  1. I'm about to move to Phuket.

Can those of you with relative knowledge make a contribution on schools in Phuket please.

    Thanks.

Apologies, I don't seem to be able to amend the previous post.

I'm about to move to Phuket.

Can someone make a contribution on schools in Phuket please.

Also, I am weighing up "Thai System combined with English Program" vs "International School" routes.

I cannot discount the Thai system as I have met a Thai person who went through the Thai educational system and graduated a Thai University, I found this person to be well educated, well manered, hard working individual with a good job, own house and car, overall getting on well in life.

    Thanks.

    Regards

  3. Hello,

Myself, my Thai wife and our new born are relocating from UK to Phuket May 2009, at which time my wife's 100% Thai 6 year old daughter will be joining us from Nakhon Sawan where she currenty attends a Thai School.

In Phuket, there is the "British International School", which I am assuming is the best in education available on the island ?

There are also other international schools, "Rawaii Progressive International School", but here they do not teach secondary level.

Also, there are the Thai government schools with English Programs.

I would like to give both children equal opporutunity, I hadn't anticipated the fees of the British International School.

I would like a few pionters if I may, I do not know the difference in the level in education received from these different schools, all I see so far is a great difference in school fees. Is the level of education receieved also so different ?

As every parent, I would like both girls to go onto University and provide them a good footing ready for the their own lives. It would be selfish of me If I were to deprive them of a good education by trying to save a few baht. There again, I do not want to throw money away needlessly, putting them in the most expensive school for fear they would not receive a good education elsewhere.

    Thank you for your advice.

    Regards

    Arran and Joy.

  4. Hello

My Thai wife and I relocate from UK to Phuket May 2009.

My wife has a daughter aged 6 from a preivous relationship with a Thai partner. She currently attends a Thai Chatholic School in Nakhon Sawan, once we have chosen an area of Phuket to live in and are settled we will bring her down and enroll her in a local school.

Also we have just had our new born daughter, she is just over a week old.

I would like a similar good standard of education for both of daughters.

My wife has said she would be happy for her 6 year old to carry on attending a Catholic Thai School and for our new born to attend the International School. Due to the cost difference between these schools I think the level of education would also differ, maybe significantly ? I would like to treat both of our daughters equally and give them both the same opportunities in life.

I know there is an International school in Phuket and believe the fees are somewhere near 300,000 per year, but I don't know what other schools there maybe, for example Thai Catholic and how they compare or whether they teach english ?

I'm open to general advice and would like to learn your own experience regards putting Thai and Thai/Fallang Children through education in Phuket ?

    Thanks for your responses.

    Regards

    Arran and Joy.

  5. Hello,

My Thai Wife, new born daughter and myself are relocating to Thailand next year.

What are the typical financing deals available in Thailand when buying new and second-hand cars?

I can get approx a 10% return on my money. I'm considering whether to use cash or financing when buying a car.

    Thank you.

    Regards

    Arran.

Tell us where you can get 10% on your money. You are likely not eligible for financing here.

Brandeaux Student Accomodation Fund, based in Sterling, its invested in key worker and student accomodation therefore gives a steady return, approx 10%, you can find it on www.bloomberg.com or www.morningstar.co.uk. Not correlated with the stock market.

  7. Hi, when you go to the Thai Embassy in London to get your kids Thai passport, you can print off the aplication forms for the passport and birth certificate at the same time. http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/birthpp_en.html It takes about 6 weeks to recieve the passport and BC although our son's took 10 weeks but my wifes's friends took 5 weeks even though we handed our documents in at the same time.

    Hope this helps.

P.S. Some people will tell you to make an appointment but others will say not to bother, we did and it made no difference we had to wait 2 1/2 hours at the embassy, it's a couple of small rooms in the basement. When we arrived at 9:30 for our appointment it was heaving already (It opens 9:30 - 12:30 only) left at 12 and it was empty so might be worth turning up at about 11:30.

    Good luck.

    Thanks Brigante.

  8. First you will need to get a single entry non immigrant O visa.

Then you can apply for a 1 year extension of stay if you can prove 40,000 baht income per month.

See page 8 clause 7.17 of police order for requirements.

    Link to police order: http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/2notice/rtp606EN.pdf

Have you gotten a passport for your child yet. If you register the childs birth at the Thai consulate and get a passport a visa would not be needed for your child.

    Yes, Thanks.

I have contacted the Thai embassey abourt passport for my child, will need to get a thai birth certificate so I can renew the childs passport in Thailand when it expires after 5 years. However, I don't know the minimum time it will take to get the certificate and passport? We go Thailand for 1 month holiday in february, then stay UK for 2 months in March and April. The return Thailand in May to live.

  9. Hello,

My Thai Wife and our new born baby are moving from the UK to Thailand sometime next year.

When traveling to Thailand before I was married, I would get a 1 year Non Immigrant 'O' visa from Hull, which would require me to return to the UK once per year to have it renewed.

What are my options now I am married to a Thai national with our new born child. Do I need to return every year to the UK to renew a visa?

I can support my family whilst in Thailand without working, I am 38 years and a British National, my wife is Thai and our child is therefore half Thai half Britiish.

Thanks very much for your info.

    Regards

    Arran.

  10. Hello,

My soon to be wife is pregnant, our baby is due november, I am a British National working in Belgium.

She currently has a UK fiancee visa, after we marry in the UK we may decide to live/work in Belgium and apply for the "Reunification of Spouse Visa" for long stay in Belgium.

Whilst i Belgium, what in terms of health care is/are she/we entitled to leading up to delivery, delivery and post delivery of our baby from Belgium Health Care System.

    Regards

    Arran.

  11. We plan to marry in the UK.

Your Thai fiancee should be resident in the UK 7 days prior to giving notice, as proof of this the registrer asks you to confirm this in writing.

You yourself if living in the UK, can take a long your bank statement or a utility bill with your UK address. If you cannot provide these because you do not live in the UK then you will also need to be resident in the UK 7 days prior to giving notice.

Your Thai fiancee will need to show her faincee visa.

You both will need to show your passports.

After giving notice, I'm not sure if you have to spend the next 16 days in the UK after which of course you can get married.

    Regards

    A

  12. We intend to stay in europe for the next 3 to 4 years to accrue savings. However, with my work I have the choice to work in almost any european country.

As I am a British Citizen are there reasons we should give priority to choosing the UK?

I don't know, but would my thai wife after 3 or 4 years living in UK be eligible for a British passport?

If we lived and worked in Belgium for th next 3 to 4 years would she be eligible to a Belgian passport ?

Having a european passport would open up many more locations for future holidays.

    Regards

  13. The "return" could be for as little as a one-day holiday. "Surinder Singh" cases benefit from all of the relevant EEA regulations, and that includes the initial presumption of three-month entry without having to be exercising a treaty right.

However, in this case, it's not clear whether theOP's girlfriend can at this stage be considered to be a family member.

    Scouse.

We have recently been approved a UK fiancee visa and plan to marry this summer.

    1. In the mean-time I am still working in Belgium. So now we submit application for a Shangen visa so we can stay together in Brussels until we marry.

    2. After marrying in the UK, I believe we then apply for a Reunification of Spouse Visa (Type D) at the Belgian Embassy in London or Brussels. This visa entitles us to stay together long term in Belgium.

    3. After establishing the Re-unification of Spouse visa for long stay in Belgium, I don't yet know what is necessary to allow us to visit extended family at weekends in the UK.

    Arran.

  14. Perhaps you may ask the Belgium Embassy to grant your girlfriend a visa as an extended family member, based on a "durable relationship" with a EEA national.

After your girlfriend is considered as a lawful resident in Belgium on this basis, she may apply for an EEA family permit to visit the UK with you.

    Yes, you are right.

I checked with the Belgium Embassy in Bangkok and they say a Co-habitation visa is needed for stay in Belgium.

Then for weekend trip(s) to go visit family the UK when staying in Belgium can apply for Shangen visa(s) .

    Regards

    Arran.

  15. Hello,

I maybe be working my job in the UK over the net from Thailand, could you please comment of your experience of the ADSL in phuket ?

I would be required to work from 8am until 6pm monday to friday and occasionally thru the night, these are GMT/BST times so add 6 or 7 hours for thailand ie. 2pm until mid-night and occasionally thru the nigth and early morning.

    Thanks.

    Regards

    Arran.

  16. Yea, good luck. I did it, it CAN be done. Check out the University towns. More English speaking non-pros there. :o

    Now thats an idea.

I check out thai dateing website regularly, but checking the university towns is a good idea.

Which are the top university 5 towns in thailand?

  17. Good luck dude, doesn't sound like a "great" plan, but I'm sure you know what you are doing.

    Do you speak Thai?

Might make the girlfriend thing a bit tough if not.

Have you ever been here before?

Find girlfriend, have kids sit back and chill...... :o be cool if you can pull it off...

Pooh thai die nidnio khap! and would like to learn to speak more.

Been here 7 or 8 times since january 2005.

    Thanks.

  18. Two and a half years in the planning and I am finally moving to thailand, tickets booked for end of october and finances properly arranged.

    Any advice ?

What are you going to do once here ?? Work , travel or just veg ???

Long Term / Actual reason for coming to thailand

    ---------------------------------------------------------

Probably settle down, have some children, relax, devote time to family and sailing.

    Short Term

    -------------

Book into a hotel for 4 to 8 weeks, look for house to rent in quiet area to use as a base, with a few restaurant nearby.

    Medium Term

    ----------------

Watch movies on cable tv, surf on the internet, look for girl friend, travel to and visit different areas of thailand.

Do little bit exercise, go drinking at bar little bit, eat out at local restaurants.

I think major challenges, are occupying my time as I easily get bored and keeping a general fitness thru little bit of exercise.
