Update No Conclusion Yet on Caustic Soda as Cause of Death for Mother and Two Daughters Picture of the bottle reported to contain caustic soda The investigation into the tragic deaths of a 60-year-old female police lieutenant and her two daughters, aged 34 and 25, in a bathroom in Mueang District, Chonburi, continues. Initially, it was suspected that the cause of death might have been the effects of caustic soda, as the victims were found with frothing at the mouth and bluish lips and nails. A strong odor of caustic soda was detected inside the house. In the latest developments, forensic experts were at the scene to gather evidence. They meticulously collected fingerprints from various locations within the house, including a bottle of drain cleaner found at the scene. Authorities have cordoned off the area to prevent anyone from entering, concerned about the potential dangers posed by lingering toxic substances. Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased entered the home to rescue ten cats that were being kept there. All of the cats were safely removed and will be cared for by family members. Later, Police Major General Chatchai Surachetpong, Deputy Commissioner of Region 2 Police, visited the scene to inspect the drain cleaner bottle personally. He ordered a thorough investigation into the source and composition of the cleaner before allowing further access to the house. Maj. Gen. Chatchai commented after the inspection, stating that it is possible the victims were exposed to harmful substances in the drain cleaner. He emphasised that a detailed timeline of events is being established, and more time is needed to determine whether any additional factors were involved. At present, no clear motive has been identified. Samples of the cleaning substance are being analysed to determine their components and whether they were legally available for purchase. Two police officers at the scene also exhibited symptoms of nausea and dizziness and have been sent to the hospital for medical evaluation. Associate Professor Dr. Weerachai Phutthawong, a chemistry professor at the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science at Kasetsart University, expressed skepticism about the initial assumption that caustic soda alone caused the deaths. He noted that sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) does not emit a strong odor but is highly corrosive. Death from inhalation of this substance alone is unlikely. However, Dr. Weerachai added, “If caustic soda is mixed with other chemicals, such as bathroom cleaner or bleach, it can trigger a chemical reaction that produces a strong, pungent odor. In a confined space like a bathroom, inhaling large quantities of such fumes could lead to unconsciousness or death.” -- 2024-08-12 - Cigna offers a variety of health insurance plans designed to meet the minimum requirement for medical treatment coverage, with benefits reaching up to THB 3 million. Police Officer and Her Two Daughters Found Dead in Bathroom A female police officer, along with her two daughters, was found dead in the bathroom of their home. The cause of death is suspected to be exposure to caustic soda. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1335324-police-officer-and-her-two-daughters-found-dead-in-bathroom/ -
Picture of the scene. A tragic incident has occurred, where a female police officer, along with her two daughters, was found dead in the bathroom of their home. The cause of death is suspected to be exposure to caustic soda. At around 13:00 PM on August 12, Police Lieutenant Kajphasut Prowatsirigul, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) at Mueang Chonburi Police Station, received a report of an incident at a residence in Bang Pla Soi Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chonburi. Upon being informed, Police Colonel Supharuk Yuiprai, Superintendent of Mueang Chonburi Police Station, proceeded to the scene with medical staff from Chonburi Hospital and rescuers from the Thammarat Mani Rattanathorn Foundation. The incident took place at a two-story police officer’s residence at Mueang Chonburi Police Station. Inside the ground-floor bathroom, the bodies of three females were found lying together. The deceased were identified as a 60-year-old female Police Lieutenant Colonel (mother), Ms. J, 34 (eldest daughter), and Ms. P, 25 (youngest daughter). All were found with foaming at the mouth, bluish lips, and nails. Rescue workers and medical personnel attempted to resuscitate them, but the three ultimately succumbed to the effects of the caustic soda. A strong odor of caustic soda permeated the residence, and the police prohibited anyone from entering the premises. According to an inquiry by Police Colonel Supharuk Yuiprai, a close friend of the eldest daughter, revealed that she had visited her friend the previous day at 15:00, after earlier that morning, the mother, had asked her to buy caustic soda to pour down the clogged bathroom drain. The friend, on August 12, found no one responding to her calls, so she went to the home to check and on opening the bathroom door, discovered the three bodies lying together. She immediately sought help from a neighbour. The police have initially sent the bodies for autopsy at Chonburi Hospital to determine whether caustic soda was present in their stomachs, which will help ascertain whether the incident was accidental or intentional. Investigators will also question close colleagues of the deceased to determine if there were any unresolved issues or personal problems that the deceased might have confided in. A close colleague of the deceased, mentioned that the Lt. Col. was due to retire next month, in September, and was known to deeply love her daughters. The colleague expressed disbelief that she would take her own life. The colleague was unaware of any personal debts or financial issues. It is speculated that the officer may have poured caustic soda into the bathroom drain and closed the door. The younger daughter might have entered the bathroom, inhaling the caustic soda fumes and losing consciousness. The mother and older sister could have entered the bathroom to assist, but also succumbed to the fumes, leading to the tragic outcome. However, the exact cause of death will be determined pending further autopsy results from Chonburi Hospital. -- 2024-08-12 - Cigna offers a variety of health insurance plans designed to meet the minimum requirement for medical treatment coverage, with benefits reaching up to THB 3 million. Suspicious Suitcases Spark Public Concerns in Sattahip Two suspicious suitcases abandoned under a pedestrian bridge along Sukhumvit Road, caused concerns, as there were fears that the suitcases could contain explosives. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1335323-suspicious-suitcases-spark-public-concerns-in-sattahip/ -
Picture of the scene. On the evening of August 12, at approximately 17:00 Police Colonel Thanaphon Klinkesorn, the Superintendent of Sattahip Police Station in Chonburi Province, received a report about two suspicious suitcases abandoned under a pedestrian bridge along Sukhumvit Road, in front of a department store in Sattahip. The discovery caused concerns among the public, as there were fears that the suitcases could contain explosives. Upon receiving the report, police officers and investigative teams immediately arrived at the scene, cordoning off the area. They requested support from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the Royal Thai Navy’s Ordnance Department to conduct a thorough inspection. The scene attracted a crowd of onlookers who gathered to witness the unfolding situation. Eyewitnesses reported that they had noticed the suitcases being left unattended for several hours. Initially, they assumed the owner would return to collect them. However, as time passed and the suitcases remained in place, concerns grew that they might contain explosives, prompting the call to the police. As the EOD unit was en route to the scene, a young woman emerged from the department store and identified herself as the owner of the suitcases. The police conducted a search of the bags and found only clothing and personal items inside. The woman expressed shock at the incident, explaining that she had left the suitcases under the pedestrian bridge while waiting for a friend to pick her up. She had then gone into the department store to pass the time. She was alarmed to see police investigating what turned out to be her own luggage. The woman apologised for the confusion and the disruption caused by the incident. -- 2024-08-12 - Cigna offers a variety of health insurance plans designed to meet the minimum requirement for medical treatment coverage, with benefits reaching up to THB 3 million. Fire at Factory Near Chaiyo District, Sing Buri
Georgealbert replied to Georgealbert's topic in Central Thailand News
Update. The Sing Buri Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has provided an update on the ongoing firefighting efforts at the Singha Paratech wood factory fire, which broke out on Sunday, August 11, as it has continued to burn, and efforts to fully control the blaze have been challenging. Monday, August 12, 12.00, the fire has yet to be completely extinguished, with smoke still rising from some of the wood piles. Firefighters from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center Region 16, Chai Nat, have been working tirelessly throughout the night, attempting to keep the fire under control by continuously spraying water. Without these measures, the fire could easily reignite at any moment. Local responders will again take over in the afternoon of August 12. The situation is being closely monitored, and the investigation into the cause of the fire continues.. -
Sorry not qualified enough to offer expert opinion, as my knowledge is on the risks, hazards and emergency response, and no experience as a gas fitter. But I would say that general safety guidances do seem to have been followed, the cylinder is outside and looks in good condition. There is a shut off both outside and inside, which I assume are easy to access. Someone else raised the quality of the pipe work, which needs to be checked for corrosion. So yes seems far safer that having the cylinder under/next to the cooker. LPG is safe if used properly, with quality equipment, which if fitted correctly and maintained. What is strange about this incident, is that if an LPG leak is burning, it is normally safe providing the flame are not onto the cylinder or likely to set anything else on fire. With the leak burning the gas is not escaping or building up and is never going to reach a gas/air explosive mixture. The witnesses above said they saw flames at the cylinder, but did not say if they extinguished those flames. When a leak is not burning and starts to fill a poorly ventilated space , that is when there is a possibility of it building into an explosive atmosphere, that just needs any ignition source to go bang. The other explosion risk is BLEVE, which requires direct heat or flame onto the cylinder. The heat then causes the liquid to boil quicker , giving off more vapour, so expanding and increasing the pressure in the cylinder, until it gets too much and can explode. Most LPG cylinders have a pressure release valve fitted, and if this operates and gives off a high pitch whistle, that is an indication that a BLEVE is possible and it is time to get far away. For a cylinder to BLEVE you should know that you have a problem, as the area around the cylinder will be on fire.

This factory, which had ceased operations due to bankruptcy, was under the supervision of the Enforcement Office, and had experienced previous smaller fires on August 10, and earlier at 10.00 on the morning of August 11. It is not known if the morning’s fire reignited, or this was a new fire, but it started outside of the building and spread inside, spreading to the large amount of stored wood. During the evening the blaze had yet to be fully contained due to the large amount of accumulated flammable material. Investigators from the Phrom Buri Police Station arrived at the scene to examine the cause of the fire. Pictures from responders -

August 11, tragedy struck in Lampang Province when an 81-year-old man riding an electric tricycle was killed instantly after being hit by a sedan. The accident occurred at approximately 10:00, along the Lampang-Ngao Road in front of the Military Student Training Centre in Phichai Subdistrict, Mueang District. The local emergency response centre and the Lampang Provincial Police were notified of the accident, which involved a collision between a sedan and an electric tricycle. Police Lieutenant Athit Songpornweerawat from Mueang Lampang Police Station, along with rescue teams from Lampang Rescue Association and Ton Thongchai Rescue Association, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found a black Honda City sedan, with a Bangkok license plate, severely damaged at the front and with a cracked windshield. In front of the sedan was a blue electric tricycle that had been hit from behind. The sole victim, identified as Retired Lieutenant Thuan, 81, a former military officer and resident of Raisilathong Village, Phichai Subdistrict, was found slumped over in the tricycle's seat, having died instantly from the impact. Rescue workers used hydraulic cutters to retrieve the victim's body from the wrecked tricycle. The body was then sent to Lampang Hospital’s forensic department for an autopsy.. Police inspected the scene, finding skid marks about 10 metres long, along with the victim’s cane and dentures scattered nearby. The 27-year-old driver of the sedan stated that he was leaving a nearby hotel and heading to Surasak Montri Military Camp in Lampang. Less than a kilometre from his starting point, the electric tricycle suddenly swerved across lanes directly in front of his car. Unable to stop in time, he collided with the tricycle, resulting in the fatal accident. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the accident and will proceed with legal measures as necessary. -- 2024-08-11 - Cigna offers a variety of health insurance plans designed to meet the minimum requirement for medical treatment coverage, with benefits reaching up to THB 3 million. Clearly you have little knowledge of emergency response. LPG is transported as a liquid, so hence it is under pressure, so when a leak of LPG occurs it expands about 270 times its volume as a liquid. If you spill gasoline it will just runs over the ground, does not expand. Yes both are flammable, with the flammable range of LPG being between 1.5% and 9.6% and gasoline is between 1.4% to 7.6%. Gasoline is lighter than air, so the vapour will rise and disperse. LOG is heavier than air, so sinks and travel great distances before it will disperse in air. It will also flow into any low level opening, such as drains, conduits, basements, etc, so posing a possible additional fire and explosion risks. The BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion) risk for LPG is far greater, as LPG has a boiling point of -42°C, where as gasoline is 35 °C. The ERG (emergency response guidebook) recommended evacuation distance for a tanker fire, LPG is 1600m where for gasoline it is half that at 800m. A few facts, that shows the risk of LPG is greater than gasoline.
