When you do it in person do you have to have proof of residence ?
The reason I ask is that the proof of residence is the one thing that people have a lot of difficulty with over here and Liverpool have difficulty accepting a lot of evidence yet if you are collecting your passport personally I cannot see why the need cannot be removed thus speeding up passport processing for everyone.
There are so many circumstances where at the time of applying you cannot get proof of residence and in a lot of cases only can prove you live somewhere else. How does this help security concerns?
The fact that they cannot legally check you actually live where you say you live is another reason I find it ridiculous.

The one thing I hope that comes from all this is that the embassies and consulates are still required to give assistance and not allowed to just wash their hands of peoples misfortunes caused by this. Nobody should be allowed to leave the consulates feeling lost, confused and without any options. They are there to help their own citizens and they should be giving proper advice and if need be getting on the phone and complaining on behalf of Uk citizens.

So some people whose passports are about to expire can have it extended but how does this help people with full passports which I would imagine is the more prevalent in Thailand ? I suppose this helps them keep down the number of people applying for a year.
-
yeah was thinking something similar involving black biro

Picked up my passport from Tendy today.
Went in just before 9.00 am (2 people said I would not be seen until 10.00 am) and walked out at 9.15 am with the new shiny passport.
I shall email HMPO and ask them why they issued a 32 page passport when I requested a 48 page jumbo version !
..
utterly <deleted> appalling service !! make sure you get a refund

I put 114.01 also on my form and that has now left my credit card account.

An update on my application, I submitted it to Trendy House on the 9th April, I had a phone call from Trendy on the 30th, saying my passport was ready for collection, I will be going on Tuesday to collect overall its taken just over 7 weeks.
JOHN
Well that's the quickest one yet, well done.

Well my appointment was on Tuesday the 27th in the afternoon and my credit card payment (UK card) is showing as pending already. How amazingly efficient they are at processing the payments.I envision an office piled high with torn envelopes and bits of paper everywhere. People tearing open the envelopes from large sacks just to get the payment forms tossing the rest of the contents to the floor. The phone buried under discarded A4 papers is constantly ringing in the background. Some one answers it and at the same time someone shouts "tell them we're doing security checks".

Good News for the Old Brit.Downloaded all his Forms. Took him to BKK Bank, showed them the Payment Form, and they upgraded an old Deposit Acc Card to work on VISA only, and tested it so it works for Him. Nice one BKK BANK. In and out in 25 Mins....
good man Pop well done.

Did mine today and nothing to report that hasn't been already said. Will advise on how long it takes.I have 88 days before I need to leave the country but can extend 60 days using the cancelled passport if really necessary.

Just back from Nong Khai. Caught the 5.00am express train from khon kaen this morning which I believe starts in Bangkok. On time for the first time ever and everything went like clockwork. Border run was the same as usual with a few soldiers about.
Job done.
-
Thanks for the updates, going to Nong Khai tomorrow morning will report back.
-
Almost forgot, does the overstay take up any space in the passport ?
-
thanks anyway will keep an eye on things
-
The problem is timing the vfs interview with the border run because the passport turn around is so long and who know when the border will reopen. I have 2 pages left which is enough for 1 hop and 1 extension then will have probably one square left for an exit stamp but no room to enter anywhere.
-
My stay ends on Sunday 25th my VFS interview is on Tuesday but I will have to travel down on Monday because of the curfew. I was going to get the overnight bus Monday evening.I could risk going to the vfs interview then doing the hop and paying overstay when the border opens but that means risking travelling in the middle of a coup to Bangkok and back with an overstayed passport.
-
is there any kind of extension for waiting for a passport because by all accounts it wont come back in 60 days ? was relying on the 90 from a border hop.
-
Yes I have a wife and child but was worried that the overstay would reset my visa. Its the very end of a year non o multiple entry based on marriage which expires on the 4th of June. So they will give me 60 days you think ? Also what about another 60 days later when my UK passport renewal takes longer than 60 days?
-
My plan was to do a visa run on Sunday (last day of my entry allowance) to Nong Khai. Since this is closed can I go to Khon Kaen immigration (to late to go now)on Monday pay the 1 day overstay and get a 60 day extension to the mulitple entry non o visa I have or does the fact that I have overstayed cancel the visa ?
This especially bad since I have to travel to Bangkok for my UK passport renewal interview on Monday as well so cant really wait for the border to reopen.
please advise

A week is a luxury we may not have. I do a border hop on the 25th (non o have to leave every 90 days) then I have my appointment at Trendy on the 27th then its taking at least 8 weeks maybe longer before I have to go back to Bangkok to collect then get out again hopefully before 90 days is up. Better getting the letter whilst in Bangkok to be sure.

just colour photocopied my passport cost = 500baht
total running costs now 2100 baht

Once again these civil servants show their incompetence,
So now you can nominate the biggest drug baron, terrorist, fraudster in Thailand to collect a passport
but they wont allow DHL to deliver the passport securely to your home.
It makes me wonder, when the HMPO office gave this you scratch my back i scratch your back contract to VFS they gave the contract on the understanding that VFS would charge for their checking service by appointment.( They are certainly not doing this out of the goodness of their heart.)
So why charge for one appointment when you can double your profits by charging for two appointments no matter how much inconvenience the applicant as to go through
yes and dont forget the nominee will need your passport which means you wont have it so making their must have passport at all times bollux mute which means you might as well have been able to send your pp to the uk rather than photocopy everypage...... and round and round in circles they go
