  2. UPDATE Duo Caught in Bangkok After Chaotic Temple Shooting Picture courtesy of Khoasod. Two men have been arrested in a dramatic police operation in central Bangkok, following a brazen shooting at a religious festival in Nakhon Sawan province that left three bystanders injured. The suspects, identified as Mr Sakda, 29, known by the alias “Men”, and Mr Phuthondit, 41, alias “Golf”, were apprehended on the morning of 17 April at a condominium in Huamark. The condo was rented by Golf’s wife, who had reportedly been sheltering the men. The pair stand accused of attempted murder after they allegedly opened fire into a crowded Songkran celebration at Wat Krok Phra Nuea in Krok Phra district. CCTV footage captured the suspects arriving on a motorcycle, firing into the crowd gathered near a music stage, and then fleeing the scene on foot before being picked up by an accomplice, identified as “Mr Singh”, in a pickup truck. According to police, Mr Singh and several associates are believed to have played a role in facilitating the escape and may face charges for aiding the fugitives. Surveillance footage shows Singh’s truck positioned near a canal bridge approximately 200 metres from the rear of the temple, where the suspects fled after the shooting. Police escorted Men and Golf back to Krok Phra Police Station where they were questioned. Officers reported that both men appeared stoic, showing no signs of remorse. During interrogation, Golf claimed the shooting was provoked after a rival group, with whom they had past animosity, allegedly threw a bottle at them during the festival. After being expelled from the temple grounds, they regrouped at the bridge and returned on a motorbike armed with a shotgun that had been stashed in Singh’s vehicle. Golf admitted to being heavily intoxicated at the time. During the transfer of the suspects back to the police station, tensions flared as relatives of the injured victims clashed verbally with the suspects’ family members. A physical altercation was narrowly avoided thanks to swift intervention by patrol officers. Both Men and Golf face charges of attempted murder and additional offences under Thailand’s firearms laws, including possession and discharge of a firearm in a public area. Police say investigations are ongoing, and all parties involved, including Mr Singh and his associates, will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. In the wake of the violence, temple authorities cancelled all remaining Songkran festivities and the annual novice ordination ceremony. Only the essential Buddhist rituals will continue. Mr Wallop Julsri, a representative of Wat Krok Phra Nuea, expressed deep regret over the incident and confirmed the temple committee will seek 300,000 baht in damages. Formal proceedings are expected once the police complete the initial criminal investigations. -- 2025-04-19

  4. Picture from responders. A 25-year-old delivery rider was killed in a devastating hit-and-run incident in the early hours of the morning of 18 April, in Lam Luk Ka district, Pathum Thani province. The young man was initially struck by an unidentified vehicle before being fatally run over by a car that followed shortly after. Police were alerted to the scene around 03:30 on Phahonyothin 86 Road, inbound towards Saphan Mai. Pol. Lt. Wimon Sombun, investigator with Khu Khot Police Station, arrived at the scene accompanied by emergency medical staff and Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers. The victim, identified as Mr Suddan, was found lying face-up in front of the Farm Chokchai company premises. He had suffered catastrophic head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Personal items including cash, a wristwatch, and documents were discovered nearby. Roughly 100 metres away, authorities found a damaged motorcycle registered in Bangkok. Also at the scene was a Honda sedan, its hazard lights flashing and its front bumper nearly detached. The driver, Mr Ek 37, told police he was unaware he had run over a person. “I was driving behind another car. I saw something lying on the road but didn’t realise it was a body. I only noticed a fallen motorcycle, so I pulled over. I didn’t witness the initial incident,” said Mr Ek, who works as a Bolt ride-hailing driver and was en route to pick up a passenger in Khlong 1, heading to Wongwian Yai. Ms Piyanuch 26, who was travelling with a different Bolt driver, that had the first collision, said she heard a loud impact during the journey and asked the driver what had happened. “He said he hit a person, then stopped the car. A second car hit the man again. I couldn’t just leave. I saw the rider had died, and the driver I was with fled the scene, even though I had already paid the fare.” A security guard stationed outside a nearby building, Mr Salaphon 30, reported hearing the initial crash. “I turned to look and saw a sedan hit something in the road.” Pol. Lt. Wimon confirmed an investigation is underway. Officers have collected photographic evidence at the scene and questioned the Honda driver further at Khu Khot Police Station. The victim’s body has been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police investigations are ongoing, as they work to locate the first Bolt driver and notify the deceased’s relatives so funeral arrangements can be made. -- 2025-04-19

  6. Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A senior monk in the historic province of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya is facing possible dismissal following a bizarre incident in which over 1,000 rotten eggs were allegedly dumped near a resident’s home amid an ongoing dispute. The incident, which took place in the Pratu Chai subdistrict, has drawn widespread attention after local residents accused Phra Athikan Sucharoen, the abbot, of deliberately discarding the rotting eggs next to a private home. The alleged motive stems from a long-standing conflict over a garage structure built by the homeowner, which reportedly extended beyond the property line into temple grounds. Officials from multiple agencies, including Phra Wachirophas, the district ecclesiastical head and abbot of Wat Sala Pun Worawihan; Ms. Sukanya Baonerd, Director of Fine Arts Office 3 Ayutthaya; and Ms. Sukanya Iamsittipornkul, Acting Director of the Department of Public Health, arrived at the site alongside officials from the Treasury Department to investigate the matter. According to neighbours, the foul-smelling remains of the eggs appeared shortly after the dispute intensified. Witnesses claim the eggs were intentionally discarded by Phra Athikan Sucharoen as a form of retaliation against the homeowner. When approached by officials, Phra Athikan Sucharoen reportedly responded with hostility, verbally confronting Phra Wachirophas and accusing him of accepting bribes from local residents to side against the temple. The altercation quickly drew attention, prompting officials to intervene and de-escalate tensions. Following the confrontation, the homeowner agreed to dismantle the portion of the garage that encroached on temple land. However, the incident has left a sour impression among locals, many of whom have expressed frustration with what they describe as longstanding issues involving the abbot’s behaviour. “The actions of Phra Athikan Sucharoen have repeatedly caused problems within the community,” said Phra Wachirophas. “We will be reviewing this matter seriously, and disciplinary measures , including his possible removal as abbot, are under consideration. The case will also be forwarded to the provincial monastic council for further review.” -- 2025-04-19

  8. Pictures from responders. A horrifying scene unfolded in the early hours of the morning of 18 April, when a BMW SUV was found engulfed in flames beside Thung Burapha sports ground in Ubon Ratchathani. Fire crews discovered a man’s charred body inside the vehicle, with reports indicating the presence of a charcoal stove in the driver’s footwell. Police received the emergency call at around 00:30 and officers from Mueang Ubon Ratchathani Police Station, along with fire services from multiple local agencies and nearby rescue units, were immediately dispatched to the scene in the Nong Khon Subdistrict. The BMW, found without registration plates, was ablaze in a wooded area adjacent to the sports complex. Firefighters battled the flames for over 30 minutes before managing to extinguish the fire. Initial inspection revealed the vehicle had crashed into an embankment near a drainage canal before catching fire, resulting in the complete destruction of the car. Inside the driver’s seat, responders discovered the body of an unidentified man, burned beyond recognition. A charcoal stove was found on the floor of the vehicle, raising concerns that the fire may have been intentionally started inside the cabin. Investigators contacted forensic specialists from Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital and local detectives to assist at the scene. By tracing the car’s chassis number, police determined the vehicle was previously registered in Bangkok and had once been owned by a woman identified only as Ms. Uthaiwan, who confirmed she had sold the car several years ago in an unregistered transfer. The current owner and victim remain unidentified. Authorities have not yet determined whether the incident was an accident or suicide. Due to the severe burning of the body, the remains will be sent to Bangkok for forensic examination to establish identity and determine the precise cause of death. A local resident, 19-year-old Mr. Apinan, told reporters he witnessed the vehicle swerving erratically shortly before the fire broke out. He recalled a black pickup truck following closely behind and sounding its horn repeatedly, possibly attempting to warn the driver. Minutes later, fire engines and rescue units rushed into the area. Investigations are ongoing, with police appealing for anyone with information about the vehicle or the deceased to come forward. -- 2025-04-19

  10. Picture from responders. Two emergency medical staff were injured on the night of 17 April, after a white sedan crashed into their ambulance at a dark intersection in Phetchaburi province, flipping the emergency vehicle onto its side. The incident occurred around 23:00, at the Khan Khlong Suea intersection in Ban Mo Subdistrict, Mueang Phetchaburi District. Responding officers from the local police found the emergency vehicle from Kaeng Krachan Hospital overturned on its side in the middle of the road. Inside the ambulance were two trapped individuals: a female emergency medical technician and a male driver. Both sustained injuries and were later rescued by members of the Sawang Sanphet Dhammasathan Foundation and transported to Phra Chom Klao Hospital for treatment. Nearby, officers located the white car involved in the collision, damaged at the front. The driver, identified as Mr Itthiphon, was unharmed. He told police that he had been driving alone from Khlong Suea Road towards central Phetchaburi when the crash occurred. He claimed the area was poorly lit and that he had not seen the intersection before ploughing directly into the side of the ambulance. At the time of the incident, the ambulance had been en route from Kaeng Krachan Hospital to collect a patient from Phra Chom Klao Hospital. The journey was abruptly halted by the high-impact collision. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and will determine whether further legal action will be taken against the driver of the sedan. -- 2025-04-19
  11. Minister Anutin Reports Decrease in Deaths During Songkran, Urges Year-Round Vigilance Pictures courtesy of DDPM. Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has reported a significant decrease in road crashes, injuries, and fatalities during this year’s Songkran holiday period, crediting an integrated and proactive road safety campaign. Speaking at the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), he stressed the need for continued efforts to ensure road safety across the country year-round. 12. Pictures courtesy of DDPM. Between 11 and 17 April, the seven-day intensive campaign period, the government recorded 1,538 road crashes, resulting in 1,495 injuries and 253 deaths. These figures reflect a notable improvement compared to previous years. Motorcycles were involved in over 84% of all incidents, with excessive speed and drink-driving identified as the primary causes. Minister Anutin emphasised the collaborative efforts between national and local agencies, including traffic police, public health departments, and local volunteers. The strategy included increased roadside checks, rapid deployment safety units, zoning of high-risk areas, and the use of mobile units replacing static checkpoints. These targeted operations at Songkran event zones and water-play areas reportedly helped deter risky behaviour. He praised the dedication of all frontline personnel and urged agencies to continue their vigilance beyond the holiday period. “While the Songkran safety campaign has concluded, the mission to protect lives on Thailand’s roads must continue,” Anutin said. He called on authorities at every level to analyse accident data and adjust local strategies accordingly. There will be a continued focus on reducing key risk factors such as speeding and failure to use safety gear, especially among motorcyclists. Deputy Interior Minister Songsak Thongsri, chairing the Road Safety Subcommittee, echoed these sentiments. He urged all sectors to address motorcycle accidents and dangerous driving behaviour, such as speeding and alcohol consumption, through law enforcement and sustained public awareness campaigns. He also highlighted the importance of promoting safe vehicle use, driver education, and expanding insurance coverage. DDPM Director-General Phasakorn Boonyalak urged all provinces to review accident data and challenges encountered during the campaign, and to propose actionable improvements. He also encouraged the public to take responsibility for their own safety, avoid high-risk behaviour, and adhere to traffic laws to reduce future tragedies. On 17 April alone, 147 road crashes were reported, resulting in 145 injuries and 22 deaths. Most incidents occurred on straight roads, with highways and rural roads being the most dangerous. The worst-hit province that day was Phatthalung, which recorded the highest number of accidents (11) and injuries (11), while Nakhon Si Thammarat had the highest number of fatalities (3). Among the most affected demographic were those aged 20 to 29, accounting for nearly 18% of injuries and deaths. Key accident periods included 18:00 –21:00, 09:00 –noon, and 15:00 –18:00. Six provinces, Nakhon Nayok, Phichit, Phuket, Ranong, Satun, and Sing Buri – recorded no fatalities during the entire campaign. However, Phatthalung reported the highest total number of crashes (63) and injuries (61). Authorities reaffirm their commitment to the national goal of reducing road traffic fatalities to fewer than 12 deaths per 100,000 people, in line with global safety benchmarks. 14. Picture courtesy of Kaoded. A 40-year-old man is in hospital after reportedly swallowing around 100 methamphetamine pills in a desperate attempt to evade arrest. The dramatic incident unfolded in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province, when local police spotted the man acting suspiciously in a sedan parked at the roadside. The officers, Sergeant Major Papawin Tamueang and Sergeant Major Siriwit Dettawee-Chot, were on routine patrol along Suvarnabhumi Road 3 when they noticed the vehicle. As they approached, the driver suddenly sped away, prompting a police pursuit through the area. The chase continued until the vehicle was cornered near the entrance of Soi Manthana on outbound Theparak Road at kilometre marker 17. Trapped by traffic ahead, the suspect attempted to flee on foot, opening the left-side door and bolting from the vehicle. However, officers quickly apprehended him. In a shocking turn of events, as police were making the arrest, the man, later identified as Mr Metha, aged 40, grabbed a bundle of over 100 methamphetamine pills and began frantically chewing and swallowing them. Despite police shouting for him to spit out the pills, fearing he might overdose, Mr Metha continued to ingest them. Moments later, he began showing signs of severe distress, including cold sweats and signs of shock. Emergency medical services were immediately called to the scene. Mr Metha was rushed to Bang Sao Thong Hospital, where he remains under police custody and medical supervision. He now faces further legal proceedings related to drug possession and resisting arrest. According to police records, Mr Metha has a history of drug-related offences, having been prosecuted on four previous occasions. Sergeant Major Papawin Tamueang stated, “When we approached the car, the suspect suddenly drove off. Once cornered, he tried to dispose of the drugs by swallowing them, likely in a panic. Fortunately, we were able to get him medical help in time.” Authorities are continuing their investigation. -- 2025-04-17

  16. Picture courtesy of CH3. In a story that has touched many hearts across the nation, a mother from Phitsanulok has turned unimaginable grief into a powerful act of love, compassion, and hope. Ms Waripin, 31, from Plai Chumphon Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phitsanulok, made the decision to donate the organs of her 14-year-old son following a fatal road collision during the Songkran holiday. Her son, Thanawit, known as “Poom”, lost his life after a collision in the early hours of 15 April. Poom had been helping push a motorcycle across a central road divider with two friends in Tha Thong Subdistrict when a pickup truck crashed into them. His two friends, also aged 14, died instantly at the scene. Poom sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Buddhachinaraj Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU with severe brain trauma. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries. In the midst of sorrow, Ms Waripin made a courageous decision that has since been widely praised. She agreed to donate her son’s organs, his kidneys and corneas, giving new life and hope to four patients in need. The donation was facilitated by the hospital’s organ donation centre and later commended by the hospital’s official Facebook page. Speaking with deep emotion, Ms Waripin recounted her final conversations with her son. On 13 April, Poom had asked for permission to celebrate Songkran with friends. She kept in contact with him throughout the holiday, even inviting him to join the family celebration on 14 April. Poom had promised he would return to celebrate with her on the 15th, even offering to bring his friends along, but he never made it back. Just after 01:00 on 15 April, Ms Waripin received a call from one of Poom’s friends using his phone, informing her of the crash. She rushed to the scene and then to the hospital, where she was told that Poom’s chances of survival were just 50/50. Faced with the possibility of losing her only son, she was approached by the hospital’s organ donation team and, with a mother’s strength, made the decision to allow his body to help others. “If my son’s body can bring breath to someone else, I am willing,” she said. “I want him to receive the greatest merit before he departs this world.” Later that day, Poom passed away peacefully. His kidneys and corneas were donated to the Thai Red Cross Society, where they were matched with four patients desperately awaiting transplants. “Although I lost my son, I’m proud that he gave the gift of life to others,” Ms Waripin said through tears. “I believe this great merit will guide him to a better place. Though he is gone, he has left behind something truly good in this world. -- 2025-04-17

  18. Picture of the victim courtesy of Komchadluek A 40-year-old woman has been seriously injured after being viciously attacked by a pit bull cross she had adopted from a local animal shelter. The incident occurred near Wat Kai Tia temple in Wang Yang subdistrict, Si Prachan district of Suphan Buri province at around 10:30 on 17 April. Rescue services from the Sameu Kan Foundation rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call reporting a dog attack. The woman, Ms. Sutharat, was found lying in a pool of blood behind the abbot’s quarters at the temple. She had sustained deep lacerations to both arms and hands, with some wounds exposing bone. She was given first aid at the scene before being transferred to Sri Prachan Hospital and later referred to Chao Phraya Yommarat Hospital due to the severity of her injuries. Investigators found that the dog, a male pit bull and American bully cross named “Copper,” had been kept in a converted storage room behind the abbot’s quarters. Blood-stained dog toys were found scattered around the improvised kennel. The dog was sedated and temporarily removed by livestock officials following the attack. Mr. Anan, the victim’s father, explained that his daughter, an avid dog lover, had adopted the dog from a shelter. Copper had originally been rehomed to someone in Samut Prakan province, but was returned due to aggressive behaviour and size. Ms. Sutharat, sympathising with the animal, took him back into her care. “She regularly took him for exercise and was putting him back in his enclosure when the attack happened,” Mr. Anan said. “She loved that dog, but now I don’t think I can let her care for aggressive breeds anymore.” Phra Khru Sukitjanurak, the abbot of Wat Kai Tia and local ecclesiastical head of Wang Yang subdistrict, revealed that the same dog had bitten him less than three weeks earlier, breaking his arm and requiring nine stitches. “She found the dog at the shelter and took pity on it,” the abbot said. “I warned her that it was a large and potentially dangerous breed. After my own injury, I suggested she find someone else to adopt it.” He recounted the moment of the latest attack: “I heard screaming and saw the dog biting her arms, trying to reach her neck. I shouted for her to stay calm and then banged on metal sheeting to scare the dog off. It finally stopped, and we called for help.” The abbot issued a warning to the public about adopting stray or rescued dogs. “We may love and feel compassion for them, but if we haven’t raised them from a young age, they can be unpredictable. The risk is real.” Authorities are now assessing Copper’s future, while the incident has reignited debates over the safety of adopting mixed-breed or powerful dogs from shelters. -- 2025-04-17

An incident has claimed the life of a 72-year-old retired mechanic who was working underneath a car outside his home in Taling Chan, Bangkok, when the jack supporting the vehicle collapsed. The man, who had often carried out repairs on the same car, was found dead under the vehicle late evening on 17 April. At approximately 22:00, Lieutenant Atchai Nuimat, a duty investigator from Taling Chan Police Station, received reports of the incident on Chaiyaphruek Road. He responded to the scene along with forensic officers from Siriraj Hospital and rescue workers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation. Upon arrival, emergency responders found the deceased man pinned beneath a blue Ford car, registration number from Nonthaburi. The right front wheel had been removed, and the vehicle was resting precariously. Rescue personnel had to use cutting and lifting equipment to extract the body from beneath the car. The victim had suffered injuries to both his head and body. His 47-year-old wife told officers that her husband, a former car mechanic, regularly worked on the vehicle outside their home. She would usually sit nearby to assist him, especially considering his age. She said she had warned him several times about the risks of using the jack improperly, fearing that it might one day collapse. The incident occurred while no one else was around, and the man remained trapped for an extended period before being discovered. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination at Siriraj Hospital, and police are continuing their investigation. The family has been left devastated, with his wife and children visibly distraught at the scene. -- 2025-04-17

The suspect, 30-year-old Mr. Phantawat, was arrested shortly after the incident and has confessed to the killing. The fatal shooting took place at a residence in Samakkhi subdistrict, Loeng Nok Tha district, Yasothon province. Police and forensic officers, accompanied by rescue services and medical personnel, responded to an emergency call reporting a shooting. Upon arrival, they found the body of a young woman lying face up inside the house with multiple gunshot wounds to her face, hip, and leg. Several .380 calibre bullet casings were recovered at the scene. The victim’s grieving family identified the shooter as her boyfriend, Mr. Phantawat, who fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Investigators launched a manhunt and later apprehended the suspect at his home in Som Pho subdistrict, Thai Charoen district, Yasothon. He was found in possession of the firearm used in the crime and taken into custody for questioning. During interrogation, Mr. Phantawat admitted to the murder, stating that his girlfriend had recently left him due to repeated instances of physical abuse, stemming from his extreme jealousy. The couple had reportedly been in a relationship for over a year, but frequent quarrels and violent outbursts from the suspect had driven the woman to return to her family home. “I tried to reconcile with her all night,” the suspect said. “But when she tried to leave the house around 5 a.m. to go to a relative’s nearby, I lost control. I followed her and shot her until the magazine was empty, then ran back to my house.” Neighbours confirmed the couple’s troubled relationship, describing frequent fights, especially over the man’s possessiveness and fear that his partner would leave him for someone else. “We often heard shouting and saw bruises on her,” one resident said. “This morning, we heard gunshots, a woman scream ‘ouch!’, and then more shots. Then it went quiet.” Police have sent the victim’s body for a post-mortem examination and have charged Mr. Phantawat with murder and firearms offences. -- 2025-04-17
