Man seeks justice after wife dies from hospital’s inadequate care
Watawattana replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Common in other countries too. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've heard or seen the line “We are committed to fully investigating this matter to ensure it does not happen again” in the UK or other places I've been to. It's not just Thailand. -

Obviously happy to see that you are still with us due to the great medical care. Good to see happier stories on this Forum. -
Pattaya Nightlife Business Owners Urged to Verify Employee Documents
Watawattana replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
There might be a few of the ladies working in Pattaya who object to this statement. And a few men, who after adequate testing, may have found this remark inaccurate! -
Sad and unsurprising. I might have ideas on relevant sex education for boys on what is totally and utterly unacceptable, which might cause a few boys to pause before doing something they must not. But I have absolutely no idea on how to change the culture of an entire country. As with companies the culture comes from the top. If a CEO is a bully, then bullying is okay further down the org. If lawlessness, e.g. corruption, is prevalent in a country's elite, then lawlessness is allowed in the masses who wield a bit of power. So I guess the potential fix starts at the top?

Thailand bids for 2030 Youth Olympics to boost sports industry
Watawattana replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Thailand hosted the Asian indoor hockey cup a few months ago. It went really well. The Thais can arrange decent sized events successfully, although obviously some things go wrong like the Asean Martial Art indoor Games mentioned above. It ain't all bad news though. They got the SE Asia Games next year too, in and around Chonburi. The more events that come to Thailand I'd hope the better they get. -
Hope its remit could include investigating what sort of sex education could reduce the risk of other boys doing such a heinous act in the future. Learning from international experts/experience. I cannot see anything in the report that would lead me to think the girls did anything wrong or risky whatsoever.

Yingluck’s 6 trillion baht water project revived to address floods

And then help to monitor progress against that plan, including auditing the finances against that costing? -
Yeah, many other more important things to moan about than following a police instruction that will prove innocence. Unless of course the p!sser isn't innocent. Even if I thought I was being targeted as I'm a Farang, I truly wouldn't care. Smile, "no problem" and hand back the very full cup. So much easier than getting arrested for obstruction.

Thailand's Tourism Surge Threatened by Zero-Dollar Chinese Tours
Watawattana replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Well said. But funny you should say it, I'm a Brit and went to a well know Spanish island a few years ago, to probably the 2nd most popular town. I tried, and I tried and I tried to find a Spanish restaurant serving local food. Failed. All I found was German, British, Swedish, and Indian. A few others. Some had Spanish dishes on the menu. But I could not find a Spanish restaurant run by a Spaniard. Sad. Obviously couldn't cover 100% of the town in a long weekend. No such issue in Greece, where most seemed to be Greek-run. Yeah some swerving Brit/German/Russian food, but most serving top quality Greek food. -

Thanks - made me look for the UK one. Here it is - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/thailand-tax-treaties Looks like income tax is covered, and has been since 1981. Resident in Thailand, not in UK. Don't pay UK income tax but pay Thai income tax. Except Thailand has not been charging income tax till now. I've only done a very quick read and I probably have misunderstood, but might be good if someone else reads it who has better knowledge than me. I am UK person, not resident in UK (currently Hong Kong, but proactively looking at my options), no income in UK. Income in Hong Kong taxed by Hong Kong IRD (much less tax than in UK).

The Aussie Liberal Party didn't get around to registering more than 100 Liberal Party candidates in NSW, meaning around 50 serving politicians automatically lose their livelihood. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cly84x8rejjo https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-08-15/nsw-liberal-party-shields-resign-council-election-nominations/104227072 Can anyone think of a bigger screw up in the history of politics? I don't think electing Obama, Trump or Boris Johnson should be included.

Anyone fancy meeting up for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon beer, dinner and nighttime beer every day for the next few days? I reckon around Victory Monument in Bangers should be the best place... Ought to be quiet and peaceful... Just like 2006 and 2014... -
