The Swang Mongkol Sattha Rescue Centre in Lom Sak received a report around 16:00 about a foreign paragliding flyer who had fallen from the sky near the Lomsak-Ban Bueng Road in the Lom Kao area, close to the Lom Kao Market. Rescue teams rushed to the scene, where they discovered the body of a 58-year-old Chinese man, entangled in his collapsed parachute. Eyewitnesses reported that the flyer had launched from Phu Thap Boek, a popular site for paragliding, and was flying along the route when the parachute suddenly folded, causing him to fall rapidly to the ground. Picture captured from CCTV. A shocking incident captured on CCTV revealed the dangers of leaving a motorcycle engine running with a child on board. A 30-year-old mother sustained injuries after her two-year-old son accidentally twisted the throttle of her parked motorcycle, causing it to crash through the glass door of the stall owner’s home. The toddler escaped unscathed. The accident occurred at 20:00 on December 4 on Nang Rong-Lam Plai Mat Road, Buriram. Rescuers from the Siam Ruamjai Pu-In Foundation were called to the scene where a motorcycle had crashed into a house, shattering the glass door. At the site, authorities found a Yamaha motorcycle toppled over amid broken glass. The injured mother, was holding her two-year-old son close to her chest. She had multiple cuts on her arms and legs from the shattered glass, while the child, fortunately, emerged unharmed. CCTV footage from the shop revealed that the mother had stopped her motorcycle with the engine still running to buy a drink. While waiting, she answered a phone call, momentarily releasing her grip on the throttle. The toddler, seated at the front of the motorcycle, inadvertently twisted the throttle fully, sending the vehicle hurtling forward into the glass door. Mr. Chutiphong, 55, the stall owner, recounted the incident: “The mother parked in front of my stall and ordered a drink. While I was preparing her order, she answered a phone call, using her right hand, which is typically used to control the throttle. In that brief moment, the child, unaware of the consequences, twisted the throttle. The motorcycle surged forward, crashing through the glass door and into my house.” Though the child was unharmed, the incident left the mother with multiple injuries and property damage. Mr. Chutiphong urged parents and motorcyclists to exercise extreme caution when traveling with young children, noting that such an incidents could easily result in more severe outcomes. Picture from responders. A 38-year-old Australian man caused chaos in a housing estate in Pattaya, Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, early on the morning of December 4. The man, later identified as Andrew Bruno, was reportedly in a state of psychotic distress. He ran naked through the area, smashed vehicles with a metal grate, and ultimately set his rented house on fire. Pol. Lt. Nathakorn Chanlod of Nong Prue Police Station received a report at 08:30 about the foreign man behaving violently in Paradise Hill Villa 1 on Soi Thung Klom–Tan Man, Moo 10. Officers and fire services were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found significant damage to a black Ford Everest and a blue Honda Click motorcycle parked in front of the house. The suspect had used a metal drain cover to smash the vehicles. Inside the house, chaos ensued as Andrew Bruno screamed and broke furniture. Neighbours and security footage revealed the man was naked and aggressive, yelling at police and threatening to burn the house down if anyone approached. Despite police efforts to calm him, Bruno retreated inside and set the house on fire. Smoke quickly filled the property. Police called the Nong Prue Municipal Fire Dervice, which arrived shortly after and extinguished the fire before it could spread. Officers subdued the suspect in a tense struggle as he resisted arrest. Bruno sustained injuries from broken glass and minor burns and was transported to Bang Lamung Hospital for treatment. The homeowner, Ms. Am 56, explained that Bruno had been renting the property with his Thai wife and two children for six months. She revealed that he suffered from depression and bipolar disorder and often displayed violent behaviour when not taking his medication. Recently, he had shown signs of distress, yelling and arguing with his wife. In the days leading up to the incident, Bruno’s behavior became increasingly erratic. On the morning of the fire, his wife and children fled to the security booth at the housing estate, leaving him alone in the house. The estate’s security guard witnessed Bruno smashing vehicles and unsuccessfully attempting to block the home’s ventilation with electrical tape before setting it ablaze. Authorities plan to question Bruno and his family after his medical treatment to determine the appropriate legal actions. Damages from the incident include the fire and smoke damage to the house, two damaged vehicles, and broken household items. -- 2024-12-05

Police Lieutenant Colonel Phuttarak Sornkamhan of Pattaya City Police Station received a report on the early evening of December 4 about the fatal incident. Authorities and rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation promptly arrived at the scene. The victim, identified as 66-year-old Canadian Shirou Gilbert, was found lying face down at the bottom of the resort’s staircase. His head had struck the edge of a statue of a traditional dancer, positioned near the second step. Despite rescue efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Resort staff confirmed that Gilbert had checked into the resort on December 2 and was scheduled to check out on December 9. Before the fall, he was seen leaving the resort, possibly for a workout. Upon returning, as he ascended the stairs with three steps leading to the resort, he lost his footing, fell, and struck his head on the statue, resulting in his death. In an initial investigation, officers found three suitcases in his room on the 9th floor, containing clothes, personal items, and a laptop with a charger. A box of medication and syringes was also discovered on a shelf near the refrigerator, suggesting he may have been undergoing treatment or had a medical condition. Authorities have collected the medication for further examination. Currently, the resort’s security footage has not been reviewed, as the staff responsible for monitoring it is out of town. Picture from responders. A boat collision occurred on the Chao Phraya River near the Bangkok Bridge on December 4, resulting in one vessel sinking and damage to five others. Police officers from Bang Kho Laem Police Station, along with the Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department and the Marine Department, were dispatched to the scene to investigate. The incident took place near the Bangkok Bridge, where six boats were involved. One boat, a 40-seat vessel, completely sank, while another sustained significant damage to its side and rear. Three additional boats were also damaged during the collision. A number of the boats damaged are tourist boats, used for dining cruises. Mr. Thongchai, a 61-year-old boat operator, stated that he was transporting charcoal to Ayutthaya when the collision occurred. He explained that the strong current caused one of the two towing ropes on the left side of his vessel to snap, rendering the boat uncontrollable. As a result, his vessel veered off course and collided with boats moored along the riverbank. Police took Mr. Thongchai to Bang Kho Laem Police Station for further questioning. Ms. Pimphimon, a 61-year-old passenger on the cargo boat, recounted the terrifying moment the rope snapped, causing the vessel to lose control. She was in the kitchen when she heard shouts warning of the impending collision. The boat, which had departed from Si Chang Island and was headed toward Nakhon Luang District in Ayutthaya, struck the stationary boats along the riverbank. Ms. Pimphimon expressed her shock, describing the incident as the first of its kind she had experienced. Another passenger, Ms. Jeab, confirmed the account, adding that she saw the collision but was unable to intervene due to the strong current and the broken towing rope. Mr. Thanaphat, a local resident who witnessed the collision, reported hearing a loud crash at approximately 10:00. He rushed out to see a cargo vessel crashing into several moored boats, with some of them drifting into the bridge in the middle of the river. One boat sank entirely. Fortunately, there were no injuries, as most of the boats along the riverbank were unoccupied at the time. Initial assessments suggest that the strong morning currents may have caused the cargo vessel to lose control, leading to the collision. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause and cost of the incident. -- 2024-12-05

Picture from responders. A fire broke out in a residential area in Pa Mok Subdistrict, Ang Thong Province, on December 4, quickly spreading to engulf multiple homes within minutes. The blaze resulted in extensive damage to four houses, but fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. At around 13:00 the Provincial Police Operations Centre in Ang Thong received a report of a house fire in the Pa Mok Municipality area, specifically in Moo 3, Pa Mok Subdistrict. In response, local firefighting teams were dispatched immediately to the scene, where they found that three raised wooden houses had been completely destroyed, and a two-story residence had suffered partial damage. The fire spread rapidly due to the dry conditions and the presence of flammable materials, as the affected homes were involved in the business of making curtains and interior fabric items. Firefighters from Pa Mok Municipality, along with teams from surrounding local authorities, worked together to contain the fire. It took approximately an hour to bring the situation fully under control. An initial investigation suggests that the cause of the fire may have been an electrical short circuit, though this remains under investigation. In the aftermath of the incident, Ang Thong Deputy Governor Chawanin Wongsthitjirakarn, who was acting on behalf of the Governor, arrived at the scene to oversee the response efforts. Accompanied by the Pa Mok District Chief, the Mayor of Pa Mok, and relevant agencies, they coordinated the establishment of an emergency assistance centre for those affected by the fire. Additionally, the Ang Thong Red Cross was contacted to provide urgent aid to the victims. Local authorities are continuing to assess the situation and provide support to those who have been impacted by this event. -- 2024-12-05
