  1. Harris has just blamed the jarring downtrend in jobs and teetering recession on the orange man. Of course, she wants you to forget about the dozen or so times that the Biden administration had gloated and flag waved when jobs were above 200k pm (which is mediocre as well).
  2. I really detest this attitude. The woman take the money and hopefully at least with minimally proficient at the task. My wife works for 25k pm. Her attractive nieces in Bangkok make half that. That's honest work. That's a choice. It's very easy money ...but with a catch. You sell your soul and often your dignity but it was their choice. If you want to get yourself on the game that's up to you. Well I might have empathy, I have little sympathy. These women not always but often are involved in all sorts of petty crime and bull<deleted>+. Never miss an opportunity to get one over on that one night punter. I will say they're probably far less mercenary than European hookers but it's all coming to a head.
  3. I'm fairly certain. It is also a belief of mine that Thailand gives those first stepping into the country about a year to play around. If you've done the right thing in procured visas you probably have a bit longer. We are both discussing what was so there is that to remember. In the end it is my belief that no matter what is legal technically is flavor of the day - this may not translate into forever stay in Thailand. Rather, it's a bit of food scrap for the carp. I developed a personal strategy over 15 years that had me caught out only once (in Penang) - and that was only due to the fact that I couldn't get online and access to my Thai bank account. Some swear by flying in, others by land. Some this, others that. Some get visas and others beg extensions. Whatever you perceive works for you. Getting back to the point..IOs are essentially charged with keeping out grifters. Extended stays on exempt imo will end up being as problematic in the future as it has been in the past. With so many more visas to the IO will say you have more options now than ever before. True. The only problem is that many of these Pattaya and CM grifters will not qualify for any of the new visas as they never qualified for any of the old visas. It's just my opinion and I could be totally wrong. My opinion - it's wholy wrong especially given how popular Thailand is as a vacation and holiday country that it doesn't spell out clearly the amount of time that individuals can spend in the country and under what terms. It is clearly to their advantage not to do so. The people that get caught out are those at the bottom end of things. Thailand is not the least bit concerned with them and therefore probably feels no need for clarity. Let them waste their money and their time it only benefits Thailand in the long run. Visas aside that 60 days exempt stamp can go back to 30 overnight and will perhaps as soon November... or as the economy is in such a funk they might let it ride until Thailand pulls out of its recession. No idea.
  4. No I have not. Having said that even on my first extension of the O visa we didn't receive a visit either. I think the op misread the situation
  5. As someone who's bouncer on East Asia for 35 years. Lived in Thailand on TR visas extension stamps for probably half that time no less than three months a year. I don't believe is unlimited for all those individuals doing border hops. It's my expatriate sense at these people are still going to get questioned and get hassled.
  6. Minivan to Hat Yai and then another to Butterworth. Enjoy the food and buildings. Return. Trick with minivans is to take the Thai ones NOT the tourist ones. The tourist minivans are often stuffed with people and on their last legs. No self-respecting tire whatever be expected to get into one of those jalopies If you've no fear of entering via airport you can fly back from Penang to Phuket. By far enough ahead of time and these tickets are fairly cheap
  7. CW As a general rule visits are not done for Bangkok. I've never been visited in 15 years O Marriage In fact, seems smoother now. I think when you get to a point on a marriage visa that you've done this a dozen or more times they are only looking for the paperwork and not looking to catch you out on some ridiculous little detail. IO has never stated anything like pick a number and call to see if it's ready. Even seems like they're just doing last minute umteenth check even on the day I pick it up. I've never had it not ready. None of the officials have ever even remotely ask me for the back hander.
  8. Well, looking at the bright side for this guy he can go back to wearing casual clothes on Mondays 😂
  9. Yes, most of all no motivation, discipline. No office skills, lazy, indifferent. 85-90% of foreign teachers are as big a waste of money as the Thai.
  10. The question is what was the motivation? What did he or whomever was associated or backing him have to gain by the apparent attempted indoctrination? No doubt simply old guard rantings. I did not delve into the article but the post itself did not explain anything. What was being said?????! Just looks like deep state mischief.. "Lone actor" attempting to instill fear and repercussions of pushing for change in young people no doubt.
  11. I agree. Anything in Thai pharmacy wouldn't do this - even 30mg of benzos which is usually used in combination with alcohol to knock people out. It would need to be rohypnahl (sp) , but I think even that stuff you would still need alcohol to knock you out absolutely and completely I do feel sorry for the guy especially if you was in for some minor offense.
  12. Student lecturing 🙄 I'd taught at some very good public and private schools. The disdain the really intelligent students had for their teachers and those in a position to lecture them such as directors (worse) was a real thing. By end of high school most of them viewed these individuals as blithering idiots. With the exception of math teachers most were a good two and three pegs below the intelligence of the better students (age 17-18) It was as though they tolerated the teachers because they needed the grade. This was also true for most of the largely incompetent foreign teachers as well.
  13. I was going to start a new thread, but here you go. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/life/2024/06/08/one-in-every-ten-thai-children-suffers-from-malnutrition-due-to-poverty/ Most malnutrition and starvation is political. The notion that Thai children should be suffering in such a state is incredible given the bounty of agriculture of the nation. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/opinion/2024/06/09/opinion-thai-society-a-perpetual-hostage-to-the-deep-state/ https://www.thailand-business-news.com/business/132048-uncovering-the-oligopoly-and-monopoly-market-structure-in-thailands-economy https://www.b######post.com/business/general/2837683/world-lagging-thai-stocks-see-investors-moving-money-into-regional-rivals https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/thailand-sets-chaos-domestic-auto-market-subsidizing-chinese-evs My two favorites https://www.techinasia.com/unpacking-tech-giants-massive-investments-malaysia https://www.thailand-business-news.com/asean/vietnam/131304-vietnams-economy-projected-to-outpace-thailands-by-2038 Without real change the future is bleak. What happens when Thais push back against 40M tourists invading their country and worse yet the vast majority receiving absolutely no in/direct benefit from it. Illegal Chinese land grabs, call center and zero-dollar tourism. Any factories moved from PRC here can be and probably will be moved on to Cambodia or Vietnam Oligarchs are just mimicking the West. Fairly obvious to me. Given that I receive nothing from the country despite having paid taxes (was a 1% er) income in the nation and the VAT spending both myself and my wife. That the Thai government appears to want yet even more despite delivering absolutely nothing to myself, family I'm quite indifferent to its plight any longer. The writing is clearly on the wall and is being ignored. This 14B digital giveaway is an absolute farce and will damage the currency and the nation. Of course, this CBDC is not entirely Thailand's doing I'm sure it was pushed by outside global mischief makers
  14. Still surprised. Seems where the op wishes to be as well. Anyone else reading.. this is absolute farang ghetto so odds higher.
  15. Congratulations. Bangkok condos and especially apartments do not have ovens as anything remotely standard. You have a Euro kitchen. These are going to be Thai kitchens.
  16. It may have. I've even used my EXPIRED driver's license for making withdrawals of a reasonably large amount of money on a few occasions having forgot my passport. Yeah, as you've correctly pointed out a passport is necessary. They input the number and your name into the system. All cards are linked to identification which is extremely troubling for me I might add.
  17. The pink card cannot be obtained without a house book from a family member or owning a condo yourself. The vast majority of us will never fit into those scenarios. Having a pink card or using your passport makes absolutely no difference. Once you get your card you don't need to show your passport ever again. That goes for the BTS as well I wish board members would stop going on about pink cards it's very annoying.
  18. I see more and more farang up here on MRT. Please do not come up here to live. It's simply dreadful. Outside of the odd KFC in McDonald's there's no foreign food. Thais speak little English. Many 711 do not have little home wheat bread even. You will hate it. Run away..back to Sukhumvit with the burkas and tiktokers best for you 👍👍👍
  19. Interesting You'll get none of this from any Thai government source or online publication (maybe Thai Examiner, Khaosod) Thailand's ability to manufacture anything is decidedly low tech. Vietnam will soon surpass Thailand and a number of manufacturing agricultural areas. The heart of the problem is corruption and disrespect for the individual. The multitude of onerous laws don't help either. I have often said for a decade and a half that Thailand is becoming more like the Philippines then Singapore this march continues ever forward I'm not aware of anything that it makes or has the ability to manufacturer that has anything to do with technology. The only thing that allows it to cling on to any any manufacturing at all is China moving its factories here to avoid US and to a lesser extent EU quotas. The Japanese seem to be abandoned in the country entirely
  20. I never said otherwise simply that it was not convenient to the BTS. As I pointed out there is not one but two Aspire.
  21. It's all finished for Bangkok. Cowboy was hobbling along pre COVID. Post, it's a permanent cripple. Now, low season it's probably more full of tourists especially before 10:00 then it is punters. I had a happy hour beer in dollhouse a bit over a month ago. I was completely ignored which is fine. The chubby girls inside were all over the new Asian men that there were. Upstairs was closed. I was down in cowboy last week (mid) and it was absolutely dead. Most of the girls were standing out in the street trying to drag customers in all night. Until midnight there was probably the majority of the dancers outside I enjoy drinking 1x a week outside Nana. The women in these bars are old enough to be grandmothers. I imagine many are. Nana doesn't get itself cranked up to probably 10:00 now and I'm guessing it's short lived running until probably 1:00. The women working in these bars attempting to get taken out are all freelancers. They are entirely dependent upon drinks and bar fines. I wouldn't pay salary for them either. They have become quite mercenary and many are downright rude when you tell them that you're not going to buy them a b180 drink for them to ask you a lot of stupid questions about being a tourist here. They usually shut you down immediately by that I mean not talk to you. This is fine but it strikes me as such a *service* and so socially rude that I take offense to it. It's sort of funny. Even funnier is that when you tell them you're married and don't need a piece of ass from them and they still pursue you. What I often tell them is that I get enough yakking from my wife lol. There was one woman who offended me so much that I finished my beer and left. I imagine she thought I she was laying down some guilt trip. I just laughed I guess they're all doing okay because they're asking serious money for services. Another bit of hilarity is barfing a freelancer that is required to be in the bar but is paid nothing. I have no idea what Nana plaza looks like these days. About a year ago I did a really fast walk through and it was a bit of a joke. I recall I spoke a few words of Thai to one of the beauties outside an agogo she literally turned on her heels and walked away. The beer at the time was priced something like 180 baht. I can't see any locals you're drinking at that price. It's just a vibe perhaps but Go-Go's and Nana just seems so sketchy. Like they're going to try and clip me and I have to constantly have my antenna up rather than enjoy myself with every approaching woman and their purchased I would direct anyone interested in this sort of saying just to go to Pattaya. Day drinking can be fun in that bar next to Stumble. *** Can anyone tell me if there are happy hours running inside Nana?
  22. Just say you're a sweaty mess and you've never adjusted to the climate. I don't go through three shirts in an entire week.
  23. Unless it's on Abnb there's absolutely no way of knowing that a random apartment in a particular building will be available when you need it. Given that you're looking occupy it in high season is another complication. I seriously doubt that anyone that does not have a booking system will hold the condo for your little stay. There's just no way to do that as no one is going to kick someone out so you can occupy the condo temporarily. You have the additional difficulty of only desiring to rent for for 4 not 6 months. I'd say you could definitely kiss your deposit goodbye at the very least assuming someone will rent to you at all. Looking at the map there appear to be two condos on Rama 4. What an odd area and well away from the BTS (MRT) line/s If you're in love with the area and I've no idea why why don't you have this landlady of yours get the line ID of the admin in the building? They would possibly know what is available. Sitting on that huge highway and all its pollution no idea why you would want to be out there but that's your issue
  24. Most apartments have zero cooking facilities including anything that remotely could be considered a kitchen and range from 24 to 40 square meters. Most are around 25 to 30 square meters. Obviously, you will have better luck searching out a condo but again extremely rare because I simply don't use ovens. If an air fryer doesn't work for you then move home. It's so tired seeing people move care and put the square peg in the round hole A built-in oven is an absolute rarity and not even worth attempting to chase down. The only solution in reality is to purchase a small oven as the poster above has shown above Finally, I would also imagine that an old oven is massively inefficient with its use of electricity
  25. I don't know if the stored value on the card expires, but I think just the convenience alone is worth it assuming you may travel peak hours. If not it's no big deal. Most MRT stations are like ghost towns midday
