1. ok, the water is back this morning. It's a rush on the washing machine, shower and bathrooms for everyone here :)

I'm surprised we seem to be the only one in the area as the water company told us it was global, butin the same time I'm happy it was not as I don't wish it to anybody.

Guzzy is right, we will insist to the owner for a tank.pump installation.

Well aren't you lucky? In Cosy Beach we've been without mains supply for a week now. I have a small tank, but even with thrifty use I need a refill nearly every day. I'm about to order my fourth.

I'm also in Cosy Beach area and today is day number 8 WITHOUT ANY WATER !! And what is worse: we don't have any tank on the roof of our 3-floor shophouse.... :realangry:

Actually this is a BIG scandal! Every day we call water department, we get the same answer: "Tonight it will be fixed..." -- This answer we got from the 3rd day on already.

In many ways Thailand still is a BANANA Kingdom! Grrrrr... And than they are surprised that less and less tourists are coming to LOS, well i'm not.................... Amen

@ vediovis: i wouldn't rely too much on asking a tank to the landlord, TiT you know.... 7 years ago i asked for the same in my previous place, but the answer was very simple: "you want a tank and a pump ? Well buy it yourself...."

  2. :cheesy:

well, there's a Half A Billion Baht gone.

    .

I hate to be negative, but wouldn't it be a lot cheaper to just reverse some of the stupid tourist visa regulations that they recently added?

..Or perhaps stop requiring their tourists to go to a neighboring country anytime they want an extended visa to stay longer in Thailand.

Why spend so much money when there are dozens of practically free solutions to the problem...

Unfortunately i'm afraid this really is asked way TOOOO much to a bunch of incapable people in Bangkok (and other places all over the Kingdom).

There is a saying :"After action there will be a (positive) re-action" ; But i really never see this happen in a "democracy" with so many low educated people (or they think they are not low educated) on top of the corruption gang, and then the sub top and then the sub-sub top..... Poor Thailand <_<

So please, forget the wishful thinking "....when there are dozens of practically free solutions to the problem."

  3. OK, the details of the murder just made me f---ing sick. Good thing there was that "...in related news..." at the end of the article to take my attention away from the main headline... omFg...

Who says it happened the way they mentioned ? Nobody will ever know, TiT................

  4. The time-line in this story is a little confusing.

21 year-old...............here for 4 years.............refugee status, how long was his period of persecution? 1 year?...............Syrian Army commando (2 years training??).

21.............17............16..............14???? The Syrian Army trains 14 year-olds as commandos?? I smell pork pies.

You took the words right out of my mouth !!!! This story stinks !! Or is the Nation again doing some... GUESSING ?

  5. there's another one in Soi Yume near Carrefoiur. My secretary calls them, they pick up the car and bring it back after cleaning...100 Baht

Are you sure they bring back the car ?:whistling:;)

  6. There are only 8 words that cause me any concern when reading this article.

"climbed into a restricted area with nine tigers"

From these words we can deduct that this man made the decision to cross a physical barrier to get to these tigers. Has he just come from Disney World?

Definately worth a nomination for the Darwin award.

AND the biggest fool on earth ! Maybe one of those many drunk Scandinavians who think, when they arrive in Thailand, this is their playground, can do what they want and nothing can happen.... All the past 20 years i've seen TOO many of them in Pattaya and other places.... no words for it !

  7. I find it amusing the amount of people who do have helmets and only put them on their heads as they pass a policeman.... soon as they are past the helmet is back off the head into the front basket.

I find it amusing when police is directing foot traffic in the morning in front of schools but everyone drives by them with out a helmet.

I guess that is not their job right now.

RIGHT ! This really makes me angry because i know they MOSTLY stop me when i drive my bike and wear my helmet, but they always try to find any reason to get money out of my pockets. And this happens to many farangs while those youngsters drive and race before the police's nose, without helmet or driving license, not even 13 or 14 years old ! THIS MAKES ME ANGRY !!

Where is the responsibillity of the government, the police, the school heads and teachers...? It's all ONE bunch of apes who don't give a shit !!

  8. You guys bitch about having more then 2 on bikes and helmet quality, you go pay for an extra bike or car and a nice helmet for a poor thai family then. They don't even have mosquetto nets or shutters and any toilets in the NE let alone these luxuarys.

    Get real.

    Long night?

If you can afford a motorbike for 20k baht (used), you can also afford a helmet for 200 baht. Which, despite being a little piece of plastic and foam, will be way better than nothing.

You're right, they can buy motorcycles, pimp the vehicle, change the exhaust pipe in a way to disturb the ordinary working citizens but poor guys cannot afford an helmet. The laws about loud exhausts and the use of helmets has been enforced for a while now but, it seems that the police can't do anything about it. It's just a question of parental misguidance, disrespect for your neighbors and an huge lack of the system that has been established for a long time.

NOTHING ELSE THAN THE TRUTH what you mention above ! About the system : very simpel : USELESS since nobody give a damned at those (mostly ridiculous) laws in Thailand. About the noise... yeah we really get nuts about it, not only the motorbikes, but EVERYTHING that makes some noise in Thailand. Look at all those cars with a sound system on board that even the Rolling Stones would make disappear with their music power. But in TH it's the most normal and common thing that this happens every single day. Who cares ? Nobody, except that stupid farang... but those basterds will not leave their sleep for that..

And where it all begins ? Indeed, while they still are babies, they already are forced to watch every day to all those stupid soaps and violent movies with the volume switch on MAXIMUM ! So how can they ever become educated like most Westerners are ? Poor Thailand, more and more people will die in the future in road accidents, especially with a bike because NOBODY CARES !!!!!

  9. What a joke, compulsory helmet zones!!!!! When a helmet is actually worn, it's one made of plastic. If the government is really serious about the issue, make it compulsory to wear helmets all the time by everyone on the bike. Setup a minimum standard for helmet quality, and educate Thai's that a motorbike was designed for a capacity of 2 max. Not an entire family of 5.

"If the government really is serious"... => Maybe we have to wait another 2000 years for that? Nobody in Thailand who make the rules and laws has more than 10% brains in their head. Sadly enough it is and it stays a pitty that every day kids and adults on bikes get killed as they are racing in front of the police with 3 or 4 on ONE motorbike WITHOUT helmets. But nobody actually cares when they get killed since for some people this makes their daily income and for others they can increase receiving the corruption $$$.

It will NEVER change in this beautiful country that's been led and ruled by imbecils!

  10. I hope they get them all and send them back where they come from. I really don't think that will hurt Pattaya's main business that much. It is already taking a beating.

They are going to be hanging pictures of wanted Criminals all around there office I wonder if they will have Mr. Thaksin up there?:jap:

They are talking about..... FOREIGNERS !

  11. Must be more important things to report

Totally agree !! Again an example which <deleted> are running around in political Bangkok! :whistling: They are UNABLE to teach something useful to the students, but complaining about a nice schooluniform ( which is NOT too short !! ) is a major point to these small brains.... Poor government/ministry !

  12. Regardless of what TOT says, or maybe in spite of it, Insurance companies will not issue travel insurance to anyone traveling to a country that is under a State of Emergency. And while some governments may have eased their travel warnings, that hasn't necessarily alleviated the situation, and until those warnings are petty much downgraded to "normal", most tour operators won't even bother trying to book tours to Thailand, and will, instead, encourage their travelers to try other destinations. Such as Vietnam, Bali, Malaysia, Indonesia.

The one thing I find truly "Amazing" about Thailand is their ability to act as if absolutely nothing is wrong, everything is perfect, and everyone loves them. I live in Chiang Mai, and while I realize this is "low season", this is the lowest I've seen it in the last 3 years. I'd like to know where the 7.5 million tourists so far this year went, as most of the major hotels here are running at around 20% occupancy, which is very low, even for this time of year. When I go into town near the mall, I see twice as many tuk tuks sitting idle than I do on the street with customers, and most of those customers are Thai.

    Yeah, it's "Amazing" all right.

Dear friend, you are completely right !!! All those so called TOT officials and other dum "colleagues" don't even know what it means "Amazing Thailand" ! They are, together with so many other officials, mostly dressed in a nice suit or what is more important to them in a nice UNIFORM ( with stars and bells and stripes all over the place ) the "amazing jokers" that we farangs are aware off that they make themselves ridiculous, only the poor important people i'm talking about, don't know it themselves, and they will NEVER know... hahaha.... talking about a country with dum people ! It's really a pitty for such a nice country, but since the uneducated people will always be kept dum ( and dummer ), and over 80% of Thai teachers even do NOT get the minimum in their "official" tests, what can we expect of a bunch of idiots that are meeting every day in places like TAT rooms and so many other "official" places !? Poor Thailand.....

  13. For the OP's consideration just in case money and time is a factor in trying to decide between ED and Non-O Multi visas.

I've been staying here for the past 3 years on Non-O with multi entries - doing visa runs every 90 days.

Below is a breakdown of my cost to stay here in Thailand for up to 15 months each time I renew my Non-O Visa:

My last Visa Trip from Bangkok to Perth.

Bangkok to KL round trip with Air Asia.......... 5,600 baht

KL to Perth round trip with Air Asia............... 6,500 baht

2 nights at Travellodge Perth...................... 3,900 baht (Actually I stayed at Crowne Plaza which is more expensive)

    4 times visa runs @ 2000 baht.................... 8,000 baht

    ===========

    Total 24,000 baht

Of course the above total cost of 24,000 baht may vary depending on airlines and hotel, etc.

The visa frees me up as I don't have to attend school, although if I want to I can. At this time in my life I don't want the responsibility of having to be any place 3 days a week every week. Therefore this Non-O visa suits my lifestyle much better.

Ooops... don't forget the Cost of the Visa itself charged by the Thai Consulate: $175 USD (?)

only 900 baht more to fly from kl to perth as it was from kl to bangkok why is this??? as i thought the airport tax was around the same and also its alot more to fly bkk to krabi with airasia than internal in malaysia????

The round trip flight from KL to Perth ONLY 6,500 baht ???? This must be a big mistake ! if you would say 6,500 Malaysian Ringit i can agree ! i just checked on the AirAsia website.....

  14. Your best option would be to apply for a 12 month multiple entry Non-O visa from an honorary consulate on the basis of visiting friends. On each entry into the Kingdom you will receive a 90 day permission to stay. Do a border run just before your visa expires to receive new 90 day stamp stretching your visa to 15 months.

Believe you are in the UK, in which case would suggest you apply by post through the Honorary Consulate in Hull. There is minimal paperwork required (application form, passport, passport sized photo, fee).

    http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/downloads-and-visas.aspx

i'm not a UK citizen, but i'm wondering if citizens from other countries can also apply for that in Hull as i read and heard so many positive things about the consulate in that place ? Cheers

  15. I'll second that one. What is PB air, where is located etc?

=> HEY GUYS, NEVER HEARD ABOUT GOOGLE OR YAHOO SEARCH ????????? :)

  16. Hello I am a new member living in the central area. I was looking to have a few days on the Rayong seaboard and wondered if anyone can recommend a in expensive hotel/appartment to stay in near or on the beach, say about 500/600 baht a night? I wouls also like to have a few facilites nearby, eating places etc. It is not important to have a pool, I am happy to swim in the sea if it clean. Thanks for any advice forthcoming

You turn right on Sukh at traffic lights to go to Ban Phe where the boat to Koh Samed leaves ; on the "beach road" you turn left, and then you can go and go and go, and if you don't find anything nice and cheap, you better go back ! After you turned left and drive for about 12 kms, you will come in Laem Mae Pim : BEATIFUL and nice place with many seefood restaurants, and also cheap hotels/guesthouses.....

Of course you can also drive further all the way to Chantaburi, and believe me or not, it IS beautiful and quite there !!!!

    Cheers

  17. Hi.

I am German and had to suffer from the racism and neo-nazism in that country. It is one of the reasons i left Germany and vowed never to return again. However here in Thailand i am not the least bit offended by the Nazi-cult that shows at places - how often did i see motorbike riders wearing the "Wehrmacht" type helmet, complete with the swastika sticker (and the correct, Nazi, one - not the Hindu one!) or people wearing t-shirts with that same swastika and even the words "Sieg Heil" below it - they obviously have no clue at all what it means.

I once had a taxi driver ask me where i am from - they all do that, and usually after my "Germany" they come back with either "oh, Bundesliga!" or "oh, BMW!"..... but this guy came back with "oh, Germany... Adolf Hitler still your president? He good man!" I was kind of baffled.

And yesterday evening, when this story was on TV, my boyfriend (Thai) asked me seriously "why Jews complain about Hitler, did he do something bad..?" THEY REALLY DON'T KNOW IT!

But then - in Germany we didn't cover "Rama V" in History, either....... yet he (Rama V) didn't start a world war and killed millions in his home country at the same time, too.

Don't blame the Thais - blame their education system.

    Kind regards.....

    Thanh

Unfortunately you're right that the Nazi-cult also shows up in Thailand ! In my area there is a German pub where those guys are playing and singing nazi songs at night, of course when they are drunk..... :)

  18. Nothing upset´s me anymore when it comes to Thai´s .. you just have to love them! 555 :D

Little did i know about Thailand and Thai culture 10 years ago so how could they know about this .. told GF about Hitler , WWII etc. couple of years ago and she had never heard about it so dont blame Thai People , blame the regime! :D

How could she not know about it? WWII is part of thai history. Thais sided with the Japanese, Japan sided with Germany (Hitler) Has she never heard of the infamous Thai/Burma Railway and the bridge over the River Kwai? We learnt in schools of the treatment afforded to allied prisoners of war at the hands of Thai and Japanese soldiers during the building of the Thai / Burma Railway from Bangkok through to burma

Marsteele, you live in TH and you ask such a stupid question ? Don't you know that not even 50% of the Thai people don't even know about their OWN history !? And 90-95% never heard about Hitler and don't know about WW II.... How i know ? Because i lived for almost 1 year in Kanchanaburi... even there most of the Thai people don't understand albout all those historical sites ! They see all those many farangs who come there EVERY day just like other tourists who go to Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai, etc.... They have not any clue that most of these tourists go there to visit those historical places

And who is to blame for that ? No, not the Thai people but their government, try to keep the people dumb in so many ways !!!

And EUH...... one more thing.... "Thais sided with Japanese" ????????????? :D:)

  19. >>Tourist Police chief Adis Ngamjitsuksri has conceded the extortion of tourists was a problem which the police alone could not stamp out.

Of course not, why would the police want to cut off this big income source?

If they really wanted to stamp out this scam why not give all tourists a leaflet on arrival at Phuket Samui etc airports informing them of a scam with jet skis? Any tourist with half a brain would not touch a jet ski with a barge pole. In a couple of months, no business, problem disappears! Why are the easiest solutions the hardest to understand???

ANSWER : Very good idea but, like already said, police (and others ) will never allow to cut off one of their extra incomes.... :)

  20. Notice to all foreigners planning a Thailand Holiday.

    Why take chances. Protect yourself...

come to Chiang Mai...... not a jet ski in sight...

    :D

No don't come to chiangmai we don't want all you tourists up here spoiling our beatiful part of Thailand. Don't have the problems that they have in all the major tourist areas can live peacefully here. If all the tourists pour in then it will ruin the place and become another shit hole like Pattaya full of bars and prostitutes and scammers.

Hahahaha... good joke ! Are you gonna say that there are no bars and hookers in Chiang Mai ? :D

Why it has the highest level of HIV'ers in Thailand ? :D

PS : i have to admit i like the place ( but this has nothing to do with your argument my friend...) :)

  21. Even though I'm a woman, I support the legalization of prostitution everywhere, since no matter what, it will always be there. The only difference would be that, with it legalized, the women who are involved in the industry would be safer, since they can be more out in the open, resulting in their gaining more knowledge of safer sex practices and a decrease in their murders, etc.

The gals in Thailand already are enough out in the open, aren't they ? :) They do NOT need that legalization for that ! :D

Gaining more knowledge ? Seems very hard to me as most of them have no brains

A decrease of their murders ? i'm not so sure about that.....

  22. I'm a Brit living in Thailand and I have to say I agree with the comments above. Too many Brits come here and use the country like a playground wherer anything goes.

I have been coming to Thailand for many years and have recently noticed some Thais becoming a little tired of farangs in their country. I don't blame them, I'm tired of some farangs being here and I'm a farang!!

Its not excusivly British who use the country as a playground - i've seen plenty of American and Europeans doing the same

And what about Aussies ? even WORSE !!
