@topt:
I'll be here for just over a year on a business visa, probably not a valid visa to drive on.
Would I have to BE driving for a year to renew?
-
Please note: I HAVE NO DESIRE TO DRIVE IN THAILAND.
But I am enquiring as to wether I can get an international license here (legitimately) which would allow me to drive in Europe/UK/US.
Basically, can I save myself a bunch of cash by getting an international license while I am here?
-
Is it possible to learn from scratch aged 42 and gain an international license?

I am currently unemployed and 'working' as a house husband for my girlfriend who is Japanese and is working on a full expat package.
There's nothing I can do here despite having a degree, lots of experience, enormous creative talent, excellent people skills, good speaking and writing skills and the best suit and shoes money can buy, so I give up.
Is there a visa for people like me or should I cash in my chips, break up with my girlfriend, ship my 15 years worth of acquired possessions back to my home country and call it a day?
-
Ah thanks, I've heard about these sites. Will take a look.
Cheers

JibJab is a digital entertainment site specializing in personalized e-cards and videos and is a great and hilarious way to cheer up somebody, on their birthday or otherwise.
In 2009 I had no problem creating a card and paying $4,99 for the download onto an mov. file, however - now one has to become a member (which I thought I already was) but although I can view a hilarious video of my brother and his wife doing a silly dance I created through their website using cut outs of their heads from photos, I am unable to buy it or use it in any way which is carrot danglingly frustrating.
Why?
I have contacted the US based company regarding this issue but could it be that it's yet another victim of Thai government power tripping paranoia. I hope I can be forgiven for jumping to this conclusion being that they have banned more websites than any other country on the planet.
JibJab website below for those curious.

Never gets any easier does it.
-
Just to confirm - before I book the flight.
Do I submit application and pick up 60 day visa the following day - as in Vientiene?
Please let me know any other info as I have not done this in Myanmar before.
Many thanks.
-
Thanks for both replies.
I tend to agree with cgphuket as I have never heard of expats joining recruitment agencies and I've been here a while.
It was a Japanese friend who recommended I try, but I would imagine that, other than the locals, the Japanese are the most sought after foreigners.
-
It is, many thanks!
-
I can't find anything on Google and this list of agencies (below) doesn't specify if they deal only with Thais or with both.
I've called three but two of the numbers don't exist and one was a fax.
-
That's 60 days for Thailand.
The missus wants to go to Myanmar and I would like to get 60 days if possible (I'm currently on a tourist visa).
Can I apply for 60 days in Myanmar or will I have to go to Laos for that?
Many thanks

I take half a Xanax a couple of times a week. I can't sleep well without it.
I know it's not good to be dependent on it but that's just how it is.
Surely one strip in my check in will be okay?
If not, what about Valium?

Dear all,
A friend of mine in London has requested 100 Kamagra jellies. I said i'd get one box, which is 50 as I am a little worried about customs.
I fly to the UK next week via Dubai and I read once that a passenger was jailed for 12 years because he had a poppy seed on his jacket which had fallen off a ham and cheese cob he'd purchased at a cafe at Heathrow.
I usually fly with a couple of Xanax to help me sleep and that's never been an issue, but a box of Kamagra?
Should be okay but just want to check.
..And it's not for me, honestly. Why would I need it in England?

Thankyou, I was wondering HOW to see if there is a way around, other than the very helpful Sunbelt Asia. What they charge is reasonable but like I said, a trip to Australia would be cripplingly expensive in comparison.
Perhaps contact the Thai embassy in Copenhagen.
-
Okay, I've since found out that Sunbelt Asia could sponsor me and this could all be done for 10,700 thb.
However, I would need to go to Melbourne to obtain the visa and wait there for ten days, all of which is going to cost about another 40,000 thb.
May I assume that this is simply an easy and expensive option for anyone wishing to stay in Thailand for whatever reason and that the cheapest way of going about this would be to call the embassy in Copenhagen?
I will be going there visa the UK in a couple of weeks so I need to know asap what I would need my boss to provide.
The Sunbelt link posted earlier gives this list:
- Brief description of the objectives or details of the business and steps of work. Brochure or profile of the business is required as well.
Okay.
- Office address in Thailand and map thereof. You must show evidence of your right to use the office space of the representative office (lease, landlord consent, household registration, etc from the Landlord.)
NO OFFICE is needed in Thailand. Bangkok will just be a base and any work I do here would be simply viewing or replying to emails.
- Reasons why the representative office is necessary
DON'T NEED AN OFFICE, I have a laptop and a desk in my small apartment in Ekkamai.
- Positive and negative impacts on the Thai economy and society.
No negative ones. Positives? I'll be here spending money and opening a new education market to Thai students.
- Last three year’s annual financial report of the head office. ( Must be translated into Thai by a licensed Thai translator)
BRAND NEW COMPANY so this is not possible.
- Details of technology transfer to Thai staff.
What??
- Number and name of staff together with their salaries.
There are about 40 staff, almost all of whom are in Copenhagen. Why the hell would they need all that info?
- Well known projects/ clients/ products. (case by case)
It's a school.
- Business forecast plan and amount of expenses for the next three years.
It's not really like that is it. They just want a representative in Asia.
- Type, value and number of machinery/office equipment used in the business.
That is absolutely ridiculous.
I'd appreciate anything that any of you have to add but it looks as though i'll either have to contact the Thai embassy over there and ask them what to do or do it the easy and expensive way.

Representative office?
Not heard of that one.. How would I go about this?
-
I've been offered a job by an international school in Denmark that would like me to promote them in the Asia region as it is more cost effective than them flying over for education fairs and agent visits.
I have so far been told that I can not get a work permit as it is not a Thai affiliated company and has no office here but that a 1 year business visa may be an option.
I would welcome any clarification on this.
-
Thankyou Sheryl, that's what I wanted to hear.
It's been about a week since my American ex girlfriend playfully shoved me against a fence as I was drunkenly barking back at some needlessly aggressive dogs.
I don't think I can get along with her until it's gone completely. Then there's the issue of blood stains on my month old tan leather shoes.

Following a bash to the lower lip I have one of these:
http://dermnetnz.org/site-age-specific/mucocoele.html
The swelling has gone down but I'm left with a hard lump like a BB gun pellet trapped on the inside of my lower lip. It doesn't seem to be going away though aplication of ice seems to temporarily 'flatten' it.
Is there any walk in clinic anyone can recommend where I can go in and get it treated, lanced, whatever it needs - without making an appointment or filling out loads of forms or registering to a hospital and all the hassle that entails which, in this oppressive heat, would be even more hassle?
Suggestions welcomed.

It's not funny anymore though is it.
Thailand is a country with great potential but it is a complete mess politically and the immigration department is an embarrassing mess.
Investors are looking elsewhere, the neighbours are catching up fast and the future is gloomy.
I really feel embarrassed and sad for the good people of this country who are not ruining it with a sycophantic adoration of material affluence and financial gain.
-
They posted the new notice for the 12th of August in Thai, thats helpful, well over the years we have all learnt about their attitude towards us.
In Pattaya immigration about three years ago, all the staff had to be taked on customer relations course ,to help them smile and not to hate 'farang' .no laughing pls, its serious .
As ive said before there are approx three million Thai's living abroad, would they put up with it, i think not ! They would have representation and would be screaming discrimination.
This is what sort of democracy ? half baked one i'd say, we have no rights, and will not have any say , we are 'aliens 'here and thats the way they like it, give them a uniform and we have little Hitlers everywhere .
If you don't like it just leave, but please stop the bloody whinging,
That is easier said than done, and a silly statement due to the fact that if many of us had known the magnitude of inconvenience caused by the greed and corruption here then we probably would have chosen somewhere else to live.
We all love Thailand as a land mass.

Internationally, Thailand has the respect it deserves.
