Economy Thailand’s Wealth Gap Widens: Most Bank Accounts Below 50,000 Baht
Quentin Zen replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I'll chime in because I'll retire next year and can look back and try to understand all my prior mistakes. 1. YOLO. I remember in my 30's thinking if I didn't buy this sports car now I won't buy it in my 50's. well, that was correct. bought about 5 total, all bad financial decisions. same with sports equipment, kitchen appliances, house upgrades, etc...... 2. Boredom/depression/anxiety/dopamine. Never really figured out what it was, I think anxiety and dopamine mix. Anyhow, bought something (could be between $20 and $5000, but had to be something) almost every week just to get that rush of something new coming. 3. Used items. Same rush, much cheaper, but it's still spending money. parents prob. spoiled me on a relative basis and i just never grew up....who knows. i knew the problem, only fix was just buy something cheaper. 4. It's either a house or nothing. When you have, say $10k to $50k a house is still not possible if single without a stable job. So then it just goes to zero. to get a lot of money you really need to invest in the big picture. you do need money. 5. Boredom, again. Let's see if I can go from 100k to 0k and make it work. yes, you can. work, save money, quit, freedom, get worried about money, work more, save more, budget more, think more...it's crazy how humans (most) Just seem to make it work. I had to test this theory a few times. it did work every time. 6. Family money. Most people just rely on inheritance or family money or some "solid" support group and so their savings don't matter. Since there's no timeline or guarantee on how this plays out, you can waste decades always being broke. I've seen many people take this route and very rarely it works out well. 7. Random expenses. Medical (not emergency), traveling, something breaks, get fired, whatever....this wipes someone out for a year or two. Now, if you get married and/or have a kid then I'm sure it's a bottomless pit if you start with 50k baht... for decades I kept putting money into my ROTH IRA. ah, I am not sure if I can retire in America (will do the math next year), but Thailand should be fine for decades.... never felt rich and never felt poor (Thai standards).....but I did fake it rich for decades and that must be better than faking it poor. Had a Porsche (company's car) and lived in a 2.5 million dollar house (company's retreat) for a few years. def. doesn't make you happy when it's not yours and your salary is less because you get perks. ah, whatever....not complaining. life is not easy, and it gets harder when you realize the 9-5 grind won't get you out of the box. i failed a million times trying to break out of the cycle....Thailand, coffee shop. nope. massage place, nope. hotel, doubtful. travel agency, probably not. it's tough. but try. -
Community Mystery as Man’s Body Washes Ashore in Pattaya
Quentin Zen replied to Georgealbert's topic in Pattaya News
Not really a mystery if it's in Pattaya. OK, let's say he was swimming and drowned. RIP, whatever happened. Foul play in Pattaya is certainly a possibility, especially since he didn't seem to be wearing normal swim attire. . When I say "possibility," I mean 99.9999999999999999999999999999%.- 1 reply

looking back on my decade in LOS, attacked a few times. no blood, but still got rabies shots just to be safe. it's scary sometimes, since I knew if I died my estate will get 500 baht. I've seen Thais use slingshots, rocks, sticks (I'm a stick fan), etc.....there are just so many dogs on the street. great for protection, fine, but keep them locked up and behind a gate. even on a leash I've had dogs jump on me.....yea, of course, the owner is to blame...and that's who's paying the 500 baht. no fines, no punishment, no problem. fine, start with the farang. jail, 1 million baht fine, etc.... only in old city Chiang Mai do I NOT remember having a problem with dogs. I've been everywhere. maybe I just forget...old mind. lol.

US Passport Renewal Update Information
Quentin Zen replied to tkramer's topic in US & Canada Topics and Events
Thanks. I have a US bank account with USD in it; however, a few years back, they froze the account because I was in Thailand (yes, I told them, and yes, they knew...lol). When I called, it was just one big headache after another. Then the card expired. It's on my to-do list. Next year I think I'll do the Schwabe international account....seems to have a good reputation. ChatGPT tells me this...maybe next year I'll visit CM and take care of it. This has been on my to-do list for only two years...lol....TiT. Yes, it is possible to pay for an American passport in Thailand using Thai baht (THB). You can pay for your passport in THB at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok or the U.S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai. Payment methods accepted include credit cards, debit cards, or U.S. dollars. -

US Passport Renewal Update Information
Quentin Zen replied to tkramer's topic in US & Canada Topics and Events
only have like 5 pages left......well, make that 4. so two pages, back to back.....4. that's passport number 2 filled. visa is one year, so I'll renew mine at the start of 2026 maybe. I'm reading can only pay online in USD. What if I only have a Thai bank account? Maybe I have to go to the bank, convert to USD, then send the USD? hmmmmm... plus 100 baht for return envelope, which will be in Thai baht since using a Thai service. Is there a better way? I think in person I paid like 7000 baht last time......in baht. hmmmm. U.S. Embassy Bangkok 95 Wireless Road Bangkok 10330, Thailand Tel: +66-2-205-4000 -
In LOS where every bad farang story is publicized, I'm sure these people getting mugged would be going to the police. Daily occurrence so 365 times in a year.....and I can't think of ONE story I heard of a farang mugging another farang. Nobody's getting mugged and doing nothing in Thailand if it's a farang who mugs you. I do agree with your first few sentences, however. not the mugging part.

tell ANY country I'd be willing to accept a 400,000,000 USD plane. Then force eBay to list it as it's ONLY item or else. Then buy my coin and after I get another 10 million USD I'll send you each a red hat made in China for only $199,99 or three easy payments of $938 each. money and power, money and power. gin and juice.

50,000 for cleaning. 200,000 for broken items. 500,000 in lost rent. 60,000,000 for pain and suffering. Settle for 1,000. who knows, maybe 100 people lived there. party all day, party all night. never rent out your place, let someone borrow money, let anyone borrow anything......then no article. easy. hard to trust strangers.

Report Pad Thai Ranked Fifth in TasteAtlas's Best Stir-Fry Dishes
Quentin Zen replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
In Mexico City, millions chant, "You Bao Xia" every Tuesday morning at 11:34. Oh, it's very popular outside of China and Thailand. I told them, tell Jingthing!!!!! guess you didn't get the message.... Pad Thai is hit or miss, usually miss. Most of my Thai friends don't eat it, which speaks volumes. But in a small village in the Congo, Pad Thai rules the land!!!!! Stir fried.....yea, not all oils are the same. or sugar, msg, who knows........I own a 5-star restaurant in Argentina and my Polish chef makes Pad Thai with lemons procured from the shores of Chile. $393 USD per ounce. We've never had a Thai customer. Almost any food article is worthless..... -
Thai bar girls throwing Roman Salutes
Quentin Zen replied to NorthernRyland's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
The comments on X are hilarious. ----- Jake in the Red Light District of Thailand, picking up sex workers, while condemning OnlyFans girls. The irony. ----- It's funny when people say Thais don't know about history. I'm not 100% sure, since you are asking them in English and maybe German or World War or Holocaust doesn't register the way you think. Ask them in Thai and then get back to us...... Same thing in China. Ask them in Chinese, they get it. Ask them in English they ask, What? and you think they have no idea. -
Both. My company will pay an extra 4.5993834 percent, and then I'll mark up the product by 39348334343 percent. Let's go!!!!

Quentin Zen replied to Georgealbert's topic in Chiang Rai News
my mind read Chiang Mai, but I am not the sharpest tool in the shed. Chiang Rai???? 3,000? 23:00???? 1. I'm ready to sleep, or asleep. 2. 3000 is food for 300 days. 3. Underage in a bar in 2025? Not going to joke about that, that's terrible. I could joke about the Golden Triangle and Golden...... nah. Hope that's a falang in the chair!!!! lol.
