A grisly scene unfolded in Bangkok’s Khlong Sam Wa district on the evening of 30 May when police discovered the bodies of a young couple in a house that also operated as a fruit and vegetable trading business. Police from Min Buri Station were alerted to the incident at around 21:15. Upon arrival at a two-storey home in a residential estate in the Nimit Mai area, officers, accompanied by forensic specialists and rescue teams from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, found the body of a woman in the kitchen on the ground floor. The female victim, believed to be around 21 years old, was found lying on her back with multiple stab wounds to her torso, chest, and neck. Upstairs, police discovered the body of a man, identified as the woman’s boyfriend, in the bedroom. He had reportedly hanged himself with a rope, suggesting a possible murder-suicide. Authorities have launched a full investigation and are currently questioning the housemaid, who was present at the scene. Investigators are working to establish the exact timeline of events and the motive behind the tragedy. The house had been used as a registered business premises dealing in produce for sale. Forensic examinations and interviews are ongoing as police attempt to piece together the circumstances leading to the deaths. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-06-01.

  4. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A man from a well-known family is facing legal action after allegedly ramming his car into a neighbour’s property before pouring an oily liquid over the vehicle in a dramatic early morning incident in Bangkok. At approximately 05:30 on 31 May, police from Klong Tan Station, under the direction of Pol. Maj. Gen. Witawat Chinnakham, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 5, were dispatched to a private residence in a housing estate in Suan Luang district following reports of a violent disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found damage to the front and side fencing of the property, as well as to a car parked in the driveway. The alleged perpetrator, identified only as Mr. Warat, a resident of the same neighbourhood, was reportedly intoxicated and had driven his BMW sedan directly into his neighbour’s home. Mr. Thananon, the property owner, told police that he and Mr. Warat had a history of personal disputes. “There have been tensions for some time. This morning, while clearly under the influence, he drove straight into my property, damaging my fence and car,” Mr. Thananon stated. In addition to the crash, authorities noted a black oily liquid, believed to be fuel, had been poured across the driveway, including around the damaged vehicle. Disturbingly, a lighter was also found placed on the front windshield of Mr. Warat’s own car, raising concerns about a possible intent to set the scene ablaze. Mr. Warat, who reportedly shares a surname with a former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, was described by officers as aggressive and shouting incoherently when police arrived. He was promptly taken into custody and informed of the charges against him, including property damage. Police confirmed he has been handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings. No injuries were reported, and authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the damages. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-06-01.

  8. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A man has been arrested for the brutal murder of his estranged wife and father-in-law after a failed attempt at reconciliation turned deadly in Nong Kung Si district, Kalasin province. The suspect, identified as Mr Worachet, also known as “Tae”, reportedly opened fire, killing both victims on the spot before fleeing the scene. The incident occurred at the victims’ home in Nong Bua Subdistrict on 30 May. According to police reports, Mr Worachet arrived at the house on a motorcycle with two accomplices, their faces partially covered. He attempted to persuade his wife, 25-year-old Ms Maneerat, to reconcile and leave with him. However, her father, Mr Somdet, 50, intervened and insisted that any discussion take place at the home. In a shocking turn, Mr Worachet allegedly drew a firearm and shot both his wife and her father multiple times, killing them instantly. The suspect fled the scene, prompting a swift manhunt ordered by Pol Maj Gen Sirasan YuenSanguanchai, Kalasin Provincial Police Commander. Officers from Nong Kung Si Police Station, along with provincial and local law enforcement, launched a coordinated operation to locate the killer. Under mounting pressure, Mr Worachet surrendered to police approximately three hours after the shooting. He was accompanied by family members and handed over the firearm believed to have been used in the murders. Initial investigations suggest jealousy and domestic conflict as the likely motives. The suspect had a history of frequent arguments with the victim, often fuelled by possessiveness and control. Mr Chairat, 24, the younger brother of the slain woman and son of the deceased father, was present during the incident. He recounted that Mr Worachet had tried to drag his sister from her room to force her into a private discussion away from the house. When she refused and a heated argument followed, their father stepped in, reportedly saying: “If you’re going to shoot, do it here.” Before the words had barely left his mouth, the gunman opened fire. Mr Chairat expressed his grief and fear, stating that he strongly opposed any attempt to grant bail and hoped the court would impose the maximum penalty. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-06-01.

  9. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Thirteen individuals have been arrested for illegally gambling in a private building in the Suriyawong area of Bang Rak district, Bangkok. Police seized gambling equipment and cash during the raid, with all suspects now facing prosecution under gambling laws. The operation took place on 30 May at approximately 15:30, after Bang Rak police received a tip-off from an informant about an illegal gambling ring operating inside a building on Soi Surawong 5. Following this, officers from Bang Rak Police Station, along with detectives from Metropolitan Police Division 6 and the city’s broader investigative division, coordinated a raid. Led by Pol Lt Gen Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau and supported by senior officers including Pol Maj Gen Noppasin Poolsawat and Pol Maj Gen Samart Promchat, the raid was executed under the command of Pol Col Thammasak Sarabun, Superintendent of Bang Rak Police Station. Upon arriving at the scene, officers surrounded the third floor of the building in question. There, they discovered a group of people actively engaged in a game of Hi-Lo, wagering for money without a legal permit. Police immediately moved in, announced their identity, and arrested all participants on site. Seized at the scene were one complete set of Hi-Lo equipment and cash totalling only 520 baht, consisting of five 100-baht banknotes and one 20-baht banknote. All 13 suspects admitted to participating in the illegal gambling session. The first suspect confessed to acting as the game’s organiser and was charged with “organising illegal gambling (Hi-Lo) for financial gain without authorisation.” The remaining 12 were each charged with “participating in illegal gambling (Hi-Lo).” All suspects were informed of the charges and subsequently taken to Bang Rak Police Station, along with the confiscated evidence, for further legal proceedings. 10. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Police have dismantled a sophisticated criminal network behind a fake online gambling scam that tricked victims into investing large sums in a bogus “high-return” baccarat scheme, only to find themselves unable to withdraw any profits. The crackdown, codenamed “Operation Stop Fake Betting”, was led by Pol Maj Gen Witya Sriprasertphap, commander of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD). More than 50 officers were deployed across multiple provinces to arrest members of the gang, who lured victims with promises of easy profits from online gambling handled by supposed professionals. Eight suspects were arrested under court warrants for public fraud, importing false computer data likely to cause public harm, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and actual money laundering. The accused include 32-year-old ringleader Ms Natthakanya, along with Ms Sudarat, 35, Ms Natwara, 27, Ms Bussarin, 40, Ms Sairung, 43, Ms Wasana, 50, Mr Kriangsak, 25, and Mr Thatchawin, 34. Vehicles, three ATM cards, two computers, nine mobile phones, high-end designer goods and over 50 other valuable items, worth an estimated 2 million baht, were seized during raids in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Ayutthaya, and Chiang Rai. Investigations were launched after multiple victims filed complaints stating they were initially invited to join a group promoting branded handbag investment. The focus soon shifted to a new “investment opportunity” involving online baccarat, presented as a fast-track to high returns. Victims were instructed to register fake gambling accounts and hand over their login details to a so-called team of professional players. The scammers showcased fabricated income screenshots and fake withdrawal slips to gain the victims’ trust. However, once money was transferred, the victims were unable to withdraw any profits. Instead, they were repeatedly asked to pay additional “processing fees”, including fictitious tax charges, account unlocking fees and even bogus international transaction fees. According to police, the gang operated with a clear structure, some members controlled mule accounts used for laundering funds, others withdrew cash from ATMs and a core group handled the deception and oversaw the entire scheme. One remaining suspect is still at large. Ms Natthakanya admitted to masterminding the scam, which began as early as 2021. Several other suspects claimed they were unaware of the operation’s criminal nature, saying they were only asked to lend bank accounts. All arrested individuals have been transferred to the CSD’s Division 3 for further legal proceedings. Authorities are intensifying efforts to track down the final suspect and are urging other potential victims to come forward. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-06-01.

  16. UPDATE Police Uncover Drug Haul After Chinese Nationals Involved in Gun Incident in Pattaya Pictures courtesy of SiamChon. Police are intensifying their investigation into a violent altercation between Chinese nationals that escalated into a shooting in the Huay Yai area of Pattaya, Chonburi province. The incident has since revealed a deeper layer of criminal activity, with a quantity of illegal drugs discovered during the inquiry. Officers searching a blue Mercedes-Benz GLA 250, registered in Bangkok and linked to the shooting victim, uncovered a cache of narcotics in the car’s boot. Seized items included liquid and powdered ketamine, crystal methamphetamine and a number of ecstasy tablets. In addition, police confiscated equipment used for manufacturing drug-laced vape pods. All items have been sent for forensic analysis. The firearm used in the shooting was recovered 800 metres from the crime scene after the suspect, identified as Mr Ju Bin, an associate of the victim, admitted to throwing the weapon into a nearby pond. The modified blank-firing handgun, along with a magazine found in nearby bushes, was retrieved by divers from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation. Mr Ju Bin was taken into custody and is currently being held for questioning at Huay Yai Police Station. He has thus far remained tight-lipped regarding the motive for the attack or the origins of the drugs found in the vehicle. Authorities are now working to determine whether the incident is part of a wider drug trafficking network operating in area. Adapted by Asean Now from SiamChon 2025-05-31.

  19. UPDATE Army Spokesman Says Thai - Cambodian Border Calm – No Need To Close Checkpoints Yet Picture courtesy of Amarin. The Royal Thai Army has dismissed speculation in the Thai media, that border crossings with Cambodia will be closed imminently, stating that the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border remains calm and under control. Major General Winthai Suvaree, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, clarified that although contingency plans are in place for possible checkpoint closures, such measures would only be considered if there were a significant threat to national security or public safety. “At present, no official reports have been received to warrant the closure of any border checkpoints,” he said, in response to recent reports that some crossings might soon be shut due to rising tensions. The clarification comes amid unconfirmed reports suggesting that up to six main border crossings and ten temporary checkpoints could be closed, following nationalist sentiments and heightened rhetoric from Cambodian groups. However, the army has assured the public that any such decision would only be taken if absolutely necessary and only in areas deemed to be at high risk. Example of Thai media headlines. “In the past, closures have only occurred in cases of real necessity, such as credible threats involving long-range weaponry or other significant security concerns,” Major General Winthai noted. He emphasised that the current situation is generally stable, with only a few isolated areas experiencing minor issues. These, he said, are being addressed through local coordination mechanisms and within the framework of existing bilateral agreements. “Both sides continue to engage through established local-level channels to manage any emerging issues and are committed to resolving them peacefully and cooperatively,” he added. The statement comes in the wake of increased public interest and concern about cross-border relations, but the Thai Army remains confident that there is no immediate cause for alarm. 23. Update on this Chinese casualty. Chinese Man Shot by Compatriot Near Pattaya, Gunman in Custody:
  24. Pictures courtesy of SiamChon. A violent altercation between a group of Chinese nationals resulted in gunfire and one serious injury in the Huay Yai area of Bang Lamung district, Chonburi, on 31 May. The suspect was later arrested following a police operation that lasted over 30 minutes. At approximately 11:30, Pol. Lt. Mintharat Thongsai, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Huay Yai Police Station, received a report of a shooting incident on Soi Khao Makok 6/4, Moo 4, Huay Yai subdistrict. Officers from the investigative unit, armed patrol units and rescue personnel from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation in Pattaya were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, police discovered a single-storey detached house with an area of roughly 50–60 square wah. A large pool of blood was found near the front gate, with a trail leading into the house. Inside the living room, a 26-year-old Chinese man identified as Mr. Qiyang was found wounded, having sustained a gunshot to his right ankle. The bullet had shattered the bone. He was semi-conscious, due to heavy blood loss. Two fellow Chinese nationals were seen administering basic first aid as emergency responders arrived. Mr. Yang was stabilised and transported to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya. Eyewitnesses reported that the gunman, also believed to be Chinese, fled through the rear of the property into a nearby residential community. A combined force of over 20 uniformed and plainclothes officers conducted a search of the area, ultimately apprehending the suspect after a 30-minute manhunt. He was taken into custody and transferred to Huay Yai Police Station for questioning. Ms. Mon, a 27-year-old neighbour who witnessed the events, told police that she had heard a loud argument between a group of Chinese men just before the incident. Two vehicles, a red-plated white sedan and a blue Mercedes-Benz, were parked in front of the house at the time. Shortly afterwards, she heard three gunshots. Rushing outside, she saw several Chinese men dragging the injured Mr. Yang back into the house before she called the authorities. Residents in the neighbourhood reported frequent disturbances from the Chinese tenants of the house in question. Some stated that the suspect fled on foot while the white red-plated sedan was seen speeding out of the area. The motive for the shooting remains unclear. Interestingly, Mr. Qiyang had made headlines just two days prior for an unrelated incident in which he reportedly jumped into a rooftop water tank at a condominium on Soi Thepprasit. Today, he finds himself hospitalised after being shot. Police are continuing their investigation and questioning the suspect to determine the exact cause of the altercation. 25. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. The government is preparing to temporarily shut six permanent border checkpoints and ten cross-border trade points along the Thai-Cambodian border following heightened tensions stemming from a recent military skirmish. Security sources report that the decision comes after an armed clash between Thai and Cambodian troops in the Chong Bok area of Ubon Ratchathani province. The incident resulted in the deaths of two Cambodian soldiers and injuries to several others. In the wake of the incident, anti-Thai sentiment has surged on Cambodian social media platforms, with widespread calls to boycott Thai products. Authorities fear that the rising nationalist rhetoric and social unrest could lead to direct confrontations between citizens along the border. Concerned about the safety of Thai civilians and cross-border traders, security agencies convened an emergency meeting and decided to suspend operations at the following six permanent checkpoints, but no date for the closure was given: Chong Sa Ngam – Phu Sing District, Si Sa Ket Province Chong Chom – Kap Choeng District, Surin Province Ban Khlong Luek – Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province Ban Laem – Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province Ban Phakkat – Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province Ban Hat Lek – Khlong Yai District, Trat Province In addition, ten temporary cross-border trade points will also be closed: Chong Arn Ma – Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province Ban Ta Phraya – Ta Phraya District, Sa Kaeo Province Ban Nong Plue – Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province Ban Khao Din – Khlong Hat District, Sa Kaeo Province Ban Sap Taree – Soi Dao District, Chanthaburi Province Ban Bueng Chanang Lang – Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province Ban Suan Som – Sai Dao District, Chanthaburi Province Ban Muen Dan – Bo Phloi Subdistrict, Bo Rai District, Trat Province Ban Chom Ngom – Nonsi Subdistrict, Bo Rai District, Trat Province Chong Sai Taku – Chanthop Phet Subdistrict, Ban Kruat District, Buri Ram Province Additionally, two tourism-related crossing points will be affected: the entrance to Phra Viharn (Preah Vihear) National Park in Kantharalak District, Si Sa Ket and the crossing at Ta Muen Thom in Phanom Dong Rak District, Surin Province. Thai authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have stressed that the closures are aimed at ensuring the safety of citizens and preventing further incidents along the shared border. It remains unclear when and how long the closures will remain in place. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-05-31.
