Drawdown pensions from UK
I dont know about Trading212 but if it's a Flexible ISA then any money taken out of it can be re-deposited during the same Tax Year, even if you've already used your £20k p.a. ISA allowance. https://www.gov.uk/individual-savings-accounts/withdrawing-your-money#:~:text=If your ISA is 'flexible,if your ISA is flexible. Worth mentioning that Non-UK Tax residents cannot open a new ISA or add any money to their existing ISAs.

Please help me understand the basics of buying a house
If the property has already been owned by somebody else then you cannot separate the house from the land so your GF would buy the whole property freehold.

Please help me understand the basics of buying a house
If you totally trust your Thai GF then you could buy a new build, put the land in her name and the house in yours OR buy an existing property and put it all in her name with a Lease/Usufruct giving you the right to live in the property for 30 years + the option to extend for a further 30 years if required. BTW there was a lot of talk about increasing the maximum lease period to 99 years, as with other things this seems to have gone quiet since the change of government but will hopefully be back on the table when the next government comes in. https://www.estate-samui-properties.com/thailands-new-99-year-land-leasehold-law/

Barclays International Banking Accounts
Thanks, it’s this point… “you leave everything above the £325,000 threshold to your spouse, civil partner, a charity or a community amateur sports club“ … That I’ve always assumed to mean if I did marry my Thai partner she wouldn’t have pay any IHT on my estate.

Barclays International Banking Accounts
What about property? I still have my old UK home and was under the impression that I could leave that to “My Spouse” IHT Free (even though she’s never set foot in the UK). I can see that I need to do a lot more research on IHT, it’s just one of those subjects (Wills are another one) that I think a lot of us don’t think enough about 😔

Barclays International Banking Accounts
I’ve obviously got it wrong, I was assuming she wouldn’t have any tax to pay on it as she’s non-UK Citizen/Domiciled/Tax Resident but I can see your point so thanks for that. Damn, another nail in the coffin for me not marrying her 😳

Barclays International Banking Accounts
60-100% (Depending if siblings/parents die before me) of my UK Assets will go to my Thai Partner & I believe she won’t be subject to UK IHT or Thai IHT (I’d describe myself as comfortable, certainly not wealthy, well below the 100M Baht Thai tax). Thanks for the positive feedback on Standard Bank, I actually visited their office in J’Burg in 2005/6 when Barclays bought ABSA 👍🏻

Thai banking apps when switching to new phone
(Appreciate that the OP is upgrading an Android phone but this might be relevant when upgrading any new Phone/OS)... I noticed that after upgrading to IOS26 FaceID had become much less reliable resulting in me locking myself out of FaceID on the BangkokBank App, solution for the IPhone was to turn of "Require Attention For FaceID" - Though even with this off It's still no where near as reliable as it was before I upgraded :(

Why S*xpats and Agent users boil my Urine
I use an Agent for the convenience (some might call it laziness). Total cost is 12,000 THB... 8000 THB for the extension (so an extra 6,100 THB on top of the 1,900 THB you have to pay) & 4,000 THB for the Multi Re-Entry permit (200 THB on top of the normal 3,800 THB you have to pay). For me it's worth it, but others might choose to spend the 6,300 THB on other things, Up to Them...

3BB gave me public IPv4…but removed IPv6
I think he meant to say since IOS13 which (like Android 10) was released in 2019, no problem using it on my 4G phone. The MACs also got it in 2019 with the release of MACOS 10.15 (Catalina)

Watched episode 1 yesterday, I have a WizzTV subscription but am sure it's already available in the normal places.

Apologies, next time I’ll try to include the channel it’s shown on (Which I think if we all did, would help us all). Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻

I’m having trouble sleeping due to my financial situation .
This is one of my favourite ones when I can't get to sleep, I bought one of those headbands with built in speakers so listening to it doesn't keep my GF awake... My problem is that I wake up at stupid O'Clock (Before 3:30am) so there's a few Youtube channels that tell stories in such a mellow voice that help me get back to sleep e.g. https://www.youtube.com/@SleeplessHistorian https://www.youtube.com/@DozingDragonASMR But my favourite is Simon from CrackingTheCryptic https://www.youtube.com/@CrackingTheCryptic/videos?app=desktop guaranteed to send me back to sleep even though I really enjoy the content and will re-watch the video the next day. Would love to find out more details about the edible cookies, the only thing I miss about becoming a non-smoker is smoking a decent spliff but I know if I smoked one I'd be back on the ciggies again (Even after 23 years it's hard sometimes not to go back on them)...

Barclays International Banking Accounts
I'm going to start receiving 2 pensions from Barclays early next year & for the DC one at least I need to tell them that I'm not a UK Tax Resident so I'm trying to make alternative arrangements for my Banking, General Investment & ISA accounts should they decide to close my accounts. Ideally I would just switch everything to a Barclays International account (Plan B) For anybody who already has an International Banking account with Barclays... Did you open your account whilst living in Thailand? I've searched everywhere for the list of 35 countries that are eligible and I can't find it anywhere. Do you have any Investment services with them? For the qualification criteria, does it have to be Cash or can I use other assets (e.g. UK Shares/Gilts)? Appreciate I should be asking Barclays direct but I don't want to trigger them into closing my accounts until I've got alternatives in place so would really appreciate any information existing account holders can share... My "Plan C" is:- Banking - Lloyds or Standard Bank GIA/ISA - Interactive Brokers (UK) ... Any thoughts/comments on these or alternatives? Many thanks Sam

Enjoyed this one & “The Guest”… A cleaner becomes captivated by her wealthy employer's charismatic influence. Problems with 3BB internet.
I've had intermitant problems for the past 5 weeks, then an outage of 36 hours so I called their complaint center, (not the 1530 number who told the GF 12 hours previously there were intermittent problems in the area) but the 02-100-1100 number where I told (in all honestly shouted at) them that if somebody didn't come out to sort it before 12pm today I was going to inform my landlord that I'm no longer going to pay for the service - Large part of my problem was the account is in the landords name, they paid for it for the 1st 2 years so the extra money was their way of increasing the rent this year. Today at 11am they turn up, 2PM they finally worked out it was a problem with my fibre optic connection to the router, replaced it & touch wood all good since. Main thing I learnt from this experience is I actually don't need to be paying the 1,028 THB for the service, I can run my laptop, Netflix on the TV & Android TV box from the hotspot on my phone (Pre-paid AIS). Edit: Apologies this was in Wongamat (Pattaya) I did watch them testing the cable on the telegraph poles outside of Tops Daily/Blue Siam if anybody is familiar with the area.

Why Thailand is no longer a bargain
That’s only the case if the Daily Mail is not a news outlet (which could be argued either way). joking aside the article was lifted from the DM site so rule #27 surely applies.
-
Why Thailand is no longer a bargain
Isn't there a "Fair Usage" rule on AN where you should only quote the 1st couple of sentances of an article and then add a link to it?
-
Why Thailand is no longer a bargain
Do you have a link to this cr4p or did you make it up yourself? Very 1st Paragraph about THB being stronger against the GBP since 2020 is absolute bolox (I know I was living here before & after then and bringing money in regularly) so I stopped reading at that point... https://www.exchange-rates.org/exchange-rate-history/gbp-thb-2020 Lets compare that with 2025 so far... https://www.exchange-rates.org/exchange-rate-history/gbp-thb-2025

Keeping a UK phone number going in Thailand
Before I switched to Post-Paid, I used https://mobiletopup.com/?l=en to top up my PAYG AIS but you can use them for UK mobiles as well https://mobiletopup.com/topup/united-kingdom Like others, I use GiffGaff for my UK Number.
