  1. Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A 60-year-old man who had spent decades breeding fighting bulls was fatally gored by one of his own animals in a tragic incident in Nakhon Si Thammarat. The victim, identified as Mr. Yaow, was found lying in a pool of blood at his cattle pen in Tha Sala district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. He suffered multiple wounds to his back after being attacked by a ten-year-old black bull, which had recently been acquired for breeding purposes. Emergency responders rushed him to Tha Sala Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries due to severe blood loss. According to family members, Mr. Yaow had long made a living breeding and selling fighting bulls. The aggressive animal responsible for the attack was recently brought in to mate with female bulls in the herd. It remains unclear whether the victim had entered the pen to feed, wash, or breed the bull when the fatal incident occurred. Preliminary investigations suggest that the bull may have been unsettled by its unfamiliar surroundings or was in a state of heightened aggression due to being in heat. Local police have launched an inquiry to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The victim’s body has been released to his family for funeral rites in accordance with religious traditions. -- 2025-03-11

  3. Picture from responders. A violent attack occurred in the early hours of March 10, when a group of assailants ambushed and shot dead a local security officer, Sergeant Saudi Mahah, 45, in the district of Krong Pinang, Yala. The assailants targeted Sergeant Mahah as he arrived at his residence in the village of Kadudoh, Tambon Sae, at approximately 02:00. According to local authorities, the officer had been out on personal business when he received a call about a fire involving a parked pickup truck outside his home. As he returned to assess the damage, the attackers, hiding near the house, opened fire with a range of weapons, including shotguns, assault rifles (AK-47 and M-16), and a 9mm pistol. The officer was struck multiple times in the body and head, collapsing to the ground and later confirmed dead at the scene. The assailants then stole the officer’s personal 9mm handgun before fleeing the area swiftly, believed to be using their knowledge of the local terrain to escape without leaving a trace. The attack took place outside the officer’s home, where his motorcycle was found nearby, and a Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck was severely damaged by fire. Authorities found several types of spent shell casings around the scene, including from shotguns and military-grade rifles, leading them to suspect the involvement of insurgent groups operating in the region. This ambush follows a series of escalating tensions in southern Thailand, where insurgent activity has been increasing. Authorities believe the attack on Sergeant Mahah is a deliberate move to demonstrate the attackers’ ability to carry out such operations. The investigation continues as police, military personnel, and rescue teams work to gather evidence and pursue the perpetrators. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Panic in Yala! Suspicious Objects Found Tied to Power Poles in Three Locations Picture courtesy of Matichon. 5. Pictures from responders. A fire broke out at a well-known electronics and furniture store in Wang Noi, Ayutthaya, destroying all the stock. Authorities believe an electrical short circuit may have been the cause. Police Colonel Somjet Maenbutr, Superintendent of Wang Noi Police Station, received a report of the fire at Prasertchai Electronics and Furniture store, located in Wang Noi New City Market, Moo 7, Lam Sai Subdistrict, Wang Noi District, Ayutthaya Province. Emergency responders, including firefighters from Lam Ta Sao Municipality and local disaster prevention units, dispatched multiple fire engines to the scene in an effort to control the blaze. The shop, a single-storey steel-framed structure with a metal sheet roof, measured approximately 40 by 20 metres. Inside, a vast stock of electrical appliances and furniture provided ample fuel for the fire, which quickly engulfed the entire building. Thick black smoke billowed into the sky, posing a significant risk to the adjacent residential complex. Firefighters worked urgently to contain the blaze, particularly to prevent it from spreading to a nearby apartment block. It took approximately one hour to bring the fire under control, but by then, the shop had been completely destroyed. The metal roof had collapsed, leaving only a charred structure. Narupon Suwanprapha, an official from Wang Noi District, confirmed that five people were initially trapped inside the dormitory due to the heavy smoke. Emergency crews successfully evacuated them, but two residents suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to Rajthanee Hospital for treatment. Employees working inside the store managed to escape unharmed, as the building had multiple exits with open side access. Initial reports suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit. Investigators are currently questioning store employees and awaiting a forensic examination by Ayutthaya’s police crime scene unit to determine the exact cause. Authorities will conduct a thorough investigation to assess the full extent of the damage. -- 2025-03-11

  13. Picture from responders. A newlywed couple was forced to make a dramatic escape when a fire broke out in a hotel in Ubon Ratchathani, sending thick black smoke billowing from the eighth floor. The fire, which started around 13:00 on 9 March, prompted an emergency response from local firefighters. Police Captain Theerajet Tornnoi of Mueang Ubon Ratchathani Police Station received the report and coordinated with municipal fire crews and rescue teams to contain the blaze. Upon arrival, firefighters found dense black smoke pouring from room 802 on the right side of the building. Crews battled through the smoke to extinguish the flames, bringing the situation under control within 30 minutes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. A hotel guest, identified only as Mr A 25, who had just celebrated his wedding at the hotel the night before, described the terrifying ordeal. “I was taking a shower when I heard what sounded like an electrical short circuit from a nearby room. Suddenly, thick smoke filled the hallway, and I realised there was a fire,” he said. “My wife and I ran out of our room and tried to activate the fire alarm switch, but it didn’t work. We looked for an emergency exit but couldn’t find one. When we pressed the lift button and saw it was still operational, we rushed downstairs to alert the staff, only to be met with indifference, as if nothing had happened. It was incredibly frustrating,” he added. Initial investigations suggest the fire was caused by a short circuit in either an electric kettle or a minibar fridge, which then spread to wooden furniture in the room. Forensic specialists will conduct further inspections to confirm the exact cause. The hotel, a well-known establishment in Ubon Ratchathani, had 38 occupied rooms at the time of the incident. Fortunately, no guests were harmed, but the chaotic evacuation and alleged failure of safety systems have raised serious concerns. -- 2025-03-10

  21. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Deputy Prime Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga has ordered an investigation into a large Chinese-funded factory under construction in Bo Thong district, Chonburi, following public outcry over the lack of environmental consultations. Over 400 local residents from Moo 4, Bo Kwang Thong subdistrict, have signed a petition demanding scrutiny of the 100-rai industrial project, which they fear could pose serious environmental and health risks. Despite previous orders from local authorities to halt construction pending public hearings, the project has continued without proper consultation. Some villagers claim the factory was previously located in Ban Bueng district, where it processed lead-based materials and was associated with significant pollution problems. They worry the relocation to Bo Thong will bring similar issues, particularly as the site is close to a school, temple, and the Phabua Khao watershed, the crucial water sources for agriculture and household use. Further concerns have emerged from residents of Moo 5, where activist Wilaiwan Niramayakul has reported illegal chemical waste dumping by a now-defunct factory that was shut down in 2018. She alleges that Chinese operators have been secretly burying hazardous waste, causing severe water contamination and foul odours, raising alarms about long-term environmental damage. In response to these complaints, Pirapan has assigned Dr Himalai Phiwphan, his adviser, along with Rattaruj Piyaphongphat, an adviser to the House Consumer Protection Committee, and Veerachai Changsarn, from the Anti-Global Warming Network, to visit the affected areas. More than 100 residents from Moo 4 and Moo 5 attended the meeting to provide evidence. Dr Himalai assured villagers that authorities would thoroughly investigate legal compliance and ensure public hearings are conducted. While there has been no official complaint regarding the illegal waste disposal in Moo 5, his team has committed to inspecting the site for potential violations. “Our party will closely monitor this case and push for real solutions. We will fight for every issue and stand by the people in protecting their rights and communities,” Dr Himalai stated. -- 2025-03-10
