Picture from responders. In a dramatic early morning incident, a car and a pickup truck plunged into a drainage canal beside the Ram Inthra Expressway, Bangkok leaving five people injured. Rescue workers rushed to the scene to provide immediate assistance and transported the injured to nearby hospitals. The accident occurred at 00:10 on December 24, near the entrance of Soi Praditmanutham 21 in Lat Phrao district. Police investigator Pol. Sub-Lt. Ekphop Painuea from Chokchai Police Station was alerted to the crash and arrived at the site alongside volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation. At the scene, a black Toyota Cross SUV with Bangkok plates was found half submerged in the canal, which was approximately five metres wide. The vehicle, damaged at both the front and rear, had tipped onto its side. Two women, a 65-year-old mother, Mrs. Akiraporn and her 30-year-old daughter, Ms. Thanisorn were trapped inside. Both women suffered minor injuries and were unable to get out of the car, half filled with water, until being rescued by emergency responders. They were taken to Paolo Chokchai 4 Hospital. Nearby, a grey Toyota Vigo pickup truck, also registered in Bangkok, was discovered upside-down completely submerged. Three men had been in the pickup, Mr. Komon, 33, and two 24-year-olds, Mr. Kittisak and Mr. Phongsathorn. All three were able to escape the pickup by themselves having sustained minor injuries, but were still in the drainage canal. They were treated for the effect of water intoxication, having swallowed too much water and two were sent to Paolo Chokchai 4 Hospital, while the third was transferred to Phyathai Nawamin Hospital. According to a rescue volunteer, both vehicles were found submerged in the roadside canal upon their arrival. They promptly rescued the five victims, all of whom were conscious and able to communicate, before transporting them to the hospitals for further treatment. The crash site is a known trouble spot due to the incline leading up to a bridge. High-speed driving has been identified as a frequent cause of crashes in the area. Initial investigations suggest that excessive speed and a possible collision between the vehicles may have caused the drivers to lose control and crash through the canal’s barrier. Pol. Sub-Lt. Ekphop stated that all five individuals remain hospitalised and that further inquiries will be conducted once their conditions improve. Preliminary information indicates that both vehicles were heading home at the time of the incident. Footage from a dashboard camera in the Toyota Cross is currently under review by police to determine the exact sequence of events. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. -- 2024-12-24

Picture from responders. A 38-year-old man died after his pickup truck crashed into road barriers twice and plunged into the Pasak River in Ayutthaya’s Nakhon Luang district. Despite efforts by local fishermen to assist, the vehicle sank completely before help could reach him. The incident occurred at around 19:30 on December 23, near the U-turn under the Nakhon Luang Bridge in Moo 5, Bang Rakam subdistrict. Police from Nakhon Luang Police Station, led by Police Captain Rakchart Prasoppol, and rescue divers from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Association were dispatched to the scene. Witnesses reported that a white four-door Isuzu pickup truck had been idling for a short time before the driver revved the engine and rammed into the concrete barriers. After reversing, the vehicle accelerated and struck the barriers again, dislodging one into the river and knocking over another before the truck itself plunged into the Pasak River. The entire vehicle slowly sank beneath the water, with no one seen exiting the cab. Rescue divers began their search in the 4-metre-deep river and eventually located the submerged truck. Upon opening the driver’s side door, they discovered the body of the driver, identified as Mr. Anon, a 38-year-old resident of Buriram province. The vehicle, which was found lying flat on the riverbed was retrieved. A tow truck was used to lift it from the water. The front of the truck sustained significant damage, with its bumper detached, but the windows remained intact. According to the victim’s relatives, Mr. Anon had earlier visited family in Song Phi Nong, Suphan Buri province, and was on his way to Chanthaburi to reunite with his wife and child. Police are working to review CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact cause of the incident. The victim’s body has been sent to the Ministry of Justice’s Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy. Investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing. -- 2024-12-24

Picture from responders. A 38-year-old food delivery rider was discovered dead in his pickup truck, parked at a friend’s home in Tha Sen, Ban Lat district, Phetchaburi province, after going missing for seven days. The incident was reported at 10:00 on December 23, prompting officers from Ban Lat Police Station, a medical examiner from Ban Lat Hospital, and rescue volunteers from Sawang Sanphetdhammasathan Foundation to respond. Upon arrival, authorities found a Toyota Vigo pickup truck parked in the driveway of the house, emitting a strong odour. Inside the vehicle, they discovered the deceased man lying on his back in the driver’s seat. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, and it was estimated he had been dead for approximately seven days. The deceased was identified as Mr. Phichitchai. Inside the truck, police found several beer bottles, packets of sleeping pills, and antidepressant medication scattered on the floor. There were no signs of struggle, violence, or missing valuables. The body was sent to the forensic unit for an autopsy to determine the exact cause and time of death. According to Mr. Por, a friend of the deceased, the man was a regular visitor to his home and had recently been experiencing personal issues, including a conflict with his girlfriend, who lives in another province. On December 17, the deceased had messaged Mr. Por via Facebook, stating he needed to travel to the southern region and requested to leave his truck in Mr. Por’s driveway. In his message, he instructed Mr. Por not to touch the truck, citing concerns about the vehicle’s anti-theft alarm. He also mentioned that if he was not heard from by Monday, Mr. Por should inform his uncle about the truck’s location. However, on the morning of December 23, Mr. Por noticed a foul smell coming from the truck and decided to investigate, only to discover his friend’s body inside. Neighbours stated that the deceased, a food delivery rider, was known to frequently visit Mr. Por and other friends for social gatherings. His last known visit was on December 17, after which he was not seen again until his body was found. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. -- 2024-12-24

Two men, aged 18 and 19, drowned, while the third managed to swim to safety. Police from Kathu Police Station and the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation rescue team were alerted to the incident at around 18.00. Upon arrival, they found a crowd of concerned onlookers gathered near the pond, which has a depth of approximately 6-7 metres. After around 40 minutes of searching, the rescue team recovered the bodies of both men from the middle of the pond, not far from where the boat had capsized. Their remains were transported to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further procedures. According to initial reports, the three men, all Myanmar nationals, had been rowing the fibre boat for leisure when it overturned in the middle of the pond. Picture from responders. CCTV and dash-cam below. A crash outside Wat Don Khwang School in Nakhon Ratchasima has claimed the life of a police officer and young students, leaving 11 others injured, including students and local vendors. The crash occurred at approximately 16:20 on December 23, when a speeding car veered off the road, striking pedestrians near the school entrance. The victim, Police Sub-Lieutenant Wimutt Tansupho, was on duty on his motorcycle and slowing down to stop at the school to assist students, when the vehicle, driven by an allegedly intoxicated man, slammed into him and then into a group of students waiting outside the school. Officer Wimutt sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Eyewitnesses described the horrifying scene. “The car was travelling at an extremely high speed,” one witness said. “It struck the students and the officer, pushing them into a wall. It was chaos.” The driver, identified as 62-year-old Mr Thanet, reportedly admitted to consuming beer before the crash. Emergency responders found him trapped inside the wreckage of his silver saloon car, which had collided with a school boundary wall. Though he sustained minor injuries, authorities noted his slurred speech and erratic behaviour at the scene. A breathalyser test proved positive for being over for drink driving limit. Among the injured were 11 people, including male and female students and nearby vendors. Emergency medical teams transported five victims each to Maharaj Hospital and P.Prat Hospital, while one person was sent to Bangkok Hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima. Injuries ranged from minor to severe, with many undergoing further treatment. During the night of December 23, it was announced that one of the students had died from their injuries, but no further details were released. Initial investigations revealed that the vehicle had been travelling from a military celebration in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Second Army Region headquarters towards the driver’s home in Buriram province. It ploughed through parked vehicles, motorbikes, and pedestrians before crashing into the school wall. During questioning, the driver reportedly told officers, “Calm down, I’m not a murderer,” prompting outrage among witnesses. Authorities are now conducting a full investigation to determine whether alcohol or other factors contributed to the crash. In a statement, local officials expressed condolences to the family of Police Sub-Lieutenant Wimutt Tansupho, who died while safeguarding children. A spokesperson added that the tragic incident underscores the urgent need for improved traffic safety measures near schools. The road near Wat Don Khwang School was closed as police collected evidence and clear debris as the investigation continues. -- 2024-12-24 Caution video below contains scenes of the collision. Picture from responders. An incident in Roi Et province has resulted in the death of a two-year-old boy after he was run over by a reversing pickup truck. The incident occurred on December 23, in the Bueang Udom village, located in the Na Udom subdistrict of Phon Thong district. At approximately 10:45 officers from the Phon Thong Police Station, along with rescue volunteers from Asoke Phon Thong and a local doctor, responded to a report of the collision. Upon arriving at the scene, they found the pickup truck stationary in the middle of a concrete road. There was a large pool of blood on the ground, and the child’s lifeless body had already been moved to a nearby wooden bed at a house. The victim had multiple injuries, including broken bones and severe lacerations and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to local witnesses, the pickup truck was transporting sand through the narrow alley when it encountered a motorcycle and sidecar blocking its path. The truck driver, attempting to reverse in order to go around the obstruction, apparently failed to notice the child standing behind the vehicle. As the truck reversed, it struck the boy, causing fatal injuries. The truck driver, 51-year-old Rewat, explained that he had entered the village to deliver sand for a road construction project. Upon reaching the scene, he saw the motorcycle and sidecar parked in the way and checked to ensure no other obstacles were present. After confirming that there was nothing blocking his path, he reversed the truck to find an alternate route. He did not realise that the child was behind the vehicle and only noticed something unusual when he felt the truck run over something. After stopping, he discovered that he had run over the child. Despite his efforts to assist the boy, he was unable to save him. The Phon Thong Police have investigated the scene, collected evidence, and recorded witness statements as part of the ongoing inquiry. Authorities are continuing to process the case and will proceed according to the law. -- 2024-12-24

Fatal Motorcycle Crash at Notorious Bend Sparks Local Superstition A factory worker from the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate lost his life in a motorcycle accident during the early hours of the morning, prompting renewed fears among locals about a so-called “cursed bend” notorious for frequent fatal crashes. Picture from responders. A factory worker from the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate lost his life in a motorcycle accident during the early hours of the morning of December 23, prompting renewed fears among locals about a so-called “cursed bend” notorious for frequent fatal crashes. At around 03:00 the Sawang Porngkusol Rayong rescue team was alerted to a motorcycle crash on the Tha Banthuk Road near Bangkok-Rayong Hospital, just before the golf course. Upon arriving at the scene, rescue workers found a damaged pink-and-black Honda motorcycle, registration from Rayong, lying near the base of a streetlight pole. Next to the pole was the lifeless body of 22-year-old Mr. Chanin Treechit, a resident of Samed Daeng Road, Tambon Thap Ma, Muang District, Rayong. His helmet had been ripped off by the force of the i pact and was found near the body. His injuries were severe: a fractured skull with a large gash on his forehead, a collapsed chest, and a left leg nearly severed at the knee. Despite rescue workers performing CPR and summoning an ambulance from Rayong Hospital, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. According to Mr. Chanin’s elder sister, he had been returning home after attending a New Year’s party with colleagues. She suspected he might have been intoxicated and lost control of the motorcycle on the bend, crashing into the streetlight pole. Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation into the incident. The victim’s body was transported to Rayong Hospital for an autopsy as part of routine procedures. Local residents have expressed their unease about the site of the crash, with many attributing it to supernatural forces. Just days earlier, another fatal accident occurred at the same location, involving a car that struck a streetlight, splitting the pole in two. Residents claim that crashes at this bend seem to peak annually around the New Year period, often resulting in fatalities. Police have yet to confirm the exact cause of the crash, but in the meantime, locals continue to avoid the area, particularly at night, fearing the alleged curse of the bend. -- 2024-12-24

Picture from responders. A 48-year-old man was found dead inside his car in a case of apparent suicide, believed to be triggered by financial pressures stemming from unemployment. The incident occurred near a community behind Wat Woraprot Sangkhawas, Bang Nang subdistrict, Phan Thong district, Chonburi province. Police from Phan Thong Police Station, along with rescue workers, responded to the scene at approximately 11:00mon December 23. The man, identified as Mr. Tawit, was discovered sitting lifeless in the driver's seat of a white car. Next to him were an empty bottle of insecticide and a partially consumed bottle of soda. Officials estimate he had been deceased for two days, as his body had started to bloat. Mrs. Somchit, a 61-year-old neighbour, recounted that the deceased had recently confided in her about his financial struggles. Having lost his job, he faced mounting stress from not being able to meet daily expenses or keep up with car loan payments. He had been taking on odd jobs to make ends meet. "He told me he recently joined a friend in fishing with a dragnet for three days and earned just 900 baht," Mrs. Somchit said. "The last time I saw him was on Friday evening. I usually check on his house, but I didn't over the weekend. This morning, I noticed the car door was slightly open. When I looked inside, I found him dead." Mrs. Daeng, a 70-year-old grocery shop owner, recalled a chilling conversation with the man before his death. "He came to buy liquor from my shop and said, 'I won't be around anymore. I asked where he was going, but he only replied, 'Grandma, I'm not going to be here anymore,' before leaving with the bottle. I assumed he meant he was moving for work. I never thought it would come to this." Police have sent the body for an autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death. Picture from responders. A shocking shooting at approximately 22.00 on December 22, at a Hat Yai restaurant left two people dead and three injured after an enraged customer opened fire over a dispute with staff. The incident occurred at the "Krua Phawana" restaurant on Nual Kaew Uthit Road in Hat Yai district, Songkhla province. Police officers, led by Pol. Lt. Krisada Munnmit, arrived at the scene after being alerted to the shooting. The gunman, identified as Mr. Akkaraporn Phamjamnong, a 50-year-old defence volunteer, later turned himself in to authorities, surrendering the 9mm handgun used in the attack. At the scene, police found Mr. Sitthipong Siriphan, 48, dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Another victim, Ms. Orrachon Eiadkham, 45, died later in the hospital from similar injuries. The two were celebrating their son's birthday at the restaurant with their children. A 6-year-old girl, believed to be their daughter, sustained a head injury, while her 12-year-old brother was unharmed. Two other individuals were injured in the attack: • Ms. Phawana Udtah, 46, the restaurant owner, sustained a head injury. • Mr. Suriya Supradit, 42, a customer, was shot in the right arm. Both were rushed to Hat Yai Hospital for treatment. Witnesses stated that the gunman, Mr. Akkaraporn, dined alone and ordered alcohol. After stepping outside to smoke, a server unknowingly began clearing his table, believing he had finished. This misunderstanding infuriated Mr. Akkaraporn, leading to a heated argument with the server and the restaurant owner. The situation escalated when Mr. Akkaraporn left the premises, only to return shortly after, armed with a handgun. CCTV footage captured him confronting the restaurant owner again before drawing the weapon and firing indiscriminately. Panicked customers fled for safety as the gunman continued to shoot, even targeting wounded victims on the ground. Police recovered eight 9mm shell casings at the scene. CCTV footage provides clear evidence of the shooting, which will be used in the ongoing investigation. The accused, Mr. Akkaraporn, 50-year-old volunteer defense officer, claimed a different account and told police he had gone to the restaurant carrying half a bottle of liquor. After briefly leaving his table to greet a friend outside, he returned to find his table cleared by the waitstaff, even though he had not finished his meal or paid the bill. Frustrated, he left without eating further and went home to settle the bill later. Later in the evening, Mr. Akkaraporn returned to the same restaurant with friends. According to his statement, the restaurant owner accused him of brandishing a firearm during his earlier visit. Initially, he denied the allegation and suggested the owner review the CCTV footage, which reportedly showed no evidence of him drawing a weapon. He claimed to have apologised to the owner with a wai gesture for any misunderstanding, but he alleged that the owner continued to insult him. The situation escalated when two patrons at a nearby table, who reportedly witnessed the earlier incident, accused Mr. Akkaraporn of brandishing a firearm and offered to testify against him. The accused claimed that they also insulted him and that others attempted to restrain him and contact the police. Feeling unjustly targeted, he said he lost his temper and used the firearm he had with him to open fire, leading to the deaths and injuries. Authorities are currently questioning Mr. Akkaraporn in detail before proceeding with legal charges. -- 2024-12-24
