Pictures courtesy of Khaosod. Authorities have launched a major manhunt for four fugitives wanted in connection with a gruesome quadruple murder in a palm oil plantation in Trang province. The killings, described by police as a “nang yang” (tyre-burning) execution, have shocked the nation with their brutality. The crime occurred on the night of 11 May in Moo 1, Kalase subdistrict, Sikao district. The charred remains of three employees from Piyakankarn 199 Co. Ltd., including plantation manager Surachet Luangkiatkajorn, were found in a water trench. A fourth, yet unidentified body, was located nearby. Police say the victims were shot, held for ransom and then burned using vehicle tyres in a calculated and horrific act. Arrest warrants have been issued for four suspects: • Supakorn Rakwiwat, 37, alias “Bin”, a known hitman with six previous major charges including five for murder; • Jaranachai Samathi, 32, alias “Taem”, from Nam Phut; • Piyasak Suwanmanee, 33, alias “Jack”, from Kalase; and • Rapeepan Boonkerd, 36, alias “Tueak”, from Boh Hin. According to investigators, the suspects attempted to steal palm fruits from the 170-rai plantation. When confronted by the manager and staff, they allegedly opened fire and demanded a 40,000-baht ransom, which was transferred to the wife of suspect “Jack”. The victims were then taken to a remote 36-rai plot overseen by “Bin”, where they were shot again. Some were reportedly still alive when they were dragged to a water channel and set on fire with stacked tyres. The suspects then loaded the stolen palm fruits into a grey Isuzu D-Max pickup truck and sold them. That vehicle was later discovered parked behind the home of suspect “Taem”’s father, in a remote area between Mueang and Huai Yot districts. However, the suspect had fled before police arrived. In the latest developments, armed police forces, including the elite Sri Trang SWAT unit, have surrounded the Bandon mountain range in Nam Phut subdistrict, where it is believed the suspects are hiding. The area, part of the Khao Pu–Khao Ya National Park, is known to the fugitives, particularly “Taem”, who previously lived there. Police have been distributing wanted posters and urging locals to report sightings via the emergency number 191. Local officials confirmed the manhunt has focused on around 27 forest huts (known as khnams), often used by rubber plantation workers. Officers believe the suspects may be using these as hideouts, supported by the challenging terrain and dense forest, which covers over 2,000 rai. Village headman Sawat Khunnui, 58, from Ban Khao Lak in Moo 7, confirmed that “Taem” was originally from the area and had worked as a school van driver before relocating to Sikao with his wife. He expressed shock at “Taem”’s alleged involvement, describing him as previously mild-mannered. He appealed for the suspect to surrender peacefully. Despite the scale of the operation, local villagers have remained calm. Many are familiar with conflict, having lived through past unrest when the area was a former communist stronghold. Police have stated clearly that if the fugitives resist arrest, officers have orders to shoot. However, operations will proceed gradually, escalating only if necessary. Intelligence suggests all four suspects are armed. Deputy Commander of Region 9 Police, Pol Col Sakda Charoenkul, has also led simultaneous raids on five properties connected to the suspects, including the home of a former Trang defence volunteer believed to have links to “Bin”. Though no direct evidence has yet been found, police remain determined to bring the suspects to justice and warn that any individuals found to be harbouring them will face legal consequences. The investigation continues to unfold with intensity, as authorities seek to bring closure to one of the most disturbing multiple murder cases in recent memory. In the ongoing crackdown on transnational crime, Myanmar’s Border Guard Force (BGF) in Myawaddy has handed over 90 Ethiopian nationals involved in illicit call centre operations run by the so-called “Grey Chinese” network. The repatriation operation took place across the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge II, located at Ban Wang Takhian Tai in Mae Sot District, Tak Province. The group, consisting of 73 men and 17 women, had been apprehended in Myawaddy, Karen State, opposite Thailand’s Mae Sot, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal operations in the border region. The individuals were officially received by Mr Wendwosen Melkamu, Deputy Secretary of the Ethiopian Embassy in India, who will facilitate their return to their home country. Following their handover, Thai immigration authorities in Tak recorded the group’s biometric and identity data in accordance with local procedures. The repatriation will proceed with logistical arrangements from the Ethiopian authorities. Colonel Natthakorn Rueantip, commander of the Rachamanu Special Task Force in Mae Sot, stated that Thai authorities have continually supported cross-border cooperation in the crackdown on foreign criminal activity. Since the beginning of this operation, over 8,000 foreign nationals have already been repatriated, with more than 1,200 still remaining in Myanmar, including over 300 Chinese nationals, as well as individuals from Ethiopia and Vietnam. Colonel Natthakorn emphasised that while Thailand is ready to assist with deportations at any time, the process often depends on the readiness and willingness of the respective embassies and home countries to receive their nationals. The ongoing efforts are part of a broader regional campaign to eradicate illegal call centre operations that have exploited vulnerable individuals across Southeast Asia, often under coercive or deceptive circumstances. Picture courtesy of Amarin A pregnant woman and a male were killed after being struck by lightning in the middle of a field while helping to harvest eucalyptus trees for sale. The incident occurred on 14 May in Ban Jai Dee, Moo 10, Jai Dee Subdistrict, Khukhan District, Sisaket Province. Both victims suffered severe injuries and were rushed to Khukhan Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The victims were identified as Mr Chanon Mooljad 36 and Ms Uraiwan Potthisan 35, who was more than seven months pregnant. They had been assisting with cutting down eucalyptus trees intended for sale when the fatal lightning strike occurred. At the scene evidence of the strike was visible beneath a tree in the middle of the field. Two pairs of shoes and some blood were found at the site. The tree showed clear signs of having been struck, with broken branches scattered around. Mr Narongrit Chanthong, 30, the husband of Ms Uraiwan, recounted the heartbreaking sequence of events. He explained that he had contracted to cut and sell eucalyptus trees for 5,000 baht and had brought his pregnant wife and a friend to assist. During a rain shower, he had gone to deliver a load of wood to a buyer. Upon returning to the field, he found both his wife and his friend lying unconscious beneath the tree. He immediately called emergency services and the Sawangjit Sisaket Thammasathan Foundation’s Khukhan unit for help. Despite attempts to revive the victims and rushing them to hospital, both succumbed to their injuries. Investigators from Khukhan Police Station have since visited the site to collect evidence and begin a full inquiry into the incident. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-05-15.

Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A gold theft that took place at a shopping mall in Udon Thani province remains unsolved after 18 days, prompting the jewellery shop to offer a 50,000 baht reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. The incident occurred at 19:04 on 26 April, when a lone thief dressed in a food delivery rider’s uniform entered the mall and robbed a gold shop at gunpoint, escaping with 23 baht-weight of gold necklaces, worth approximately 1.1 million baht. The suspect used a fake firearm and fled the scene on a yellow Honda Click motorcycle without a licence plate. Despite swift action by mall staff and police, the suspect evaded capture, throwing away the fake gun before speeding off. CCTV footage and witness reports have since helped investigators piece together his movements both before and after the heist. Police Colonel Phattanawong Janphon, superintendent of Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, held a joint meeting with local and regional investigators to assess the progress. It was revealed that the suspect had scouted the area in the Nong Sai community prior to the robbery and approached the mall via the Sakhon Nakhon bypass. He parked his motorcycle in front of the mall, entered through the right-hand entrance, and carried out the robbery in just one minute. His escape route took him through Udon Thani city, where he was briefly held up by a passing train at Nong Bua market’s level crossing. From there, he continued through the railway community and Wat Pa Nong Kaew, changed into a black jacket, and headed toward Mittraphap Road in the direction of Nong Khai, after which he vanished. Authorities have appealed to the public, particularly motorists who may have had dashcams running at the railway crossing, to check their footage and report any useful images. Citizens who recognise the suspect’s attire, helmet, or motorcycle have also been urged to come forward. So far, four individuals have been identified as potential suspects, but DNA testing has ruled them out. Police have also coordinated with delivery companies to identify all registered riders in the area using a yellow Honda Click. Although some information has been obtained, no significant leads have emerged. Investigations are also focusing on over 8,000 known offenders in Udon Thani, as well as individuals in neighbouring provinces such as Nong Khai and Nong Bua Lamphu. The shop has pledged a 50,000 baht reward for any tip-offs leading to the arrest of the perpetrator. Picture from responders. A deeply disturbing discovery has shocked local residents in Chiang Mai after the body of a newborn baby was found floating in the Ping River, trapped at a sluice gate in the Pa Daet area of Mueang District. The body, gender and age unconfirmed, is believed to be that of a newborn infant as the umbilical cord was still attached. The corpse was already decomposing, suggesting it had been in the water for some time. A worker from Chiang Mai’s Irrigation Project, checking the water levels at the dam, initially spotted what appeared to be animal remains drifting in the current. Upon closer inspection using a mobile phone camera, it was revealed to be the body of a baby. Authorities were immediately contacted. Rescue workers used a local fisherman’s net to retrieve the remains from the water. Police officers photographed the scene for evidence before transferring the body to the forensic department at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital. A post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of death and DNA tests will be conducted to help identify the mother. Investigators are also checking local hospitals for recent births or antenatal care records in hopes of locating the woman responsible. The exact location where the baby was discarded is currently unknown, as the Ping River flows through many areas. Adapted by Asean Now 2025-05-15.

Picture courtesy of Amarin. A young woman received a electric shock and collapsed in full view of police officers and reporters at Phra Samut Chedi Police Station in the early hours of the morning of 14 May, after plugging in her phone charger at the public service area. The incident occurred at around 04:30 as Police Sub-Lieutenant Weera Wutthisiri was taking a statement from Mr Patiphat 22, who had earlier reported being shot at by a group of youths near the old pier in Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan. While officers and several journalists were present, Mr Patiphat’s friend, Ms Yatika, 23, was waiting in the public seating area of the station. She plugged her mobile phone, using a two-metre charging cable, into a wall socket to charge the device. According to eyewitnesses, shortly after plugging in her phone, Ms Yatika cried out suddenly, before collapsing backward off the chair and convulsing on the ground. Officers, Mr Patiphat, and nearby reporters rushed to assist. A mobile phone charger cable was found lying beside her body, still connected to the wall socket. It was immediately removed and basic first aid was administered while emergency services were contacted. Ms Yatika was later transported to a nearby hospital. At the hospital, she was reportedly disoriented and had difficulty responding to questions. Medical staff observed blistering injuries on the back of her right hand, consistent with electrical burns. Mr Patiphat, recounting the events, stated that he and a friend had been attacked and shot at around 02:30, prompting him to report the assault to police. Ms Yatika had arrived later to support him during the legal process. While he was giving his statement, she attempted to charge her phone before the incident occurred. He said he had no idea where she had bought the charger or how it could have caused an electric shock. Investigations are ongoing into whether the charger, electrical outlet, or other factors were responsible for the incident. Police officials have not commented on the safety of the station’s electrical facilities, but the incident has raised concerns over equipment standards and public safety at official premises. Drug-Addicted Son Arrested After Cutting Motorbike Brakes in Attempt to Harm Parents Picture courtesy of Amarin. Picture courtesy of Amarin. Police in Buriram province have arrested a 29-year-old man accused of repeatedly terrorising his elderly parents, culminating in an alleged attempt to cause them fatal harm by cutting the brake cables on their motorbike. Officers from Non Suwan Police Station were called to investigate after the elderly couple, residents of Non Suwan District, sought urgent assistance. They reported that their son, Mr Manatchai, had been violently unstable due to ongoing drug addiction. According to the parents, he routinely destroyed property, threatened them for money, and became violent when refused. In a deeply troubling revelation, the parents stated, their son deliberately cut the brake lines on the motorcycle they used daily, in what they believe was a calculated attempt to cause a fatal accident. The man is also alleged to have a history of severe domestic abuse. In 2023, while his niece was still a secondary school student, he reportedly assaulted her so badly that she suffered a swollen spleen and bruised kidneys. Although she was hospitalised for a time, long-term complications contributed to her death in late April 2025. He is also said to have carried knives, secretly manufactured firearms in his parents’ home and threatened anyone who confronted him. Police moved to arrest Mr Manatchai and initial urine testing confirmed the presence of narcotics in his system. He confessed to drug use but denied harming his parents or tampering with their vehicle. He did, however, admit to the previous assault on his niece, claiming he had already faced punishment for that offence. He has now been charged with illegal drug use and investigators are gathering further evidence to determine whether additional charges, such as attempted murder or criminal damage, should be filed. When visited at the police station, the suspect’s parents brought food and rice but insisted they would not post bail. “He is still our son,” his mother said, “but we cannot go on living in fear like this. It’s been over ten years of violence and threats. He never changes.” The family expressed relief at the arrest, noting their advanced age and the years of suffering they have endured. They said they still hope their son will eventually overcome his addiction and return to a normal, peaceful life. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-05-15.

Thai police have arrested two administrators behind illegal online gambling websites, seizing assets worth over 10 million baht in a major crackdown that could lead to further high-level arrests. In a press briefing at Nakhon Pathom Provincial Police Headquarters on 14 May, authorities announced the arrest of seven individuals connected to two gambling websites, pananthai and play.surinam888, both reportedly operated from Mueang District in Nakhon Pathom. The suspects include 30-year-old Mr Karakot and 24-year-old Ms Sasiporn, who are believed to be the primary operators of the illicit platforms. Investigations led to arrest warrants being issued, followed by coordinated raids on 10 locations: four in Nakhon Pathom, five in Bangkok, and one in Chonburi. Seized items include: • A red Ford sedan and a grey Ford Ranger pickup truck • One 9mm handgun with 40 rounds of ammunition • Four desktop computers, four laptops, five routers • Two mobile phones and one iPad • 17 bank passbooks and two ATM cards • Various personal items branded with gambling website logos, including tumblers, luggage, blankets, and t-shirts Seven other suspects have also been identified and are under investigation: Mr Thongchai (31), Mr Waratchathorn (30), Mr Charoen (28), Mr Noraphan (25), Mr Phuchong (33), Mr Thanakorn (22), and Ms Nathamon (26). Mr Karakot faces an additional charge in Chonburi for failing to report a change of residence, while Ms Sasiporn has been charged under a warrant issued by the Bangkok Criminal Court. Authorities discovered the website servers were hosted in Nakhon Pathom. Police are now expanding the investigation, focusing on potential links between the gambling network and high-ranking government officials or military personnel. Should such connections be substantiated, further arrest warrants will be issued. The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are determined to pursue all leads and bring all those involved to justice. Adapted by Asean Now from Workpoint 2025-05-15.

Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A remote community in Mae Sariang District, Mae Hong Son province, was forced to carry a seriously ill man on a homemade litter, under a bamboo pole, through heavy rain and treacherous conditions for nearly five hours after landslides and flash floods severed all road access to the nearest hospital. The incident occurred late night on 13 May, after continuous downpours triggered flooding and washed away key roads in the area. Villagers in Ban Mae Hia, Saohin sub-district, were unable to summon emergency transport due to the impassable conditions. The patient, identified as Mr Sompong, had been suffering from severe lower abdominal pain due to a hernia that had descended into the scrotal area. He also reported vomiting three times, a mild fever, and a burning sensation below the sternum, all symptoms raising concern for a potentially serious medical condition. With no viable vehicle route to medical care, local residents decided to act. In an extraordinary show of community effort, they carried Mr Sompong on a litter through dense forest and difficult terrain, battling rain and mud throughout the night. The group finally reached the Salachiangtong Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital at 03:00, nearly five hours after their journey began. Medical staff at the rural facility had been coordinating remotely with Mae Sariang Hospital in anticipation of the patient’s arrival. Mr Sompong was immediately attended to, thanks in part to pre-arranged online consultation between local health workers and hospital specialists. This act of heroism once again highlights the resilience of remote communities and the ongoing challenges posed by extreme weather in mountainous regions. In a coordinated operation, military personnel from the Burapha Task Force, in collaboration with officials from the Sa Kaeo Excise Department, intercepted two separate attempts to smuggle contraband cigarettes destined for Bangkok. The raids were carried out in Ta Phraya and Aranyaprathet districts, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of large quantities of illegal goods. The first operation was conducted by the Ta Phraya Task Force Unit and Border Patrol Police Unit 12, acting on intelligence reports of illicit cigarette trafficking near Ban Noen Sombun, Ta Phraya Subdistrict. Upon arrival at the specified location, authorities apprehended two suspects in possession of a closed-bed vehicle suspected to be used for smuggling. A search of the vehicle revealed 42,810 packs of foreign cigarettes, concealed in the rear compartment. The suspects and evidence were handed over to the Ta Phraya Police Station for legal proceedings. Simultaneously, in Aranyaprathet District, the Khlong Hat Task Force Unit, paramilitary forces from Regiment 13, and officers from Khlong Hat Police Station and the Sa Kaeo Excise Department stopped another suspicious vehicle leaving the Khlong Wa Mai community in Tambon Thap Phrik. A thorough inspection uncovered 10 methamphetamine pills (classified as a Category 1 narcotic), as well as 46,000 packs of untaxed foreign cigarettes and counterfeit products. During interrogation, the driver admitted to being hired by Cambodian nationals to transport the contraband across the border via natural routes, with the goods intended for distribution in Bangkok. He claimed to receive 12,000 baht per delivery. However, the operation was thwarted before he could complete the delivery. The suspect and all seized items were transferred to Khlong Nam Sai Police Station in Aranyaprathet for further investigation and prosecution. Authorities confirmed that operations to combat smuggling and cross-border illegal trade will continue, with increased surveillance in high-risk border areas. Two Cambodian nationals have filed a police complaint on 14 May, against a well-known Thai vocational-style influencer and his associates, accusing them of physically assaulting them inside a prominent shopping mall in the Samrong area. The victims insist they did nothing wrong and deny any links to a gang known as “BK Khmer”. The incident reportedly occurred around 16:00 on 11 May, on the fifth floor of the mall, where the two men were sitting peacefully outside a drinks shop. According to their account, the influencer, recognised online for his association with Thai vocational subculture, approached them with a group of five to six individuals. One of the victims, speaking at Samrong Nuea Police Station, claimed the group grabbed him by the neck, forced him into a chair, and repeatedly punched him in the face. His younger brother, who was with him, was allegedly slapped and kicked, suffering injuries in the process. “I asked them, ‘What did I do wrong?’” the older brother recounted. “One of them asked if we were part of the BK Khmer group. I said no, but they wouldn’t listen. They just kept beating me. Then they dragged me to a corner with no CCTV and asked if I was going to file a complaint. I said yes, I didn’t do anything wrong and don’t deserve this. After that, they disappeared.” He firmly denied any association with gangs or illegal activity, saying both he and his brother are legally employed construction workers in Thailand. “We were just sitting there, not causing any trouble. I want to take this all the way through legal channels. This shouldn’t happen to anyone,” he said. Police at Samrong Nuea Station have acknowledged receipt of the complaint and confirmed an investigation is now underway. The names of the suspects, including the influencer, have not yet been officially disclosed. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-05-15.

Police Colonel Patikorn Sornchai, Deputy Commander of Chonburi Provincial Police, presided over a firearms training exercise aimed at enhancing the skills and readiness of police officers from Sattahip Police Station. The session took place at the Naval Special Warfare Command’s shooting range in Samae San, Sattahip District. The refresher course focused on the handling and use of handguns and shotguns, with the objective of improving accuracy, confidence, and overall preparedness during high-risk operations. Leading the reception and coordination was Police Colonel Komsan Kumtunkaew, Superintendent of Sattahip Police Station, who welcomed the Deputy Commander and oversaw participation from 32 officers. In his address, Pol. Col. Patikorn stressed the increasing dangers faced by police officers in the line of duty, particularly during anti-narcotics operations, where suspects often resist arrest. He emphasised that regular training is essential to reducing the risk of injury or death among law enforcement personnel. “Training is a vital tool to help officers become more confident and competent in using firearms. With regular drills and skill development, officers are better equipped to protect themselves and the public while carrying out their duties effectively,” he stated. The training session included a live demonstration by both the Deputy Commander and the Sattahip Police Chief, who showcased precise shotgun techniques to the attending officers. This initiative forms part of the broader strategy to ensure that police officers remain physically and mentally prepared for the challenges of modern policing, especially in high-threat scenarios involving drug-related crime.
