Picture from responders A 16-year-old female student was injured after being struck by a speeding motorcycle while crossing a zebra crossing in Samut Prakan. The incident occurred at the entrance of Soi Thetsaban Bang Pu 22 (Suksanti) in Mueang district on the evening of 19 February. At approximately 17:00, the Samut Prakan emergency response centre received a report of a collision involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian. Rescue personnel from the Samut Prakan Municipality were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the injured student, referred to only as Ms A, lying on the road. She was conscious and able to respond to questions but had sustained abrasions and pain throughout her body. After receiving first aid at the scene, she was transported to hospital for further treatment. Nearby, a blue-and-black Honda Sonic motorcycle, registered in Samut Prakan, was found stationary. The rider, who was present at the scene, claimed he was returning home from work and had not been drinking. According to a friend of the injured student, the group had just finished school and were crossing the road on the designated pedestrian crossing. All other vehicles had stopped to allow them to pass, but as they were about to reach the other side, the motorcycle sped through and struck the victim. A local resident who witnessed the accident stated that the motorcycle had been travelling at high speed. “Other vehicles had already slowed down to stop and the girl started crossing when she saw there were no cars moving. But the motorcycle came quickly and hit her,” they explained. A delivery rider, who also witnessed the incident, added that the motorcycle had approached at speed, before hitting the student. “There were three students crossing together. Two managed to reach the other side, but one hesitated when she saw the motorcycle coming. The rider didn’t brake at all and hit her full force, causing her to be thrown into the air. When he got off his bike, he simply said he hadn’t seen her and even complained that he was frustrated,” the witness recounted. The crash highlights ongoing concerns over road safety and driver awareness at pedestrian crossings. Local authorities are expected to investigate the incident further. -- 2025-02-21

Picture of arrest. In a coordinated operation, authorities from the Second Region Police and Chonburi Public Health Department have arrested a 22-year-old woman, Patcharin, who was illegally operating as an orthodontist from her residence. At approximately 10:10 on 19 February, Police Major General Thirachai Chamnarmor, along with health officials and consumer protection officers, conducted the raid at a property located in Soi Banglamung 25/8, Banglamung district. The operation resulted in the seizure of orthodontic supplies, including orthodontic rubber bands, metal wires, braces, dental cleaning machines, mouthwash, and various other dental products, totalling 37 items valued at over 120,000 baht. The authorities initiated the investigation following reports from consumers about a woman offering illegal orthodontic services, including cosmetic braces and dental prosthetics, advertised through Facebook. Undercover agents posed as customers, arranging an appointment for cosmetic orthodontic work and transferring a 100-baht deposit before entering the premises for the service, leading to the arrest. During questioning, Patcharin revealed that she had been providing these services for over a year, primarily advertising on Facebook groups related to Pattaya. She claimed to have no formal dental training and learned the trade from someone who sold dental equipment. She offered services both at her residence and at clients’ locations, with promotional rates ranging from 1,000 to 1,500 baht. Her monthly income from this illegal operation was estimated at 20,000 to 30,000 baht. Patcharin faces multiple charges, including: 1. Practising dentistry without proper registration as per the Dental Profession Act B.E. 2537, Section 28. 2. Violating the order of the Consumer Protection Committee prohibiting the sale of cosmetic orthodontic equipment, issued on 30 January 2018. 3. Operating a medical facility without authorisation, according to the Medical Facility Act B.E. 2541, Section 16. 4. Conducting medical facility operations without permission, as stated in the Medical Facility Act B.E. 2541, Section 24. She was subsequently handed over to the Banglamung Police Station for legal proceedings. -- 2025-02-21

Picture from responders. A 54-year-old man has been arrested for the brutal killing of a 54-year-old woman following a heated argument that escalated late on 19 February. The incident occurred at a hut in a rubber plantation behind the victim’s home in Nong Khana, Phu Krasang district. Police received reports of the murder at around 22:30 and arrived at the scene to find the victim, identified as Ratri, lying in a pool of blood. Initial investigations revealed that the perpetrator, identified as Nipon, had struck Ratri with an axe after being insulted by her. Witnesses at the scene described how villagers were preparing for a gathering following the incident, when blood was found on the ground near the hut, alongside two pairs of shoes, one belonging to the victim and the other to Nipon. Banjong, the husband of the deceased, recounted that he had been away attending a relative’s funeral when he received the devastating news from the village chief. He stated that he had known Nipon for many years and believed the motive for the attack was a quarrel fueled by alcohol. “I never thought he would be capable of such brutality,” Banjong remarked, vowing not to forgive Nipon for the crime. Nipon later explained to police that he had killed Ratri in a fit of rage after she repeatedly insulted him, calling him “pathetic.” He claimed he was drunk at the time and had endured months of derogatory remarks from the victim. Nipon acknowledged that he frequently mingled with Ratri’s family, stating that she would often give him money and food. Police Major Narong Piyapan confirmed that upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a significant head wound on the victim, measuring approximately 20 centimeters long, caused by the axe, which was found at the scene bearing traces of blood. There were signs of a struggle, along with an unfinished bottle of rice whiskey present. Subsequent tests revealed that Nipon had consumed drugs, as indicated by the colour of his urine test. He has been charged with murder and drug use. Nipon is set to appear in court in Kantharalak on 21 February for further legal proceedings. -- 2025-02-21

Picture from responders. A staff shuttle van crashed into the rear of a 10-wheeler lorry in Lopburi, leaving the driver dead at the scene and seven passengers injured. Authorities suspect the crash was caused by the van driver falling asleep at the wheel, as no skid marks were found at the site. The accident occurred on Highway 21 (Saraburi-Lom Sak) at kilometre marker 36/900 in Khok Salung Subdistrict, Phatthana Nikhom District, during the morning of 20 February. Police Lieutenant Kongsak Mukdamuang, an investigator from Khok Salung Police Station, received the report and immediately coordinated with emergency responders from Phatthana Nikhom Hospital and Ruamkatanyu Foundation. Upon arrival, rescue teams found a white Toyota van with severe front-end damage. The driver, identified as Mr Anupong, was killed on impact, his body trapped in the wreckage. Seven employees, both male and female, were injured, with some in critical condition, and were heard crying for help. Rescue personnel provided first aid before transporting the injured to hospital. Approximately 300 metres from the crash site, an Isuzu 10-wheeler lorry with a damaged rear was found parked on the roadside, its number plate having fallen off due to the impact. Preliminary investigations indicate that the lorry had been travelling in the left lane while the van, carrying employees to their morning shift, slammed into its rear. Picture courtesy of SiamChon. A man from Kanchanaburi was arrested in the early hours of 20 February, after brandishing a firearm in a cocktail bar following a heated dispute with his ex-wife and a waiter. At approximately 02:05, Lieutenant Police Sub-Inspector Sonthaya Khonsap of Pattaya City Police Station received a report of an individual carrying a firearm inside Oasis Cocktail Lounge, in LK Metro, off Soi Buakhao, Pattaya, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, police found a distressed 28-year-old woman, identified as Ms Wi, in tears and visibly shaken. Nearby, a 40-year-old waiter, known as Mr A, was waiting to provide a statement. The suspect, later identified only as 33-year-old Mr H had been restrained by the nightclub’s security personnel. Officers seized a .38-calibre revolver loaded with five rounds, along with a Japanese style short blade knife. According to Ms Wi, the suspect was her former husband, from whom she had separated late last year. On the night of the incident, Mr H had been drinking at the venue when he mistakenly assumed that the waiter was his ex-wife’s new partner. Enraged, he allegedly began harassing and taunting them before physically attacking the waiter. When security intervened, the suspect reportedly drew his firearm, causing panic among patrons. During questioning, Mr H admitted that the gun was his but claimed he had no intention of harming anyone. He alleged that security staff had forcibly restrained him, prompting him to draw the weapon. He also stated that he attacked the waiter after seeing him “arch his back provocatively” towards his ex-wife, which he found intolerable. Lieutenant Khonsap confirmed that Mr H had been taken into custody along with the confiscated firearm and ammunition. He has been charged and is now facing legal proceedings. -- 2025-02-20

Police Raid Cannabis Operation in Don Mueang Market, Three Foreigners Arrested In a planned operation, police raided a cannabis cultivation and processing site located in a well-known cosmetics market in Don Mueang, resulting in the arrest of three individuals overseeing the illegal operation, including two Vietnamese nationals and a Swedish national. Picture from raid. In a planned operation, police raided a cannabis cultivation and processing site located in a well-known cosmetics market in Don Mueang, resulting in the arrest of three individuals overseeing the illegal operation, including two Vietnamese nationals and a Swedish national. At approximately 14:00 on 19 February, Police Colonel Sukrit Mangklasawat, the head of Don Mueang Police Station, instructed his team, led by Deputy Superintendent Amnat Chamchaem, to execute a search warrant issued by the Criminal Court. The search targeted a four-storey commercial building at 199/148 Soi Cherdwuthakart 9 in the Don Mueang district, following complaints about the strong smell of cannabis coming from the premises. The building, situated within a bustling cosmetics market, raised suspicions when officers observed that the front door of the unit was locked. After attempts to call for someone inside yielded no response, police gained entry through the back and apprehended two Vietnamese men and one Asian man of Swedish nationality on the fourth floor. Upon investigation, officers discovered four large suitcases on the first floor filled with dried cannabis buds. The mezzanine level served as a storage area for cannabis packed in bags, while the second floor contained vacuum-sealing equipment and digital scales for processing the product. Large quantities of dried cannabis were stored in zip-lock bags, some already vacuum-packed. The third and fourth floors had been modified for cannabis cultivation, equipped with hydroponic systems and artificial lighting; however, no live cannabis plants were found during the search. By 16:00 senior police officials, including Deputy Commissioner Nopasit Poonksawad and several others, arrived at the scene to assess the operation. Deputy Commissioner Nopasit stated that the Metropolitan Police Bureau had intensified its efforts to investigate suspected illegal activities and the presence of foreign nationals unlawfully working in the area. He indicated that the building was likely rented as a site for storing and cultivating cannabis. Deputy Commissioner Chotiwat Leuangwilai emphasised that selling cannabis necessitates approval from multiple authorities, including public health and law enforcement agencies, to assess individual cases for compliance. Without the proper permits, any cultivation or sales of cannabis would constitute a legal violation. During the interrogation, the individuals overseeing the cannabis operation admitted they were hired to guard the building and the cannabis products, receiving a monthly wage of 15,000 baht. Their responsibilities included packaging the cannabis for distribution. The owner of the building and the employer of the three individuals will also be summoned for questioning. Initial inquiries revealed that the three suspects may have also violated immigration laws, overstaying their visas. They have been transferred to Don Mueang Police Station for further legal action. -- 2025-02-20

Sattahip Woman Holds Cow Hostage Over Banana Crisis In what can only be described as a “moo-ving” situation, 59-year-old Aunt Nong of Sattahip found herself in a sticky situation when a rogue cow decided to turn her backyard banana patch into a personal grazing ground. Full story:https://aseannow.com/topic/1352327-sattahip-woman-holds-cow-hostage-over-banana-crisis/ -
Picture from responders. In what can only be described as a “moo-ving” situation, 59-year-old Aunt Nong of Sattahip found herself in a sticky situation when a rogue cow decided to turn her backyard banana patch into a personal grazing ground. After days of frustration watching her precious plants get chewed up and trampled, Aunt Nong picked up the phone and called the local police, asking for help with the “cow crisis” that had spiralled out of control. “This isn’t just a cow; it’s a disaster!” she exclaimed, clutching the offender, now her reluctant hostage. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Aunt Nong in tears, holding the cow like a disgruntled hostage negotiator. With 15 banana plants now casualties of the bovine buffet, she was determined to get the owner to take responsibility. “I just want 2,000 baht to replace my bananas!” she pleaded. This wasn’t the first time Aunt Nong had encountered this cow. In fact, she had previously overlooked its misdemeanours because the owner was a familiar face in the community. However, after the latest escapade of munching and stomping, she had decided enough was enough. “I can’t just let it trample my livelihood!” she declared, before tying the cow up and calling for backup. Officer Sub-Lt. Apisit Suthi arrived to mediate the situation and reached out to the cow’s owner. Unfortunately, the owner claimed he was unavailable due to his wife’s illness and promised to show up the next day to discuss the damages. “It seems this cow’s owner is more elusive than the cow itself!” Apisit quipped, trying to lighten the mood amidst the chaos. Apisit advised Aunt Nong on legal matters, suggesting she document any future incidents with videos to strengthen her case. “Holding a cow hostage might not be the best strategy,” he chuckled. “You wouldn’t want to end up in hot water for theft!” As tensions eased, Aunt Nong’s cow-captivity plan seemed to be working. With the promise of a meeting on the horizon, both parties were hopeful for a peaceful resolution. Until then, it appears the cow will remain a reluctant houseguest in Aunt Nong’s garden, likely pondering the consequences of its snacking spree. -- 2025-02-20 ,

Stroke Victim Abandoned at Temple: Outrage and Calls for Accountability In a shocking incident that has stirred public outrage, a 54-year-old man named Anan Boonma, an ex-painter who suffered a stroke, was abandoned at Wat Chalerm Phra Kiat Worawihan temple in the Bang Sri Muang district of Nonthaburi. He had been left there overnight on 17 February by officials from a local foundation, who failed to provide proper assistance for his medical condition. Full story:https://aseannow.com/topic/1352324-stroke-victim-abandoned-at-temple-outrage-and-calls-for-accountability/ -
Picture from responders In a shocking incident that has stirred public outrage, a 54-year-old man named Anan Boonma, an ex-painter who suffered a stroke, was abandoned at Wat Chalerm Phra Kiat Worawihan temple in the Bang Sri Muang district of Nonthaburi. He had been left there overnight on 17 February by officials from a local foundation, who failed to provide proper assistance for his medical condition. Anan, who is partially paralyzed and has been battling tuberculosis, spent two night exposed to the elements without any help. Reports indicate that he was left to fend for himself, lying on the ground and suffering from the harsh conditions. The temple’s assistant abbot, Phra Khru Thamthor Somphong Chantiko, expressed his deep disapproval of the actions taken by the officials who abandoned Anan at the temple. He stated, “I know which agency brought him here, but I will not disclose their name. It is unacceptable to leave a stroke patient in this manner at our temple. This should not be the responsibility of the temple.” Phra Khru Somphong emphasised that while temples often serve as places of refuge, they lack the necessary medical equipment and expertise to care for seriously ill individuals. If people want to share food or request a place to stay for a night or two, we are happy to help as much as we can. But to abandon someone and expect the temple to take over their care is simply wrong, Anan’s condition poses a public health risk, particularly given his tuberculosis diagnosis. This could endanger visitors and locals passing by, Phra Khru Somphong noted. If officials cannot take care of individuals in need, what is their purpose? We cannot allow this to continue. The temple has a strict policy against allowing animals to be abandoned there, and the assistant abbot questioned why a human life would be treated any differently. Those responsible must understand the gravity of their actions. It is vital that we approach this with compassion and responsibility. Following the online public outcry, the Nonthaburi Provincial Health Office dispatched an ambulance from Bang Yai Hospital to retrieve Anan and ensure he receives appropriate medical care. Authorities also plan to coordinate with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to find a long-term solution for Anan’s care. The local community, alongside temple officials, expressed relief that Anan would finally receive the help he desperately needs. Phra Khru Somphong concluded, “Let this incident serve as a reminder that we must treat all lives with dignity and compassion. I hope it is the last time someone is abandoned like this at our temple.” As investigations continue, the public awaits accountability from the officials responsible for abandoning Anan, as many call for improved protocols to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. -- 2025-02-20

Picture of arrest Law enforcement has finally apprehended 34-year-old Apichon after a decade-long manhunt for his alleged involvement in the brutal stabbing of a dental officer at a popular nightclub in Chai Nat. The arrest was executed by Police Lieutenant Colonel Phikhane Teereekord, head of the Highway Police Division 3, following multiple outstanding warrants against the suspect. Apichon was taken into custody on the roadside in Khu Khot sub-district, Lam Luk Ka district, Pathum Thani province, on a warrant issued by the Chai Nat Provincial Court. He faces charges of “collaborating in the murder of another, attempting to murder another, and carrying a knife in a public place without justifiable cause.” Additionally, he has an outstanding warrant from the Nonthaburi Provincial Court for “attempted murder, possession of a firearm and ammunition without permission, and carrying a firearm without a license.” The incident dates back to 2014 when Apichon allegedly used a knife to fatally stab 34-year-old Panithi, a dental officer at a local health promotion hospital, during a concert at a well-known nightclub in Chai Nat’s Muang district. Following the attack, Apichon fled the scene and managed to evade capture for years. After the incident, the Chai Nat Police gathered evidence and secured warrants for Apichon’s arrest. At the time of the stabbing, he was also wanted in connection with an attempted murder case in Nonthaburi, further complicating his legal troubles.
