Also at the scene was a Honda sedan, its hazard lights flashing and its front bumper nearly detached. The driver, Mr Ek 37, told police he was unaware he had run over a person. “I was driving behind another car. I saw something lying on the road but didn’t realise it was a body. I only noticed a fallen motorcycle, so I pulled over. I didn’t witness the initial incident,” said Mr Ek, who works as a Bolt ride-hailing driver and was en route to pick up a passenger in Khlong 1, heading to Wongwian Yai. Ms Piyanuch 26, who was travelling with a different Bolt driver, that had the first collision, said she heard a loud impact during the journey and asked the driver what had happened. “He said he hit a person, then stopped the car. A second car hit the man again. I couldn’t just leave. I saw the rider had died, and the driver I was with fled the scene, even though I had already paid the fare.” A security guard stationed outside a nearby building, Mr Salaphon 30, reported hearing the initial crash. “I turned to look and saw a sedan hit something in the road.” Pol. Lt. Wimon confirmed an investigation is underway. Officers have collected photographic evidence at the scene and questioned the Honda driver further at Khu Khot Police Station. The victim’s body has been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police investigations are ongoing, as they work to locate the first Bolt driver and notify the deceased’s relatives so funeral arrangements can be made. -- 2025-04-19

Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A senior monk in the historic province of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya is facing possible dismissal following a bizarre incident in which over 1,000 rotten eggs were allegedly dumped near a resident’s home amid an ongoing dispute. The incident, which took place in the Pratu Chai subdistrict, has drawn widespread attention after local residents accused Phra Athikan Sucharoen, the abbot, of deliberately discarding the rotting eggs next to a private home. The alleged motive stems from a long-standing conflict over a garage structure built by the homeowner, which reportedly extended beyond the property line into temple grounds. Officials from multiple agencies, including Phra Wachirophas, the district ecclesiastical head and abbot of Wat Sala Pun Worawihan; Ms. Sukanya Baonerd, Director of Fine Arts Office 3 Ayutthaya; and Ms. Sukanya Iamsittipornkul, Acting Director of the Department of Public Health, arrived at the site alongside officials from the Treasury Department to investigate the matter. According to neighbours, the foul-smelling remains of the eggs appeared shortly after the dispute intensified. Witnesses claim the eggs were intentionally discarded by Phra Athikan Sucharoen as a form of retaliation against the homeowner. When approached by officials, Phra Athikan Sucharoen reportedly responded with hostility, verbally confronting Phra Wachirophas and accusing him of accepting bribes from local residents to side against the temple. The altercation quickly drew attention, prompting officials to intervene and de-escalate tensions. Following the confrontation, the homeowner agreed to dismantle the portion of the garage that encroached on temple land. However, the incident has left a sour impression among locals, many of whom have expressed frustration with what they describe as longstanding issues involving the abbot’s behaviour. “The actions of Phra Athikan Sucharoen have repeatedly caused problems within the community,” said Phra Wachirophas. “We will be reviewing this matter seriously, and disciplinary measures , including his possible removal as abbot, are under consideration. The case will also be forwarded to the provincial monastic council for further review.” -- 2025-04-19
