  1. Thanks for the advice/suggestion. As this build is not about ultimate performance and as I have already been shamed on these forums for my untidy cable management and survived I'll take you advice and just buy a regular SMPS.
  2. I have used all the PC components from my old gaming PC desktops to build another PC but I need a new PSU with an 8 pin VGA connector. I am not sure I really need a modular PSU as I am going to build a Linux Apache webserver for use on my LAN instead of using XAMPP on my development machine but semi-modular seems like a good middle way. Any suiggestions that are available from Advice/Jib/Shopee or Lazada? I think 2500 Bt should be my budget.
  3. Wise have sent the card to my address in Thailand. I contacted them first to ask if it was possible. My registered address is in the UK.
  4. I ordered a new Wise to a friend's house in the UK who recently arrived in Thailand but it didn't arrive in time so I cancelled it and ordered one to my condo in Chiang Mai on the 23rd Dec. Has anyone any experience ordering a card from Europe?
  5. I orignally started the thread as a minor grumble about accessing a website without using a VPN and I've been using one for almost 15 years. I know that companies have their reasons to want to block traffic from troublesome IPs though it's interesting how other retailers in the UK like Argos are not blocking Thailand but Currys are. Yesterday I had to buy new insurance for my house in London if all the sites blocked Thailand which none of them did and If I hadn't known that one of the uses of a VPN was to get around that then it would have made things difficult. As most companies are not using geo-blocking it would be interesting to know what causes some to implment it. https://www.raymond.cc/blog/easily-block-visitors-from-a-country-using-htaccess/ https://searchengineland.com/should-you-ban-a-country-from-visiting-your-website-71667
  6. https://www.currys.co.uk/techtalk/computing/connectivity/how-to-use-a-vpn-virtual-private-network.html From the above: "You can access content available in other countries. Fancy seeing the different types of content that your favourite TV and movie streaming service offers overseas? Well, with a VPN you might just be able to do this. Because your location is hidden, you can get around geographic restrictions to stream content from around the world."
  7. I just wanted to check the UK price of something and found currys.co.uk is blocked from Thailand or at least from 3BB fibre and DTAC. Last month I was in India and aseasnow.com was blocking my IP address. Blocking whole countries seems counter productive as people without VPNs might still want to shop whilst they are on holiday for example.
  8. Windows 10 and 11 often advertise features during installs and upgrades that have nothing to do with where you are in the install. I don't think the Windows Hello message has anything to do with the install/upgrade. It just seems to be asking you whether you want to keep you files or now which you would get during a "reset my PC". I've only upgraded on of my computers to Windows 111 so far and I don't remember being asked that but you don't state how you got to this situation.
  9. select keep storing my data and then click next
  10. I normally buy these products in the Vegetarian Society shop near Airport Plaza but they are shut until the 10th of Jan. Does anyone know another place to buy them. I even heard there is a refill shop somewhere.
  11. I used the same number as I've had it for 20 years so I can't say for sure what would have happened if I'd tried with a different number.
  12. I arrived in BKK this morning. Opened the app, message saying I had changed devices, entered my debit card number and passport number and boom, I'm in.
  13. Click the gear settings icon, open all settings and change your location. It's a not so sensible Google feature to force the local date format.
  14. Yes I probably should have described it as not very fair rather not sensible. The weird thing is that once I've connected with the VPN and opened the site I can then disconnect and continue to use it. This is great of course because always being connected to my VPN's Thai server causes issues with other things I am doing on my computer.
  15. It doesn't seem like a really sensible solution. Imagine if my Thai banking websites blocked India or my UK ones. Think of all the business travellers and tourists who come to Thailand and want to be able to access important websites form their home never mind all the people in India who would behind the great firewall of "not India".
  16. As the OP has said all that matters is how much is "debited" in the sending currency and has much is credited in the recieving currency, you then just divide one by the other to find the effective rate and of course this can be dependent on the amount converted. Rates and fees are just ways of obscuring the actual rate for the purpose of marketing.
  17. I downloaded the app to my old phone that it was previously working in. Turned off WiFi and enabled roaming on my DTAC SIM but it only connected with EDGE. I got the following new message but don't know if that was the slow connection speed. Tried a couple of hours later and got the same message.
  18. The only meaningful rate is the amount withdrawn/purchased divded by the amount debited from your foriegn bank account. For instance Western Union in India doesn't charge a fee but has a worse rate than Wise which does charge a fee. In the UK some place offer commsion free foreign currnecy which is just a marketing tool as the only thing that matters is the effective rate. The other way to look at it is if I send £100 for example how much do I receive in Baht. XE usally shows the mid rate. Sometimes Wise shows a better rate than that which can only be because they are not always using live real-time rates. I have a Halifax Clairty credit card which has no foreign exchange fee or cash withdrawl feel and I used to use to withdraw cash and then check online in the app to see how much was expected to be debited and immediately pay that much to the card to avoid the interest on the cash withdrawals which they do charge. It was just complicated when I was using it for purchases as I would have to clear the whole balance.
  19. I am going to try for fun, putting my Indian SIM in my old phone, in slot 2, along with my Thai SIM in slot 1, disabling WiFi but using my Indian SIM for which I have a data package and see what happens. I am in India right now.
  20. I am currently in India and whenever I try to log in to the forum or access the forum once logged in I get a banned message. It's OK if I use my VPN service to connect to a server in Thailand and seems to be OK if I am using the forum and then disconnect or though still not sure about this last bit. I have emailed support but they have just told me my account is fine. Could someone with a VPN try connecting to India and see what happens if they try to log in to the site?
  21. Thanks for the link to the other thread. t does seems you need to be using mobile data from a Thai SIM and possibly the Thai SIM with the number that is registered although that is not clear. I did try a VPN but maybe not with my Thai SIM in the phone. I don't know of any one day roaming packages. My main Thai number is DTAC, this is the one that is linked to my bank account. I do have a True H SIM which is in my tab and used for my TrueID sports subscription. I think I will just try installing it whilst at the bag carousel. DTAC are givng me 24 hrs free mobile data for being an old customer (20 years this year). I will ask customer service once I am back and hope to get a definitive answer.
  22. Hi I bought a new phone in the UK and tried to install the KBank app but it always give me the message "For your first time set up, please disable your WiFi connection in the device's settings and use cellular data to proceed (268)". I have done this but still get this error. I am not using my Thai SIM (DTAC) because I don't want to use roaming mobile data. Has anyone managed to get the app installed?
  23. I have used both SCBEasy and KBank on my phone with various non Thai SIMs.
