Picture courtesy of Workpoint. Residents of a quiet neighbourhood in Rayong province were left stunned when a large python was discovered curled up under the bonnet of a pickup truck, apparently digesting a chicken it had just devoured. The incident occurred around 11:00 on 9 June, in the Rarn Nam alley of Pluak Daeng District. Local rescue workers were alerted by a resident who spotted the snake slithering into the engine compartment of a parked vehicle and feared it could pose a danger. Upon arriving at the scene, rescue personnel found a pickup truck, parked in front of a house. Opening the bonnet revealed a two-metre-long python coiled calmly within the engine bay, seemingly enjoying a post-meal rest. The rescue team managed to safely extract the snake within minutes and later released it back into its natural habitat. The vehicle’s owner, 29-year-old Mr Nikhom said he had earlier heard unusual noises coming from his chicken coop but had not investigated at the time. “I didn’t think much of it,” he said, “until I opened the bonnet during a routine check and nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw the python curled up inside.” Mr Nikhom believes the snake had consumed one of his chickens and taken refuge in the vehicle’s engine compartment to digest its meal and escape the heat. “We sometimes see snakes around here,” he added, “but I’ve never found one sleeping in my truck before.” Adapted by Asean Now from Workpoint 2025-06-10

A 30-year-old woman has died and her 12-year-old son is in serious condition after their motorcycle collided with the rear of a parked truck transporting a modular home in Phitsanulok province. The collision occurred on Highway 1086, in front of a noodle shop in Mueang district, Phitsanulok. The victim, identified as Ms. Siwika, was riding her motorbike with her son as pillion passenger when she lost control and crashed into the back of a white Isuzu flatbed truck. The truck was one of three parked along the roadside, delivering prefabricated homes. Rescue workers from the Khaophap Foundation rushed to the scene. Ms. Siwika was found unconscious with critical abdominal and head injuries, with a visibly broken left arm. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her son sustained serious head and abdominal injuries. He was transported to Buddhachinaraj Hospital where he remains under close medical supervision. The boy has not yet been informed of his mother’s death to avoid causing further emotional trauma. Family members arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Ms. Siwika’s mother collapsed in grief upon seeing her daughter’s body. Through tears, she shared that her daughter had travelled into Phitsanulok city earlier that day to visit a sick relative and was on her way home to Nong Tom Market in Phrom Phiram district, where she made a living selling goods. Mr. Sumit, the 30-year-old driver of the truck, told police that he and his team had driven from Pathum Thani to deliver the modular homes. They had stopped to eat noodles at a roadside stall when the crash occurred. He said the motorcycle appeared to brush against one of his team members walking beside the road, causing Ms. Siwika to lose control and crash directly into the back of the vehicle. Police at Mueang Phitsanulok Station are continuing to investigate the incident and have begun taking witness statements. Legal proceedings will follow in accordance with the findings. Highway 1086, which runs between Phitsanulok and Wat Bot, has recently been expanded into a four-lane road and has been the site of several fatal incidents. Just the night before, a motorcycle crashed into a roadside coffee stall less than 1.5 km from this incident, resulting in two fatalities. The body of Ms. Siwika has been released to her family for religious rites. Police continue to remind motorists and pedestrians alike to exercise caution on this increasingly dangerous stretch of road. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-06-10

The incident occurred at approximately 16:30 on the Phitsanulok–Kwae Noi Road in Village 4, Pak Thok Subdistrict, Mueang District. Police Lieutenant Narumon Saeng-un of Mueang Phitsanulok Police Station responded to the emergency, alongside a medical team from Naresuan University Hospital and rescue workers from the Prasat Boonyasathan Foundation. Upon arrival, authorities found a red Honda Wave 125i motorcycle, registration number from Phitsanulok, embedded in the wall of a coffee shop. The vehicle had sustained major damage. Nearby, a severely injured individual was receiving CPR before being rushed to hospital. Inside the coffee shop, responders discovered the body of 15-year-old Mr Paripat, a resident of Village 9, Wong Khong Subdistrict, Phrom Phiram District. He was pronounced dead at the scene with multiple injuries. A backpack containing a school uniform was also found near his body. The second victim, also 15, who had initially survived the crash, later succumbed to his injuries at Naresuan University Hospital. CCTV footage from a nearby tyre shop showed the motorcycle speeding just moments before losing control and crashing into the café. Fortunately, the shop was closed at the time, and no customers or staff were present, preventing further casualties. The bodies have been sent to the Naresuan University forensic unit for autopsy before being released to the families for traditional funeral rites. Police are continuing their investigation but excessive speed was a key factor in the crash. Adapted by Asean Now from Workpoint 2025-06-10

Pictures courtesy of Matichon. A construction incident occurred on the afternoon of 9 June, when a large crane collapsed at the site of a 67-storey condominium in Pattaya, sending workers fleeing in panic. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities. The incident took place around 13:00 on Soi Thap Phraya 15. The crane’s boom, which was lifting a cement bucket, buckled and collapsed during the operation. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos as construction workers scrambled to safety. In response, Pattaya City Mayor Poramet Ngampichet ordered an immediate suspension of all construction activities at the site, citing urgent safety concerns. “Our first priority is to ensure the safety of all workers and nearby residents,” said the mayor. “An investigation is already underway to determine the cause of the collapse.” Preliminary findings suggest that over 30 storeys of the building had already been constructed. During the operation, the crane’s boom reportedly bent and gave way, causing steel cables to snap. The crane’s boom then fell against the structure of the building itself. Engineers from the Pattaya City Engineering Office are now tasked with examining the equipment in detail to determine whether the crane failed due to structural weakness or because it was overloaded beyond standard limits. Construction will remain suspended until a full safety assessment is completed and authorities are satisfied that the site is secure. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-06-10

A fatal road crash in Ratchaburi province claimed the life of a Myanmar woman and left six others injured after a saloon car collided head-on with a pickup truck on a rural road on the evening of 8 June. The incident occurred at approximately 19:00, on the road running alongside the irrigation canal in Moo 3, Don Rae subdistrict, Mueang district. Pol. Sub-Lt. Natthaphon Phianpitak from Mueang Ratchaburi Police Station responded to the scene, accompanied by emergency medical teams from Ratchaburi Hospital and rescue workers from Prachanukul Foundation. At the scene, officers found a blue four-door Isuzu pickup truck with front-end damage. The rear of the vehicle was off the road in roadside brush. The driver, Mr. Thaksin, aged 29, sustained minor injuries. Two passengers, Ms. Natthamon, also 29 and a 12-year-old boy named Monthon, were also slightly injured. Nearby, authorities discovered a blue Toyota saloon car with front damage. Inside were three injured passengers, one child and two adults. A 29-year-old Myanmar woman, identified as Miss Lwin Mar, who had been seated in the front passenger seat, was found dead at the scene. The driver, Mr. Zaw Mo Nai, 30, a Myanmar national, was seriously injured and trapped in the wreckage. Rescue workers used hydraulic cutting equipment to free him before transporting him to Ratchaburi Hospital for emergency treatment. Mr. Thaksin told police that he had been driving from Ratchaburi city towards his home near the Huai Chin Si intersection when the saloon car, which was coming from the opposite direction, appeared to swerve suddenly, possibly to avoid something near the bridge over the canal and then lost control, crashing directly into his vehicle. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the collision and will interview all injured parties as part of legal proceedings. Adapted by Asean Now from SiamRath 2025-06-10

The incident was reported to police at approximately 00:30 on 9 June by the victim, Mr. Guvoy, who filed a complaint with Pol. Sub-Lt. Phuttharak Sonkamhan, an investigator at Pattaya City Police Station, Dongtan Curve sub-branch. According to the initial account provided by the victim’s wife, the attack occurred earlier on 8 June. Mr. Guvoy had entered the wooded area adjacent to the soi to urinate and was standing smoking a cigarette when he was ambushed by two assailants, believed to be a teenage male accompanied by a younger boy. One of the attackers struck him on the head with an unidentified object, causing him to lose consciousness. While the full extent of the stolen items remains unclear due to the prolonged period of several hours, the victim said he was unconscious, he confirmed that personal belongings were taken during the attack. Upon regaining consciousness, Mr. Guvoy sought help from friends and his wife, who then accompanied him to file the police report. Pol. Sub-Lt. Phuttharak has since reported the matter to his superior, Pol. Col. Anek Sarathongyu, superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station. CIB Raids Rayong Construction Company Over Illegal Chinese Pipe Imports Picture courtesy of Matichon. Picture courtesy of Matichon. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has raided a construction supply company in Rayong province following a tip-off that the business was smuggling plastic pipes from China into Thailand without paying import duties. Acting on orders from Police Lieutenant General Jiraphop Phuridej, Commissioner of the CIB, officers from the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD), under the command of senior officers including Police Major General Thaspoom Jaruprach, coordinated the raid on Wee Thai Construction Co., Ltd., located near the Airplane Market in Nikom Phatthana district. The company and its executives are accused of violating customs laws by knowingly concealing and distributing untaxed goods. The goods in question, PVC and PE pipes, are commonly used in agricultural irrigation, plumbing and electrical conduit systems. The investigation began after complaints were filed by consumers who questioned how the company could sell products significantly cheaper than competitors. Authorities suspected the low prices were a result of the goods being smuggled into the country to avoid customs duties. Surveillance and intelligence gathering by the ECD’s Subdivision 2 revealed the company had indeed been importing large quantities of pipes without passing through formal customs procedures. Officers secured a search warrant from Rayong Provincial Court and proceeded with the raid. During the operation, authorities discovered over 1,000 pieces of PE and PVC piping of Chinese origin stored at the company’s warehouse. The company was unable to provide documentation proving the legal importation of the goods or the payment of relevant duties. As a result, the CIB seized the goods and filed a formal complaint against both the company and its authorised executive director. Legal proceedings have begun under The Customs Act, which prohibits the possession or sale of goods that have not cleared customs inspection. During preliminary questioning, the suspect confessed to all charges, admitting that the pipes were brought into Thailand illegally. The company had been mixing undeclared products with legitimately imported goods in order to avoid detection. The pipes were brought in via Laem Chabang Port and had been distributed across the local market for nearly a year. The suspect claimed the motivation behind the operation was to meet high market demand while keeping prices low. However, authorities warned that such actions not only breach customs law but also pose potential safety and quality risks to consumers. The investigation is ongoing and the CIB has signalled that it will continue to crack down on similar operations across the country to protect consumers and uphold fair market competition. The collision, which occurred at a traffic light junction in Pathum Thani province, resulted in the driver being decapitated on impact. At around 03:30, Pol. Sub-Lt. Sahasawat Sopha from Suan Phrik Thai Police Station responded to the scene at the Ban Klang traffic lights on Rangsit-Pathum Thani Road. He was joined by forensic doctors from the Ministry of Justice, traffic police and rescue volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation. At the scene, officers found a Hino 10-wheeled lorry, registered in Nong Bua Lamphu province, stationary in the middle of the intersection. A Volvo sedan, registered in Bangkok, was wedged halfway under the lorry’s rear. Inside the wrecked vehicle, police discovered the body of the male driver, who had been decapitated by the force of the collision. His severed head was found on the back seat. The lorry driver, 58-year-old Mr Prayoon remained at the scene to cooperate with police. He told officers he had been delivering bottles from Chonburi to a recycling facility in central Pathum Thani. As he approached the intersection, he said he was slowly rolling along, when he heard a loud crash at the rear of his truck. His wife, who was seated beside him, was thrown against the front windshield by the impact. Upon inspecting the scene, he discovered the Volvo had rammed into his vehicle without any apparent attempt to brake. The victim’s father later arrived at the scene, devastated. He explained that his son had been returning home to Bang Kadi after visiting friends in the Bangkok University area. Police recorded the scene as evidence and arranged for the deceased’s body to be sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Ministry of Justice for further examination. Relatives will be contacted to collect the body for funeral rites. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-06-09

Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A shocking murder has shaken the local community in Pattani after a female subdistrict administrative officer (SAO) was fatally shot multiple times in her own grocery shop. Authorities are investigating possible motives, including personal issues, work-related tensions and regional unrest. Pol. Col. Torlap Lengha, Superintendent of Mayo Police Station, confirmed that police were alerted by Mayo Hospital at 22:05 on 7 June, reporting a shooting victim who had succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital. The incident occurred at a grocery shop in Moo 2, Panan subdistrict, Mayo district. The victim, identified as Ms Mariyah aged 45, was employed as a financial officer at the administrative organisation of Pado subdistrict. She sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was found in critical condition. Eyewitnesses reported hearing several gunshots ring out in rapid succession, followed by the discovery of the victim’s body amidst a pool of blood in her shop. Forensic officers were dispatched to the scene on the morning of 8 June to gather further evidence, while surrounding CCTV footage is being reviewed. Preliminary findings suggest that the attack was premeditated and may have involved more than one assailant. Police are actively pursuing three possible motives: a personal dispute, work-related conflict or involvement with the ongoing unrest in Thailand’s southern border provinces. The investigation is being led by Pol. Lt. Col. Sannpakorn Luechiew, who has been tasked with overseeing the collection of evidence and interviewing witnesses. Senior commanders have ordered an expedited operation to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the case to come forward. Picture courtesy of Matichon. In a crackdown on counterfeit goods, police together with officials from the Department of Intellectual Property under the Ministry of Commerce and representatives from several brands, raided a hidden warehouse on the fourth floor of a well-known shopping mall in the Pathumwan district of Bangkok. The operation, conducted on 8 June, led to the discovery of a concealed stockpile of counterfeit designer footwear, including items bearing fake logos of high-end brands such as Dior, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Gucci, Nike, Adidas, New Balance, and Balenciaga. Authorities seized over 2,610 pairs of shoes with an estimated market value exceeding 10 million baht. The storage room had been cleverly disguised as an “Engineering Department” facility to avoid detection by mall security and authorities. However, following a detailed investigation and intelligence gathering, police obtained a search warrant from the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court and successfully carried out the raid. Three suspects were arrested at the scene: Ms. Niphaporn 44, Mr. Siwanat 32 and Mr. Wanchai 60. All three confessed to owning the counterfeit merchandise and admitted their intent to sell the goods through retail outlets within the shopping centre. The suspects have been charged with “possession of goods bearing counterfeit trademarks registered in the Kingdom with the intent to sell,” and have been handed over to the Economic Crime Suppression Division (Econ Crime Division 1) for legal proceedings. The raid comes as part of ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to clamp down on the illegal trade of counterfeit goods, particularly those infringing upon registered international trademarks, which pose a significant threat to legitimate businesses and consumer trust. Construction Firm Director Arrested for Using 522 Fake Tax Invoices, Causing Over 10 Million Picture courtesy of Matichon. Picture courtesy of Matichon. Police have arrested a senior executive of a construction company accused of using hundreds of fraudulent tax invoices to unlawfully claim VAT credits, resulting in losses to the government exceeding 10 million baht. Mr Phongsak 49, a director and authorised signatory of Alex Built Co., Ltd., was apprehended by officers from the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) on 8 June in front of his residence in Moo 5, Bang Krang subdistrict, Mueang district, Nonthaburi Province. The arrest was carried out under a warrant issued by the Thonburi Criminal Court (No. 189/2568, dated 11 February 2025). The operation was led by Pol Col Tattapoom Jaruprach, Commander of the ECD, with support from Pol Col Naruephon Karuna and Pol Lt Col Wannalop Rattanawong of ECD Sub-Division 2. The case stems from an investigation by the Nonthaburi Area Revenue Office 2, which uncovered evidence that Alex Built Co., Ltd. had submitted a total of 522 falsified tax invoices allegedly issued by various other companies. These invoices were used to inflate the company’s input tax claims, significantly reducing its payable value-added tax (VAT). Authorities determined that these forged documents were used to fraudulently claim tax deductions totalling 10,730,768 baht, prompting a formal complaint by revenue officials and the initiation of criminal proceedings. Mr Phongsak is charged with “jointly using forged tax invoices or unlawfully issued tax invoices to claim tax credits,” a serious offence under both tax and criminal law. During questioning, the suspect denied all charges. However, police say sufficient documentary evidence has been gathered to support the prosecution. He has since been handed over to investigators at ECD Sub-Division 2 for further legal proceedings. The arrest is part of a broader crackdown on tax evasion and economic crimes, which the ECD says continues to undermine public revenues and harm fair business practices. Authorities have vowed to pursue both individuals and companies involved in similar fraudulent activities. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-06-09

Picture courtesy of Daily News. A violent love triangle took a dramatic turn in Udon Thani when a 36-year-old man attacked a younger rival with a cleaver in a fit of jealousy. The incident, which left one man with a serious head wound, was later bizarrely resolved at the police station after both men agreed to walk away from the woman at the centre of the dispute. Police were called to the Nong Lek 6 alleyway in Udon Thani municipality following reports of an assault. Officers from Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, along with patrol officers and local rescue volunteers, arrived to find Mr Paiwan, 27, bleeding heavily from a deep cut to the left side of his head. He was discovered sitting in the back of a pickup truck. Rescue teams administered first aid at the scene. The alleged attacker, Mr Surasit, also known as “Sam”, aged 36, remained at the scene and did not attempt to flee. He reportedly used a meat cleaver to strike Mr Paiwan once in the head. According to Mr Paiwan, he had been cutting grass to feed his cows when Mr Surasit approached and attacked him without warning. The motive appears to be jealousy, as both men had reportedly been romantically involved with the same woman, Ms Phet, who lives near the scene of the incident. Adapted by Asean Now from Daily News 2025-06-09 Ms Phet confirmed to police that she had previously been in a brief one-month relationship with Mr Surasit, which ended due to his lack of employment. She said she then began a relationship with Mr Paiwan, whom she described as hard-working and more stable. According to her, Mr Surasit had threatened that if he couldn’t have her, no one else could. Both men were taken to the Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, where they agreed to a settlement in the presence of Pol. Lt. Col. Teerapap Phukhansai, the investigating officer. Mr Paiwan initially requested compensation of 5,000 baht for medical treatment and emotional damages. Mr Surasit could only provide 2,000 baht at the time, but promised to pay the full amount after Mr Paiwan undergoes further medical checks at the hospital. If the agreed compensation is not paid in full, legal action will proceed. Mr Surasit admitted his wrongdoing, saying, “I regret what I did. I have apologised to Mr Paiwan. I won’t pursue Ms Phet again. Let this be the end.” Mr Paiwan echoed the sentiment, stating, “I’ve had enough of Ms Phet. She always has other men around. It’s best we all go our separate ways.” Mr Nirun 37, the elder brother of the injured man, told reporters that both men were acquaintances and had fallen out over the shared relationship. He confirmed that the attack likely stemmed from jealousy after Mr Surasit saw Ms Phet walking towards Mr Paiwan. He described the incident as the result of a love triangle, saying, “This woman lived a double life. Whether they continue seeing her or not is their choice, but hopefully, this is the end of it.”

Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A Myanmar construction worker lost his life in the early hours of morning of 8 June, following an incident at a sewage installation site on Rama 2 Road in Bangkok’s Chom Thong district. The incident occurred just before 02:00 as the man was working several metres below ground level. The victim, identified as Mr U Re, aged 39, had been part of a night-shift crew involved in the installation of a new sewage pipeline. He was working at a depth of approximately three metres below ground level when a sudden subsidence of concrete and soil caused a partial collapse of the excavation site. The heavy debris fell directly onto him, trapping him beneath the rubble. Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene. Despite the difficult conditions, rescue workers managed to free Mr U Re from the collapsed trench. At the time of his rescue, he was still showing signs of life, but was severely injured and struggling to breathe. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but medical staff were unable to revive him. His heart stopped shortly after arrival and he was pronounced dead despite resuscitation efforts, soon after. Preliminary reports suggest that the collapse may have been caused by soil instability and inadequate structural support around the trench. Witnesses at the scene described a sudden and loud cracking noise, followed by the collapse of concrete and earth into the excavation trench. Colleagues of the deceased have been left shocked and distressed. One fellow worker, who asked not to be named, said the team had been working under pressure to meet deadlines and that some parts of the site may have lacked proper safety reinforcement. Authorities from the local district office and safety inspectors are now conducting a full investigation into the cause of the incident. The construction company responsible for the project has pledged full cooperation with the investigation. Mr U Re, who had reportedly worked in Thailand for several years, is survived by family members both in Thailand and Myanmar. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-06-09
