  1. Cougar I am sure that when the government resigns that the PAD will vacate the airport.

Just so everyone understands my previous post. The General and the community suggested dissolution of Parliament, PM to resign, and new elections, PART 2 WAS THAT PAD TO STOP THE PROTESTS IMMEDIATELY.

And in less than 5 minutes, PAD announced from Government House that they disagree with the suggestion and do not intend to stop.

SO WHY QUESTION AGAIN IS WHAT IS IT THAT THEY ARE PROTESTING, WHAT DO THEY WANT.????

cAN YOU ANSWER THAT FOR ME? JD??

  2. My wife was watching and moved to Chanel 31 (PAD) and the spokesman on the stage said PAD disagrees with the Generals suggestion, and will not stop.

So, PLEASE all you PAD supporters in the know, please let us all know what they really want????

I personnaly hope they told the truth, because, I think this General has a little more power than they do.

  3. In a breakdown of the Phuket statistics by age, the highest incidence was among people aged 25-39 years. In this range, the highest incidence was among 30-34 year olds, with an incidence of 25.67%, followed by 25-29 year olds (22.10%) and 35-39 year olds (18.02%).

Boys and girls, if I'm not mistaken, these per percentages are based by age group of the total cases. :o

For example if there were 300,000 cases; then 25.67% of the 300.000 cases were in the 30-34 age group.

  4. Yesterday, PAD and their NON VIOLENT protesters threw shoes and bottles at Somchai as he was leaving a ministry.

Please all you PAD supports, tell me where anywhere in the world this is allowed without some arrest or some fighting. I am just disgusted with they way they act and feel no lost of face in this land of smiles :o:D

  5. I may well be flamed for this, however, this is my 2 cents to this argument.

#1. I do agree that the court has done it's job, and I am pleased with the outcome; it does not matter how good on the outside a person looks. You have to look at his heart! The simple thing is, I believe that if Thaksin had paid his taxes, none of this would have happened. ( Sort of like Nixon and watergate) I know many influential at that time would still have supported him, if he would have told the truth.

    2. I would like to see Thaksin serve his time in Thailand, but I think it would be good Karma if the PAD 9 also had to serve their time along side Thaksin, that would be justice :o I already know many flamers are ready to torch me for this, and say they have not been convicted. Maybe my the time their cases go to court, Thaksin will be her to serve also :D . You may wonder what crimes they have committed. Just a few would be enough. (Kidnapping, destroying property, inciting a riot (They have to accept some responsibility for Oct 7th) assault, also hijacking not only vehicles but property.

  6. May I correct this to : "it's a deal with a former PM of Thailand, who still governs it per remote control and wishes dearly to make his come back, to reclaim "his lost riches"!

EXCUSE ME!!!!!! You sound like the hate monger Sondhi Limthongkul. May I inform you that at the time (1962) when the border was established by court the Temple and the land was given to Cambodia. At that time Mr. Thaksin being only 13 years old had nothing to do with it. Not being a lover of Thaksin or his abuses it is a strong stretch to tie him to the original issue of who owns the a fore mentioned area.

  7. Phuraman/Animatic,

While I do not want to flame anyone, it would be nice if the truth would be told and not so bias depending who is reporting it. Example; on the 8th the BBP reported the story about the #23 bus hijacking stating that Sonhi disavowed knowledge of it, the same day The Nation reported PAD hijacked 5 buses and negotiations we on going to recover the buses.

First if they did not take them, why are negotiations necessary?

    In regards to weapons, not only video I have seen on numerous stations (Cable stations 1, 3, 5, 7, 11) all showed weapons in the hands of the PAD. Also, about the siege at NBT, I saw numerous guns in possession of PAD;

Anti-gov't protesters storm NBT television station, halt broadcast

BANGKOK: -- Hundreds of People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) demonstrators broke through the closed gates of the state-run NBT television station and stormed into the premises, halting all programs, as other groups of the PAD rallies at Government House and the Ministry of Finance to press the government to resign.

After breaking through the NBT gates, the protesters poured into the premises and seized the station. The government-sponsored channel was airing its morning news programme showing the moment the protesters stormed into the the station, for a moment only, as the station went off the air.

Earlier in the day, before dawn at about 5 am, a group of people raided in to the station to try to gain control of the facility. Police eventually regained control of the building and arrested 80 of the raiders.

Police also seized guns, knives, golf clubs and mild drugs from the trespassing protesters.

Meanwhile, Sondhi Limthongkul a core leader of PAD announced at the so-called democracy movements main protest venue at Makkawan Bridge on Ratchadamneon Nok Road that the anti-government protesters had already taken control of the NBT television broadcast facility and that more PAD supporters were heading to join the group at the government television station's compound.

Hundreds of anti-government protestors also rallied at Government House and blocked all gates to its premises in an attempt to bar the Samak government's ministers from attending the weekly Cabinet meeting.

The protestors also staged a demonstration at the Ministry of Finance and the Agriculture and Co-operatives Ministry, where the PAD has reportedly taken over the premises and asked the civil servants and senior officials to stop working.

Footage on NBT shows protesting breaking windows

A footage on NBT's special mobile unit showed protesters storming in NBT station and braking through doors while police watched helplessly.

    -- The Nation 2008-08-26

I agree, let us all use logic and think before talking, but also, observe and do not let your passion rule your thoughts. I also really agree that both sides any flaming the issue and lying out their asses. It is time to slow down, take a breath and find a way to defuse the situation, but the one thing I will say is that it is PAD that is already planning more shit to do with with there march to National Police on the 13th. Am I am the only one that sees that they are inciting unrest. Keep your eyes pealed for those unarmed protesters, I am sure you will see many that will be armed, no matter which T.V. station you watch.

  8. I must ask those people wht would happen if the rule of law was abandoned

and each person was allowed to do as they wish.

The concept of class is necessary for anarchy.

Free will would mean some people would ignore the social contract

and injure others. Amoral people exist, hense the need for laws

and enforcement. Sadly when the amoral, or at least weak moraled,

controled by the amoral, control the levers of power then something must be done.

Often those seeking, or in power, are the most easily drawn and twisted by it's grasp.

Sycophants and weedlers talking bilge, and the ability to be Yes Sir'd till you really believe it.

Nothing like being 'The Boss' no backtalk to warp ones mind for good.

Sometimes those amorly controled things are such a challenge to defeat

that things normally below ones typical moral rectitude are needed

    to force a just ending.

It is ONLY when one gets caught up in a necessary lesser evil

to end a much greater evil, that the problems of power madness set in.

As to Class being necessary for anarchy... poppycock.

    Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary

    Anarchy

    1. Absence of government; the state of society where there is no law or supreme power;

a state of lawlessness; political confusion. Spread anarchy and terror all around. --Cowper.

    2. Hence, confusion or disorder, in general.

There being then . . . an anarchy, as I may term it, in authors and their re?koning of years. --Fuller.

    Or

    Dictionary.com Unabridged

    1. a state of society without government or law.

    2. political and social disorder due to the absence of governmental control:

The death of the king was followed by a year of anarchy.

    3. a theory that regards the absence of all direct or coercive government as a political ideal

and that proposes the cooperative and voluntary association of individuals and groups

as the principal mode of organized society.

    4. confusion; chaos; disorder: Intellectual and moral anarchy followed his loss of faith.

It say absolutely diddly squat about ANY class structuring.

In fact the basis negates ALL class structuring at all.

One might be better served not throwing good words around randomly.

Save then for their true meaning.

By the above def. we are already in a state of anarchy. There is no working Government now as PAD has short stopped each and every attempt of the government to govern. I dare say we are in a state of political confusion

We are surely in a state of lawlessness, with PAD kidnapping people, causing property destruction and damage, hijacking, the crimes of the PAD being used under to veil of protest. I am also so very tired of the yellow journalist continuing to rant about the UNARMED PAD PROTESTERS. Unarmed means without weapons, unless the PAD def. means Guns, Bombs, Knives, Machetes, clubs, steel bars, on an on are not weapons I will be quiet.

  9. Hi all.

I see no police victims of explosive munitions, And yes on the side of the unarmed

protestors nearly 500 maimed and injured and 3 dead, all caused by explosive munitions, according to doctors who treated them.

    phupaman

No, the police were shot directly and stabbed and speared. The PAD blew themselves up, at least one of them did. and the unfortunate young girl, as I read was close to the explosion by the Jeep.

  10. I saw this on another Board, I thought it was very interesting.

we have just been down in Koh Samed for a few days, when we arrived, we went for something to eat at the Ban Phe pier whilst there there was a popular Thai actor on the next table to us, i could see my was wife was annoyed, but left it until she was ready to tell me.

The actor left and she says i used to like that man hes a good movie star, so it seems hes one of the PAD activists, and he was on a Rent a mob recruitment drive, he was offering 1,500 baht per day, and 2,000 baht for front line demonstrators, (get your head kicked in for a extra 500 seems a good deal)

So it seems he was telling to locals that PAD will not stop until the present Goverment are put out of power. he was taking phone numbers and not saying when anything will happen. What can we expect next. Huh

  11. Victim of bomb blast in front of Chart Thai Party is a man

Forensic official identified the victim in a bomb attack in front of Chart Thai Party as a man aged between 40-50 years old.

The man was standing near a car when the bomb exploded. The fire from the blast totally damaged the car.

Forensic official said it looked like the man's hand was in his trouser's pocket and apparently grabbing an explosive when it accidentally went off.

Earlier reports said that the victim was a woman and she was in the car when the bomb went off. TheNation

Two grenades were found on Ravithi Road near Parliament at 6:55 am Wednesday.

The bombs were found and disposed by police.

    The Nation

A number of protesters led by the People's Alliance for Democracy have not adhere to the principle of non-violence as claimed, Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner Maj General Amnuay Nimmano said on Wednesday.

Amnuay was speaking in an interview with Channel 3 defending Tuesday's police crackdown.

Many police officers sustained injuries from stab wounds and gun shots, he said. One officer was run over by a truck and another was punctured by a flag pole.

Several home-made explosives, known as ping-pong bombs, were lobbed into the headquarters of Metropolitan Police Bureau.

    The Nation

These are a few of the reports from The Nation, that will show that PAD is not with out blame, but it always seems to turn the truth into an attack at the Government for doing their job. I don't have a clue as to what the PAD stand for or want really??? I do wish that all Thai's would get together and make both PAD, TRT, PPP accountable for their actions and stop this BULLSHIT.

  12. I agree, about the advise about staying out of the country for extended periods. My wife (divorced now), went back to Thailand in 2001 and stayed for 10 months, when she arrived in Min/St. Paul (NWA) she was denied entry. I was at home in Atlanta and received a phone call from the Immigration in Min/St. Paul and he asked a lot of questions about the reason she was out of the U.S. and why I was not with her, etc. I tried to be very polite but I know I sounded agitated on the phone. I told him that I had gone to INS in Atlanta prior to her trip and was told that she could leave the country for up to one year. I then told him it has only been 10 months, and gave him the name of the officer in the Atlanta INS office. He allowed her to continue to Atlanta, but it was very frustrating. So I do suggest you do your homework and get documented answers and it is very helpful to have a name to throw around to the Officer at the entry point.

  13. Phuket Gazette's version:

KARON: Chalong Police are investigating the bizarre killing, apparently in self-defense, of an unknown frogman who attacked a Swiss yacht owner and a Thai woman late Wednesday night.

The details of the case, as provided to the media at a press conference yesterday afternoon by Chalong Police Superintendent Col Saman Chainarong, are based on the eye-witness account of 25-year-old Trat native Porntip Pradit

According to the Phuket Gazette she is 25!

  14. I am so confused with the advise here, The simple solution and the best and legal and safest way is to go to either Laos of Penang, (Laos--cost total about 9 to 10,000 Baht; Penang --- cost about 12,000 Baht). Get yourself a Tourist visa good for 60 days. (one time no going two or three times). If in the even you decide to stay over the 31 Jan flight, just go to a local Immigration visa office prior to to end of your new 60 day visa and apply for a 30 day extension for 1,900 baht which will cover you until some time in March.

  15. Rawai attacks continue; Man survives machete attack

RAWAI: The late-night road attacks on motorcyclists in the south end of the island continue unabated, with two more reports of attacks in the last 24 hours and several others earlier this month continuing to pour in to the Gazette news desk.

Last night a 24-year-old Norwegian man, staying in Phuket on disability pension because he is officially registered as physically disabled in his home country, was kicked off his motorbike and robbed.

The attack occurred around the corner from Icon bar, where Australian tourist Sooz Lomas, 27, and a British friend were attacked on October 7.

The Norwegian man, who asked that his name not be reported, was robbed while he was still lying on the ground.

In Chalong about 1 am today, a foreigner who runs a business in Rawai was threatened by three knife-wielding teenagers. The attack occured outside a 7-Eleven branch located just 100 meters from Chalong Police Station.

A fight ensued and the police were called. The foreigner, who also asked that his name be withheld, told the Gazette that he was disappointed with the police response.

In breaking up the fight the officers seemed more concerned about him being a foreigner and involved in a fight than the knife-wielding teenagers, he told the Gazette in a telephone interview.

Also reported to the Gazette news desk today was an attack on another foreign tourist that took place at about 1 am on October 2 near Kata Viewpoint, the same area where Norwegian Simen Knudsen was murdered a week earlier.

New Zealand tourist Shaun Clotworthy, 49, told the Gazette,“I was heading down a very steep hill toward Kata and I was about three-quarters down to the bottom of the hill, where there is a sharp bend, when two men came from behind and kicked me off my motorbike,” he explained.

“As soon as I got up off the ground, one of the men attacked me with a machete. I was lucky I was wearing a helmet – the machete cracked it,” he said.

“I was able to get the machete off him, but then both of them pointed guns at me. It was very dark,

so I don’t know whether they [the guns] were real or not,” he added.

“They made off with my bag, which had my phone, camera and some books in it, but they didn’t get any money because it was in my pocket,” he said.

Another person soon came along on a motorbike and gave him a lift to the police box in Kata, where he handed in machete and police called for an ambulance to him to Patong Hospital, he said.

Mr Clotworthy needed three stitches in his left arm to closed the wound suffered from blocking the machete, he said.

In the fall off the motorbike suffered a bruised chest and serious abrasions, he added.

“In total I had 20 wounds. I was unable to shower for two weeks. The worst, which have still yet to heal, are the toes on my left foot,” he told the Gazette on October 23.

He reported the attack to Chalong Police on the morning of October 3, he said.

“I have no broken bones, I’m lucky to be alive,” he said.

“I am disappointed with the police. They don’t seem to want to tell tourists about what is happening here. They must be able to do something. These people [the muggers] are in that area all the time.”

Adding insult to injury, Mr Clotworthy was forced to delay his visa run to via Ranong due to his injuries. Although he presented Thai Immigration officers there the police report about his attack, he was charged three days’ overstay, he said.

  16. I don't know if things have changed, however, I was told that it takes about 1 year to take a wife from Thailand to America. Then I went to INS in Atlanta and applied for the K-1 visa and it was completed in about 4 months. I do think it will take a little longer now since 9/11. I did this in 2000. You will need to get married with in 3 months of her arrival. She will have authorized to work stamped in her passport if you ask when she arrives in LA. Then just go to Social Security and and get SSAN.

  17. Can anyone please give me the physical address for the local Amphur Office in Khon Kaen. I have a Thai friend that needs to apply for a Thai Passport. Any help is appreciated. We will be driving from Korat. Thank you

  18. I just got back from a run for my friend that had already had his 3rd VOA stamped in Oct.

1). It is best to get your Lao visa to enter Laos prior to crossing. You can get it at a number of tour shops in Thailand, Knong Kai. It is cheaper. We took the bus to the bridge 50 Baht, however there is a Bus that goes straight to Vientiane for 55 Baht. But you can not use it without a Lao visa already.

The visa is cheaper in Thailand and you don't have to pay the 20 Baht to cross the bridge.

2). requirements in Thai embassy, 2 4x6 pictures, copy of your passport and Lao visa pages, 1 thousand Baht. (NOTE) If you can download the visa request form and prepare it in advance it will speed things up,

plus it will me neat I saw many people having to re-do the request form because it was not complete or it was to slopy. Once they will tell you go over there(?) and pay. What is meant my this, go to the main building; go inside and sit and wait until they call your name. I also many people that went to the main building waited outside and smoked or chated. The problem is if they call your name and you are not there your request goes to the bottom, who knows how long you have to wait then? Be polite!!!!!! they are in control!!!!

Then return the next day, best about 1:30 to 2:00, just to let the 1:00 crowd thin out.

3). The tuk tuk's outside of the Embassy are getting very bold right now, the charge to go to the bridge should be 100 Baht. The ones outside the Embassy will asked for up to 400 Baht, don't argue just walk about 1 block towards the city (a right turn out of the Embassy) there you should get one for the normal 100 Baht.

4). NOTICE: At the Thai immigration entry I noticed one guy that had tried to make a visa run on a forth VOA by going to Lao early. (I saw a post on here about this where someone said they got there 4th because it was not over 90 days, I think he when to Cambodia). This will not work in Laos. The offical pulled him out of the line and they made him to go to the immigration office to pay a fine because he was trying to go over the 90 days by making a early run.

All in all it was not a bad deal, just remember to play the rules, they are getting smarter everyday

best of luck to all. I hope this was helpful to you all.

Oh, by the way, when I took my friend, I was on my second Tourist visa, and I had no problem when I requested another.
