Early on the morning of October 5, at approximately 08:00, the Khamchai unit of the Ruamjai Mukdahan Rescue Association responded to a report of a body found in a remote forest area near the entrance to Huai Rai Reservoir 2. The report, which originated from a concerned local, led rescue teams to a secluded area in Khamcha-i District, sparking a prompt response from both rescue and law enforcement agencies. Upon reaching the scene, the rescue team found a blue-black Honda motorcycle with the license registered in Chonburi, parked near the forest entrance. Following a search through the forest the lifeless body of a woman was discovered hanging from a tree by a rope, approximately 200 metres from the motorcycle, Initial investigations by the rescue team and officers from the Phueng Daet Police Station suggest that the woman had been deceased for at least seven days, based on the state of the body. In the motorcycle a ID for Ms Napa, aged 40 was found, which is believed to belong to the victim, but visual confirmation was not possible due to the state of decomposition. The advanced state of decomposition has made it difficult to determine the exact cause of death immediately, though foul play has not been ruled out. Forensic examination at the scene was conducted in conjunction with the on-call physician from Mukdahan Hospital. Following the examination, the body was handed over to the Dong Mon emergency medical services team, who transferred the remains to Mukdahan Hospital for an autopsy. The police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic event. At this stage, they have asked the public to come forward with any information that may assist how she came to be in this isolated location. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-06

Police in Pattaya were called to a local hotel after a Thai female guest refused to leave her room upon the expiration of her rental period. The woman, under the influence of drugs, locked herself in the hotel bathroom, prompting a 30-minute negotiation before she was apprehended. Authorities discovered cannabis and drug paraphernalia in the room. The incident occurred on October 4, when officers from Pattaya City Police Station, along with municipal officials from the Public Order Division, were summoned to the scene after the hotel’s staff reported the disturbance. The female guest, who had rented a room for five days, refused to vacate when her stay ended, barricading herself in the bathroom. Hotel employees had attempted to convince her to leave but were unsuccessful. The woman grew increasingly agitated, yelling and screaming inside the bathroom. After 30 minutes of negotiations failed to calm her down, officials called in a locksmith to unlock the bathroom door, allowing them to enter and arrest her. The woman appeared disoriented and was unresponsive to questioning, exhibiting signs of drug use. Authorities found cannabis and a smoking device in the room. Initial reports suggest the woman had violated several hotel rules during her stay, including drug use, and had become aggressive when asked to leave. She was taken to Pattaya City Police Station to calm down, and her family has been contacted to collect her from police custody. -- 2024-10-06

Emergency responders from Sattahip Hospital and the Sawang Rojanatham Foundation attended the scene. Upon arrival, officers found a red-and-black Kawasaki Z900 motorcycle with registration in Chonburi, heavily damaged. Lying nearby was the lifeless body of a 66-year-old British man, identified as Mr. Garrad. The victim suffered severe neck trauma, including a fracture and a large deep laceration on the side and back of his neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The impact site was identified as a damaged traffic sign marking the approach to the U-turn bridge. Witnesses reported that the deceased had just returned to Thailand the day before and had gone out for a ride with friends. His wife, upon hearing the tragic news, rushed to the scene. An eyewitness, Mr. Apiwat, stated that he saw two large motorcycles coming down the road. While the first rider successfully made the U-turn towards Pattaya, the second rider collided head-on with the traffic sign, causing his body to be thrown from the bike. Emergency services were alerted, but the victim had already succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have documented the scene and will question witnesses further to determine the exact cause of the crash. The body has been transferred to the Police General Hospital in Bangkok for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death, as part of the ongoing investigation. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-06

UPDATE Two Elephants Found Dead After Being Swept Away in Chiang Mai Floods The hopes of rescuing two missing elephants were dashed on October 5, as their lifeless bodies were discovered after being swept away by floodwaters in Mae Taeng District. The elephants, identified as Pang Fasai and another as yet unnamed, were found entangled in debris after being carried downstream by the flood. The Elephant Nature Park had earlier shared on social media that one elephant, Pang Fasai, had been swept towards a water diversion tunnel in an attempt to escape the rising floodwaters. Rescue teams and local mahouts launched an immediate search, but tragically, the elephants were found near debris in the vicinity of Sibsan Resort, Mae Taeng. Veterinarians and officials are on-site to conduct further investigations. The confirmed death of Pang Fasai, an elephant from a local sanctuary, has devastated the community. Prior to this, it was reported that another elephant, believed to be Pang Mae Kho, a disabled elephant also from the same sanctuary, had gone missing. The identity of this second deceased elephant is still under verification, though officials believe it to be Pang Mae Kho. Earlier reports of an elephant named Pang Mae Boon Chang being found dead were later corrected. The blind elephant, also from the sanctuary, had been successfully rescued from the floodwaters the previous evening and is now safe. So far, the flooding in Chiang Mai has claimed the lives of three elephants. Rescue teams continue their search for several other missing elephants, including ten untethered and aggressive males from a nearby sanctuary. Officials from the Elephant Conservation Centre in Lampang are working with local authorities in a race against time to find and rescue these remaining elephants before further tragedy strikes. -- 2024-10-05 -

In an incident that shocked the local community, a baby boy was found abandoned on Jomtien Beach, Pattaya. The infant, left alone and crying out in hunger, was discovered just in time by concerned residents who quickly intervened. The baby, believed from his looks, to be of mixed heritage, was found wrapped in a blanket and placed near the edge of the beach, seemingly forgotten by those who were supposed to care for him. The incident occurred in the early hours of October 5, when locals passing by heard the distressed cries of the baby. Upon investigation, they found the infant lying alone on the sand, visibly hungry and cold. His body trembled as he cried for milk, but there was no sign of his parents or anyone else nearby who might have been responsible for him. Thankfully, one of the good Samaritans, a local woman who lives near the beach, acted quickly. She picked up the infant and provided some basic care while others alerted the authorities. Soon after, paramedics arrived at the scene and transported the baby to a nearby hospital for a full medical check-up. Initial reports suggest that the baby is doing well and is receiving proper care at the hospital. Authorities have also launched an investigation to track down the parents or guardians responsible for the abandonment. The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area to trace any possible leads, and they are asking for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. The investigation continues as authorities try to piece together how such an event could happen on the shores of Jomtien Beach. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-05

Pickup Crashes into Ambulance, Severing Power Pole & Causing Large Blackout: Ayutthaya A speeding pickup truck collided with an ambulance and then careened into a power pole, causing significant damage to local infrastructure. Full story : https://aseannow.com/topic/1339893-pickup-crashes-into-ambulance-severing-power-pole-causing-large-blackout ayutthaya/ -
The collision occurred late night on October 5 and left a pickup truck mangled, a power pole snapped in two, and areas of the city plunged into darkness. The incident occurred on Rojana Road, Ayutthaya, when a speeding pickup truck collided with an ambulance and then careened into a power pole, causing significant damage to local infrastructure. Police Lieutenant Dechathorn Khamming from Uthai Police Station reported that the accident took place around 22:30. A Ford four-door pickup, registered in Phitsanulok, rear-ended an ambulance, the driver lost control, and crashed into a power pole near kilometre marker 13 in Kanham Subdistrict, Uthai District, Ayutthaya. At the scene, officers found the power pole split in two, with a damaged transformer, leaving the surrounding area without electricity. The front of the pickup truck was utterly destroyed, with the engine ejected and lying on the sidewalk some distance away. Inside the vehicle, 45-year-old Mr. Athorn (surname withheld) was found seriously injured and trapped. Rescue workers rushed him to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital for emergency treatment. The impact of the crash also left the ambulance, belonging to the Phutthaisawan Foundation, damaged. The right rear side was hit, and the back tyre burst. The driver, Mr. Wichai (surname withheld), a volunteer, was visibly shaken by the collision. Mr. Wichai explained that he had been driving in the right lane when he noticed the pickup truck rapidly approaching from behind. It slammed into the rear of his vehicle before veering off the road and crashing into the power pole. Wichai immediately tried to assist the injured driver but was forced to call for backup when smoke began rising from the wreckage. The collision caused a widespread power outage in the area. Uthai Provincial Electricity Authority teams worked to restore electricity, with initial assessments revealing significant damage to a high-voltage power pole and a transformer belonging to the Department of Highways. The blackout impacted street lighting, and repair costs are estimated to exceed 100,000 baht, though further evaluations are needed. Authorities are continuing their investigation, gathering detailed statements from the drivers and assessing the scene to determine the exact cause of the accident. Both vehicles are being examined for evidence, and legal proceedings will follow based on the findings. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-05

Motorcyclist Killed in Collision with Pickup Truck in Nonthaburi Police in Nonthaburi attended the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident on Chaiyapruek Road, A Honda motorcycle had crashed into the back of a pickup truck. Full story : https://aseannow.com/topic/1339883-motorcyclist-killed-in-collision-with-pickup-truck-in-nonthaburi/ -
Police from Bang Bua Thong Police Station in Nonthaburi, alongside emergency responders from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, at 17.45 on October 4, attended the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident. The incident occurred on Chaiyapruek Road, inbound towards the bridge over Khlong Aen in Laharn Subdistrict, Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi. Upon investigation, authorities found a yellow Honda motorcycle, without a license plate, that had crashed into the back of a black Nissan pickup truck with license plate registered in Udon Thani. The motorcyclist, identified as 27-year-old Pirapong Thongsaen, was thrown from his bike and died at the scene, his body resting inside, on the bed of the truck. The pickup truck driver, 63-year-old Prayut Thammada, claimed that his vehicle had broken down 15 minutes before the crash. He said he had activated the hazard lights while he sat inside the truck, with a companion signaling other vehicles. According to Prayut, the motorcyclist was using his phone at the time and did not notice the stationary truck, resulting in the collision. However, Prayut’s companion, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, provided a slightly different account. He stated that he had only used his hand to signal from inside the truck and was not standing outside the vehicle to wave down approaching traffic. The companion also mentioned that the motorcyclist appeared to be distracted by his phone when the crash occurred. A nearby witness, 24-year-old Mr. Tao, who works at a nearby restaurant, reported that he saw the pickup truck slowly reversing before the accident. He added that no one was signaling from the rear of the truck, and the only visible signal came from the passenger’s hand extended from the window. According to Mr. Tao, the motorcyclist, traveling at high speed, slammed into the back of the pickup. Police have recorded both accounts and noted discrepancies between the statements of the pickup driver and the witness. Investigators plan to review CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact cause of the accident. The body of the deceased has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy. A fire occurred at a house on October 4, in the Klong Gao Hong community on Pracha Uthit 90 Road, Thung Khru district, Bangkok, resulting in the tragic death of 11 cats, while many others were left injured. Five of the surviving cats have been rushed to a nearby animal hospital for treatment, while the rest have been given first aid by veterinarians at the scene. Police officers from Thung Khru Police Station responded to the emergency call after the fire broke out at a two-story, semi-wooden house, which was quickly engulfed by flames. Firefighters from the Thung Khru fire station arrived promptly and managed to extinguish the blaze. After controlling the fire, they began clearing the smoke to assess the damage. Upon entering the property, the rescue team was met with a heartbreaking sight. Nine cats were found dead inside the house, while many others were severely injured by the intense heat. Volunteers swiftly worked to save the surviving cats, moving them to safety and providing urgent medical attention. In total, the house owner had 29 cats, with 9 perishing in the fire, one dying later from severe injuries, and one found dead outside the home. Several cats remain unaccounted for, with 12 suffering burns. Ms. Sirisara, 53, the homeowner and cat owner, expressed her deep sorrow. “I wasn’t home at the time, but my aunt was. I rushed back as soon as I heard about the fire,” she explained. “I had around 29 cats, each in separate cages on the second floor. I’m not sure what caused the fire – whether it was a short circuit or if one of the cats chewed through the wires. I always kept a power strip plugged in, even when I turned off the fan.” Preliminary investigations have yet to determine the exact cause of the fire. Officials will conduct a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances that led to this incident. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-05

Na Chaliang Police Station received a report at 16.40 on October 4, of a collision between a pick-up truck and a school van at kilometre marker 184 on the Saraburi-Lom Sak Road in Huai Pong sub-district, Nong Phai district, Phetchabun. The accident resulted in five injuries in the school van. At the scene, authorities found a damaged school van belonging to Kuladis Wittayanusorn School. The rear of the van showed clear signs of being struck, with the rear wheels dislodged. Among those injured were the van driver and four students, who were rushed to Nong Phai Hospital. Nearby, a black pick-up truck with registration number from Phetchabun was found heavily damaged at the front. Additionally, a motorcycle was found at the scene, also severely damaged. The motorcyclist, identified as Mr. Phada (surname withheld), aged 67, was found unconscious and was immediately taken to Nong Phai Hospital for emergency care. Initial investigations revealed that the motorcycle had abruptly cut in front of the pick-up truck, forcing the driver of the truck to swerve. The pick-up then lost control, colliding with the rear of the school van. The impact caused the van to veer off the road, cross the median, and crash into a tree. Police have called in both the pick-up and van drivers for questioning as they continue their investigation into the exact cause of the accident. Dr. Bundit Kruthangka, head of Kuladis Wittayanusorn School, stated that he rushed to the scene upon hearing the news. After visiting the hospital, he reported that most of the injuries were minor, though one student suffered a broken arm. He noted that the accident occurred after the students had finished their final exams, and the van was en route to drop the last four students at their homes. One of the parents, Mrs. Jaruwan (surname withheld), aged 35, shared her distress. “I was waiting for my child to come home when I received a call about the accident. I was in shock, especially since I was still shaken from a recent bus fire incident. Seeing the state of the van broke my heart, but fortunately, my child only sustained minor injuries. After speaking with them and seeing they were responsive, I felt a little relieved,” she said. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to determine legal action.
