  1. I'm an Australian living here over 10 years I've lost a good portion of my vision due to negligence here and i would be technically classified as partially blind if i was in Australia. Don't do it and if you have to go to the Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok which is a large hospital that only works on eyes. My Dr there although Thai trained and learned to become a Doctor and specialist in the USA.

  2. Thanks guys for the feedback,as a Bangkokian I was planning on bringing my grand daughters down to Patts after Songkhran & when I was last in the area in Dec 2013 it looked fairly quite on the construction phase !!!

Maybe you mean the cartoon network water park, it is progressing at a pace but i don't think due to be open till end of this year.

Cartoon Network is promoting that they will open in July. The owners will launch 5 different stages of the waterpark over the next few years.

  3. Interesting read on retina problems. In America, procedures as described above are done by a retinologist and not an ophthalmologist.

This is correct if you have problems with your Retinas they should only be treated by a Retinal Specialist.

People who are short sighted are the most likely to have a retinal detachment as the shape of their eyeball is different and it pulls on the retinal membrane which makes it easier for detachment or tear.

Statistics show that 1 in 10,000 people will suffer from a retinal detachment - I've had a few so my odds are against the wind.

If you have a large flash in your eye or repeated flashes don't waste time go and get it checked immediately - if it detaches or tears you have around 24 hours to get it fixed before the retinal membrane starts to die.

  4. Regarding pain - after having numerous major back of eye retinal surgeries the fact of the matter is your eye has no internal pain rectors it is the muscle and nerves around the outer of the eye that is where the pain comes from. I had 2 full invasive surgeries in 2 consecutive days first being under general anaesthetic but the 2nd under local because I could not have 2 generals in 2 days the 2nd although local and my eye blacked out I could still partially see the instruments working around inside my eye but I had no pain due to the locals injected into the muscles around the outer of my eye

  5. I had a detached retina at the end of 2011, BH rayong were not able to do the op, but said BH pattaya could some four days later, i instead had the op done at the EENT hospital in Bangkok for a third of the cost and two days earlier than Pattaya.

In september I had a cataract op in the same eye in the UK, My eye sight is clouding over again and i will need a secondary cataract op done later this year, due to waiting lists in the UK. I would fully recommend the EENT hospital in Bankok.

Would i risk having an eye operation that wasn't necessary - no way, i lost the sight in my right eye as a result of the retina detachment, (only for a few days until it was restored in Bangkok), it was not a pleasant experience, and in fact quite frightening, seeing through one eye only, is something that your brain would compensate for a little, but you would always have a blind spot, driving would be harder and your head would be bobbing around like watching a tennis match.

Would i have both eyes operated on , on the same day, - again no way, only a fool would risk their eyesight that way.

    Further to my last post.

That is my problem, I have had 3 detached retinas in the same eye and during the first operation the doctor misfired with the laser and damaged my macula for which I cannot see out of - I later found out he went and worked at one of the other international hospitals got kicked out there abd then opened up his own private practice.

Rutnin in Bangkok is the only choice - their hospital only works on eyes nothing else and a lot of their Thai Doctors were trained in the US.

  6. I am half blind in one eye due to negligence of a Doctor no longer working there I have had 3 major eye operations since and would only use Rutnin they are the best - I have follow up visits at Rutnin every 3 months and will need more surgeries because of negligence.

  7. Now I'm a self confessed lover of Chinese food and we have tried most if not all of the Chinese Restaurants in this town for some are very good.

But last night we discovered a new and absolute gem.

It is an authentic Chinese Restaurant actually run by a Husband and Wife team who are Chinese and speak no English or Thai - they do speak Russian though.

The food was real Chinese food plus their menu had some western style Chinese dishes.

The menu is 95% in Chinese writing all with photos.

The food was stunning, huge servings and the best I have tried in this town in my 10 years here.

Testament was the fact that the kids wanted more.

5 huge dishes, rice and drinks 840 Baht.

Now don't expect a lavish decor, it's typical of a small Chinese restaurant in China. Has some signs out front in english saying Chinese restaurant.

They don't cook with MSG - I showed them the Chinese word for thqt on my phone and they said no.

Now the restaurant is a little out of the way, it is about 150 metres from Sukhumvit Road on the right hand side of Soi Neurn Plub Wann or Sukhumvit Soi 53 - don't blink or you will miss it.

Worth the effort to get there easy parking across the road in the night time when the shops are closed across the road.

Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

  9. bazmlb, with the greatest respect everyone on here knows after you praised dicey's burger special on here on another topic that you are a friend of the guy that runs dicey's and that you are slightly biassed. I have no problem with that. But one special doesn't make a great bar, and the more specials you have to promote, then the less confident that you are in the bars ability to stand on it's reputation.

The fact is that dicey's promotes itself as a Pub/Restaurant/Sports bar, but in actual fact the whole layout and price structure of the bar is wrong. If you want to be a busy restaurant, why would you put a very large circular bar smack bang in the middle of your main selling area, and lose two thirds of your space. The bar should have been placed on the wall opposite the kitchens. That way people who wanted to watch sport would not have to walk past dining tables to get to the bar.

As for the prices of your drinks, the last time i was in there i was charged 130 baht for a pint of tiger, i can get that same pint anywhere in pattaya for a maximum of 99 baht, but far worse was being charged 80 baht for a bottle of water.I would love you to tell me how many people who come in for the nightly specials, actually stay on to buy drinks at the none special prices. I would guess very few.

I applaud you for putting up decking outside, but I don't think that this will impact to much on your trade. At the end of the day you are a trying to promote yourself as a bar that is also showing sports from all over the world, but you are charging top hotel prices for your drinks. As i said how many customers after they have eaten the specials actually stay to watch sports, and pay the inflated drink prices.

Baz is actually sells advertising for Thai Visa site maybe that's the motivation - tic toc tic toc till this gets deleted

  10. Regarding the Avenue and all the closed shops the fact is all of the closed and boarded up shops actually have 30 year leases on them which were prepaid at very cheap rates prior to the construction of the Avenue but unlike most shopping centre contracts there was no clause stating they had to open for trade everyday otherwise they would lose their lease. Siam Futures the owners of the centre have tried several times now in court to remove these lease owners but the court has ruled in favour of the lease owners just another reason why California WOW site is still not leased. So what you have is a load of lease squatters who are holding the centre to ransom by demanding ridiculous sub lease rates for their sites rather than open them. The contracts were sold and contracted by a very high profile property firm in Pattaya well before the centre opened who used contracts that did not force shop keeper's to open or lose their lease. Another reason why they simply couldn't demolish the site and start again as one would suggest.

Your excuse is getting boring, don't you tire of flogging a dead horse? The Avenue has been a dead duck from the day it was conceived . An open air high class mall in a Tropical country. I think I would prefer to invest my money in pixy dust.

You have now made so many posts defending the place it is no longer even funny, please stop.

    No

  15. Helium in welding? Not saying its wrong but sounds surprising for an inert gas?

There is a party shop upstairs in the avenue, never been in but maybe worth asking.

Argon is more common, but Helium is used as well, particularly in mixes. (Heliarc is a trade name for TIG welding)

Party shop should have it, but they generally just get it from a welding supply.

I'm amazed how people know so much about our business - I never knew we purchased our helium from a welding supply company, I am sure we order from TIG.

Anyway, helium to order can be very a expensive proposition as there is only 1 size tank they will supply which is expensive, then there is about a 10k security deposit on the tank, plus delivery charge, plus you then need a specialised regulator that is designed for balloons which they won't rent to you and you have to purchase which I think costs about 5 or 6k.

To order from TIG you first have to apply for an account with them this took us about 3 weeks if my memory serves me correct.

Please stay away from balloons street or market sellers as they use hydrogen and if this sparks ie hot light globe it will explode into a fireball and can severely injure your children.
