  1. I used to live in On Nut which had a great barbers. I only ever require a head shave but would get shoulder massage, wet shave, the works for 70 baht - which I always considered too low and would happily always tip.

I now live in Nana, and the barbers on Soi 11 have a bad attitude and charge 250 baht.

I don't expect anywhere on or near central Sukhumvit to be 70 baht but is there anywhere that is closer to what I am looking for between Phrom Phong and Ploen Chit?

    Thanks

  2. Back in the west I always found persistence and initiative to be seen by potential employers as good traits and this often landed me the job I was looking for and in many cases have never had to apply via the usual route of resume/cover letter etc...

However, is it seen as a good thing here? I always find that I never really, truly know where I stand with Thai people. I've done some work for a Thai media company here and was paid upfront last year, and they are happy with what I have done. I would like to push for more work but don't want to unknowingly piss them off or be seen as a pest.

I initially also had this fear in the west and didn't need to, however things are done differently here. I'm seeking more work from a Thai company I have already done work for and want to be seen as keen and motivated. They area modern and westernized bunch of Thais so perhaps it is okay to show the same gumption I would back home, or perhaps not. What do you think?

  3. I have a whole bunch of these from my old video camera. The tapes are virtually obsolete now, but the ones I have I want to back up onto a hard drive before they rot. I'm finding it difficult to find somewhere that will convert them. I tried the 'Sunshine' shop in Fortune Town as they do VHS to DVD so was surprised they didn't offer this service and am wondering where I can get this done before it's too late.

    Cheers

  4. I do actually have one free page remaining but even so, I will be needing a new passport quite soon, definitely within the 11 months remaining on my ED visa.

I'm aware that my new passport require sending the old one to Hong Kong and it will be a month before I get the new one (and hopefully the old one) back. This part itself is not an issue providing I time it so that I get them back before my 90 day immigration check in.

But, what happens to the visa once I get a new passport?

    Thankyou

  5. I had a badly infected throat a few weeks ago - went to hospital and the doc gave me Augmentin which worked a treat. Looked at my throat in the mirror with a torch and was very red with white spots - typical throat infection.

Then a couple of weeks later started with a mild cough - was constantly dragging up phlegm and the slight cough wouldn't go away for several weeks. Then I developed a bad sore throat like before so thought it was a re-infection. Started to take Augmentin on my own, but it had no effect on the throat so went to doctor who said my throat was not infected. I couldn't believe her so looked myself and it was not infected. Anyway she gave me a few things to clear up the cough and then the throat went away. The doctor said my throat had become sore through dragging up phlegm over a long period and clearing up the cough let the throat rest to clear up.

Lesson; check your throat yourself with a magnifying mirror and bright torch - to see if it is red or not - if it is then I recommend Augmentin very much - can get from any chemist. Otherwise, you need to clear up the cough first. I seriously doubt that your aversion to antibiotics is going to do more good than harm.

Augmentin didn't work. Waste of 800 baht, but thanks anyway it was worth a shot.

  6. I'm in a new relationship, and although this isn't the reason for my lack of sensitivity and great difficulty in reaching orgasm - it is something I have become aware of over the past year and is no better when I am by myself, worse if anything. Okay I smoke, but this hasn't affected other men I know or me in the past. I have a healthy diet and I'm 39 years old. I occasionally take Xanax to sleep but am on no other meds. I tend to worry about it which of course doesn't help, but I want to see a doctor about this. Is there anywhere that specializes in such issues?

  7. I want to buy this stainless steel bracelet for my girlfriend which I saw in Loft/Siam Discovery.

The shop girl said engraving would take one week. She was pretty vacant and gormless so I wouldn't trust her to get it done. I asked her if there was anywhere in Bangkok that did engraving but she said there wasn't ay. I don't believe her, she's an employee on auto pilot like so many of them.

Any ideas? I'll just buy the thing and then take it to get it engraved myself.

  8. Six (6) pages?? Wonder what for??

My Thai wife goes to the U.S., one full page is her 10-year B1/B2 visa, but the entry stamp is about the size of the stamp you get when going to Laos. Could fit 6-8 of those on one page, if the immigration guy is careful with placement.

    BS, me thinks.

    Mac

Thanks Mac. My Embassy agrees. I'll just be polite and stuff.

  9. I was told by an acquaintance yesterday that I need at least six blank pages in my passport to be allowed entry into the US.

Say it isn't so, I will have 1.5 free pages after I get my re-entry permit.

I'm British and have never had a criminal record - it shouldn't be an issue, but if I have to get an emergency travel document then I need to know now.

Will be grateful for any clarification.

  10. Going from Canada to BKK through Chicago or Fankfurt is fairly easy - sleep a little bit and with the hot girlfreind waiting for me in BKK, its easy to stay awake.

The return flight back to Canada is normally about 28 hours and leaves around 8 AM or midnight. I drink about 6 glasses of wine and beer and then drift off, wake up a few hours later, drink more alcohol and sleep / watch movies and so on. Once I arrive home I'm completely screwed and fall asleep late afternoon and wake up around 2 AM. Each day I can stay up an hour later and wake up an hour later so 5 days later I'm pretty good. Alcohol each way is the way to go as you feel great, its easy to sleep when you want and you can often keep drinking in the cab on the way to Pattaya and roll in at 2 AM to hit Insomnia if you have no one waiting.

I need a window seat, that's for sure - and I don't have one. I need to contact Delta and sort this out. Can't do it today as I have not slept well in 3 nights, despite being off the booze. I'll try without smoking next time, but tonight i'll need to take a Xanax and have a productive day tomorrow.

My girlfriend is picking me up in Vegas. The whole 7 days is just going to be a blur of jet lag, insomnia and alcohol. I wish teleportation was possible.

  11. I am afraid that the only advice I can give is what you don't want to do. There are some good ENTs who will not just randomly throw multiple antibiotics at you.

Indeed if there is no fever and this has been going on for that long problem may wel be allergy rather than infection.

Thankyou. Could you recommend one on/near Sukhumvit that isn't too pricey?
