Picture courtesy of CIB A man wanted for nearly two decades for a deadly shooting during a drinking session has been arrested by The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB). The arrest brings an end to an 18-year-long manhunt for Mr. Woramet, who was wanted for imurder and illegal possession of a firearm. The arrest was carried out by officers from the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) at a house in Song Chan subdistrict, Krasang district, Buriram province, the suspect’s hometown. The crime dates back to 2007, when Mr. Woramet fatally shot a man in Si Racha district, Chonburi province, using a pen gun, a disguised firearm resembling a pen, during a heated argument in a drinking circle. According to the investigation, the suspect had been struck in the back during the altercation before retaliating with the concealed weapon. Following the incident, Mr. Woramet fled the scene on a motorcycle and managed to evade authorities for 18 years. A warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and carrying a weapon in a public place without reasonable cause. A renewed investigation led officers to trace his whereabouts to Nong Teng subdistrict in Krasang, Buriram. Upon locating him, police moved in and arrested him without incident. Mr. Woramet admitted his identity and confessed to the crime, claiming he acted in self-defence. He has since been handed over to the investigative officers of Si Racha Police Station in Chonburi province to face legal proceedings. The arrest was made under the direction of Police Lieutenant General Jiraphop Bhuridej, Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, with oversight from Police Major General Wittaya Sriprasertphap, CSD Commander, and Police Colonel Natewit Thanasitnitikul, Superintendent of Subdivision 2. The operational team was led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Phuwadol Premprewan. Adapted by Asean Now from CIB 2025-05-13.

UPDATE Myanmar National Suspected in Murder of Elderly Fitness Centre Owner Now in Custody Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Police have confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old Myanmar national, Mr. Sai Harn, suspected of murdering a 70-year-old fitness centre owner in Bangkok, following a manhunt and a 20,000 baht reward offer for information leading to his capture. The victim, Mr. Yuttharot Suwansumet, was the proprietor of a local fitness facility and employer of the suspect’s pregnant wife. He was fatally shot inside his home in Soi Rom Sai 12, Bang Khae district, on 10 May. The killing followed a heated confrontation during which Mr. Sai Harn is alleged to have threatened his own wife, who is five months pregnant, prompting her employer to intervene. According to investigators, a struggle ensued between the suspect and Mr. Yuttharot, who reportedly brandished a .38 calibre revolver to protect the woman. During the altercation, the firearm discharged, fatally wounding the elderly man. Mr. Sai Harn then fled the scene in the victim’s Honda car, taking both the weapon and the victim’s mobile phone. The vehicle was later discovered abandoned along Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in front of the Royal Thai Police flats in Chatuchak District. The car’s keys were left in the ignition, and it bore signs of a frontal collision with the licence plate missing. Witnesses saw the suspect leave the area on a public bus bound for Rangsit. A combined investigation led by Pol. Lt. Gen. Chotiwat Luangwilai, Commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau’s Investigation Division, along with senior officers from Phetkasem Police Station and Division 9, traced the suspect’s movements using CCTV footage. He was seen entering Rangsit Market shortly after abandoning the vehicle. Despite an intensive search, the suspect managed to elude police for two days. However, at around 20:00 on 12 May, police arrested Mr. Sai Harn in Soi On Nut 65 as he was attempting to seek shelter at his wife’s former employer’s residence. Pol. Col. Pramote Chanboonkaew of Phetkasem Police confirmed that the arrest was made under a warrant issued by the Thonburi Criminal Court (No. 507/2568), charging Mr. Sai Han with murder and related offences. Mr. Sai Han is currently being held at Phetkasem Police Station, where he is undergoing further interrogation. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-05-13.

Picture courtesy of Amarin. A man reported missing after being swept away by a flash flood in Wang Nam Khiao district, Nakhon Ratchasima, has been found alive, much to the relief of rescuers and the local community. The incident occurred on the evening of 10 May, following prolonged heavy rainfall caused by a summer storm. The rain triggered sudden flash floods in the Udomsap subdistrict. At approximately 20:00, local residents contacted Hook 31 rescue services in Udomsap after witnessing a man, aged 60, being carried away by powerful floodwaters while attempting to push his motorcycle across a submerged causeway near Wat Huai Phrom, between Moo 4 and Moo 8 villages. Due to the strength of the current and poor visibility at night, no one dared to intervene at the time. Emergency responders were immediately dispatched but encountered difficulty locating the man due to unclear coordinates, darkness, and the widespread presence of fast-moving floodwaters. Rescuers deployed thermal drones in an attempt to detect a heat signature, but the search was called off at 23:30, after no signs of the man were found. However, in a dramatic turn of events, on the morning of 12 May, villagers informed rescue personnel that the missing man had been found alive, along with his motorcycle. According to reports, he had clung to his bike and used it to shield himself from the force of the current as he struggled to reach the opposite bank and pull both himself and his motorcycle out of the water. His quick thinking and determination enabled him to survive the terrifying ordeal. He was unaware of the rescue operation. Picture courtesy of Kaoded. A dramatic rescue unfolded in Lampang Province on the morning of 12 Nay, after a house fire broke out due to an electrical fault, leaving a mother and son injured by burns and smoke inhalation. At approximately 08:20, emergency teams from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Unit of Nong Lom Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, along with volunteers from Nong Lom Rescue, Lampang Rescue Association, and Sawang Nakhon Lampang Rescue, responded swiftly to reports of a house fire at 148, Moo 8, Nong Lom Subdistrict, Hang Chat District. The blaze reportedly started in the central room of the residence, where two occupants, Mrs Thongphan, 71, and her son Mr Phasin, 45, were inside at the time. Both suffered burns and smoke inhalation injuries. Rescuers immediately administered first aid and rushed them to Hang Chat Hospital for further treatment. According to police investigator Pol. Lt. Col. Rungreungchai Uppakarn from Hang Chat Police Station, the fire appears to have been caused by a damaged and outdated extension plug used to power the household television. Mr Phasin, who attempted to extinguish the flames himself, was unable to contain the fire and was forced to drag his mother from the burning house, both covered in black soot from the fire. The fire caused damage in the home, destroying the television and burning through ceiling panels and electrical outlets. Thick smoke left a strong odour throughout the house. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, warning residents about the dangers of using worn or faulty electrical equipment. Adapted by Asean Now from Kaoded 2025-05-13.

Picture courtesy of Amarin. A 24-year-old police cadet was found dead on the afternoon of 12 May, after reportedly taking his own life by hanging beneath a bridge over the Loei River in the province’s capital. At approximately 14:00, Pol. Lt. Booncherd Kongkert, an investigator at Mueang Loei Police Station, was alerted to the discovery of a body hanging under the Loei River bridge in Kut Pong Subdistrict. Rescue workers from the Dewa Foundation and medical personnel were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found a set of personal belongings near the bridge, including a wallet, identification documents, clothing, and a pair of shoes. The deceased was identified as Mr Chawakorn, a 24-year-old student at the Provincial Police Training School Region 4 in Khon Kaen. Etched into the ground near the site was a distressing message: “I’ve tried many times. I’m sorry. I’m sad.” The body was discovered hanging from a metal railing under the bridge using black nylon trousers as a makeshift rope. The deceased was wearing only black underwear at the time. Rescue teams retrieved the body from the river. A preliminary examination by medical staff revealed no signs of struggle or external injuries. The estimated time of death was approximately 30 minutes before discovery. According to investigators, Mr Chawakorn was originally from Dan Sai District in Loei Province and had been assigned to begin a training placement at Mueang Loei Police Station the following day. Picture courtesy of Amarin. The three deaths has shocked a rural village, after a couple and their five-year-old son were found shot dead in a remote hut surrounded by tapioca fields in Chiang Rai province. The victims, identified as Mr Lahuna, Ms Nadu, and their young son, Jirayu, were discovered by the child’s grandmother in the early hours of the morning of 12 May, after he failed to visit her as usual. All three bodies were found in the central room of the family’s wooden hut, which stands isolated approximately 500 metres from the nearest home in Ban Pa Lan, Moo 11, in Huai Chomphu subdistrict, Mueang district. Police and rescue teams were alerted around 09:00, after the grandmother entered the hut and discovered the horrifying scene. Investigators found bloodstains in the bedroom and children’s toys scattered throughout the home. A long-barrelled shotgun was found near the body of Mr Lahuna, leading officials to suspect a murder-suicide. According to local accounts, villagers reported hearing three loud bangs around 21:30, the previous night, but dismissed the noises as firecrackers. Mr Natee, 31, who lives nearby, said he had already gone to bed and heard nothing unusual, only learning of the tragedy when neighbours visited the hut the following morning. Deputy village headman Mr Jamu Jabu, 34, confirmed that no one disturbed the scene before authorities arrived. Initially, only the adult couple’s bodies were found. A later search revealed that young Jirayu’s body had been wrapped in a sarong belonging to his mother. He had been shot in the head. Mr Lahuna also suffered a gunshot wound to the head, while Ms Nadu was shot in the chest. Mr Jamu recounted that Ms Nadu had two teenage daughters from a previous marriage before living with Mr Lahuna for the past decade. She had periodically travelled to Chiang Rai city for work, sometimes staying for months and occasionally taking her son with her. These absences may have triggered jealousy and insecurity in her husband. Authorities suspect jealousy as the most likely motive behind the murders, particularly given past reports of frequent arguments between the couple. However, no previous incidents of drug use or criminal behaviour had been reported. Police investigations continue as the grieving family and community await further answers. UPDATE Son of Democrat MP Surrenders to Police Over Assault on Officer at Songkhla Polling Station Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A man wanted in connection with the assault of a police officer during local elections in Songkhla has turned himself in to authorities, accompanied by his father, a sitting Member of Parliament. At 12:30 on 12 May, Mr Siradon Phlaiduang, 28, known locally as “Sajor Golf,” arrived at Mueang Songkhla Police Station alongside his father, Mr Somyot Phlaiduang, Democrat Party MP for Songkhla’s Constituency 3. Mr Siradon is among seven suspects named in arrest warrants following the violent incident, which took place at a polling station in Phawong Subdistrict. The case involves the assault of Pol. Sgt. Nisatit Kongthep, an officer attached to Border Patrol Police Company 43, who was reportedly injured while attempting to prevent unauthorised photography at Polling Station 7 during the municipal elections for Phawong Subdistrict Municipality. Mr Siradon, who declined to speak to reporters, was led alone into the interrogation room as officers prepared his arrest record. His father briefly addressed the media, stating: “I’ve brought my son in to show that he is innocent.” Police confirmed that of the seven suspects named in the warrant, six have now presented themselves to the authorities. Five of them , Mr Rapeepong “Aon” Sawatchookaew (40), Mr Numsek “Khao” Thongsri (34), Mr Jakkrapong “Jak” Thepchoom (45), Mr Sarayut “Not” Noochaikaew (32), and Mr Pongthep “Nueng Freedom” Wadwilai (41), have been detained. Mr Pongthep remains at large. Another suspect, Mr Yotsaran Sangaban-Khok, also known as “Bang Jai,” aged 38, has not yet been apprehended and is still being sought by police. According to investigators, Mr Siradanai faces two charges: Participating with three or more persons in using force or weapons to resist or obstruct an officer performing official duties Instructing others to commit an offence against an officer acting under legal authority The remaining six suspects face the same first charge and a second charge of physically assaulting an officer acting within their official capacity. The investigation has so far revealed that instructions were allegedly given via mobile phone and that one suspect had stored a firearm at a family residence. Police have strongly opposed bail for all seven individuals, citing the seriousness of the offence and risk of evidence tampering. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has publicly condemned the use of violence against election officials, urging that the matter be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted. The Democrat Party has sought to distance itself from the incident, with senior figures asserting that it is a personal matter involving the MP’s son and not related to the party’s activities. The investigation continues as police move forward with legal proceedings against those involved. Adapted by Asean Now from Khomchadluek 2025-05-13.

The incident occurred around 16:30 on 11 May near the entrance to the Thai Food chicken factory in Moo 4, U Loke Si Muen sub-district, Tha Maka district. According to police from Tha Ruea Station, the victims were all Myanmar nationals, believed to be between 20 and 30 years old. They had been riding on a single motorcycle against the flow of traffic, with three people on board. Emergency responders found a heavily damaged black Yamaha motorcycle lying at the roadside. Nearby, a black Ford pickup truck, identified as the other vehicle involved, was parked with significant front-end damage. The male driver of the pickup told officers he had been en route to a sugarcane field when the motorcycle suddenly appeared, travelling the wrong way. He claimed his view had been obscured by another vehicle that was stopped, waiting to make a U-turn. As a result, he said, he was unable to see the motorbike in time to avoid the collision. UPDATE Toxic Gases Detected in Major Furniture Factory Fire, Nearby Residents Urged to Evacuate Picture courtesy of Khaosod. The Pollution Control Department (PCD) has detected several hazardous gases following a large fire at a furniture warehouse on Chalong Krung Soi 55 in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district. The blaze, which broke out in a single-storey storage facility containing plastic kitchen furniture and sink cabinets, poses a serious environmental and health risk to nearby communities. Authorities report that the warehouse contained approximately 300,000 kilograms of plastic pellets, which acted as fuel for the rapidly spreading fire. Two warehouses, including a basement storage level, were affected. Dense black smoke billowed into the air as firefighters continued efforts to control the flames. The PCD conducted air quality tests using chemical vapour detection equipment at seven monitoring points within a five-kilometre radius between 11:55 and 1:00 on 12 May. The findings were alarming: 1. Community areas upto 5km downwind: Tests in areas including Thiwphai Pattana Community, Thong Samrit School/Temple, Flora Ville Village, Thippawas Temple, and Sapcharoen Village revealed trace amounts of toxic substances such as formaldehyde, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, phosgene, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like methyl mercaptan and vinyl chloride. These were detected in low concentrations, not expected to cause immediate respiratory harm. 2. Locations within 150 metres of the fire: At Lio Village and alongside the warehouse in Soi Chalong Krung 55, residents reported a strong burning plastic odour. Chemical levels here were considerably higher, with formaldehyde, methyl mercaptan, and phosgene reaching concentrations capable of causing acute respiratory irritation. Small amounts of VOCs including vinyl chloride and ethylbenzene were also detected. 3. Fire zone: Personnel operating at the fire site were instructed to wear full protective gear and chemical filter masks due to the persistent release of toxic smoke from burning plastic materials. Given the ongoing fire and smoke hazards, residents within a 200-metre radius were advised to evacuate. The Lat Krabang District Office has set up an emergency command centre and established a temporary shelter at Lamphaong School (Ratjamroen Bamrung). The PCD has issued the following safety guidelines: • Residents in affected areas should immediately relocate to upwind zones with clean air. • Individuals experiencing skin or eye irritation should rinse affected areas thoroughly with clean water for several minutes. • Medical attention is advised for those suffering from severe symptoms. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and work to fully extinguish the fire. The fire is contained, but responders can’t access the smouldering areas, due the collapse of much of the structure. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-05-12. -

UPDATE Families Devastated After Four Found Murdered and Burned in Plantation Picture courtesy of Amarin The families of four men who were brutally murdered and burned in an oil palm plantation are in deep shock and grief, particularly the relatives of Mr. Anan Tochonok, known locally as “Ko Piak”, one of the victims in a horrifying crime that has shocked the community. Authorities have now confirmed that there were four victims, including Ko Piak aged 50, all had been shot with various firearms and burned using car tyres in an attempt to conceal the crime. The bodies were discovered in a palm plantation in Moo 1, Kala Se Subdistrict, Sikao District, Trang Province, in the early hours of 11 May. The fourth body, was found buried nearby and believed to have been dead for over two weeks. Ko Piak, a general technician for a local agricultural firm, was not known to have any enemies. Family members insist he was likely an innocent party who became caught up in the events while assisting others. His niece-in-law, Ms. Jutamas Chanjarung, 39, recounted Ko Piak’s last known movements. On 9 May, he left his home in Lan Saka District, Nakhon Si Thammarat, at around 07:00 with his two children, heading to pick up gardening equipment before continuing to a durian plantation in Saai Khao Subdistrict, Krabi Province. At around 16:00, Mr. Surachet Luankiatkajorn, known as “Ko Chet”, a 69-year-old plantation manager, phoned Ko Piak. Roughly an hour later, Ko Piak failed to return to collect his assistants at the durian farm. His sister tried to call him around 19:00, but his phone was off, initially not alarming, but by 20:30, when he still hadn’t returned home, family members grew concerned. They began checking hospitals and police stations. Eventually, around 01:00, they called Sikao Police Station and were informed of the gruesome discovery. “We were devastated,” said Ms. Jutamas, “Ko Piak was the youngest in the family, a quiet man without enemies.” Mr. Kiettisak Prikprasong, 29, one of Ko Piak’s assistants, confirmed he had stayed behind at the durian plantation. He said Ko Piak had told him to finish the work while he and two others went to the palm plantation in Trang. “Ko Piak was supposed to return by 17:00, but he never did,” he said. “We feared something had gone terribly wrong.” Police are investigating the case and are working to establish the motive behind the attack. Some reports suggest it may be linked to disputes over agricultural produce, including missing palm oil, though the families claim they were unaware of any such conflicts. For now, grieving relatives are left waiting to reclaim their loved ones’ bodies and praying for justice. The families of all four victims have called on the police to pursue the case thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-05-12.
