  1. I sincerely hope she will not be obliged to learn some English words:” Hello, welcome! What would you like some drink?”
  2. I'm with Siam Commercial and Krungthai, both stopped their website online banking a while ago, You have to use the application on your smartphone. SCB has got a clean application, not overloaded with marketing gimmicks. They sent a message saying that from June 9th they cancel the waiver of verification by face recognition. I still can use it, though. Wait and see…
  3. There's a fair in Bangkok, next month, Asia Sustainable Energy Week, 2-4 July. Queen Sirikit Centre. https://www.asew-expo.com/2025/en/index.asp
  4. For historical reasons, there are three off grid solar systems at my place. One 1 kW PV array, 4×250W with one 1kW inverter. 24V battery bank. (+/- 30 000 THB) Coming next one 3.25kW array, 10 × 325W panels, one 3.5kW inverter, 96 V battery bank. I bought eight 150 AH gel batteries last year, 64 000THB. The last one is 4 × 625W array, hybrid controller inverter 3.0kw 24V battery bank. I must have paid some 7 550 THB for the inverter, I've just bought four 100 AH Li FePO4 batteries, 24 000 THB, add another 30 000 THB for the panels and some accessories, total around 62 000 THB. Li FePO4 batteries have become less expensive and last much longer than flooded batteries, We have two fridges but no aircon, daily consumption 4.5-5kWH. The first 1.0 kW system is not used for the house any more, but for a small house 100m away used now and then by my wife's children, The two other systems are used separately and there's a transfer switch. I like that two systems approach because, like any technical system, they can fail. I was about to forget another 6×400W array for my deep well pump. The deep well was a budget of +/-70 000 THB all included. The panels were placed by local workers, I did all the wiring by myself. The budget was the cost of materials plus manpower at local price, I did all the electricity.. Unfortunately, the file with the detailed account was on a drive that crashed. pn27s3BDxd0 This is the YouTube address for the deep well, the link isn't active because YouTube does not allow it, just paste in the search function. I made other videos, but they are in French.
  5. Firstly, it's not a marriage visa, but a Thai spouse visa. In my passport, they wrote ภรรยาไทย ปีที่ 6 or Thai spouse, sixth year. Secondly, it often depends on the local immigration office, and of course on your home country. I come from Belgium, and the immigration office accepts an Affidavit from my embassy, the document is written in English. It all also depends on your revenue source. If you have a regular pension like me, you also could ask your bank to give you a certificate. In that case, it's recommended to have your bank agency close to the immigration office. Or, as someone suggested earlier on this thread, you can have a 400 k THB deposit on your bank account. I've never been asked to provide translated documents, except for my marriage.
  6. You're 100% right, what I see beyond this is a kind of NGO subsidized by the alcohol lobby.
  7. And by the way, in rural locations, you can buy beer and alcohol at any time…
  8. You have to expect the beer and alcohol lobby to use the weapon of fear to protect its interests.
  9. I do not care about the discounts I could get using their mobile application, this applies to Shopee likewise. On my desktop webpage, I have lots of messages I can't read, and I simply delete them now and then.
  10. I meant home country, by the way Castle Malting (Malterie du Château) is in Beloeil where my grandfather was born.
  11. And here in Thailand you can even buy malt from Vietnam… I prefer Castle Malting from my homcountry and also available here.
  12. Cheater is the anagram of teacher... Just kidding...
  13. I built a pizza oven following the Forno Bravo design and have decent pizzas to share with my family, and have baked bread for the third time now. I met with another expat here in Loei who made the same oven. cuisson de la pizza.MP4 version fumoir.MP4
  14. The guy who published this survey is too lazy, or shows a poor knowledge of the country! Isaan... the largest region in Thailand, is not detailed. (e.g. Nakorn Ratchasima, Ubon Ratchathani, Kon Khaen, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Buriram, other Isaan) About one third of the voters in this survey live in Isaan. Well, 30% of the Thai population live in these 20 (out of 77) provinces. I live in Loei, a remote place where people do not speak Isaan, but the Loei language (Laotian)… Until 2017, I lived and worked in Chonburi, my house was in Sri Racha and my university was not far from Jomtien (Pattaya)…
  15. Because some 25 years ago I went to the Vietnam Embassy in Belgium and I felt an unbearable weight of communism. Now I've been living in Thailand for more than twenty years, worked for a University and live in my wife's village since I retired. I have my family here, and I do not regret my choice.
  16. Immigration police officers do have different duties, that's why you're going to see different people. Besides this, there's a rotation and the staff can be moved to another province and replaced by new faces. It sounds normal to me, living in Thailand since 2003…
  17. Well, sorry to be so straightforward, but you definitely seem knowing nothing about Thai people, of course they would kill that snake!
  18. In a shop, when the Thais seem not to care about you, it's often simply because they cannot speak 'farang' (English). You are a guest in this country, make an effort to know their culture and values. Saitong nueng? What does that mean, may be 'sai toong dai mai krab'? ใส่ถุงได้ไหมครับ I've been living here, for more than twenty years now and earlier even when I came as a tourist, I started to learn some Thai. I arrived in 2003 and worked for a university until I retired in 2017. Now, the Thais regularly congratulate me for my pronunciation. Sometimes I also notice that Thais are reluctant to communicate with me, but once they hear I can speak Thai, they smile and are very friendly. What you describe is not that they look down at you or reject you, they just don’t know how to communicate, and may be there’s something in your dressing or behaviour that chocks them, who knows?
  19. Either you have a multiple-entry visa, and you're on the safe side, otherwise, hopefully you applied for a re-entry permit before you left the country, otherwise your retirement visa will have been cancelled.
  20. Good to mention, this article is not serious. Indeed, there is a new law in preparation in favour of small local production, but it is not the one mentioned in this article. However, I look forward to knowing the rules for the application of this new law. Furthermore, I suspect that the government's main concern is to raise taxes on a broader basis, like, for example, expat income tax. In fact, there are already many websites selling ingredients and brewing equipment. In addition, this volume of 30,000 litres per day is not correct. So far, there are two types of licences, and for microbreweries, such as the German Tawan Daeng, the minimum is 100,000 litres per year. Let's see what the new law has in store for us.
  21. Well I would not be so arrogant when I see all the accidents occurring in the States due to lack of maintenance, bridges, railway, Boeing 737 MAX, etc…
  22. I've done it several times, just cut the pipe at about one inch from the fitting then use a plier to tear the pipe around the plier until it is removed, heating can help, but it is tricky.
  23. Larb Nua, far better, with Som Tam Thai, replace fried beef by Nua Ded Diow or Sua Rong Hay, add some sticky rice...
  24. I've been living in Thailand since 2003, initially I worked for a university in the Chonburi province and since 2017 I'm staying in Loei in the middle of nowhere and have never had any security/safety related issues. I commuted from home to the university either driving my truck or riding my Kawasaki Ninja 650, you have to be careful and adopt a defensive way of driving. Obviously, dragging in the hot corners that exist in all tourist places beyond a certain hour can be more risky, but the danger will come rather from expats under influence than from Thais, who will be more likely to protect you than attack you.
