  1. It doesn't seem like a really sensible solution. Imagine if my Thai banking websites blocked India or my UK ones. Think of all the business travellers and tourists who come to Thailand and want to be able to access important websites form their home never mind all the people in India who would behind the great firewall of "not India".
  2. As the OP has said all that matters is how much is "debited" in the sending currency and has much is credited in the recieving currency, you then just divide one by the other to find the effective rate and of course this can be dependent on the amount converted. Rates and fees are just ways of obscuring the actual rate for the purpose of marketing.
  3. I downloaded the app to my old phone that it was previously working in. Turned off WiFi and enabled roaming on my DTAC SIM but it only connected with EDGE. I got the following new message but don't know if that was the slow connection speed. Tried a couple of hours later and got the same message.
  4. The only meaningful rate is the amount withdrawn/purchased divded by the amount debited from your foriegn bank account. For instance Western Union in India doesn't charge a fee but has a worse rate than Wise which does charge a fee. In the UK some place offer commsion free foreign currnecy which is just a marketing tool as the only thing that matters is the effective rate. The other way to look at it is if I send £100 for example how much do I receive in Baht. XE usally shows the mid rate. Sometimes Wise shows a better rate than that which can only be because they are not always using live real-time rates. I have a Halifax Clairty credit card which has no foreign exchange fee or cash withdrawl feel and I used to use to withdraw cash and then check online in the app to see how much was expected to be debited and immediately pay that much to the card to avoid the interest on the cash withdrawals which they do charge. It was just complicated when I was using it for purchases as I would have to clear the whole balance.
  5. I am going to try for fun, putting my Indian SIM in my old phone, in slot 2, along with my Thai SIM in slot 1, disabling WiFi but using my Indian SIM for which I have a data package and see what happens. I am in India right now.
  6. I am currently in India and whenever I try to log in to the forum or access the forum once logged in I get a banned message. It's OK if I use my VPN service to connect to a server in Thailand and seems to be OK if I am using the forum and then disconnect or though still not sure about this last bit. I have emailed support but they have just told me my account is fine. Could someone with a VPN try connecting to India and see what happens if they try to log in to the site?
  7. Thanks for the link to the other thread. t does seems you need to be using mobile data from a Thai SIM and possibly the Thai SIM with the number that is registered although that is not clear. I did try a VPN but maybe not with my Thai SIM in the phone. I don't know of any one day roaming packages. My main Thai number is DTAC, this is the one that is linked to my bank account. I do have a True H SIM which is in my tab and used for my TrueID sports subscription. I think I will just try installing it whilst at the bag carousel. DTAC are givng me 24 hrs free mobile data for being an old customer (20 years this year). I will ask customer service once I am back and hope to get a definitive answer.
  8. Hi I bought a new phone in the UK and tried to install the KBank app but it always give me the message "For your first time set up, please disable your WiFi connection in the device's settings and use cellular data to proceed (268)". I have done this but still get this error. I am not using my Thai SIM (DTAC) because I don't want to use roaming mobile data. Has anyone managed to get the app installed?
  9. I have used both SCBEasy and KBank on my phone with various non Thai SIMs.
  10. Thanks for all the helpful info. I am flying direct to Nepal.
  11. Called them today, 2200 Bt including certifcate. Quite close to me too.
  12. Any recommendations of places with cost and time?
  13. Guilty as charged. I do think that the feedback I received here just helped me get looking in the right direction so thanks to all for that.
  14. Just remembered how I fixed it before after creating a new test profile to see it works OK. Just cleared cookies and data for the site which is an option after clicking on the padlock just before the URL.
  15. I have 3BB fibre and it is the same on two different machines. Just tried in a private tab on FF and it worked. Tried in a normal tab with all extensions disabled but got the same accessed denied message.
  16. Should have checked before posting but just tried now and it works in Edge and Chrome, no VPN. I have had issues with some other websites not working in Firefox occasionaly.
  17. A little while ago I stopped being able to access the i newspaper. I've tried with my VPN but get the same message.
  18. Thanks for the link but I prefer to read my books in paper format if possible. I'll scout around the 2nd hand book shops around town.
  19. I just tried adding a book I am looking for to my Amazon US and Amazon UK cart/basket and in both cases there is a warning that the item cannot be shipped ...
  20. Does anyone know a place where I could get some kitchen knives sharpened? In India and Nepal there are people who cycle around with a whetstone connected to the drivetrain on their bicycles so it's really easy https://www.ifixit.com/News/7768/modified-bike-in-mumbai
  21. Another walk in at the neurological hospital this week.
  22. It's only a small study but swayed me to have AZ as my booster last week having had 2 AZ shots in the UK, the last 7 monts ago.n Just a bit more info. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/astrazeneca-vaccine-booster-works-against-omicron-oxford-lab-study-finds/ https://www.astrazeneca.com/content/astraz/media-centre/press-releases/2021/vaxzevria-significantly-boosted-antibody-levels-against-omicron.html
  23. I walked in to Chiang Mai Neurological hospital today around 1.15pm and left at 3pm after the 30 minute post injection wait so felt like that was reasonable. I have had two AZ shots in the UK, the last 7 months ago and so was offered Pfizer but chose AZ and it was no problem. I took my passport with me and now my vaccination status is on the Thailand Digital Health Pass system although only the single AZ shot.
  24. I just ordered a new Gigabyte X570S Gaming X motherboard, Ryzen 5 5600X CPU and Corsair Vengeance RGB 3600MHz RAM for my gaming rig. I am keeping the GTX1060 that I wrote about here a few years ago. Hopefully it will arrive on Christmas day and won't take to long to build and then I will be interested to see what kind of framerates are possible without the limitations of the ageing Core i5-2500K that is being replaced.
