I went to a friend of a friend’s wedding on Friday night in Pattaya. Nearly everyone attending was a farang with a thai wife or girlfriend. A few kids. Everyone was reasonably well behaved until the booze started flowing when things started getting messy and the women’s true colors started showing up. It was fairly obvious that nearly every one of them was a former bar girl, most were tattooed, they got sleazier and louder as the night wore on both verbally and physically. It was a fun night. I was thinking about half of them were not showing much or any respect to their husbands. It appeared the more drunk some of them got the less they liked their husbands and were not even pretending to like them. Almost like they were trying to start trouble with their husbands/boyfriends which put me on edge a bit. Very touchy feely. They seem to have chosen a life where they have to spend most of their time with men they don’t really like. An underlying tension that comes out when they are drunk? Why is it that so many prostitutes in Thailand marry their customers? There are prostitutes in probably every country in the world, but I have never seen this before, it seems a uniquely Thai phenomenon. There must be thousands of them. Why is it so different in Thailand? ps. The dowry was 200,000 and some gold. The wife was a stunner. An oldie, but a goodie. Nice big set of bolt-ons.
