  1. Prachinburi, more than 700 migrant workers gathered to protest at the entrance of a Chinese-owned factory in the Rojana Industrial Estate in Sri Maha Pho District, Prachinburi, after not receiving their wages for two months. The protest, which began on the evening of August 16, involved workers from Myanmar and Cambodia, who blocked access to the factory, preventing delivery trucks from entering or leaving. Only Thai nationals were allowed through the blockade. The workers, who have been employed to build a three-story structure within the factory complex, expressed their frustration after repeated delays in payment left them unable to pay rent or cover basic expenses. Despite being offered an initial payment of 500 baht each to ease their financial burden, the workers refused, citing a lack of trust after waiting for over two months without pay. The factory is reportedly owned by Chinese investors, and the workers were hired through a Chinese subcontractor overseeing the construction. According to reports, this subcontractor, along with ten other Chinese companies, is involved in the project. One of these companies has failed to pay its workers for three months, prompting the large-scale protest. The demonstration shows no signs of ending as workers demand full payment of their overdue wages. Negotiations between the workers and the factory management are ongoing. -- 2024-08-18 - Cigna offers a variety of health insurance plans designed to meet the minimum requirement for medical treatment coverage, with benefits reaching up to THB 3 million. 5. On August 16, a tragic incident occurred in Kanchanaburi province when a villager was killed by a wild elephant from the Salak Phra Wildlife Sanctuary. Another individual, a rescue worker, was injured while trying to guide responders to the scene. The victim, identified as 57-year-old Mr. Phatthaya, was attacked while gathering bamboo shoots in the forest near Moo 4, Dan Mae Chalaep subdistrict, Si Sawat district. He had reportedly gone fishing earlier and then ventured into the forest, unaware of the presence of a wild elephant. The elephant attacked him with such force that he died instantly. His body was later found lying amidst bamboo shoots with severe internal injuries. After receiving the report, local authorities, including the sanctuary’s head Mr. Phaitoon Intharabut, coordinated with police, medical staff, and rescue teams. They headed to the site to retrieve the body. During this effort, a rescue worker was also attacked by another wild elephant that had not been noticed. Fortunately, the rescue worker, Mr. Chingchai, survived the encounter and was treated at the hospital for his injuries. The area where the incident occurred is known for its high population of wild elephants, who frequently travel to drink water from the nearby Srinakarin Dam reservoir. However, the attack took place during the day, a time when villagers typically do not expect elephant encounters. This tragic event highlights the dangers of human-elephant conflicts in areas where wildlife and local communities coexist. -- 2024-08-18 - Cigna offers a variety of health insurance plans designed to meet the minimum requirement for medical treatment coverage, with benefits reaching up to THB 3 million. 22. Picture from responders On the 17 August, at 03:55 the Phayathai Fire and Rescue Station received a call regarding a car fire at the 10-story parking building of Phra Mongkutklao Hospital on Ratchawithi Road, Thung Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi District. Emergency crews on arrival found the first car well ablaze, with the fire having spread to a second car. The affected parking level and the ones above it, were starting to fill with dense black smoke, but the car park was not very busy with only a few cars parked there at that time of morning. Responders worked to extinguish the flames, using the car parks’ own fire main system, to supply the water hose-lines to confine the fire from spreading any further. After 30 minutes the fire was successfully extinguished, with two cars having been badly damaged by fire and two other cars damaged by heat and flame. Thankfully there were no reported injuries and the lack of parked cars may have helped prevent, what could have been a possibly larger more serious incident. The fire is currently under investigation as officials work to determine the cause of the fire, and the type of vehicle involved. -- 2024-08-17 - Cigna offers a variety of health insurance plans designed to meet the minimum requirement for medical treatment coverage, with benefits reaching up to THB 3 million. The man, a Russian national aged 30-35, was spotted pacing anxiously on the 6th-floor balcony. Emergency responders deployed a giant air cushion on the ground as a precaution. Officers spent three hours trying to calm him down, but negotiations ultimately failed. Suddenly, the man became agitated again.
