Watched a fascinating program on why China have gone all in on renewables*......the amount of electrical energy required to smelt bauxite is phenomenal......why is that important?......smelting bauxite yields the rare earth's required for chip manufacturing.....they aren't or can't be mined. The Chinese will have a strangle hold on these rare earths, it is claimed, and they can then hold the likes of the US to ransom who, it is claimed, are 20/30 years behind. *No idea if it is true
