Picture courtesy of TMN An Australian man, 60-year-old Mr. Ivica Djakovic, filed a police report in Pattaya after a heated road incident escalated into a terrifying altercation. The incident, which occurred late night on December 24, on Pattaya Second Road, Bang Lamung, Chonburi, involved a motorbike taxi driver wielding a cleaver. At 23:45 Mr. Djakovic reported the incident to Police Lieutenant Mana Sak Phonlayiam of Pattaya City Police Station. According to the victim, the suspect, described as a man aged 30-35, was wearing an orange motorbike taxi vest and riding a black Honda Wave 125 with registration number from Chonburi. The confrontation began when Mr. Djakovic’s motorbike and the suspect’s vehicle were involved in a minor collision. The two men argued before Mr. Djakovic fled the scene to avoid further conflict, heading into the alley where the incident escalated. The motorbike taxi driver reportedly followed him, brandishing a cleaver and waving it threateningly while shouting profanities and threatening to attack the foreigner. The aggressive behaviour left Mr. Djakovic in fear for his safety, prompting him to seek police assistance. A witness, 60-year-old Saichon, a friend of the Australian man, confirmed the details, stating that the suspect’s actions caused considerable alarm. Police Lieutenant Mana Sak Phonlayiam summoned both parties to resolve the issue. However, Mr. Djakovic, still shaken by the incident, opted to file an official record of the event as evidence instead of pursuing further discussions. The case remains under review as police determine the appropriate next steps. -- 2024-12-26

Picture from responders A 14-year-old female student suffered serious injuries after falling from a third-floor classroom window during a Christmas celebration at a school in Phraeksa, Muang District, Samut Prakan. The incident occurred at approximately 09:30 on Christmas Day. Emergency services, including municipal rescue teams and medics from Samut Prakan Hospital, were dispatched to the scene following the report. Upon arrival, they found the injured girl, a student from Mathayom 1 year, lying in pain at the base of a four-storey school building. Teachers were already administering first aid before rescue personnel transported her to Samut Prakan Hospital. The student sustained injuries to her legs, hips, and neck and was unable to recall the details of the incident. A teacher from the school stated that the Christmas event had drawn students to the ground floor for various activities, although some remained in classrooms. The teacher speculated that the girl may have been sitting on the edge of a window on the third floor, possibly taking photos, when she lost her balance and fell. One of the girl’s classmates recounted witnessing her sitting on the window ledge shortly before the fall. However, the exact circumstances remain unclear, and the school plans to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. The injured student is currently receiving medical treatment, and her condition is being closely monitored. -- 2024-12-26

Picture courtesy of Matichon A foreign couple’s drunken antics caused a commotion at a beachfront hotel in Pattaya in the early hours of December 25th. The woman, heavily intoxicated, was eventually detained after resisting hotel staff and attempting to flee the scene. The incident occurred around 03:00 near Soi 7, on Beach Road in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. Hotel staff reported that the couple had been behaving inappropriately on a sofa in the hotel lobby, an area decorated with a Christmas tree for guests to take photos. During their antics, they accidentally knocked over a round glass table, causing it to shatter. When hotel staff intervened and asked the pair to meet with authorities, the man disappeared while the woman, visibly intoxicated, began shouting and refused to cooperate. She attempted to walk away from the premises, leading to a chaotic pursuit. Eyewitnesses described the woman as erratic, walking into the road and narrowly avoiding being hit by passing vehicles. Despite efforts by hotel staff and a concerned bystander to calm her, she continued to resist. Eventually, hotel staff managed to escort her back to the premises and handed her over to the police. Officers from the Pattaya City Police Station confirmed that the woman was too intoxicated to provide a statement. She remains in custody to sober up. Hotel staff were advised to file an official report documenting the damages, which included the broken glass table. Authorities stated that once the woman regains sobriety, she will be required to compensate the hotel for the damages caused during the incident. -- 2024-12-25

Police from Ban Na Wang patrol unit, under Bang Lamung Police Station, received a report during the morning of December 24, of a fire at 19/13, Ban Sang Krapriew, Moo 1, near the Mak Mai housing estate in Takhian Tia subdistrict. Officers coordinated with local municipal disaster prevention and mitigation teams, as well as emergency rescue units and fire trucks, to respond to the blaze. However, by the time the blaze was under control, significant damage had already been done. Picture from responders A heartwarming act unfolded at a local chicken rice restaurant in Phuket on December 24, when a vendor saved the life of an Italian tourist who suddenly collapsed while dining. The quick-thinking restaurant owner, who had CPR training, performed life-saving measures that ensured the tourist’s survival. The incident occurred at “Ko Ta Chicken Rice” in Soi Surin, Phuket Town. According to eyewitnesses, the tourist was dining with a companion when he suddenly lost consciousness. Staff immediately called for emergency services while frantically seeking help. Lieutenant Somkiat Jiramonrat, the owner of the restaurant, was alerted by his wife and rushed to the man. “When I arrived, I saw the man unconscious. I tried shaking and patting him, but he didn’t respond. I decided to lay him flat on the floor and began performing CPR, just as I had been trained to do,” he explained. For 15 tense minutes, Somkiat continued chest compressions while waiting for emergency responders. Fortunately, a woman who identified herself as a nurse also stepped in to assist. Moments later, rescue personnel from the Kusoltham Phuket Foundation arrived, followed by an emergency medical team from Vachira Phuket Hospital. The tourist was stabilized on-site and transferred to the hospital for further treatment. Somkiat recalled that the man’s companion returned to the restaurant later that day in tears of gratitude. “They thanked me deeply. I wasn’t expecting anything, I just acted on instinct to help save a life. It brings me immense pride to know that I could assist someone in need,” he said. He added, “Tourists come to our country for enjoyment and adventure. The last thing we want is for them to face tragedy. I hope this serves as an example for others to help one another when needed and to treat visitors with kindness and care.” The incident has drawn widespread praise on social media, with many lauding Somkiat as a true hero. Netizens have also emphasized the importance of learning CPR, as it can make the difference between life and death in critical situations. The Italian tourist, now in stable condition, is expected to make a full recovery thanks to the swift intervention of Somkiat and others. -- 2024-12-25

Picture and video from responders. A forest fire near a recycling shop in Nong Pla Lai Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi, escalated into chaos as flames spread to a pile of waste materials, requiring multiple fire trucks and numerous firefighters to bring it under control. The incident occurred around noon on December 24, prompting a rapid response from local disaster relief teams, including those from the Nong Pla Lai and Takhian Tia municipalities and Pattaya’s land disaster prevention unit. Rescue personnel from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation also assisted with specialised equipment, while police from the Bang Lamung Police Station coordinated at the scene. The fire originated behind the recycling shop, which spans approximately eight rai of land. The flames quickly engulfed a large pile of discarded plastic bottles and other waste materials. Access to the source of the fire proved challenging for fire trucks, necessitating the use of a backhoe to create pathways and contain the blaze. After two gruelling hours, firefighters successfully extinguished the fire. Mr. Suriya 55, the shop owner, said he had been preparing to leave for an errand when an employee alerted him to the fire. He immediately returned and contacted emergency services for assistance. Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire began in the forested area behind the shop, which borders the site where plastic waste had been piled. The flames from the forest fire spread to the shop’s waste materials, but the exact cause of the blaze remains unknown. Authorities are investigating whether the fire was started deliberately. -- 2024-12-25 ScreenRecording_12-24-2024 17-53-59_1.mp4
