I will coming over from the Czech Republic next week and want to bring some tasty cheese and salami as gifts. Will this cause me any problems at Survanabhumi customs?
-
It's not a no alcohol public holiday today is it?
-
I guess the Manchester United pub - if it was still there, though it's now Champions.
Any other suggestions?

P.S. I assume it doesn't include Taiwan. Would that be a separate visa or is Taiwan on arrival?
-
For a British citizen currently in Thailand:
How much is a visa to China?
How long is it valid for?
..and how long is the process? (How many days in advance of my trip do I need to go to the embassy in Param 9 and sort it out)
Thankyou

(Thanks for replies thus far)

Thanks..
Should have asked this in the last post but I assume I have to fly both ways?
-
How about if I fly to Cambodia for a couple of days then back again?

Dear all, I understand I can extend my visa for 7 days at CW immigration for about 2,000 thb.
However, that is very tight as I am awaiting confirmation on an upcoming business trip.
Is it possible to get an two week extension, and if not what are my options without leaving the country - only to have to maybe leave the country again a day later.
Is was once possible to do an early morning visa run to the Cambodian border for an extra 30 days which I believe cost around the same as the 7 day extension, but is this service still available and if so, where is the closest service to Central Sukhumvit?
Thankyou.

Okay thankyou, I found a list of agencies in Thailand. I assume they all deal with boarding schools in the west.
Cheers

I'm just after a list of agencies, not the schools themselves. I have heard good things about a few of them, including Harrow.
I will only have a couple of days there so I just want to go through an agent.

I'm considering sending my son to a boarding school in Asia, most likely Bangkok as his mother is Thai.
I don't know if I am putting the wrong thing into Google but it isn't coming up with much. Rather than visit all the boarding schools I want to visit an agent who can answer all my questions and recommend a shortlist of places to visit when I am next over.
Does anyone know of any such agencies in the capital?

..as the title says, in Bangkok?
Many thanks for any useful replies.

Years ago, I was chatting to an expat kady in HCMC. She basically said the same thing as the article: all the expats have Vietnamese wives/girlfriends and most Vietnamese men are not very attractive to a foreign man. Most ladies prefer their dates to be taller than them.
I thought about it at the time and realized she had a very valid point Certainly I have never wanted to go out with any white woman in the 20 years I have been in SE Asia.
I think that covers the vast majority of farangs who live in Asia.....the reason?.....I will leave it to the ladies to figure out..
Nothing to figure out, it is because the majority of men here can't handle a western woman or can't attract one mentally or physically.
I'd be the same if I had old fashioned attitudes towards women and had made zero effort on my appearance.

I've been here over a decade, and with the exception of one Japanese girl - I have only dated Western chicks.
It's not that I would NEVER date a Thai girl - only that I would never date somebody who grew up being spoon fed the infantile television and media they are subjected to here, or somebody who had never traveled on a budget or who was not heavily conditioned by their society, consciously or not.
Although it isn't easy (it's a challenge and challenges only better oneself) it's much easier to find an attractive white girl who is intelligent and good in bed and who you can laugh with all night and exchange great banter with than it is to find a Thai who is exempt from the above maladies.
I like Thai people generally, I just have very little in common with them and for me attraction is as much, if not slightly more, about wit and brains as it is looks and figure. I keep myself as fit as I can unlike many men here who simply let themselves go because they have few standards and can pick up a local woman anywhere, and until I get to an age close to the guy in my profile pic, I will continue to enjoy western women as friends, lovers, and where possible - long term partners. -
The evidence is everywhere you look.

I remember going there with colleagues almost ten years ago now, but because this city was so new to me I had no bearings whatsoever.
It was a nightclub that I think no longer exists but am curious to know where it was located and what took its place.
Anyone know?
-
I've lived here ten years and if there were no western women here I wouldn't be here. I've never really had a bad experience with a Thai woman and I generally like Thai people but have little to do with them simply because there's little common ground. Western women can be more challenging to date, but I love a challenge and I like to work for something.
As for the workplace, I've never heard of any discrimination towards women here but that's just me. I'm sure it still happens but I wouldn't let it bother you. There's always plenty here to moan about.

I have a load of DV cassettes which I need transferring ideally into mov files so I can edit them.
I am unable to do this myself as my old DV video camera is faulty and prone to chewing up tapes.
Many thanks

I will need to get the Emergency Travel Document. The HK office has been very helpful but there is no way i'll have it back by Friday.
So the following issues remain:
Can I use my old passport number to book the flight? (It is full up and can't be stamped but not yet deleted from the system)
Once I get my ET document, where will my ED visa stand? It is far from expired but in a full passport. I assume the re-entry permit will be stamped into the ET document.
-
So i'll have to get an emergency travel document, which I won't be able to do until Monday. And that will be 5,000 baht?
Also, how will this work with the ED visa in my old passport and the re-entry permit I will inevitably have to get next week?
-
Is there any way to speed up the application process? They have received payment so it should be sent out fairly soon. I am hoping that they request that you allow a month just to cover themselves. I have emailed them regarding my predicament but as yet no reply.

I have been just been asked to come to the UK on family business next week but only last Tuesday (feb 27th) sent off my application for a new passport. I have received confirmation of payment from the office in Hong Kong but no idea when I will get it back.I am also concerned because I my old passport is completely full - although there is one smudged/water damaged page which may or may not be accepted by immigration officers, I have no idea if I could use it. (pic attached)Also, at what point in the application process does the existing full passport become obsolete on the computer system?

Cheers for the replies, I'm sure i'll be fine. One sausage and a chunk of cheese, wurst case (sorry ) scenario seems to be confiscation.
