  2. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 34-year-old personal trainer was found dead in a car in Nakhon Sawan in what is believed to be a case of suicide linked to severe depression and a financial dispute with a former partner. Police and emergency services were called to the roadside near the Sky Garden Market on the Suphai–Sankhu Road in Nakhon Sawan Tok Subdistrict. Officers from Mueang Nakhon Sawan Police Station, along with rescue workers and a medical examiner from Sawanpracharak Hospital, discovered a white Honda City, parked with all windows tightly shut and the engine turned off. Inside, they found the lifeless body of Mr. Thawatchai, also known as Bird, lying in the driver’s seat. His body was discoloured and showed signs consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning. A charcoal stove, still emitting residual heat, was discovered in the front passenger footwell, suggesting he had used it to asphyxiate himself. His sister, Ms. Nuengruthai, tearfully informed investigators that her brother had been battling depression since the death of their mother and had attempted suicide on three previous occasions, all of which she had managed to prevent. He had been living with her and borrowed her car the night before, saying he was going to do laundry. When both he and the car were missing the following morning, she sensed something was wrong and began a frantic search, eventually finding the car parked at the scene. Ms. Nuengruthai added that in addition to his depression, her brother had been under immense stress due to a financial betrayal by a former boyfriend, who allegedly swindled him out of more than 2 million baht. Despite repeated efforts to recover the money, Mr. Thawatchai was met with indifference, which further contributed to his mental decline. Police have taken Ms. Nuengruthai in for further questioning and have sent the body for a full autopsy at Sawanpracharak Hospital. The remains will be returned to the family for religious rites once the post-mortem is completed. 4. Picture courtesy of Matichon. Two men were killed and three others injured in a horrific early-morning crash after their car flipped over a central reservation on Chalong Krung Road in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district. The crash occurred around 03:00 on 6 June, near the overpass above the motorway in the Lam Pla Thio subdistrict. Police and rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation rushed to the scene following reports of a serious crash involving a private vehicle. Emergency responders found a white Honda Freed, registration number from Bangkok, overturned and heavily damaged on its side in the leftmost lane of the two-lane road. One victim was found dead at the scene, crushed beneath the wreckage, while another was critically injured and later died despite emergency resuscitation efforts. The deceased were identified as Mr. Sirawit, 23 and Mr. Thanaphat, 22. Their bodies were transported to the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine for post-mortem examination. Three others sustained injuries including abrasions and suspected arm fractures. They were treated at the scene and then transported to Chularat 9 Hospital. The injured survivors were named as Mr. Sitthaphat, 22, Mr. Kittichai, 23, and Mr. Natthanan, 22. According to preliminary statements from the injured passengers, the group of five friends had been out drinking at a bar earlier that night. On their way home to Min Buri, while descending the motorway overpass, the vehicle encountered a flooded stretch of Chalong Krung Road. The slippery surface caused the driver to lose control. The car veered into the central reservation, vaulted across two lanes of opposing traffic and overturned. Police are currently waiting for the three injured survivors to recover sufficiently before questioning them further to determine who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. Legal proceedings will follow in accordance with the findings. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-06-07

  6. Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A 74-year-old man suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure has been missing for two days after venturing alone into the forested hills near his home to gather wood for making tool handles. Mr Chit, a resident of Ban Nong Pao Pi village in Sam Roi Yot district, Prachuap Khiri Khan, left home on the morning of 4 June to climb Huai Ta Chit Hill in Kui Buri National Park. He had reportedly gone to cut maha phrom wood, which he regularly uses to craft hoe handles for sale. According to his family, he usually returns home by evening, but on this occasion, he failed to do so. The disappearance triggered a large-scale search involving over 50 individuals, including park rangers, local officials, police officers from Sam Roi Yot Police Station, village leaders, volunteers, rescue personnel from Sawang Methee Thammasathan Foundation, and concerned villagers. The initial search found a cloth shoulder bag belonging to Mr Chit on the ground. Inside were food items including rice, bottled water, bread and snacks. Fearing he might return to the location, the bag was left untouched. Search teams then swept the surrounding area for several hours but were unable to locate him and had to call off efforts temporarily due to nightfall. The following day, the teams regrouped with fresh supplies and expanded their search radius from the spot where the bag was found. Despite nearly eight hours of continued searching, there was still no sign of the missing man. Authorities have since divided the operation into three separate teams to cover more ground and have appealed for additional support from other agencies. Mr Chit’s daughter, Ms Walaya, told reporters that her father had gone to collect wood as usual, but this time did not return. “We’ve searched for two days and still haven’t found him,” she said. “His saw and knife are also missing, so we think he took them with him.” She added that her father suffers from both diabetes and hypertension. His diabetes requires insulin injections administered to the abdomen rather than oral medication. “We are worried that he may have suffered a medical episode and is now unable to move or call for help,” she said tearfully. “Whatever has happened, we just want to find him, we’re praying that he is safe.” Authorities and local volunteers have pledged to continue search efforts until Mr Chit is found. 8. Picture courtesy of Matichon. A 48-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a sophisticated call centre scam in which a woman was deceived into undressing on a video call and ultimately transferring over 3 million baht to a criminal gang posing as law enforcement. Pol Maj Gen Witiya Sriprasertphap, commander of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), ordered the arrest of Mr. Alongkorn, who was detained in Soi Wat Phikun Ngoen, Bang Muang subdistrict, Bang Yai district, Nonthaburi province. The arrest followed a warrant issued by the Nonthaburi Provincial Court on 27 May 2025, charging him with fraud by impersonation, inputting false information into a computer system and allowing his bank account to be used in the commission of a crime. According to investigators, the victim initially received a phone call from individuals claiming to be officers from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI). The scammers accused her of involvement in drug trafficking and money laundering, warning that non-cooperation would result in prosecution. To gain her trust, the suspects sent what appeared to be official documents via a messaging app and instructed her to isolate herself in a hotel room for a “confidential investigation.” During a subsequent video call, the scammers alleged that the victim had engaged in sexual activity with a drug suspect and insisted she remove her clothing to allow a visual search for identifying marks, claiming it was part of the investigative process. The suspects then requested access to her financial records and instructed her to transfer money to various bank accounts for “verification.” Over time, the victim complied with 18 transfers to 14 different accounts, totalling 3.2 million baht. Investigators later traced one of the accounts to Mr. Alongkorn, who admitted during questioning that he had opened the account at the request of a friend, allegedly for a commission of 9,000 baht. He claimed he was unaware that it would be used for criminal purposes. Following the victim’s realisation that she had been scammed, she reported the incident to police, leading to a full investigation and the eventual arrest of Mr. Alongkorn. He has been transferred to Mueang Nonthaburi Police Station to face further legal proceedings. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-06-07

  10. Picture courtesy of Matichon. A man died in a fiery crash in the early hours of the morning of 6 June, after his CNG powered car collided with a road sign and exploded, trapping him inside as the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The incident occurred at approximately 03:10 near Ban Nong Nam Thip, about 600 metres from the Phahonyothin Road junction in Ban Mi district, Lopburi province. Police Lieutenant Chatree Sappayniyompong, deputy investigator at Mueang Lopburi Police Station and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered a car ablaze at the base of a roadside directional sign. Firefighters from the Khao Phrangam Subdistrict Municipality were quickly deployed and managed to extinguish the flames after a fierce blaze. Once the fire was under control, investigators inspected the burnt-out wreckage, which had been destroyed beyond recognition. Although the make and model were not immediately identifiable, it is believed to have been a BMW sedan. A scorched licence plate bearing only the numbers “8596” was recovered. The charred body of a man was found in the driver’s seat, burned beyond identification. No documentation or personal effects were found due to the intensity of the fire. Ms. Kanueng Ketbunjong, 54, who was staying overnight at a nearby farm, witnessed the horrifying sequence of events. She reported seeing the car travelling along Phahonyothin Road before making a sudden U-turn and accelerating loudly. “The car spun once, then crossed over to the opposite lane, revved the engine and crashed straight into the signpost,” she said. Moments later, the rear of the vehicle exploded into flames. Her husband attempted to douse the fire with an extinguisher but was unsuccessful and further explosions followed as the fire spread rapidly throughout the vehicle. Ms. Kanueng also noted that the road is a known hotspot for illegal street racing among local youths, with motorbikes and pickup trucks frequently using the stretch for high-speed contests. At the crash site, police discovered the vehicle’s rear window had been blown clear of the car and landed nearby. Investigators also found a gas tank installed in the car’s boot, along with several picnic-style butane canisters, suggesting that flammable materials may have intensified the blaze. Authorities have sent the body to Ananda Mahidol Hospital for forensic examination and are continuing their investigation to identify the victim and determine the exact cause of the incident. 12. Picture courtesy of Amarin. Four construction workers sustained serious injuries after a concrete wall collapsed onto them during a pile-driving operation at a large furniture store construction site near the railway road in the Soi Khao Talo area. The incident occurred at approximately 13:00 on 5 June. Emergency services from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Centre in Pattaya were swiftly dispatched to the scene following reports of a wall collapse with multiple casualties. Upon arrival, rescue workers discovered that a boundary wall belonging to a nearby residential property had caved in, falling into a 4-metre-deep foundation pit where workers were engaged in piling work. The collapse trapped four workers beneath heavy concrete debris. The injured include two Thai nationals and two Cambodian nationals, all of whom suffered severe injuries from the impact of falling rubble. Rescue personnel administered emergency first aid before rushing the victims to a nearby hospital. Mr Jesada, a fellow construction worker present at the site, recounted the terrifying moment. “The men were working in the pit while I was above ground. Suddenly, there was a loud crash like something heavy had fallen. When I looked down, I saw the wall had collapsed into the hole.” His account was corroborated by Mr Nirun, a backhoe operator working nearby. He explained, “I was digging near the pit when I heard the crash. I turned to see the wall had come down, burying the workers. I jumped in to help try to pull them out and called for more help immediately.” Preliminary investigations suggest that the collapse was caused by ground subsidence due to deep excavation work adjacent to the boundary wall. The site had no visible retaining structures to support the soil, which may have led to the earth shifting and pulling the wall down with it. Local civil engineering officers and Bang Lamung district officials have temporarily halted all construction activities at the site. An investigation has been launched. 14. Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A workplace incident claimed the life of a 48-year-old employee after he fell through a roof while attempting to carry out repairs at an electronics retail branch in Nang Rong District, Buriram Province. The victim, identified as Mr. Phisit, was a company driver who had volunteered to repair a leaking roof after recent rainfall had caused water to seep into the building. According to reports, Mr. Phisit climbed onto the roof alone to fix the problem but fell through a rotten wooden beam. The drop was approximately seven metres and his head struck the concrete floor below with fatal force. Emergency responders from Siam Ruamjai Pu-In Rescue Unit arrived swiftly at the scene and found Mr. Phisit lying in a pool of blood with one side of his skull collapsed. CPR was administered, and he was rushed to Nang Rong Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. An inspection of the site revealed a large hole in the corrugated metal roof and a broken wooden beam beneath it. The wood, believed to be weakened from prolonged exposure to rainwater, is thought to have given way under Mr. Phisit’s weight. Mr. Nichan a colleague, explained that the roof had been leaking for some time. “Phisit offered to go up and fix it himself. About 20 minutes later, we heard a loud noise and then saw him fall through the roof. He hit the ground headfirst,” he recounted. Authorities are investigating the incident, which raises serious concerns about workplace safety protocols. The company has not yet released an official statement. 16. Picture courtesy of Amarin. In response to rising tensions along Thailand’s land border, the Royal Thai Navy’s principal combat force, the Royal Thai Fleet, has been placed on heightened alert. Naval officers and personnel have been instructed to prepare for potential deployment and to uphold their duty in defending the nation and its people. On 5 June, Admiral Jiraphon Wongwit, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, delegated Admiral Natthaphon Diewwanich, Commander of the Royal Thai Fleet, to address naval forces aboard HTMS Chakri Naruebet at the Sattahip Naval Base. The speech was delivered in the presence of senior command officers from the army, navy and air force, who also oversaw a readiness inspection. Admiral Natthaphon stressed the importance of the navy’s role in safeguarding national sovereignty during periods of uncertainty. His address was particularly relevant given recent developments surrounding the land border dispute in the Chong Bok area of Ubon Ratchathani Province. While the Thai government remains committed to peaceful negotiations in line with international law, the Royal Thai Fleet stands ready to serve as a key strategic force should deterrent operations become necessary. “Our forces are fully prepared to form a long-range task force capable of proactive maritime operations. This includes establishing control of key sea routes and securing commercial and fishing vessels,” said Admiral Natthaphon. “If necessary, we can deny adversaries the use of the sea and engage hostile forces directly.” He further highlighted the strength of the long-range task force, trained in both domestic and international exercises such as Cobra Gold and Blue Strike, with partner nations. The task force includes strike craft units with anti-access capabilities, and amphibious warfare elements capable of deploying Marine units for joint operations with ground forces. “Operational planning must be carried out with precision,” the Admiral added. “This is not merely preparation for drills, it is preparation for potential deployment. Every ship’s captain and fleet commander must ensure the readiness of their personnel and equipment, including aviation units and special operations forces.” Emphasising discipline and dedication, Admiral Natthaphon urged all naval personnel to fully commit to their responsibilities. “Use the time available for preparation wisely. We must be ready to perform our duties at full capacity the moment we receive orders.” The Royal Thai Navy’s move to showcase its preparedness underlines Thailand’s commitment to peace through strength, ensuring it can support diplomatic negotiations with robust defensive capabilities. A Myanmar national working as a security guard at a high-speed railway construction site was found dead in suspicious circumstances beside a railway track in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province on evening of 5 June. Police and rescue officials were called to the scene near Ban Pho Railway Station in Bang Pa-in district, where they discovered the body of 40-year-old Mr Thein Zaw lying on his back in the grass beside track number three. Police reported that Mr Thein Zaw had a severe head wound at the back of his skull, approximately 15 centimetres long, with significant blood loss. A large rock stained with blood was found near the body and collected as evidence. The body was sent to Bang Pa-in Hospital for autopsy. Mr Thein Zaw was employed as a night-time security guard overseeing the electrical unit near the railway station for the high-speed rail project. According to a local resident, Ms Nueng, a colleague spotted Mr Thein Zaw’s body from the railway line. She stated that he had been seen alive earlier in the evening, purchasing items from a nearby convenience store. Another local, 44-year-old Mr Jek, told reporters that Mr Thein Zaw was often seen cycling between his workplace and residence, which was located not far from the scene. He also confirmed seeing the victim alive the previous evening. The owner of a local grocery shop, 44-year-old Ms Wipasiri, said Mr Thein Zaw was a regular customer. She recalled that he came to the shop on the evening at around 18:15, with two friends to buy alcohol. CCTV footage confirmed he was wearing the same clothes later found on his body. The victim’s supervisor arrived at the scene but declined to give a statement to the media. However, he noted that Mr Thein Zaw was not known to use the railway and questioned why he was found so far from his assigned post, raising suspicions about the circumstances of his death. Police are continuing their investigation and plan to interview the victim’s co-workers and others who may be connected to the case. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-06-06

At approximately 03:05, Pol. Col. Anek Srathongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, was alerted by Pattaya Special Affairs officers to a large group of foreign youths assembling at the skate park near Bali Hai Pier, South Pattaya, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. The group was reported to be heavily armed, prompting fears they may be preparing to cause a disturbance or engage in violence. Upon arrival, officers encountered 22 male individuals claiming to be of Cambodian, Burmese and Karen ethnic origin. A search of the area uncovered more than 10 concealed weapons, including sparta-style blades, sickle-like knives and homemade knives with black tape-wrapped handles. These were hidden around the skate park in what authorities believe was an attempt to avoid detection while preparing for a possible violent confrontation. Fortunately, the authorities were able to intervene in time, preventing any incidents from occurring. A preliminary check revealed that only a few of the individuals were able to produce valid identification documents. Ten motorcycles found at the scene were also seized for inspection. The group was taken into custody and transported to Pattaya City Police Station, their identities and legal status are being verified. Police are conducting background checks and processing the confiscated weapons and vehicles. Those found to be in violation of Thai law will face legal proceedings.
