I'm planning a trip to Thailand with some friends, and we are actually considering cancelling and extending our stay in Europe instead since we've heard all these reports of planted drugs, urine tests, dodgy police, scam tour's etc etc
Any help would be much appreciated.
1. So are they urine testing for marijuana in Thailand or not? (Specifically marijuana, me and my friends never touch hard-drugs)
2. How long should you refrain from smoking for weed not to appear on a urine test?
3. As a tourist who tested positive, would you be deported, or locked up? (Specifically for weed, not meth or anything else)
4. If 3.'s answer is 'locked up', for how long and approximately how many ppl has this happened to? (again, marijuana specifically)
5. What are the chances of having drugs planted on you? What amount of money are you expected to pay as the bribe?
We also saw on the news a Melbourne couple in August of 2013 who noticed a lock was missing on one of their bags, so not feeling safe checking at the airport they went back to a hotel, searched and found drugs planted. They rung the embassy who said to watch out for ppl who may have followed them, and dispose of it ASAP, + don't say a word till they are back in Australia. This is quite frightening advice from the Aussie embassy...
These were well experienced travellers in Thailand too, had been many times, has anyone heard of other situations like this?
Thanks in advance
Suggest going to a weed friendlier place like cambodia or laos
Not worth the risk in thailabd

Based on false pretenses (a lie)?Yes, just go up to the desk that says "Troll".......This is not trolling, don't be so quick to yell troll at every turn.
This is just posting a hypothetical so that we may debate and evaluate a part of our reality.
Narrow minds are such a drag.
Sounds like the precise definition of a troll post to me

Well, if you say so.
But to me it is a chance to teach a lesson about man's inhumanity to man,
And maybe learn something so that we can be just slightly better the next time around.
You could say, this is like reading the Bible, because as we know everything in the Bible is literally true,
Except for the allegory about that Bathsheba Broad.
Narrow minds at work,
Watch out!
Then why not approach the subject as such instead of lying and saying you are someone you are not?
Seems to me the ploy is to garnish sympathy from the reader with a sob story (a made up, pre-fabricated lie) so that the op can "teach people something" based on his biased views. People obviously wouldn't have the same reaction if they knew the op were some western middle class person posing as a minority woman now would they?
Discourse in a forum should be open and honest, the op is just a liar, hence the term "troll."

Where are you from your English is very good? If you have worked for someone and can prove it, the department of labour will take your case, they are not really interested if you have a WP or not.....if you are owed money they will get it for you

Not sure about your country, but there are exceptions in Thailand.
e.g. if the truck had just entered the road from a soi in front of the jeep
if the truck changes lanes into the front of the jeep
etc
Agreed, often very difficult to prove though. The onus is on the driver in the rear to drive defensively enough to avoid those kinds of things. If the jeep was following the law and driving safely, he may have had to slam on his brakes but would have been able to avoid any serious accident.

What if the truck had no rear lights?
Then the truck should be cited for it; it is a dangerous hazard. However, if the jeep had headlights and was travelling at a reasonable speed then he should have had enough space and time not to plow straight into the truck's back.

Beats me why you have this problem.I get nothing but smiles and great service. I bought my car in april 2012 when people where waiting months to get delivery. My Nissan deal got mine to me in 9 days.I buy any big items they deliver them free and quickly.Local businessmen see me in a coffe shop or restaurant they stop in and say hello and then pay my bill. At the market the merchants always add a little extra to my order for free. I cannot say I experience anything like what you describe. I cannot help you because cannot see how that could happen in Thailand.
Biggest load of bs ive heard in awhile
Ive experienced both good and bad but this post is certainly troll based or the poster is the village joke...probably both

To anyone berating the Father,he is the one that you should feel the most sorry for.
Why?He will punish himself far more than anyone else could, every day of his life until the day he dies, for leaving Cartoon in that pick-up!
Anyone wanting him prosecuted really doesn't have a heart and it would be pointless anyway as he is in his own private, living Hell now and right up to his own death!
Prove to me that he will punish himself every day and that he will be living in his own personal hell.
Again, prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is the case and that he actually feels this way.
Bit difficult, eh? Thats why there is rule of law, and neglect is most certainly a punishable offense.
Either your post is a joke,or you have serious mental health issues,I can only hope that it's the former and in very, very bad taste!
Not a joke. The law doesn't function on good intentions or perceived feelings of guilt. This guys act of wanton neglect directly led to a murder. The only way to deter this sort of thing is to hold him responsible for his actions.
For all we know he could write it off as her fate or karma. Not filing charges of willful neglect in this case is a trajedy, in my opinion.

I also find it exceedingly hard to believe!
As I have been living in Thailand for 13 years, shopped all over Thailand except for the deep south and nothing like the OPs story has ever happened to me.
Let me rephrase that, "has never happened to me where fix prices were posted" In Pattaya I would ask a vendor "how much" many times I received a high price quote, never said a word put the item back and left.
Also in 13 years never had anyone say,"Farang price is more"
I am not implying that it could not happen, but to be as wide spread as some say it is on this forum and I take issue with the OP's statment "every single incident that has happened to almost every Farang here"
Eight (8) different posters stated that has never happened to them, at least five of them are long time residents of Thailand, and aside from the very vocal anti-Thai poster that champions the OP , the majority sentiment is that it has not happened to them.
As it has also never happened to me, I would have to side with the majority opinion!
Cheers
Here we go again; it has happened to you; you are just too oblivious and misguided to notice.
Your last comment says it all; "I would have to side with......"
There are no sides; just a poster telling us about his experience, and I for one find it hard to believe that he would just make it up.
This is the problem, you feel that you have to "take a side." There is more to the world than "Thais" and "falang." You should get out more

Sorry, but I find this incredibly difficult to believe.
That is because it is a load of crap. I've been here a long time and no Thai is going to lose money to make some imaginary point. They may try to charge you more in the first place, but not refund money and make no sale at all to "get" a farang after something is already sold.
Oh great, here comes the "it never happened to me so it can't possibley be true" brigade.
Dummy up Ulysses and beetlejuice; it has happened to you, you are both just to cought up in your own hubris to notice it.

man, gto is for porters and carrying gas cylinders here in Bangkok, are you sure?
As you will be count as one of them on the roads:)
My first bike in Thailand was a GTO, great bike. The exaust is too low to the ground though; I ruined the engine by driving through water, also the drum brakes don't work too well in the rain.
Great bike when it's dry though.
-
Big bike crash doesn't mean what you said. "Big bikes" are the bikes larger than scooters - you know, real motorcycles.
You mean the kind that people with low self-esteem and small appendages need to make them feel like big men?
For me a bike is a way to get around; nothing more nothing less. Where I live anything bigger than a 125-150 would be ridiculous to own.

I was food shopping in one of the big supermarkets yesterday with the gf, dressed as I normally am when out in public with clean shorts and an ironed t-shirt
When I turned into the next aisle to see a western man, no idea of nationality looking like he had just been dug up. What made it worse was he was swigging from a bottle of beer and stunk of B O.
I just don't understand why people would act like that. I would understand if he was a down and out living on the beach, but the guy obviously has a roof over his head as he was buying food that needed cooking. How hard is it to shower and lay off the beer for an hour whilst shopping.
My point is I felt embarrassed that people would think we are from the same place, as to Thais a white guy is just a farang regardless of what country they are from.
There are many respectable men out here but it's these slob's giving us a bad name.
I wonder if they are like this in there home country, or is it that they come here and give up, and they know the gf wont leave them while they are paying?
Looking at the Thai gf she was not happy.
In N Korea they have a dress code, pethaps you would like it better there
This however is the free world and you should myob

If the man didn't care at all he wouldn't have his daughter around him. Had he not cared at all he wouldn't have taken her to the truck to sleep. His actions shows the signs of a person caring but making an extraordinarily poor decision.
Hi DIDN'T have his daughter around him, that's why she got taken, geez.....

What a freaking bore. The way OP writes as if there aren't any materialistic people from the west when it's the west that built capitalism and all the material trappings. Remember charging an arm and a leg for a bag all because it has a logo called "prada" on it or "lois vuitton" all of this came from the west and western ppl buy them and so do ppl from other countries rather than a similar bag from a flea market.
I find it rather silly and presumptous of OP to make such statements like thai ppl worship rich people what about the sports ppl like david beckham or kobe? What about rock stars and singer? These ppl are worshipping by millions of common sheep in the west.
I'll give it though that western ppl have a way of making everything seem more noble even though they behave exactly the same way as ppl in thailand.
Let's take a person donald trump. Rich guy behaves just like every rich guy the world over. Has women and knows how to control his underlings etc. Yet i am willing to bet ppl here think donald trump somehow is a more "noble" or a better person than a rich hi so thai person similar to him all because trump is a western guy.
Sounds really stupid but that's how people like you think.
I agree that his post may seem a little sanctimonious but, I think he does have a point. Just an offhand example is how I see rich people treating gas station attendants; ordering them around and speaking very bluntly and rudely.
Where I'm from, if you talked to an attendant like that you would be refused service; full stop, no exceptions, no matter if you are driving a 1979 Pinto or a Porsche.
Thais are VERY class and status minded. This is a simple fact; but beyond that there are good and bad people just like anywhere else in the world.

The self-righteous moral-indignant crap directed at the father of this tragic child is misplaced, and typically Western. - Someone is always to blame other than the perpetrator of the actual crime itself. Thais are generally careless, but mostly a very child-friendly people and culture. No one can legislate for the odd, lone psycho prowler like this sick bastard, unless they want their society to become the paranoid, unfriendly place that most expats fled from in the first place.
No, the perp is to blame for the crime, the father is to blame for letting it happen
Thats right, he let it happen. Had he not been so uncaring selfish and stupid, this would not have happened to his daughter
And btw, there are plenty of sickos in Thailand, this is NOT a cultural issue, it is a parenting issue

2. 'Farang khee nok' is a perjorative term for a Westerner living on a tight budget.
Hope this helps.
True,
Its one of the more rude swear-words for foreigners.
I think one of the posters has mixed it up with kee niaow (khi niao, ขี้เหนียว).
Literally it means something like "sticking sh*t", but stands for (very) closefisted/penny-pinching.
Not that insulting like kee nok, more to laugh about.
Kee meaning feces is a different word, the word you mean denotes personification of an adjective
"Sticky shit" now that is funny...

Watch Tv and read the news, the father is griefing and not a hearthless basterd.
Leaving your child in a hot car you can expect dehydration and possible death as a result. A six year old child being taken from a car is somewhat less to expect.
If you want to prosecute him, you must prosecute every parent that leaves a child in a car for more than only 30 seconds.
Thats right; any parent who leaves a child alone in a car for ANY amount of time should be prosecuted for neglect and risk having the state take his/her children away. Regardless of whether it is 10 hours or 10 seconds full stop.
However in this case it is neglect LEADING TO death. What that means is that had he not left the child alone, she would not be dead. HIS actions directly led to her death.
If he is truly greiving (and not faking it, which you or I could never know) then he will accept his punishment as just.
By your logic a parent could let their child starve to death, then act sad when they die to avoid prosecution.
Neglect is a crime plain and simple. Criminals should be prosecuted for their crimes.
Your position shocks and stuns me, it could only lead to more neglect. Think about it.
You are twisting my words.
By your logic a parent could let their child starve to death, then act sad when they die to avoid prosecution. That is not the meaning of my words. Starving someone is murdering someone, it is premeditated and you want the result.
The father did not want the result.
I wonder if you are a parent, then you would now that your statement:
"Thats right; any parent who leaves a child alone in a car for ANY amount of time should be prosecuted for neglect and risk having the state take his/her children away. Regardless of whether it is 10 hours or 10 seconds full stop."
would put at least half of the parents on this planet in front of a judge.
While I agree it should not happen, a lot of people do let their children alone in a car for just a few minutes. Sometimes that might be even safer than taking them with you.
Purposely starving someone is quite different than letting someone starve from neglect. Happens all the time with drug addicts who dissapear for days or weeks with small children left home alone. Kids are constantly found living in squalor, malnurished
Hence the difference between charges of 1st degree murder and manslaughter. I'm surprised you don't know this.
Also, 10 seconds can be just enough time for someone to snatch a kid from a car.
In the US, children who are found in cars alone in parking lots (regardless of the amount of time the parent is gone) are taken into custody and the parents are arrested as they should be.
Perhaps you are European, I remember a case in the 90's when a scandanavian woman left her infant in a stroller alone on the sidewald in NYC while she was shopping. She was promptly arrested for neglect, causing a bit of an international incident.
