Woman Jumps to Her Death from Hospital Building
Georgealbert posted a topic in Central Thailand News
Picture from responders. A 50-year-old woman died after jumping from a hospital parking structure in Chachoengsao, on January 3. Her body landed on the roof of a parked car, shocking staff and bystanders at the scene. The incident occurred at approximately 13:20 at a hospital in Mueang Chachoengsao District. Police officers from Mueang Chachoengsao Police Station were called to the scene and identified the deceased, whose name was not disclosed, lying on her back atop a parked car. Initial investigations suggested she had jumped from the rooftop of the parking structure. Her shoes were found removed and left on the rooftop. A security guard at the hospital recounted hearing a loud noise, initially mistaking it for the sound of a car door slamming. "I ran to check and was stunned to find the woman's body on the car roof," he said. Mr. Somjai, 38, a cleaner working inside the parking structure at the time, described hearing the noise and witnessing the security guard rushing toward the area. "When I looked, I saw the body on the car below. It was a shocking sight," he added. The security guard stationed on the third floor of the parking building mentioned he had not seen the woman pass by his floor. "I didn't notice her at all. I only heard a loud noise, which echoed in the building, and assumed it was a car door. She must have taken the lift to the rooftop," he explained. Police have notified hospital medical examiners to perform an autopsy, and evidence is being collected to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. At a press conference held on January 3, Chatchatha Mosikarat, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, and Chairman of the Subcommittee for Road Safety, highlighted progress in reducing accidents. While most travellers have returned to Bangkok and major economic zones, smoother traffic on main roads has encouraged speeding, a significant factor in road accidents. To address this, provinces were instructed to maintain traffic checkpoints to deter speeding and provide rest areas to prevent fatigue-related incidents. Officials were also directed to inspect the readiness of public transport drivers, freight vehicles, and their safety systems before departure. In addition, high-risk areas such as intersections, construction zones, and deteriorated roads are being equipped with improved lighting, warning signs, and clearer traffic markings to enhance safety. Chatchatha emphasised the need for collaboration from local authorities, stating, “Local administrations are the front line in ensuring public safety. Their dedication significantly reduces accidents, injuries, and fatalities.” He also appealed to motorists to follow road safety rules, including wearing helmets and seat belts, refraining from drinking and driving, and reducing speed in unfamiliar areas. On 2 January, the seventh day of the “Safe Driving, Accident-Free Thailand” campaign, 196 crashes were reported, resulting in 200 injuries and 43 fatalities. The leading causes were speeding (40.31%), reckless overtaking (26.02%), and drunk driving (15.82%). Motorcycles were involved in 86.07% of accidents, with most occurring on straight roads (83.67%) and during daylight hours. Key Figures (27 December 2024 – 2 January 2025): • Total Accidents: 1,938 • Injuries: 1,894 • Fatalities: 321 • Highest Incidents: Surat Thani (72 cases, 20 fatalities). • Zero Fatalities: Six provinces. Efforts will continue to minimise road casualties and promote safe travel across the nation during the holiday period. Pictures from responders and CCTV below. Officers from the Samrong Tai Police Station received a report ar approximately 09.30 on January 2, of an LPG gas cylinder explosion at an unregistered scrap shop in Soi Babutek, or Soi Thetsaban Mueang Pu Chao Saming Phrai Soi 2, Samrong Klang Subdistrict, Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan Province. Firefighters and rescue personnel from the Pu Chao Saming Phrai Municipality responded to the scene. Rescuers found Mr. Win Hiut Oo, a 34-year-old Burmese worker, suffering from burns across his body. He was rushed to Samut Prakan Hospital for treatment. Investigators discovered a damaged LPG cylinder with signs that someone had tried to cut off the valve, inside the shop, along with other items and parts of the premises scorched by the fire. Witness Mr. Wanchai Buaput, 47, said he saw flames rising from behind his house and went to investigate after the fire subsided. He found the injured worker with his clothes completely burned off except for his underwear. He explained that the shop owner had instructed workers to remove the valve bolts with a wrench, but one worker instead used a grinder, leading to the explosion. According to Mr. Santi Kusonsong, a firefighter from Pu Chao Saming Phrai Municipality, the grinder’s sparks ignited gas leaking from the cylinder, while the worker was cutting the valve off, causing the fireball that injured him. The shop owner admitted to buying the LPG cylinders to salvage the scrap metal and said he had warned workers to use proper tools and avoid smoking. However, one worker disregarded these instructions and used a grinder, resulting in the explosion. Initial investigations revealed that the scrap shop was operating without a license. Police documented the scene and summoned the shop owner for further questioning at the Samrong Tai Police Station. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. -- 2025-01-03 ScreenRecording_01-02-2025 18-01-24_1.mp4

Fire Ravages Synthetic Fibre Factory in Samut Prakan, Causing ฿20 Million in Damage A fire broke out at a synthetic fibre factory in Bangpu Industrial Estate, Samut Prakan, early on January 2, causing damage estimated of over ฿20 million. Pictures from responders. A fire broke out at a synthetic fibre factory in Bangpu Industrial Estate, Samut Prakan, early on January 2, causing damage estimated of over ฿20 million. The fire was reported to Bangpu Police Station at around 07:00. Firefighters from Bangpu Municipality and nearby areas responded with muliple fire engines. Upon arrival, they found one of the factory’s warehouses engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Workers from nearby buildings scrambled to evacuate materials, while firefighters battled to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent warehouses. The factory, located in Soi Bangpu 73, produces synthetic fibres used in car interiors. Despite being closed for the New Year holiday, three staff members, including two technicians and a security guard, were on-site. Mr Sak, 60, the security guard, reported that the fire began in the last warehouse before spreading to others. He suspected an electrical short circuit as the cause, as no machinery was in operation. By 10:00 after deploying 32 fire engines and numerous personnel from disaster response and volunteer units, the fire was brought under control. Officials confirmed that two production lines had been destroyed, but there were no injuries or fatalities. Police General Wichit Bun Chinwutikul, Provincial Police Commander of Samut Prakan, and other officials inspected the site. The factory owner, Mr Tara, was visibly distressed, breaking into tears as this was the second fire to strike the factory in recent years. General Wichit stated that the fire had started in the fifth warehouse of the single-storey facility, which spans eight rai of land and consists of five interconnected warehouses. The fire spread to the fourth warehouse before being contained. Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the blaze. Preliminary assessments attribute the fire spread to the synthetic materials stored in the warehouses, which are highly flammable. While the fire produced large plumes of smoke, officials assured that there was no immediate impact on nearby communities, including a hospital, as the smoke dissipated towards the sea. -- 2025-01-03

Picture from responders. A 40-year-old man was found dead on January 2, in his rented room in Phan Thong District, Chonburi, following a suspected heavy drinking session to mark the New Year. The grim discovery was made after the landlord became concerned about his prolonged absence and unusual water usage. Police Lieutenant Boonchuen Sarasuk, an investigator with Phan Thong Police Station, received the report and arrived at the scene along with rescue workers from the Traikuntham Foundation. The property, located in Moo 4, Nong Tamlueng Subdistrict, was a row of single-storey rental rooms. At the scene, officers found empty bottles of herbal liquor and beer scattered outside the room. Inside, they discovered the decomposed body of Mr. Anurak Wangsant, aged 40, lying in the bathroom, with the shower running. It is estimated that he had been dead for approximately three days. Mr. Boonsong, 42, a friend of the deceased, told police that they had last been together in late December, sharing a bottle of herbal liquor. He said he had not seen or heard from Mr. Anurak since and had assumed nothing was wrong until police and the landlord intervened. The landlord explained that he became suspicious after noticing irregular water usage in Mr. Anurak’s room. Multiple attempts to contact the tenant went unanswered. Concerned, he unlocked the door with a spare key and was met with a foul odour. Upon investigation, he found the body in the bathroom. Police have taken Mr. Boonsong in for further questioning as part of their ongoing investigation. The body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. -- 2025-01-03

Picture from responders. An 85-year-old man narrowly escaped losing his lower leg after a modified hand grinder slipped from his grip and struck his shin in Rayong. The incident, which caused significant blood loss, occurred on January 2 at the man's home near Ban Khai District. Rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation were alerted to the scene and found Mr San, the injured man, sitting outside his home with a deep laceration to his left shin, fully exposing the bone. He also sustained injuries to his hand. A pool of blood was visible nearby. Rescuers quickly administered first aid to stop the bleeding, immobilised his leg, and transported him to Ban Khai Hospital for emergency treatment. Mr San explained that he was using a hand grinder, commonly referred to as a "baby grinder" in the area, which he had modified by attaching a circular saw blade to cut wood. While working, the tool slipped from his hand and struck his leg and hand. Struggling to stop the device, he managed to unplug it, preventing further injuries. Mr Jui, 49, a relative of Mr San, said that the use of modified grinders for cutting wood is common in the area, but they are notoriously dangerous. He noted that many incidents involving such tools have been reported, often resulting in serious injuries. A neighbour, Mr Net, 50, was the first to discover Mr San. He said he had been walking over to wish him a Happy New Year when he saw him sitting in a pool of blood. Shocked, he quickly called for emergency assistance. This incident serves as a cautionary tale, highlighting the dangers of using power tools for unintended purposes. Users are urged to exercise caution and adhere strictly to manufacturers' guidelines to avoid potentially life-threatening incidents. -- 2025-01-03
